I'm sort of confused by this new way Ingrid makes her videos. I can't really put a finger on it, but it almost seems like I am watching a reality show. The way how she talks to the camera is so different of how it used to be. Instead of addressing her youtube viewers I feel like I'm watching a reality tv show on TV.
It's because she's using professional equipment instead of a camera that any average person owns. What you're seeing now is tv grade production values versus what reads specifically as a "home movie".

I see what you mean & well...her channel did grow & developed into something more than just casual UA-cam blog. This is more professional & different. I think UA-cam blogging changes overall & soon will be very different. Who knows, maybe she'll go back to casual style after experimenting a little. What's more important is the message though 😉😘
I don't like it. At all.
This minimalist trend kind of annoys me. I just wish people would stop trying so hard to be hipster. It's healthy to get rid of things but not in mass quantities like this just because you want to live a certain lifestyle. I recommend not throwing away all your clothes that you once were in love with and holding onto them for awhile. Weed things out in smaller quantities because if you just donate everything at one time you're going to regret it. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm trying to be realistic! Seriously no hate. Just think before you do something
Choosing to live a "minimalist" lifestyle is not "hipster". Nothing is hipster because everything is mainstream. There's nothing special about hipsters & they didn't coin minimalism.
How is it unhealthy to donate things you don't wear often to people who don't have as much as you? It is realistic to keep the things you want in your life and remove stuff that take up your closet space. After all, she's not getting rid of items she always uses.
I donated a very large quantity of things when we downsized from a large home to a tiny apartment, and I had to do it all at once, and it felt refreshing and wonderful and I never regretted it ever. It's not trying to be hipster, for some like me it was a wake-up call out of the fog of the consumerist lifestyle where we just buy, buy, buy and then tend to hoard all these things we usually no longer need/want/use.
There's NOTHING WRONG with wanting to live a minimalist life. For many people they don't regret it and it's something they really do want, it IS realistic for many people. Just because people live like that, doesn't mean they're "trying so hard to be hipster." It means that's their LIFE and HOW THEY WANT TO LIVE IT.
I do however, think Ingrid is trying too hard now a days. And is being a hypocrite considering the fact that she's talking about being minimal and having minimal things when she buys a shit ton of expensive and unnecessary things.
I think you missed the point of the video so I'm going to basically say exactly what Ingrid said at the beginning, in hopes that you'll understand and get your negative head out of the clouds lol. If you have a piece, or pieces, of clothing that you don't wear often and KNOW that you won't be wearing in the near future, what is the point in keeping it if someone else can get some enjoyment out of it? Maybe someone who is less fortunate than you who needs clothing? It is in NO WAY "unhealthy" to donate your clothing if you simply have too much and aren't getting any use out of half of it. I donate at least a bag every time the seasons change because I'm always finding stuff that I haven't worn in a while. It also gives you the chance to replenish your wardrobe and change up your style with different things.
I get why people might find this dramatic but I kind of know where she's coming from. closet cleaning is a very significant thing to me. I always dedicate a whole day and I feel much lighter and more organised when my closet is - and when it's cluttered it just gives me this background sense of unease. cleaning helps me so much with my bpd too.

wait wait wait I'm just really confused with the new editing... why is it so dramatic? What is the point of the slow motion? Why are you dramatically touching every shirt?? ah, glad you are maturing, but just seems like you are trying to make everything much bigger and abstract than it needs to be.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I watched the first 20 seconds and she starts glaring at her shirt while touching it ever so gently in slow motion. What is this? A Tide commercial? -.-
Why is everyone being negative about this? Have u ever heard of they saying " If you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all"
negative is not necessarily bad! Don't equate criticism with ignorant hating, bullying, etc. At the end of the day, we are more than just viewers, and I certainly hope she is not as sensitive as you when it comes to improvement.

Lovely video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (do a google search)? It is a good exclusive product for decluttering your home without the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my friend got great success with it.
Damn you have more clothes then I do! What I do is turn all my hangers backwards and then if by the end of the year, if some hangers haven't been turned around, then those are the ones I never wore. So I give those away.

This filming style is really nice, and I like that you filmed without much/any makeup on as weird as that sounds, it's just cool to see a beauty guru in a more relaxed light. I've absolutely been itching to clean out my closet for weeks now and this might have finally given me the push to find the time to that I needed. Also, I have a fashion and style channel here on UA-cam as well, it would be really great if you or any of your subscribers checked it out!
to see any youtubers filming a video without the need or pressure to glam up and put on a large amount of makeup when they are filming is so refreshing and nice!

