Excellent reaction! Aurora and Einar Selvik and Lindy Fay Hella and all the Wardruna performers are a match made for THIS! I wish they would do more collaborations! There is always something deeply spiritual in the songs Einar composes for Wardruna.
What a collaboration and celebration of their heritage. When I first watched this was without captions and could understand the intention from their wailing and the droning and drumming to be like a funeral dirge. It is wonderful how cultures although different can be so similar in their rituals. Great to see you back to Aurora and hope to see more great reactions of some more great songs!
Interesting reactions from you Jay. Good one, you listen with more than your ears 😉💗💕💞 Drums, frame drums and drums made out of natural material, has a tendency to connect with the body, heart and soul of us. It shakes the body, and clear out blockages. In the old ways, the drum was the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and she reminds you of who you are, and connects with your own heart and puls beat. YES, this is truly something special, indeed. This is something you FEEL in the core of your being. ...... and RAVENS....yes, magical creatures, that in the old were said to see all time at once. past, present and future.💖💖✨✨
Not to be too personal but I have a rather deep connection to this song. other than natural nordic heritage, the day I heard this for the first time i found myself driving home from work and listening to this multiple times on my commute getting highly emotional. well when i arrived home i found my leopard gecko Ive had for 22 years stiff in his terrarium. He had a long good life. This song since has had a special place in my being.
I’m so so sorry to hear about your loss of your beloved Gecko 😢 may his memory live on forever with you & may he be blessed in the afterlife & sending you peace & comfort ❤
@ValestraFox89 😊 thank you 😊 🙏🏻 he had a good life. He lived looong past what anyone thought a Gecko could live. Now, he is buried in the front yard as a guardian spirit.
Wardruna is special too: Raido Lyfjaberg Kvitraven Look for the official video. Etc. Try Heilung: Ananias LIFA live at Castlefest concert: in Maidjan. Krigsgaldir. Othan. Alfadhirhaiti. Hamrer hippyer. Skald with the song Run.
Outstanding reaction video. Yes, this is the first song that I experienced with Wardruna and then the journey began . Same with Aurora. Might I make a suggestion: Heilung-"Anoana".
He actually sings "bandt deg", meaning "bound you", past tense. He's speaking to a person that has now crossed the River Gjöll. First, "you will be free from the binds that bind you" where the person has not yes crossed, then "you are free from the binds that bound you", the person has now crossed. Signed, Norwegian. Hail Odin.
Can't wait, This is such a beautifully, powerful combination of pure, artistic expression! Wardruna are a very special band & the singer's are so very talented person. P.S. I love following the lyric's in both their language & in english so that I can join in, lol! As a live band Wardruna operates in various constellations of personnel but the standard configuration the last years has been: Einar Selvik - Vocals, Taglharpa, Kravik-lyre, Bukkehorn. Lindy-Fay Hella - Vocals. Arne Sandvoll - Percussion, Backing vocals & AURORA has a special Cameo role in this particular performance of theirs which is just spectacular!
Hello thanks for stopping by, this was a beautiful experience for myself I've never heard them perform before but I know that Aurora doesn't do collaboration if it's not something she personally believes in or have a certain connection to so it was unexpected. Hopefully you enjoy this one you probably will be able to tell from my expression throughout the performance that this was definitely something new to me.
by this date 2022 I'm sure you've heard the correct pronunciations --- for others, it's "War DRU nah" and "Hel VA gen" (long A, G like in "gun")...........as you noted.......an ancient Norse song of dying, death, acceptance and remembering those who pass before us....."Helvegen" is the road to the afterlife.......I believe the horn is called a "Lur", an ancient instrument
i can see that you feel it.... tears are imminent. and with discovering Wardruna you're in for a Ride. :) enjoy and to point you to another layer. there is a band called Kalandra, which covered this one song marevellously and they have very good Work on their own. Give them a try, you wont regret it. thumbs up.... my follow is yours because as it seems you dont just listen to music, you LISTEN to music. have a nice one
No, Hel is the Land of Death, which was very different compared to Ragnarök which is the death of a worrior and where you got to fight, get offed, than brought to life for you to partying like it's 1999 with aaaaall them cool gods, until you wake up, win the most glorious of battles, dies, gets to party like it's... Yeah, a bit like Groundhog day, but for dudes who's into wearing leather and do cool stuff with swords. So Hel is the place where the rest of us end up, take it or leave it. Old Norse mythology has very few right/wrong paths, or Evil/Good. It's a religion by and for people who got married as soon as they could bare a child, worked their ass off farming, just to die toothless and worn out at 55 years old. No fancy snanzy commandments or 10 this or that. It's just life vs death, and the difference was seldom there.
