You are so talented! It was a lovely end to what was a great movie. Beverly, did you ever share the lyrics to this song? Couldn't find them anywhere and wondered what was the first word of the third verse "______ soldier".
I’ll just share the story here - Being a huge Romero fan, I always loved this song at the end of “The Crazies” but could never find it anywhere - Spotify, iTunes, UA-cam (until now) this song just couldn’t be found in a digital form. Hell, I couldn’t even find a CD with it on it. So I went on EBay and was really happy to find someone selling the 45 so I had to buy it and then I sent it to have it digitally created. I’m really glad I did it, because who knows how many original 45s there are still out there of this song, not to mention it’s getting older too. Now, it’s preserved forever on here and anyone can have access to it.
Tom Mckendrick Found it on EBay for $30, and then $35 to have the 45 digitally created. It was well worth it for myself, and to share with all you guys as well.
It’s not over. May Heaven help us smack some sense into our heads to swallow our fears, take this shit seriously and protect each other so it may one day end.

I first saw this film on TV when I was about 15 in 1978. It blew me away, especially at the end when this fabulous song comes in. It perfectly suits the ending. Brings back many great memories of that time .
PURE CLASSIC POP GOLD!!... Thank you so very much for posting and sharing this "lost and VERY rarely heard anymore" gem that "Bubbled Under" on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, peaking at a much-too-low in my humble opinion #110 back in late 1972 for Beverly, which was written by Carole Bayer Sager and Melissa Manchester..I thoroughly enjoyed listening, and the sound quality is TOP-NOTCH too! This song sounds hopeful and upbeat in a sort of ironic way, because at the end we find out that Trixie is actually spreading further rather than having been contained. Terrifying.

Such a beautiful song, so evocative. It's (sorry) CRAZY to imagine that this was recorded for a movie. A perfect tune.

The only thing I can truly knock the remake for is not including this somewhere.

Puting aside this personal issue, the remake is quite good, even the producers bothered to call Linn Lawry to make a small cameo.
Looking for this since the 1980s.

Feel like it was written for the movie
I think it fits perfectly, the lyrics reflect the hopeless situation and at the end there is no safe place and hope.