When I started watching "beauty guru" videos, it was all about the hauls, makeup/hair tutorials, and favourites videos.
Now, you RARELY see that. Ever.
Don't get me wrong. I gave this video a thumbs up (because in all honesty, it was well shot & edited) But I totally miss the way these "beauty videos" used to be....
I originally subscribed to Ingrid because she was relatable...but now, I feel like we are on two extremelyyyy different levels.
This whole organic, gluten free, hippy thing is SO not me. And no disrespect to anyone who LOVES this kind of stuff. Seriously.
It's just, I feel like I've been unsubbing to SO many different people on UA-cam recently because I have NOTHING in common with them anymore. People change. Things change - I get that. But I miss my daily dose of hauls and simple makeup videos :(

omg yes i agree! almost every youtuber i followed stated they are trying to do something different lately with their channel. Plus why is that every youtuber drinks almond milk. At times it feels like i am doing something wrong drinking regular milk.

Some people are getting really offended by this video somehow. Personally, I've grown up in a family who likes to "collect" (read: hoard), and this topic is very near and dear to me. Simplicity may not be everyone's taste, but it sure is mine. I think most try to strive for the "more is more" lifestyle that is so positively depicted in the media and reality TV.

recently I read a book about how French people have less clothes and be happy about it and have wanted to clean up and organise my closed since then! this video inspired even more. having lots of clothes isn't always a good thing. being happy with less clothes might be a better way. fortunately there are lots of places to donate clothes in my country so all I have to do is pack things I no longer need in plastic bags and it also helps people. I totally understand those who say it's such a waste of money, but well keeping things you don't need anymore does nothing to you, so... I'm gonna go through my closet tomorrow :) thanks Ingrid!
Why so much hate and negativity in the comments? I think what most people don't get is that Ingrid simply started to understand the true meaning of life and that being materialistic does not mean being happy. There's so much brighteness inside her and, in my opinion, what she does is simply wants to share her experience with you guys. She's very brave and I'm sorry if you feel sad that she isn't just about make-up tutorials and fashion stuff anymore.

You edit your videos BEAUTIFULLY. So many people say it seems commercial-like, and maybe in a sense it does, but I think that you are just exceptionally talented in paying attention to the details of your video. Again, beautiful and calming.

I usually don't read the comments too in depth on other people's videos, but I don't understand the negativity. I am all for having your own opinions but this is such a well executed video, the filming and the message. I love cleaning out my closet and donating a chunk of it. I don't believe Ingrid is doing this to be trendy, she is doing this to be healthy. Great video girl!

I know i will get hat for this comment and don'tget me wrong i love Ingrid but ... i feel like the last couple of videos were soo overdramatic. I mean: your cleaning your closet right? Not everything has a deeper meaning like cleaning your closet being a "journey". I get that we all have special memories connected to some pieces of clothig: for exapmple you wore that shirt to your first date, etc. But i mean she's preaching to live with less but then again when you look at her make up collecion i'm like: wait what? It's kind of contradictory. She clearly lifes in abundance and she worked hard for it. I just guess then she shouldn't preach to live with less.

She is saying that she wants to live with fewer, nicer things. Purging possessions that are weighing you down can be incredibly freeing - it makes room for the stuff you do care about. It isn't about getting rid of everything or never buying anything new. There is something luxurious about being surrounded by only the things you really love. It's also much easier to live in a home that isn't cluttered.
She's trying to be more creative with the free platform that she has. I think it's cool.
Feather White She's TRYING to START a life with a "less is more" philosophy starting with her closet (she stated that in the video)...keeping only those that give her "joy" and things that she will use in the "foreseeable future." She either hasn't tackled her make-up collection OR she believes those things give her joy or she's going to use in the near future. Changing her whole lifestyle is a big deal, you know? She's not just organizing her closet. I know I def live in abundance, but a lot of times it weighs me down and it doesn't really make me 100% happy, so living with that philosophy has been liberating for me. Idk how to explain it lol sorry I guess I'm being overdramatic too?? :x

I love how calm you are when talking most videos on organization the people talk so fast I can't hear where they got to boxes or stuff they used to put the clothes and shoes in. But I loved how you did yours made it seem like it is so easy to do when you just pick a spot and get started on it and don't stop till your done and it's the way you want it! I've been on the process of purging my closet too. First I went it through last year and got rid of things that were too small/worn/broken or didn't just use and donated, sold and recycled (H&M) them. Then I waited for about a year and went through it again with the clothes I hadn't worn since the last purge. Now I have much more manageable closet that isn't over flowing with 10 year old clothes!

