From the Depths Easy Detection Tutorial - How to make AI Detect & Track Targets

  • In this tutorial i show you how to make the AI detect and track targets, the AI detection guide explains the basics on how detection works, what works best against what (now after the update, we play in BetaTest) and presents five simplified levels of equipment for detecting the enemy!

    -- Gmodism's Levels of Detection & General Tips --
    lvl1: 360 Cam + Laser Tracker
    lvl2: 360 Cam + 2x Laser Trackers + Cam Tracker
    lvl3: 360 Cam + 2x Laser Trackers + Cam Tracker + 360 Radar + Radar Tracker
    lvl4: 4x 90 Cams + 2x Laser Trackers + 2x Cam Tracker + 360 Radar + Radar Tracker
    lvl5: 4x+ 90 Cams + 4x Laser Trackers + 2x+ Cam Tracker + 4x+ 90 Radars + 2x Radar Trackers
    Against very fast targets add:
    IR cameras + IR trackers
    General system for fast aircraft:
    Radar + IR camera + IR tracker
    General system for or against submarines:
    Sonars + Wireless Snoopers, support with possible Sonar Buoy system (missile)
    Radar easily detects bulky targets from long range with heavy armour, visible structures and systems, but may miss streamlined targets of especially alloy, there cameras will detect it first, for most crafts of metal with sloped surfaces, cameras and radars have similar range.
    90 degree cameras, IRs, sonars and radars have much better accuracy, it would require many 360 versions to match the accuracy of one 90 version.
    Put 90 degree detector versions in deep 1x1 "wells" to protect them, however trackers need visual line of sight.

    I just started playing the game and the in-game tutorial had me confused. I really appreciate your efforts making these guide videosand that they're also recent. Thanks and I hope the best for you

      the in-game tutorials really are rubbish. the only useful one for me was the steam engine one, because Gmodism hasn't done one of his own yet!

    Did you know that portholes under decoration and ducts under air, also don't block the cameras the same way as glass? Neither do they block propulsion so I love ducts :D

    Great video! I like the idea of having 5 general levels for general ships and modifying them per specialty of a given ship. Would you consider doing a video on countermeasures, e.g. smoke disrupts visual, chaff disrupts radar, etc. Maybe when these changes hit stable?

    It can be hard to see, especially as a noob bc it looks like decoration, but the ai receiver actually has two connection points so for some detection components you can skip the connector block and it actually is stronger. also you can keep this in mind when placing them always so that they don't fall off when one side is broken. took me like a year to notice

    can any of these 90 degree detection pieces be mounted on spin blocks or turrets to allow them to find targets in any direction? i understand that being useless for trackers but a coincidence rangefinder on top of a spin block looks badass and it'd be sad if it weren't actually useful.

      That should work fine, even better you can put detection on a empty 2axis turret, then it will always face enemy!

    So I built my APS and now it is idle... sigh, back to the drawing board. I don't see any options for the AI to target enemy missiles, so I'm missing something there too.
