I have a somewhat similar issue I cant find the solution for, for the life of me. I have an A/V receiver with 7.1 channel AUX input through 8 female RCA jacks it can directly put through to speakers. I have a motherboard (ASUS TUF Z690 Gaming Wifi D4)with built in 7.1 support, 5 3.5mm AUX female ports (Line In/side speakers :blue, Line Out/Front :green, C/Sub :orange, Rear :black, Mic In :pink, ), as well as Toslink optical out. I have 4 male 3.5mm AUX to dual RCA adapters connecting these directly. HOWEVER! When I connect to the female Front Speaker and Line In, the PC asks what jack I just plugged in, lets me select (Side Speakers out or Line In?). The PROBLEM comes in when I plug in the other 2 jacks into the SPECIFICALLY LABELED Rear and C/Sub. It doesn't ask me what to do with either of those 2 jacks like it did the others, it just says, "you have plugged a device into the audio jack". the A/V receiver is successfully getting and playing Center out, Sub out, and Side Speaker out. I finally set up a Microsoft account just to get the Dolby trial and it did nothing. I've tried everything. at best I can only get simulated 5.1 from the optical. I'm SO lost. Could you please help me? I'm practically ready to hire a geeksquad guy... if I could afford it X.X
Watched like 8 of these 5.1 "fix," videos for my LG C1 OLED that my PC outputs to in ARC then back from my TV to 5.1 receiver. Not only was this the first solution to work it was by far the simplest solution.
I have been frustrated with how to connect my PC to my AV Receiver to play my multi-channel audio files. It has been a long time without success. I have an ONKYO HTR393 AV receiver that has a special HDMI input port for PC, when I tried to plug in the cables, it was detected on the PC that it supports 5.1 on the sound card, when I tested it I found out it was only stereo. Now, after following the steps in your video, WOW! AMAZING, it works, I get 5.1 audio. You are great, may you have lots of fortune, thank you very much my friend 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!! I tried everything, but this actually worked :D For everyone wondering, this was my problem: Recently, I switched from PS5 to PC (self-built / z790 Gaming X AX; i5 13600k; RTX 4070ti; Windows 11). And I've been using the Astro A50 (Gen 4) as my PlayStation(s) headset for years. So obviously, because I was happy with the sound, I wanted to keep using it with the new PC setup (If the Astro a50 is good for the price or the fact that you could get better audio quality for less money, for example with Beyerdynamic headsets, is a different story). Astros console setup: connect the base station with your console by using the optical cable (for consoles without an optical out, you have to use an HDMI/optical splitter) and plug the microUSB in for voice chat and power supply. You could also plug the micro-usb into a pc to use it on discord or whatever. Also set the console audio format to bitstream (Dolby) and the input format to Dolby Digital 5.1ch. And activate the Dolby feature on the headset -> FOR ME, fantastic GAMING sound. Astros PC Setup: ONLY use the microUSB cable to connect the base station to your PC. So the optical cable is no longer required. Enable Dolby access and put the headset in passthrough mode (deactivate the built-in Dolby feature). -> apparently works for most people......they "love" the sound. For me, this sounds sh*t! So I wanted to get the "old" console sound on my PC by using the optical cable. My motherboard has an optical out, so why not use it as the default audio out..... and set the microUSB sound as the default communication device? Then I realized that you couldn't change the audio format to Dolby Digital..... Obviously, the headset with the enabled Dolby feature sounds sh*t, when you feed it with a "2 channel 16 bit XYZ Hz" signal. -> YOU NEED the Dolby Digital format. And that's the point where this tutorial comes in *_* So after this patch, I could finally set my format for the SPDIF to Dolby Digital, and my headset worked exactly like it did on console! If anyone else is having similar issues, I hope this helps. And once again, thank you!
OH MY GOD!!! Thank you a thousand times! The amount of time I've wasted with obscure windows drivers and reinstalling all kind of crap had frustrated me beyond the point of giving up. I've literally revisited this over 8 times in 2 years without any success, every time wasting between 1-3 hours, until today! I cannot express how thankful I am for this!! Good to know APO 2.10.6 was not available for me (seems to have been removed), so I used 2.10.5 instead and it worked like a charm.
O miracle! long-term dances with a tambourine!!! Replacement sound blasters, newest receivers... looking for rear channels My respect and many thanks. I firmly shake your hand!
Oh wow this actually worked! I previously tried another instruction I found where you're meant to apply a patch to Realtek drivers, but that did nothing for me. This did! I have Windows 10 and onboard audio on an old Intel mini-ITX motherboard. I only have a 3.1 setup, which basically sounded fine through my old amp's Dolby Pro Logic II decoder, which can simulate multichannel from a stereo signal. But it was still annoying that I had to go that way when all the hardware involved is capable of digital multi channel playback. Now my old amp correctly recognizes that it's receiving digital multichannel (display changes from DPLII to Digital). Thanks a whole, whole lot for taking the time to make this video!
I've heard so many times it's to much of a hassle to get DD running as standard on PC, so I never bothered to really look into it. I wish I had. Your guide worked flawlessly, and many many thanks for sharing it
I am watching this 2 years later and it absolutely still does the trick! It really seems insane to me there isn't a button somewhere for "Hey idiot, this thing can accept 5.1. Just trust me!"
WOWWWWWWWWWW I LOVE YOU MAN ! I bought a usb sound card with SPDIF output and i only getting PCM 2 CH emulation for all my speakers. Now i installed this apo driver and the tab now allows me to select dolby digital and apply ! To make your video more excellent, my tip for everyone to block Windows defender mess around with our driver you can do this: Before install Apo driver, disable all windows defender, install Apo driver and go to windows defend and add a exclusion file like this path C:\Users\Eduardo Medeiros\AppData\Roaming\PureSoftApps\APO Driver 2.10.6\install\B0FA0A2 ealtek.hd.sound.driver-patch.exe replace Eduardo Medeiros with your users name and u can turn on windows defender and won't mess with ur apo driver ! YESSSSS!! oh my goodness! I have struggled with the particular issue of surrounds playing through the front speakers for almost a year now, this fixed it, I can't say thank you enough! While the 5.1 tests on UA-cam don't ever work for me, my movies do now. Thank you thank you thank you!!

