and he closed it with what is often called one of, if not the greatest lyric in history: "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love..you make"
This had to be a huge honor for Steven Tyler because he was a huge fan of the Beatles, and man did he do the Beatles justice. This shows why he is one of the all-time greats.
Before dying from ms, my cousin who was a Beatle fan was gifted tickets to see Paul in Vegas by his 8 adult kids. A lifetime dream come true. He told each child “In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. Remember that.”In their own fb post they thanked him for telling them about the end. I don’t think they know it was from a Beatle’s song 😂😂😂
Steven tyler knows how to be a Star on stage, great performance, James Taylor's voice sounded great on Let it Be, I wish he sang the entire song, the Beatles and Paul #1
Steven is part of a dieing breed known as "The Rock Star"! The others are fantastic musicians and entertainers. But I think we all know who spun out the magic here......
You have to wonder, when the last Beatle dies who will be left to play an appropriate tribute, and perform the appropriate send off The Beatles deserve.
The two best performances I've seen at the Kennedy awards, were Steven Tyler for Paul McCartney and Ann Wilson for Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin. Kenny Aronoff on drums is the best; he nailed it right on the head!
It would not have happened. He never did get away from his heroin and Yoko Ono addictions. If he hadn't been shot in 1980 he would have died sometime between 1982 and 1985 of an overdose and/or organ failure from the constant abuse.
chaos 50 Boy you're a pleasant sort aren't you? And, you really showed her too I must say. No expert on Mozart today was alive when he was writing music. How old she is has nothing to do with whether or not she COULD be an expert on John Lennon. That being said, it is generally accepted that John hadn't used heroin since 1970 when Yoko's miscarriage was attributed to being likely caused by heroin withdrawals. But, the possibility of his continued use is strong. She hardly said anything to be talked to that way, but if it makes you feel empowered, good for you.
chaos 50 Did your mother have to be an expert before giving you her opinion on something? The point is You were rude, young man. The right thing to do is apologize to Tamila and show everyone that you Do have good manners. In other words, have some class don't be an ass.
Steven Tyler, I'm sorry, but you're the absolutely best performer here. Your strong and robust voice, your stage energy and presence ... simply AMAZING!
Ive watched alot of the Kennedy Center Honor shows. And for me Ann Wilson and Steven Tyler's tributes are the best for me. They did them so proudly ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I always come back to re-watch this. I loved all the performances, but Steven Tyler was the best hands down. Also, the power of music is just so damn amazing.
I was 6 when The Beatles first came to the U.S. Sir Paul has aged well & the song "Let It Be" is an anthem to those - like me - who have ever been lost (clinical depression in my case). Thank you, Sir Paul....
I lived in the era of the Beatles, without a doubt, the GREATEST band of all time. I am 59 now. For you young people who missed it, it was an incredible moment to be alive. You cannot imagine. You simply have nothing to compare it to. Nothing. This is not a slam and I hope you understand that. The Beatles with Lennon and McCartney and Harrison made you wait and wish for more. You cannot understand the fervor over them. There was nothing before and nothing since, that compares to the Beatles. Nothing. While I am going into the twilight of my years, (my Leukemia is getting out of control sadly), I wanted to share this with whoever will listen. They were and are still the best! I wish you all the best and buy up any Beatle album you can get your hands on as they will be worth a fortune one day! Be blessed.
Although we all get older, these songs act like a magic blow, helping all of us to fill our minds with an endless stream of love and life. Thank you so much Sir Paul.