I love this concept of "less is more" ! I did a massive closet cleanout a few months ago, and it definitely feels like you're carrying less on your shoulder and it feels good to be donating the clothes to find better homes and for other people.
I have been inspired to live in such a way too. My inspiration was minimalism. I've been going through the things in my room in stages so I can give away the things I either don't need or don't use so that I am left with only the things that work best for me. I'm glad to see that someone else around my age is going through the same transition in life. Less really is more when it is made up of only the things that serve a designated purpose in your life are are made of good quality material.

Except most donated items end up in a landfill, so it's kind of like .... if you didn't always have the less is more philosophy enough to not over purchase from the get go it is not super effective for anyone but your own self:/. I recommend the documentary the true cost. However with careful research you can make sure your items go to somewhere were they are well utilized and not trashed.

I'm not sure but there are similar ones made by Rubbermaid, and if you were to look online first you could probably come up with other brands that make drawers like that.
I don't know but the sterilite 3 drawer cart worked for my shoes! I got two of the carts for $11 each from target.

I 100% understand! At Least twice a year I'll go through my closet and donate/throw out a bunch of stuff that either doesn't fit, or I'm not wearing at all anymore. I clean the closet and drawers, I clean my shoes, get rid of jewelry that I don't wear anymore and it's really such a cleansing process. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but usually in the weeks after doing this I feel so much lighter and fresher. Maybe I'm just a neat freak but I love that feeling.
Also, this video is great. It is YOUR channel and you have the right to let your video editing style evolve with you as you grow up and become a professional. I did this exact thing before I even seen this video! Less is more meaning appreciate what matters not materialistic things that you can't take/hold with you forever. I was such a materialistic person and honestly still trying to NOT BE! I don't want to obsess over things that don't change who you are. Having more clothes or bigger things expensive things won't make you happy. And if cleaning your room and getting rid of what weighs you down helps you by first getting rid of material things that you need to stop thinking about then do it! I know I am. It's a mindset not everyone will get.

I already knew this tips and never read the book. But every youtuber use more less the exact same method and some of them do give her credit but IMO it is just obvious where she got the ideas. She could have came up with them herself tho. Those tips aren't that revolutionary

I love that you're emphasizing simplifying your life. I feel like with the whole "fast fashion" thing that has been happening for the past couple years, it's really refreshing to watch people start to come back to quality instead of quantity, especially for pieces that are basic or worn a ton. I really liked the video
So happy to see this video. I moved to a more minimalist wardrobe 6 months ago and LOVE it. It's so easy to get dressed each day and packing for travel is a breeze. You are so influential here on UA-cam so I hope lots of people follow your journey. I too started with the closet and am gradually making my way though my whole house.

I know the chances are low, but if the end of that video actually shows the few clothes you have kept, it's extremely admirable. I recognized a lot of those pieces, and I think it's great that you don't feel that pressure to not repeat clothes often. I think it's crazy when people have entire closets full of shoes on huge racks and a million items of clothing. People like that seem to live in a bubble where they don't appreciate all that life has to offer. There is so much more to life than "stuff," and minimizing the stuff removes a burden that holds you back from priceless experiences. I may be talking out of my ass, haha, but I really believe what I'm saying. I see people on UA-cam with an unbelievable amount of things, and I literally feel bad for them that those are the kinds of things they value. The older I get, the less clutter I want in my living space, and, like you said, it's refreshing.
This is something I try to do a lot. Every summer I go through my closet/room and reorganize. I go through my clothing and shoes and do the same thing with the donate, trash, and keep piles. It always feels so good once you're done. Great video. Less is more.

Im not really digging this infomercial style filming, makes the video less personable and thats what i like about youtube videos and gurus there videos are very personable, not over editing, letting some bloopers stay in, just fun, more real, more laid back, again more personable, i can watch informercials on tv

This is one of my goals for this year to live with less, get rid of all the old junk ive been hauling around and I mean both literately and metaphorically we tend to have all this baggage and life is way too short for that! Please go back to the old editing. This is so dramatic. You're cleaning out your closet not being interviewed for "I Shouldn't Be Alive". Why has she made it an interview?! Iv seen cancer interviews less dramatic. Also, why does she have to refer to cleaning her closet as 'a journey'. I used to love your videos but now I just cringe. Please change back to your older style