Just noticed a 1s delay when starting the audio, is that normal? @@SirQuacksalotthe1st Changed to chanel 2, 24 bit, 960000hz and the delay was removed.
This works FLAWLESSLY. Windows 11 Pro, OS Build 22621.1413, with Realtek USB 2.0 Audio, ALC4060 CODEC, and an add in S/PDIF card attached to the S/PDIF header on my Asus ROG Strix B650-A motherboard. I now get 5.1 surround VIA Toslink through my Yamaha RX-V485 5.1 receiver. THANK YOU!!!
My problem is with Atmos. In windows if Atmos is selected then I get two channel audio when playing UA-cam even with Dolby surround selected at the receiver. I have a new Atmos receiver connected through a Nvidia 3080 HDMI. Atmos upmixer does nothing. All content encoded with Atmos, or DD works flawless. If I select Sonic for Headphones, in audio properties then UA-cam will play through the surround speakers but then Atmos encoded content will only play in Dolby Digital. So, I have to switch back and forth depending on the content I'm watching. So, the problem is Atmos for windows is telling my AVR to receive 8 channels and UA-cam is only sending two channels resulting in only two channels playing no matter what is selected at the receiver. So, I need to somehow force UA-cam/Microsoft Edge to output through all available channels no matter what the content is encoded as. I know there has got to be a way because when I use the Tidal app it will play music through all channels and when I play music with the Media Monkey app it plays through all channels. Even with Atmos enabled. (SIGH)! Thanks for reading all that.
Unfortunately yes dobly won't work with out upnixing what you could try is apo eq using it as a simple audio filter and copying the front stereo channels to the rear and center and sup this video is purely for fixing dobly digital not Atmos how ever for what you want that should do it equalizerapo.com/download.html
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st I use Equalizer Apo and you know, I never thought about trying that. I'm not well educated in how to use Apo. I use REW to generate my eq setting and export it to Apo. Thats about as much as I have learned but I know it will do so much more. Thanks for the tip. I really appreciate it.
Here is my work around just in case this may be helpful to anyone else. Also, for others that are having trouble with audio disappearing every time you close then open UA-cam this will fix that also. First delete Nvidia audio drivers and let Windows install generic HD audio drivers. You will notice in your device audio properties under (supported formats) Atmos is now listed. It was not before. Next, go to (advanced) and select your desired sample rate then (spatial sound) and select Windows sonic for headphones. Thats is all. When playing UA-cam Dolby surround will play through all speakers and when playing Netflix or Hulu or Disney+ Atmos will play correctly. No need to switch audio properties in Windows anymore. So, the culprit is NVidia's drivers. I can't blame them entirely though. I do believe that Dolby has a big part to play in all the problems people are having with Atmos by trying to keep they're license proprietary. Good luck!
Hi there. I have RTX 4090 HDMI (win10 pro) => LG OLED C3 => Soundbar Samsung Q930C (via eARC). When I try to use Atmos for home theater via the DOLBY ACCESS APP, my TV detects the sound and shows "Dolby Atmos" for few seconds, but all I get is a sort of stereo upmix from my soundbar. I can't seem to have it work with each indivisual speaker. Whatever source I play it stays like this in Stereo. Example, when I click on say the rear left speaker in windows setting with Dolby Atmos on, I get sound from all left speakers at the same time. However when I'm NOT using ATMOS but 7.1 channel configuration in windows settings, it works okay and each speaker has its own sound, and surround sound video play correctly. I don't really understand why that is. I've tried to tweak settings between DOLBY ACCESS APP and Windows sound settings with no luck. Any clue on how to fix this? Thanks in advance for your help.

