100% agree on Value. You created a video on a trendy topic plus you sound really authentic. Authenticity seems to be what drives content these days. I was interested in this video all the way through:) Great job André! Glad I found you. I'm up to 370 subs and my most watched videos seem to be the most simple, unscripted ones. Thanks!
Thanks man :) Sometimes the simple shit is the right stuff ;) From the latest numbers on your channel it seems you are growing there as well, can't beat the GenX'ers when it comes to being late to the party, and still winning it in the long run - if it's one thing we have over the "young ones" it's patience from waitint a week between episodes of our favourite tv shows and waiting by the phone for it to ring ;) AND we're old enough to know what we want (sort of) and still young enough to have time to make it happen :)
Thanks for sharing. This video just showed on my feed so UA-cam must think you’re doing something right. You said value is what’s important but I also think you’re being genuine in your videos is a factor too. You’re just sharing and not pushing anything.
Thanks for watching and commenting, and the nice words - I try to be as me as possible, for better or worse - More fun stuff coming up, and hopefully some usefull bits as well ;)
Thank you for those kind words :) Working on a large batch of videos releasing throughout christmas and early 2025, will be interesting to see how they perform relating to the «doing tøulyoutube wrong»-video ;)
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment :) and as I checked now you've already grown to 340, great work :) Gotta say, that "UA-cam made me work 100 days for free"-title, loving it :D It has that perfect sense of quirky, as do some of the other stuff, had to sub to see where this is going :)
Thanks :) Both for watching and taking the time to comment :) Seems like you are growing your own channel pretty good as well closing in on those 500, keep up the great work :)
Pretty inspiring message! Fellow Gen X here for those that relate! I found your channel thru YT recommendation. Am a small channel tryna find that groove. I mainly focus on 40 and over (Millennial and Gen X) and talk extensively about intermittent fasting, walking, wellness, nutrition, mental health, stretching/mobility, martial arts, dance etc… as well as LIFE experiences! I’m almost reaching 300 subs and seeing a very small traction on my channel finally ! And for me, this is a big deal in itself! The only way is 🆙 🙏🏻
Gen X'ers are the best X'es :) Thanks for watching, and good luck with the channel, that feeling when the arrows are finally pointing upwards: priceless :)
@ they 💯 are and can save the current and future civilization! I’m already subbed to your channel. You’re right . When the needle starts moving 🆙, there’s so much gratification! 🙏🏻
We were listening to the advice at first, but have finally decided to do it the way we started. The way we want to. We’re growing. Slowly, but growing nonetheless. Good luck to you and your channel.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) Sometimes one just has to follow ones own path, and really: moving from Texas to Italy, now *that's* a path change for sure, and you guys are just a couple of months in publishing videos so just give it time and do it your own way and the results will come :) Also, welcome to Europe :)
Hey! Our channels are about the same size! Last week I was at 519 & today I’m at 600. This was such a good video! Thank you for sharing your experience! I just subscribed! 😊
Heya :) Thanks for those kind words :) And great hearing about your channel suddenly boosting in subs, my did as well after this video, from less than 500 to 600+ so "something" was done right I guess, but that's *nothing* compared to yours jumping over that 1k fence in no time, great job, and loving that channel intro video, the perfect amount of randomness with a purpose, and that "can do" attitude oozes through, great video indeed - also loving that shot of the tv on the log in the forrest from the Cinematic vlog, some shots are just *perfect* :D
@ Thank you!! I’m so glad you mentioned that vlog! I put so much work into that short video, and I still think it’s my favorite even though it didn’t do well. I appreciate the encouragement! I look forward to more of your content!! I’ve been using this app called vidq which has helped me with keywords. I’m not sure if that’s what helped boost my videos or what happened but you’re going to hit that sweet spot very soon! I’m still 1k watch hours away from being monetized 🤞❤️
Hei! Ny subscriber her😉 Vil absolutt anbefale å lage gode Shorts videoer for å vokse raskt på UA-cam. Det har hjulpet meg veldig. Får utrolig mye følgere der kontra long form videoer.
I ran across this video by accident and, I know this is kind of irrelevant, but I just wanted to say that, as an American, I'm so intrigued by your (I assume) Norwegian accent. You could almost pass as a Midwestern American (and please don't take that as an insult from me. I'm a Midwesterner myself 🤣). Anyway, good luck with the channel!