I really like what you'v been doing with your channel lately. It feels like a really homey channel.You are so down to earth, and your channel really reflects that. I like how your channel feels like a breath of fresh air.
We often have days with my friends when we will just look at each others old stuff anf give em away. Now we even have a whatsapp conversation where we put pics of stuff that we want to give away and others can say what things they would want to try on. Best thing ever!
I find it weird that she owns (or used to own?) at least two pairs of UGGS considering she's from California... I know they're really comfy and can be worn as slippers, but it just doesn't seem worth the cost...
Probably like 95% of people wear UGGS in Cali including myself . But that's only because 60 degrees is chilly to us because we're use it being like 100 degrees and usually fall winter and some of spring is about 60-80 degrees so when it gets lower than 65 that's when we throw them on.
I wish it was that warm where I lived in the winter. :(

I'm from California & I used to wear uggs when I was living there since we do get some cold nights in the winter. There's some places in CA that are more warmer than others.
People she is a grown woman. She is just trying to simplify her life. Reducing clutter and oversupplies of clothes can help relieve stress. It is ridiculous that people are saying she is trying way too hard. Well hunty deal with it just cause she is simplifying doesn't mean she is trying too hard. Some of you just want videos that have pop music in the background with bright colors everywhere. Again she is a grown woman she has her own taste and she has always been an organic and simplistic person if you didn't see that before go find another channel

I love to clean out my closet a lot but its so hard when you have no money. I need to keep almost everything because
A) there's not much of it
B) I can't afford to replace something with something better.

I love how you've been creating new content lately. Too many UA-camrs stick only to hauls, makeup tutorials and Q&A's. I do like those kind of videos, but I also love watching more 'meaningful' or useful videos like this one. Good job :)

That tiny closet cannot be all your clothes. I mean let's be real.
She also has a dresser. I'm sure that's not all of her clothes, but did you see how many bags of clothes/shoes she had at the end? She also showed us another empty closet which means she got rid of an entire closet full of clothes!
I understand she has a dresser and got rid of a lot, but I seriously doubt she's living with like 3 dresses and 4 shirts. If she is props to her I guess lol

personally, i don't really enjoy this style of video-- i really prefer the sitting in front of the camera, talking. This style of filming seems very impersonal and disconnected, in my opinion.
Having your clothes in all one space is such a game changer. It's also a lovely feeling when you're not weighed down by "things". Great video!
I love your videos! I love being organized, I'm a huge list maker. I can't count the times in the past I've done my closet as well, in a style similar to your own. It's so nice to take everything out, clean/dust/vaccum the closet and then put back the items I'm keeping and bag up the donating stuff.
This felt so unbelievably commercial and lost so much of your energy. I love you and I'll still watch these style videos, but your previous video style is so much better.

Ingrid, I've been following you for a long time and I still support you. But I just wanted to say that I don't really like the style of filming you used recently. It is very well filmed! but it feels distant, like it was meant for TV, not youtube. It doesn't feel personal and I probably wouldn't subscribed if you did this style back then when I first found your videos. I know I'm just one of your subscribers and my opinion probably doesn't matter, but I wanted to share it. This isn't meant to be a "hater" comment, otherwise I would have just un-subbed.
Love the idea of letting go and moving on so much! Now I am gonna start organize my own closet.

Ingrid, I love you but I'm really not a big fan of these documentary/interview/commercial-type of videos. There's nothing deep about organising your closet, so there's really no need for empowering music and romantic lighting. You don't have to force a deep message into every video. If I want videos like this I can easily go to Net-A-Porter or whatever but I'm on your channel because I liked how it used to feel so personal (while still being high quality) but now it's just uncomfortable to watch.
Though I do understand and love the message you're trying to convey here, I feel you're being quite hypocritical here.
You talk about having minimal things and how it's better for your health and you etc., and how you don't need extra things and yet you buy expensive and unnecessary things like extra beauty products or purses that are worth hundreds. I'm not saying that's bad, I'm just saying that it's hypocritical. But if you actually are going towards a minimalist lifestyle, I wish you good luck and major kudos, that can be a hard transition from buying anything you want to having only the basics of what you need.
Sorry but I'm hating the new way she's making her videos. I love the at home, by myself,me and the camera type of videos. Anyone else?

I'm going through a tough period of my life: i'm changing a lot and i'm taking big decisions in this period because i feel like i have to find myself again; i feel like everything is slipping out of my hands, but seeing you challenging yourself and finding yourself again inspires me a lot. With your videos you are helping me so much.
The other day i also did a closet makeover and now i feel like i have a little things in control and organized again; i donated a lot of things, most of them to a girl that was clearly so happy with her new stuff: this made my day!