So sublime. When Mavis Staples joined James Taylor was spectacular. When Steven Tyler joined Mavis I was propelled into outer space. What great performances!
Watching one of my Idols ( Steven Tyler ) sing a Tribute to my All-Time Idol ( Paul McCartney ) brought me to Tears with Goosebumps. Love it Glenn Augustyn
It is like a fairy tale isn't it ..? Imagine a 15 year old Paul McCartney at the bottom of the stairs practicing "25 flight rock" and in a break he writes "When I'm 64" . he makes it and humbly says to a stupid question " Oh well I think we'll last another 5 years and then well, I think I can write for other people... who knows" and here he is ... The best of the best pay tribute not as their idol , but as a deity . "THAT IS HIM .... THERE...... WE ARE HERE CAUSE HE learned to play "25 flight Rock" 54 years ago! Mon .. if there is one important piece of history in the world , ONE that does not include Genocide .. is the birth of Sir Paul McCartney. The world is a different world because those four kids . While grown ups were talking about nuclear destruction they sand " She loves you" and the kids in the USA and those in the USSR realized that "Damn we ARE the same people" why are we fighting ????? I am TOTALLY pissed Paul has not received a Nobel prize but Obama has.
I just hope that generations remember what McCartney and Lennon brought to rock and roll. They were the ground breakers and their music I hope will live on for many more generation to enjoy. I am 55 years old and I know my Son know of this music and I hope it is never lost,
Steven tyler what a fire on the scene ! Waoooo. James taylor....omg thank you for sharing! What a spirit up lifting video! Thank u so much ! God bless u all !
I honestly never would have thought to put Mavis Staple and James Taylor together. Whoever made the decision to do so, was a genius. I love the way their voices sound together. Wow!
James Taylor requested it. Back in the 60’s and late 70’s he was a big fan of hers and always wanted to play with her. He asked if she would sing a duet with him, and she said, and I quote..”It would be my honor to sing with you and for Paul”. She was a great lady and has/had a great voice. She was a voice for the movement back in the 60’s. A great inspiration to ALOT of women who really have no idea who she is or what she stood for. ❤❤❤❤❤!
Steven Tyler's comment in his autobiography about the importance of "hearing the notes between the notes" is brilliantly displayed here. The screams and sighs he puts in the breaks of "Golden Slumbers" and his vocalizing on the drum solo of "The End" take both to a whole new place.
+Abida Babida You forgot Ann Wilson from Heart, check out their cover on Stairway to Heaven also at Kennedy Center Honors :) She's NO DOUBT (see what i did there?) the greatest female singer i have had the pleasure of listening to
James recorded his first album at Abbey Road Studios... Harrison and McCartney sing back-up vocals on "Carolina In My Mind" and McCartney plays bass on it too. They go way back.
I’ve only now just seen this and it’s blown me away. The musicianship in ‘no doubt’, the ethereal tones of James Taylor, the deep soul of Mav, the uniqueness of Tyler and wow for me the vocal ability and power of Dave. The arrangements were superb and everyone on that stage did magic to what is already well known magic by a man who was born to give soul to our hearts, minds and ears.
The great thing about Steven Tyler is that he is one of Paul's contemporaries. He was making records the same time as McCartney and Wings was. I thought his singing was quite good..
The greatest lyric ever written and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make it will be on my tombstone Paul is the greatest of all time no one even close only lennon
I never get tired of listening and watching this video. Simply amazing. Paul McCartney songs and equally wonderful singers. A tribute to one of the musical geniuses of his time.
They will, there will be many more, what I always think about is the things that have to line uo to get artists like these, who is out there that could have been wonderful but something stopped us seeing them. This is why we love music, there is always one more