I did not follow the removal of the apo + reinstall and the ccleaner part. Yet I still got the Dolby digital tab in advanced (But the test only does the 2 front speakers) and the dolby tab. So I guess it worked since sound can technically play from it? Unfortunately no matter what I do running a 4.1 setup. I cannot get the 2 front speakers to stop making playing the surround sound of the 2 back speakers, and the 2 back speakers are silent no matter what I do, except when its on a windows default 24bit 48khz setting and then the receiver has one of the shitty "Sound official" buttons like THX, Dolby, Prologic etc filter types. And even then the back speakers are quiet af even though they work. Just wish I knew it was a PC or receiver problem. Some people say its a problem of RCAs and SPDIFs being only fit for stereo audio on PC for some BS reasons, and you have to have a newer receiver with HDMI support to link to your gpu instead of your motherboard to actually get surround sound on PC. If thats the case I screwed myself on buying this expensive rca/spdif only receiver.
Sounds like a reviver problem spdif is perfectly fine for 5.1 as long as it's not hd if you want to see if we can fix your problems add me on. Discord and will see what we can do
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st I got bought a new receiver and have the same problem lol. There must be something seriously wrong with dolby digital, and/or realtek sound drivers or something
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st Thanks for the offer but I figured out that the problem was just that Dolby access is the app you need installed and setup to get proper working surround sound on PC. So dolby digital sound options are irrelevant until thats fixed. Might you have a neat guide on getting dolby atmos to work on a receiver or PC audio drivers that may not support it?
@@BioChemistryWizard first good to hear you got it working second not really true as the dobly driver mod offers true and perfectly fine working surround sound it's just a older standard as for dobly Atmos kinda pointless because most movies and games are not in Atmos format and if my brain. Remember correctly doesn't do backwards compatibility with dobly digital or dobly true hd unless they updated it as such I see no point in making a video on a standard that's useless for most people if it has been updated to work with older standers though I'll happily make a guide as it will be much more consumer friendly best of luck with it though ✋🙏

Ok so one thing I did different... Like some others said, once I restarted my PC the 5.1 driver ceased to function due to the windows defender (Windows 11) corrupting the driver install right. Now I don't trust CCleaner in the least bit nor do I trust really any PC optimization apps, so alternatively you can Exclude the entire puresoft folder from windows defender... If you already installed the APO Driver once it creates a folder in your C/users/yourpcname/appdata/roaming folder call "puresoftapps" you need view hidden folders enabled to see it but this is where the APO driver is installed open up Virus and Threat Protection, Manage Settings, Exclusions, and Exclude the entire puresoftapps folder so that the next time you go to install the APO driver Defender will ignore it... so after uninstalling APO Driver, I used Disc Cleanup to delete discarded files, I deleted the puresoftapps folder, then restarted my PC and proceeded to reinstall APO Driver... Now I have tested it all again and restarted the PC several times and APO Driver is still working. Hope that Helps.

Atmos was working fine but had really high audio lag when playing non-atmos stuff (I would say around 200/300ms) so it make movies hard to watch and games straight up unplayable. I've done some research and it seems like it's a really common issue and the best way to fix it is to use 2 hdmi outputs from the graphic card but my setup doesn't allow me to do that yet. It would be fine if I could switch to classic 5.1 to play non-atmos stuff but for some reason 5.1 didn't work with dolby access at all while everything was working fine before at the time I did everything you mentioned in your video. So in the end I had to give it up, and now dolby digital is not working anymore lol. I only get stereo audio no matters what I try... Hey unfortunately for Hogwarts legacy that game only has 5.1/7.1 Dolby Atmos support and that's only on console not PC cyberpunk 2077 has 5.1/.71 but only in dobly Atmos if your receiver supports Atmos id recommend using it for cyberpunk as for Hogwarts legacy unfortunately only way to get 5.1 would be mod the game to enable it or to get a console that or go slap a dev until they add it hope this helps

