  • From The Depths INSTANT Tutorials, this time we take a big look on the AI for your systems, detection and tracking as well as weapon control and target prioritization. Stuff you should know before building autonomous vehicles and a base for future instant tutorials. Sorry it's long but there was a lot to cover XD
    lvl1: 360 Cam & Laser Tracker
    lvl2: 360 Cam & 2x Laser Trackers & Cam Tracker
    lvl3: 360 Cam & 2x Laser Trackers & Cam Tracker & 360 Radar & Radar Tracker
    lvl4: 4x 90 Cams & 2x Laser Trackers & 2x Cam Tracker & 360 Radar & Radar Tracker

    Against very fast targets add:
    IR cameras + IR trackers
    General system for or against submarines:
    Sonars + Passive Sonars + Wireless Snoopers
    - Radar easily detects bulky targets from long range with heavy armour, visible structures and systems, but may miss streamlined targets of especially alloy, there cameras will detect it first, for most crafts of metal with sloped surfaces, cameras and radars have similar range.
    - 90 degree cameras, IRs, sonars and radars have much better accuracy, it would require many 360 versions to match the accuracy of one 90 version.
    - Put 90 degree detector versions in deep 1x1 "wells" to protect them, however trackers need visual line of sight.

    Great video! I was so confused how the game taught AI. No one else had an updated AI guide either, so this was perfect timing.

    I like using detection turrets that provide good detection against the primary target. The detection turret is small and less likely to be targeted compared to the main gun turrets; as well a sub-object provides isolation from EMP. Additional trackers can be placed far apart on the main craft for redundancy (typically these would be on the extremities of the craft).

      That is really good idea, I should start doing that too, usually I only have the main turret as detection turret also

    This video is actually a lifesaver for me regarding the upcoming tourney stuff. Have no clue about AI, have a small one already running in my ship and started yesterday with a simple detection device, based on an earlier video of yours.
    So that's just the right timing for me at least.

    I typically just put some really strong detection on a turret, since that lets me get high quality detections on my primary target, then I can safely use cheaper detection elsewhere to have a general idea of where other targets are.

      Like 90 camera or 90 radar then? It's smart, but guess that 90 ones have somewhat longer detection range, if I didn't misremember.

      @@GMODISM I often build a robot head for my primary sensors, the ai only needs perfect detection for things it's trying to kill, so more general detection is fine for secondary targets.

    Wait, the Target Prioritization tells your ai what to shoot? I always thought it was telling the AI what craft should be a higher priority for the guns.

    One reason why you might want to use different channels is to have different AIs, with different detection averaging, aimpoint and target priorisation settings, controlling different weapon groups - for example, your AA guns will want to prioritise high-altitude, fast targets, which your main guns will want to prioritise big things with lots of guns.
    Also TIL wireless receivers connect on all sides. Never thought to even try that!
    Also, couldn't you if you connect the wireless receiver in the bottom center block also add four 90 degree IR cameras on the bottom of your level 5 detection cluster?

      That is true, gives better control than just setting upp the LWCs for this and allows to filter detection prioritization
      I think the receivers connect on 2 sides only..
      Should work, but the clusters is mostly representations as it would make the craft weak to have all at the same place I think.

      @@GMODISM Yep, redundancy is very important. I like to have the main gun gunhouses equipped with their own 90° detectors and trackers, that are connected to the AI that controls the main guns - that way, even if the primary AI is shot out, the ship is still capable of detecting the enemy and shooting at them.

    I've been having problems with the weapons on my builds, no matter what I place, the local weapons controller always says "controlling X weapons, 0 of which can aim at the current targets of the AI mainframe". I've looked up guides, asked online, and even followed the in game guide. But it always says the same thing, could i have any help?

      Well do they work? If you don't have targets, ie are in a battle, they won't aim towards them as they don't exist.

    Im a bit late to the party, but i have a question about manuvering you see i bough the game built a nice ship but the stern is too heavy so i put some propellers under it but even tho they are there my AI still doesnt utulize them at full power and ship sinks, how could i fix that?

      @@GMODISM thanks for the tip, i scrapped the old design and started building a new one however due to a power shortcut my pc turner off and i didnt save the hull is there a way i can restore it? i have seen that the game made many auto saves when i was building where can i find them?