When Mavis Staples sings Let It Be and Paul tears up? You can feel his soul touched by life events and coming mortality. So heartfelt...the greatest band of my youth.
I think all professional musicians are masters at turning off their emotions. I cried my eyes out through this whole performance. Everyone did so great. no egos, didn't make it "better" but played/sang note for note how it was written. I got to get some rest now. WOW!
+Ian Mc Manus Chaylian - I agree, this man is oozing in nothing but pure talent! I loved watching him do his thing! What a show he put on! Steven Tyler nailed it, put his stamp on it and then killed it. The man has vocals and is such a great showman, ...WOW, WOW, WOW!!

The way Steven sung Golden Slumbers was like it was written for him. He really nailed all the songs
I was just listening to that whole section of Abbey Road and I just had to come watch this for the millionth time. Haha.
He did a great job
chi è il bravissimo batterista?
and he closed it with what is often called one of, if not the greatest lyric in history: "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love..you make"
He nailed it totally
This had to be a huge honor for Steven Tyler because he was a huge fan of the Beatles, and man did he do the Beatles justice. This shows why he is one of the all-time greats.
No finer words were ever written in a rock song. "And, in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." No truer words we ever uttered.
Quite right. Religions have been based on less..
Very profound statement James...Thought provoking to be sure...Thank you for that...
Absolutely 👍🏼
Before dying from ms, my cousin who was a Beatle fan was gifted tickets to see Paul in Vegas by his 8 adult kids. A lifetime dream come true. Love Steve Tyler.....I want to come back as Him..
He's just too cool, great job !
OH, And Nora Jones is absolutely Gorgeous !
Frank Pitochelli Tyler takes it to a different level that none of them can touch such a talent!
Frank Pitochelli If you come back as Steven Tyler, your ass would be in jail. He is lucky his statue of limitation ran out.
Matt Reed You're the idiot!
thoraz997 o p.o.option
Who else keeps coming back just to watch Steven Tyler?
Me!
Me 2018 this was the all time best tribute
Me in 2018
Me, like 2 times a week! This is the greatest!
3rd time in 2 days...
Tyler paid homage to Paul and the Beatles the only way that matters. He sang his guts out. He is in a class by himself......
Not the first time - consider Aerosmith's version of "Come Together", which I count as a little BETTER than the original great.
Tyler nails it. Golden Slumbers always brings a tear 😢
steven tyler hits it out of the park.
best entertainer on stage
Steven Tyler is reminescent of Freddie Mercury at Live Aid. Wow, wow.
He isn't an entertainer, he's a musician
Steven tyler knows how to be a Star on stage, great performance, James Taylor's voice sounded great on Let it Be, I wish he sang the entire song, the Beatles and Paul #1
Steven is part of a dieing breed known as "The Rock Star"! The others are fantastic musicians and entertainers. But I think we all know who spun out the magic here......

Well said. Kudos to Steven. Nobody can touch his stage presence.
I usually don’t enjoy anyone singing a Beatles song other than the Beatles, but for Steven Tyler I make an exception. He was spectacular in this !
Steven Tyler man.....wow. Dude is a once in a lifetime of any generation since the very beginning.
You can just see it on so many faces, McCartney's music has brought so much joy to peoples lives!
+thumbsaloft And to think that what you said is actually an understatement!
amazing thanks for sharing... best night ever!!!○●□■♤■□□☆☆☆♤■■ let's share this with friends and family ❤/☆♡♡
The two best performances I've seen at the Kennedy awards, were Steven Tyler for Paul McCartney and Ann Wilson for Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin. Kenny Aronoff on drums is the best; he nailed it right on the head!
Couldn't agree more.Several of the same session muscians were brought in for both awards.
You should see buddy guy sing I’m your hoochie choochie man
Sheila E. and Steve Winwood at the Carlos Santana tribute. She is mesmerizing and the vocals are great!
aretha franklin was baddass too sing at that
Sting doing Springsteen’s The Rising is also a phenomenal performance. Has me in tears.
Whew! Steven Tyler is such a livewire on stage. What a great performance Steven T.
Steve Tyler took Paul to tears. Love Pauls songs and the tributes. Steve Tyler is simply amazing!
Always loved Steve's version of "Come Together" best - and I'm a HUGE Beatles fan.
SteveN Tyler is awesome!
To me, Steven Tyler does the Beatles better than anyone except the Beatles.
It was ok i find he didn't do Golden Slumbers all that great loved Dave Grohl's performance tho
He rocked for sure. What a voice that guy's got! Pure nuclear power.
I fast forward to him every time! The last 8 minutes of this show is legendary…..
Paco de cai❤
He’s fantastic. ❤
This blew my mind. Steven Tyler was phenomenal
Steven Tyler was super into the medley, what a king! Paul was satisfied
That joy on Pauls face when Steve Tyler came back on stage again, absolutely amazing!
So damn good and so well deserved. At the same time it makes me miss John and George ... wish they could be here with us too.
I miss John sooo much, still. I imagine all the great music that never happened.
That's too bad that Paul's music seems dreary to you. Your loss, believe me.
It would not have happened. He never did get away from his heroin and Yoko Ono addictions. If he hadn't been shot in 1980 he would have died sometime between 1982 and 1985 of an overdose and/or organ failure from the constant abuse.