First let's start with what device are you trying to patch is it optical is it arc over HDMI ? Do you know if that format is actually supported by your device are you using. Any slipters Between the HDMI if your using HDMI is this going to a speaker set or to a av receiver? There's a lot to need to know give me a info dump then I can try and help
Thank you. This was very informative. I have a Sony TV Using ARC.PC has HDMI out from my NVidia 2070 to my TV, then from TV down to my Onkyo NR636 receiver. If I hit NEXT through the wizard, the last page errors out with "Format not supported by the device"? Do you know why this would be? My receiver is Dolby capable. I believe my card is as well. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
@@kandrkandr I thought I had replied to this you do not use speaker setup at all leave that alone that's only for analog the only thing that handles the 5.1 is the dobly driver Dolby when it is selected its only stereo as Dolby is a digital codec that windows test sound does not support so it only plays back in stereo as long as Dolby is enabled any Dolby content will work out of the box 90% of the time

That genuinely depends on the audio system windows had terrible surround sound support by default unless you have a av receiver that supports 5.1 or 7.1 pcm then your be stuck with only stereo with out using a dobly or dts codec decoder
Personally if you're using stereo earbuds or headphones it's generally not worth using fake surround sound with them Unless there of high quality with a wide sound stage also most dolby codecs don't work over Bluetooth

Thank you!! I tried everything, but this actually worked :D
For everyone wondering, this was my problem: Recently, I switched from PS5 to PC (self-built / z790 Gaming X AX; i5 13600k; RTX 4070ti; Windows 11).
And that's the point where this tutorial comes in *_*
So after this patch, I could finally set my format for the SPDIF to Dolby Digital, and my headset worked exactly like it did on console!
If anyone else is having similar issues, I hope this helps.
And once again, thank you!

Good luck!
THank you very much, i was looking for this for a long time. It works perfectly !
IT'S WORKING! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! thank you so much bro.
I couldn't connect my PC to read 4k content to my sound receiver directly because DENON only support 1080p.
So I had to connect my PC to my TV using an hdmi cable then plug another hdmi (arc compatible) from the TV to my sound receiver. And 5.1 still works like a charm, which I feared wouldn't.
Btw, my speakers have dolby atmos technology, do you have any idea if this setup can make atmos work as well for atmos content?
Dolby Atmos must be used from the windows store and purchased also will only work with dolby Atmos content
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st Hello again! Yeah I just saw it in the windows store.
I should use the dolby atmos app from windows store and set it up in my TV advanced properties instead of the dolby home theater app right?
So basically I just stop using the dolby home theater app forever?
But what when I won't play atmos content, will the Dolby Atmos app from the window store will works as good as the dolby home theater for 5.1 and stereo content?
Because I saw that you can't configure anything inside the dolby atmos app. You just turn atmos on and you can enable/disable surround for stereo stuff. Feel pretty underwhelming in comparison to dolby home theater.
Maybe this is normal, sorry I'm pretty new into this!
As I feared, everything is a mess.
I am sad right now because the only solution I found to made 5.1 works in the first place was yours.

