Juan is that GOAT and I still watch his old videos on LOG from back when he was making youtube vids. Dude is a beast. The powergrade is definitely the way to go. Can’t wait to shoot some more and see how it looks in different scenarios and also grade on the look itself.
This is some of the best footage ive seen out of a pocket 4k. And that powergrade man, what kind of sorcery is that? lol. It looks so good. Makes the buttery lut look OK at best.
@@YannickGalaske first time ive seen a grading preset that i actually want to buy. Ive tried pulling this off myself, i get close, but yet so far! Lol. Great stuff man, keep em' coming.
I can only recommend it, man. Getting great results. And it also works as a good base if you want to grade your footage from there. Just used it on another project and I’m really satisfied with the results. Probably gonna do a follow up video soon to show off some more comparisons between other luts.
Yes absolutly, but that also means it is a lot more time consuming. So it always depends what purpose you're after. For corporate work I see myself using the Buttery LUTs a lot.
You'd get much better results using a color managed workflow with davinci resolve and not using any luts. This camera has a gorgeous image by itself and has no need for creative LUTs. Try this: Davinci YRGB Color Managed Input: Same as Timeline Timeline: Davinci Wide Gamut/Davinci Wide Intermediate Timeline luminance: HDR1000 Output: Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 Davinci will automatically map the RAW image to Rec.709 color space using math in a non-destructive way. Best of all the corrections you do will apply to the RAW image before the Rec.709 transform meaning you're manipulating the RAW image instead of the Rec.709 image meaning you get a much higher quality image.
I got the P4K2Alexa Powergrade a while ago and I definitely think it was worth the money. For me, the highlight roll-off is much nicer than Butterly, which is especially evident in that shot on the bridge towards the end.
@@YannickGalaske In the future I'd like to have a better grasp of colour grading myself, as I'm relatively new to video but experienced in photography. But for now, this makes getting my desired results much easier!
Good choice! Yes, they are pretty much like a LUT that is designed for a specific camera. It's much more complex though with a lot of nodes, that can be adjusted. It can be a little confusing at first, but it will give you much more control than a simple LUT r709 conversion.
Hey I want to purchase this powergrade, but I also want to use it in camera as a LUT. If you purchase just the powergrade can you also use the LUT's in camera? Or do you have to purchase the LUTS & Powergrade. Thank you!
I don’t, but Juan explains how it works pretty well. There is also a tutorial on UA-cam by Justin Philip, which is pretty similar to my workflow. It’s not that complicated ✌🏻
Yeh I used it on a rokinon 35 cine with my a7iii before and it really made the image soft and gloomy, even during nighttime. But together with the p4k and sigma it pretty much always stay on. Even when I use 120fps in 2.8k. Still have to see how it works with other lenses on that sensor. Currently very interested in trying out some old Contax Zeiß Lenses.
Do you know if it's warmer in general or just yellow boost in the highlites? The P4K2Alexa seems to work really well for the popular Pro Mist modern vintage look. Great shots too. Just bought the bundle. Really like how he's transparent with the whole transform process, rare to see that.
My uneducated eye would say it gives it a very slight yellow/greenish boost to the highlights. But I barely notice it. In this example here it was just very sunny that morning and my wb was 5600k. I didn’t touch on that because I felt it fit the scene and came close to how it really looked that day. I still want to test how it gonna look indoors or on cloudy, darker days.
What lut do you use when monitoring? I bet the package comes with a lot of luts, I was actually going to buy the buttery luts but I think I like this more, I'm pretty new to my bmpcc4k and I will probably get overwhelmed by the amount of luts it comes with when it comes to monitoring. Thanks Peshti
You can’t go wrong with either of them. Both Buttery and P4K2Alexa are really great Luts that get the best out of your bmpcc4k. Buttery has definitely a more neutral look and you don’t need to do many adjustments while the P4K2Alexa gives you a more artistic look (that you can easily change in post) and much more options to work with, but also take some time of understanding it and adjusting it to the look you are after. P4K2Alexa gives much more pleasingly looking skintones imo though and having the option to change the highlight roll off is great, too. As for monitoring p4k2alexa comes with 4 on set luts (2 for iso 400 and 2 for shooting iso 800 and higher). Might seem a little bit confusing at first but even when I used the wrong lut on my monitor I still got good results. Hope this helps!
If I remember correctly I mainly used the WDR rolloff LUT. Only in scenes with not as much DR I used the WDR standard or WDR highlights only one, as they give the image more contrast and pop. That’s how I use the LUTs or the powergrade in general.
@@YannickGalaske Looks nice! I had a pocket 6K and it was great for the price. Been mostly using IPP2 & REDs 709 conversion luts as a base. Definitely have better skin tones and DR!
@@YannickGalaske this is why I prefer the Pocket 6k. Because it's important to shoot at iso 800 with this PowerGrade to preserve highlights, and there's less noise with the Pocket 6k. Did you try playing with the noise reduction node?
Hey Lee! Only for like 5-6 shots I did some minor NR. Otherwise I didn’t feel it was necessary. No doubt the p6k provides you with a cleaner image. It was more budget reason to go with a 4k and speedbooster, and also trying to save storage. Still barely send out videos in 4K for the clients I work with. Juan states on his site that shooting in iso 800 is advised but not a must. Gonna have to do some more tests to see what works best, but so far I’m happy with the results.
The powergrade is for the use in daVinci resolve. You pretty much apply the grade in the color tab and it puts multiple layers onto your log footage. It gives you some more options for customization. Glad you’re also liking the luts!
It’s recommended by Juan, so if it’s possible I go with it but I also shot a lot with higher ISOs like 3200 and it graded just fine. I’m posting a video later where I show using the luts in difficult lighting situations and compare them to Buttery. Then you can judge for yourself.