Steven Tyler will be on that balcony one day.
James Smith He better be. Tyler has paid his dues and earned his spot.
He most certainly deserves it...American rock superstar...
James, let's hope that he jumps off it.
Him and Joe, of course.
I hope that, too.
Steven Tyler One Day Will Be Honored Like Paul
Yes he will!
And if he isn't, it's bloody crying shame!
I hope so....he’s great!
I hope Paul is there for that, two great friends :)
Dave and Gwen will too.
The transition from let it be to hey jude with mavis at the helm is truly the musical equivalent of moses parting the sea.
Every time I watch Steven Tyler on this video I get so excited and cry...
Steve Tyler was awesome, showing everyone one how a true rock star does it. I wish Linda McCartney could have been around for this tribute,
Can;t believe James Taylor's voice is so EXACTLY the same. It's remarkable.
That is the most amazing Steven Tyler performance !
That's why Steven was there ! Big voice
wow - Tyler owned that stage, and his voice was on point. He reined himself in just the perfect amount.
He reined himself in by screaming off mic, perfectly in key too!!
Steven Tyler is the king of this tribute.
He made Paul so emotional.
Steven Tyler is beyond imagination. Pure talent. Heart and guts. Roots and spirit. Thank you !
Stephen Tyler was fantastic. No one is as good as Paul McCartney, but he was still fantastic.
No wonder Steven Tyler got a standing ovation.
P.S: Love you Paul.
A great tribute !
Steven Tyler "kicks ass"s always !!!
Steven Tyler absolutely killed this performance....very talented. Love watching the drummer!!
You can tell during golden slumbers, he's thinking back to the old times
I cried
As well as Let it Be
Take a bow Mr Tyler...'Consummate Professional'. You make it worth watching...
Steven Tyler, I'm sorry, but you're the absolutely best performer here. Your strong and robust voice, your stage energy and presence ... simply AMAZING!
Am I the only one who loves the Grohl/Jones combo? The harmony was unreal, can't belive more comments arent about this
they were fantastic...hones brought sensitivity and grohl the power
Fantastic duo … their voices and energy complement perfectly for the song 🥰
I really liked them too - great together
I love how much John Lithgow is enjoying this.
Me too so much fun to watch
Can't believe how James Taylor's voice has not aged one bit! AMAZING!
Ive watched alot of the Kennedy Center Honor shows. And for me Ann Wilson and Steven Tyler's tributes are the best for me. They did them so proudly ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Paul gave gesture to Steven by touching his hand on his heart, he loved the performance from the bottom of the heart.
...and Steve Tyler's performance just nails it so perfectly, enough to send shivers down the spines of any ardent Bealtes fan, WTG to Steve!
I feel you Jo DeMarc..I also suffer from clinical depression...Music is often times my savior...
I have chronic nerve pain and music has saved me as well. 🙏🎼🎸🎧💋