Yeah, this was a great reaction to an amazing performance 😍 “Helvegen” (path to Hel) and other songs from Wardruna and Einar Selvik are in the Vikings series, Einar also has several guest roles in it👍😊 In Norse mythology, Hel is an underground realm of the dead where it was believed that most people ended up when they died. In Norse cosmology, north is the direction towards cold and death. It is therefore understandable that Hel is cold and intractable, and that the road there leads "north and down". Hel is also the name of the ruler of the underworld. She is motherly and terrifying, and her skin is part blue-black like that of a corpse and part human-colored. She is very greedy and does not easily give up the dead who end up with her. Could you please react to Aurora with: “Exhale Inhale” live at VEVO This is a song from her latest album released in January this year. Beautiful performance 😍
I love that you liked this one friend. But the song was mainly Wardruna, even though Europa is awesome the song remains the same without her. It's a great song, and she makes into something great. In these renditioned.
"Helvegen" would (probably) be old norse (not norwegian) and mean something like "the road to hel". Your pronunciation is pretty spot on. In norwegian we would say "Vegen til Hel" or "Veien til hel". Old norse is probably more closely related to modern islandic. The vikings settled down in Island moslty by norwegian (norse) vikings. The lyrics in its entirety seems to be a mix of "nynorsk" (new norwegian) and some norse or "norrønt" in some parts. I have not investigated it, but looking at it, it looks like it is. To clarify, our language "norwegian" is mostly "bokmål" or "book dialect". But we have an alternative language that is very similar to bokmål and is spoken as the main dialect in many places in Norway, Nynorsk. After we got free from Danish and Swedish rule and Norway became a sovereign state, a man named Ivar Aasen started to collect norwegian dialects into one language to give Norway an own identity. The new dialects in Norway is perhaps simmilar to Norse in many things, but a person that only knows bokmål or nynorsk cannot speak norse or even have problems understanding it.
Ravens are amazing birds. They were powerful mythological magical birds o f Odin and his eyes to see what happened in the world. They could travel to different worlds. Also there has to be practical reasons for their importance. Humans didn’t have technology back then, and ravens can be trained to search. They could report about incoming enemies and used at sea to find the direction and land.
In Norse mythology the Raven takes the souls of the dead to there final destiation. Aurora is rge white raven. I found Aurora looking for songs to play at my cousins norse pagen funeral. I think he loved it. I play this for all the people I lose Just me at my alter. It gives me peace to give the soul a song to get them to the end of there parh.
Aurora, the Viking Faerie Queen, and Angelina, they're definitely Norway's National Treasures.....and you have to check Aurora`s lovely friend, Sigrid Raabe, and Kalandra, and Anne Brun, amongst others, and there is a growing talent list from Norway that are worth our time really beautiful art somehing cooking up there in those beautiful fiords have a great weekend yo This is a recent live venue in France, the complete show, check it out mate, trust me ua-cam.com/video/IdzxRxjrRmA/v-deo.html
Try this one next, Winter Bird: ua-cam.com/video/PYdm_Z1wnQ0/v-deo.html It's got that epic film music feel to it, absolutely gives me the chills. You know, good ones.
For the uninitiated, norse Hel and christian hell have nothing in common. Hel is simply the place of the dead. The common afterlife. Valhalla is reserved for honored warriors.
Helvegen means the road to the afterlife and is an old Norwegian Viking song about remembering and honoring the dead and following them into the afterlife .
Just saw Wardruna live in Dallas on the 10th. It was amazing, they had a very warm welcome to Texas. There was at least 3 standing ovations
Wow that’s amazing 🤩

Aurora and Einar vocalising together is a match made in Valhalla ❤️👍 I always get a bit emotional when I listen to this song hehehe!

i get to see Wardruna live in about 3 weeks, i am so excited, have waited 2 years to see them due to Covid.

This song is about the path to hel (goddess) that's what helvegr mean

@@JayRuller_ nothing at all wrong with the video. Maybe you miss read what i said
@@Bobbobington123 lol 😂 yes I have my apologies 😌
Anywhere AURORA goes magic happens. She is truly a talent sent by the gods.
I'd say Einar is gifted by the Gods, his storytelling and the way he conveys it is something to behold.
Odin loved story-telling, after all.
Yeah, this was a great reaction to an amazing performance 😍

As I understand, it translates as "the way to hel".