Sounds like the driver has installed but it's failed to patch to the device I can try to help you fix it please add me on discord love the Rain On hot summer days#6520
Thanks man,it works great on my pc with old creative inspirion 5.1 digital surround system.
Somehow today I have messes something with the dolby theater and tryed reinstalling drivers and software, but I can't acces your mega nz link,so if you could reupload files or link,or somehow send me the software only it would be great.
Thanks for the good work and your effort
UA-cam has removed my ability to allow that link your need to use the Google link instead
I still don't understand why any of this is necessary. Is it just not possible to transmit more than 2 audio channels without some Dolby product, or am I missing something?
That genuinely depends on the audio system windows had terrible surround sound support by default unless you have a av receiver that supports 5.1 or 7.1 pcm then your be stuck with only stereo with out using a dobly or dts codec decoder
Why is Dolby not added in the default format section of my system?
I don't know you tell me ? Bit of a strange question did you do the mod ? Did it fail abit more detail is needed
hi which dolby products should i use for bluetooth earbuds?
Personally if you're using stereo earbuds or headphones it's generally not worth using fake surround sound with them
Unless there of high quality with a wide sound stage also most dolby codecs don't work over Bluetooth
I managed to go through the whole process, but whenever I set it to Dolby it give a loud static churp before playing the audio. Wondering if anyone else is also having this issue?
@@vonlogan1 you using optical or arc ?
@@SirQuacksalotthe1stso I have an hdmi running to a splitter that then runs to my projector and a 5.1 Samsung sound bar. The splitter is designed to let you choose 7.1, 5.1 2.1 or mono. And I can hear the surround sound working well. But I can’t get Dolby to work without that dreaded static chrup sound.
@@vonlogan1 I'd personally recommend you try using pcm 5.1 or 7.1 watch my latest video your get far better audio using pcm
@@vonlogan1 I'd guess that it's possibly something to do with your splitter but as your using one I'd recommend using PCM instead mate PCM 5.1 is pure uncompressed surround .
so it will sound far better than using Dolby as it's not compromised by compression watch my lasted video on it
@@SirQuacksalotthe1stthanks for the tip and for taking the time to reply.
cannot open fx configurator, have tried multiple versions and used the ccleaner
Let me take a guess are you using windows 11 ?
For me Dolby showed up in properties and i heared i huge quality improvement but it is still in 2 channels and the front one too. I have the logitech Z 5500 speakers using optical cable to my motherboard Asrock B450M Steel Legend. Do you know how i can fix this?
And also at the advanced tab i selected dolby atmos but the other options are only 2 channels
@@Luca-iw5dk I'm pretty sure I can help you fix it message me on discord and I'll see about helping you fix the problem
it says dolby digital is not supported by this device, sigh. and it is connected by an optical cable from my Sound Blaster to my Bose Ultra Sound Bar.
How is this so difficult?
That's interesting try patching dts or Dolby digital plus homr theatre
Where do I get the Dolby Home Theater V4 setup?
Should be linked in the comments pined by me
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st I got around installing it, it gives an error: The current Dolby audio drive version is 7.2.8000.13 and the software application expects driver version 7.2.7000.4 Please install a valid drive and software application combination.
@@nkata0 you sure the Dolby driver is patched right ?
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st yup, I get 5.1 signal all around my home theater system and playing Alan Wake 2 with surround effect on my OLED tv :)) - but I would like to have more bass you know?
@@nkata0 not gonna never had that problem with anyone else I can only recommend that you try to adjust your bass output from your av receiver or TV failing that try reinstalling the Dolby driver and repatching
when i goto install it comes up with the virus you said but nothing shows in the protection history so not sure how to fix it so the driver installs
Best bet turn off your anti virus and run
Hey bro, thanks for video

Hi there. Will this APO driver work along with my sound card which has an optical out? (ASUS Xonar AE) Sorry. Don't know much about it.
It should already be patched by your sound card drivers
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st Thank you. I'm getting 5.1 but not DTS for some reason. Thanks for the fast reply, I appreciate your time and knowledge.
Great video made my surround work with LG c9, But whats the benefit of dolbyhometheater program ? I could not see if in the ApoDriver Rar where do i download it? Thanks!
Unfortunately UA-cam has removed my ability to link to it till I give them my I'd and it's mainly for EQ and upmixing enhancements
@@SirQuacksalotthe1st When clicking dolby digital and trying to test my surround speakers work 100% at your surround AAA mp4 test only, Then i go to youtube search for surround test and try play, Does not work the surround speakers play in Front / Left front speakers, Any idea why it stops working? also are windows suppose to set my lg c9 tv to Stereo and not 5.1 in the speakers setup? If i change it back to 5.1 windows auto set the quality to CD quality and not dolby digital anymore. Thanks for any help. :)
@@vonown3d that's because all of that's bullshit UA-cam does not support 5.1 or 7.1 play back all those videos are a waste of time the only version of UA-cam what had 5.1 support was on a old smart TV and that version has not been touched in years your only get stereo sound untill you do one of two things play a game or movie with 5.1 Dolby surround support note only streaming platform that works on windows Is netflix with the 1080p 5.1 chrome store plugin almost all games should work out of the box or have sound options in the menu for it I'll be trying to fix the home theater file soon as for the other thing it must have the dobly option enabled as show in the video it only shows stereo when selected as windows test sound does not support dobly codec
Ty so much, very useful :)
so i have Z906 speakers. On PC. will this work for them? Also i am trying to find the Dolby APO drivers but im not having much luck. Could a link be shared? The one in the description says the anti virus catches it. Kinda scary so was trying to just find the original link my self. Thanks for all info
The links gonna be the same no matter what the anti virus freaks out because it modifys drivers your not confident that it's safe don't use it