Can't express the joy I have to see and hear some MUSIC on UA-cam.
there is only one Paul...he is in a category by himself..always giving us love.
and he died in the 60's!
Malikai Hoon
He what???? No, he's alive. Can't you see him sitting next to Oprah? You need glasses.
Thats William Campbell.
How are you going to PROVE that?
I need his dna to prove that.
Dear Paul, please don't you ever die ❤️ Steven Taylor - great job, man ! Respect!
Do you mean Steven Tyler?
Gergana Ivanova TYLER
I wish it would've been Steven up there doing the whole tribute, he's that damn good! He rocks and I could see Paul was digging it!
You can tell Steven Tyler is really feeling the music... Awesome performance.
Bohemian
King of hip, all time
Loved seeing his reaction when James Taylor walked on the stage!
When I find myself in times of trouble, I come and watch this video to remind me of the good and joyful things mankind can do when motivated.
Time to come back, Bro, and Let It Be
Steveeee! How could anyone dislike this?! Steven Tyler is the real definition of a rockstar!
Steven Tyler has, without a doubt, one of the top ten voices in rock and roll.
Yeah .. Now and of all time, really. Dude is simply the definition of 'cool.' Simple as that really .
Steven Tyler absolutely killed it! I think this might be the best vocal performance I've ever seen by Grohl too! Love this
I have watched this whole program at least 10000 times❤ wonderful direction and individual singers and groups. Well done!!
Kennedy Center Honors is like the Grammys but with good music.
WOW Tyler is an absolute beast
I love seeing Paul sing along. Tyler nailed it big time!!!

맞아요👍❤
Paul is the greatest superstar of rock and pop music of all time, no other word is needed. Thanks for all, and from Paris in France, Mister Paul.
Not sure how Paul didn't burst into tears. Steven Tyler still has it, like he's still a young kid lol. Damn he and Dave killed it.
Steven is just amazing here,goosebumps!
The transition from Let It Be to Hey Jude always gives me goosebumps.

Although we all get older, these songs act like a magic blow, helping all of us to fill our minds with an endless stream of love and life.
Thank you so much Sir Paul.
Mercury may be dead but Queen deserves a Kennedy Center Honor.
Jacob Vidrine agree and Adam lambert singing vocals . No one can ever be Freddy but Adam is as close as I've ever heard in my life.
Jacob Vidrine what about Mika??
No they don´t!
MrMonroe1957 Why?

Watching one of my Idols ( Steven Tyler ) sing a Tribute to my All-Time Idol ( Paul McCartney ) brought me to Tears with Goosebumps. Love it Glenn Augustyn
As good and as famous as all of these people were... combine it all and multiply by 10 and Paul still has them... by far.
way to state the obvious......well said nonetheless.
John Mongani
well said ..perfect.

Loooooooved how they staggered the "let it be" in harmony towards the end of the song. Loved it!

would love to hear Tyler do the entire 2nd side of Abbey road. It was too short.
Steven Tyler just blew my mind away!!! He really is the soul in this show
Sir James Paul MacCartney...thank you. Just thank you...my life would be sadder without your art.
11:27 ....Paul is VERY mooved, and tears are definitively begining to grow is his eyes...
Jeeez...I wish I knew to what memories this song sent him !
I think I'm in love with Nora Jones

Brilliant tribute. Steven Tyler crushed it.
Music and it;s angelic performers, God's gift , imagine the great concert that awaits in Heaven!. Thanks Paul you are special!
Wow, even Paul and his wife were excited that James Taylor was there. Feather in the bonnet, James.
You can see it in their faces. Looks like Paul was a huge fan of James Taylor. His voice is so awesome.
James recorded his first album at Abbey Road Studios... Harrison and McCartney sing back-up vocals on "Carolina In My Mind" and McCartney plays bass on it too. They go way back.
James Taylor is a class act. A voice like warm honey
He was the first artist to be signed by Apple I think.
Steve L - You are correct, sir. Paul played drums and bass on You’ve Got A Friend, I do believe.
Oh my... What to said about Steven Tyler! I think the only person with more talent in the room was Paul itself!!!!! IDOLS!
Rafael Chaves
Exactly
Rafael Chaves To me not even Paul is better than Steven Tyler.

Steven Tyler and Mavis Staples= BRILLIANT.
WOW!