Hahahahaha, that's one of the best comments I've seen in a looong time :) And no insults takten :D My accent is most likely a result of learning, and speaking english from an early age through a *lot* of movies, skateboardmovies, graffitimovies, all of that, combined with having worked in New York and Dallas for several months, having worked with *a lot* of foreign people in different jobs speaking english on a daily basis but with many influences, having friends in the south of the US around Mississippi / New Orleans as well as spending some time there and in Chicago and what not. Combine that with my current "job" running my quad skate shop in Norway with a customer base where 50% don't speak norwegian - basically lots of different influences, which from what I remember the Midwest American accent is also a result of, in terms of european immigrants way back in the day + being in the middle of the east and west as well? You should hear my accent after vacationing in New York for a couple of weeks, and then hear it after staying in the south for a couple of weeks ... I'm a sponge and I almost sound like two different people ; Thanks for taking the time to comment and making my day, much appreciated :)
@@AndreSjoberg That's awesome! I've heard some Swedes on UA-cam whose accents sound a bit American, but I think this is first time I've heard a Norweigen on UA-cam. I even watched all of "Lillyhammer" on Netflix back in the Day. ha! I've always been amazed by how well Nordic people speak English as a whole as you are definitely no exception. Again, good luck with the channel. You've earned one more sub! :)
great job, ive been enjoying the content. im five years in and just hit 500+ this year, i must be doing really wrong mode haha also, always love you workshop too
Thanks man, thanks for watching and taking time to comment :) Your workshop is awesome to dude, I think we are on the same wavelength there indeed, looking forward to some more shop and skatecontent though, don't give up now, you're almost at 600, and I just tipped 600 :D Keep it up man, would love to see some more stuff from around your shop, and I got some stuff planned for the holidays, just need to get a couple of "simpler" videos edited and done before I start on the big "SHOP BONANZA" trying to transform it into a totally different beast, so many plans, so little time - but my microramp inside the workshop is soon coming out from hiding, it will be glorious :)
@@AndreSjoberg thanks, the inspiration you give is real, theres a lot we overlook as not exciting because we live in our own lives, but just seeing you being yourself, even though we have a lot of similarities, the perspective is fresh haha. love seeing around your work shop space.
Now that's 250 more than last year innit :D Just gotta take one day at the time and keep on rolling that tape ;) Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated :)
Hey dude, just wanted to say that you're an inspiration. I've been folowing you for a while and coincidentally, was also considering giving a shot to video making. Now this video came out at the perfect time and it is that little push I needed to get started. If I ever manage to be somewhat succesfull, it was all thanks to you!
@@Ariel_Teran Woah, thanks man :) Love to hear it, and happy to have inspired someone :) I’ll be making a couple of follow-up videos the coming weeks on how to just get going with a simple process for figuring things out step by step instead of being overwhelmed by trying to do *everything* at once and just give up, hopefully they will be helpful in getting you going even further :) Thanks for the support :)
I love the way you address this issue, as there are so many channels that try to find out the secret for UA-cam. In my experience (I have other channels) one video can blow up a channel if it is popular. I have seen this happen to lots of channels. What I can say is if you have a number of videos that manage to get a good about of views 10k+ then you will see channel growth. And the thing is that you never know when a video will be popular. My son used to do a channel that I managed for him and most of his videos were about Crazy Aaron’s thinking putty and even though all the videos were about the thinking putty they all got different amounts of views ranging from 27k to a few hundred. I used keywords and optimised the videos as much as I could, but it did not seem to make much difference. So for me there are two main things, the first being to make videos about a topic or item that people are interested in. I also think thumbnails are important as they are the thing that draws people to your video in the first place. For anyone reading this just remember that it only takes one successful video to change the direction of your channel.
I’m still listening. I’m growing like you to. I have no idea what I’m doing right or not but I’m almost four months in, I’m my way to 500. I’m far from 4000 watch hours but I fall short in delivery and thumbnail....sigh. Whatever keeps my little faith based channel alive, I’m grateful and thankful. Wishing you all the very best sir
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :) And as far as results go: if you're 4 months in and almost at 500 you are doing *something* right :) as for the watchtime, taking a good hard honest look at your videos and see exactly what in your videos give people some value of some kind, and working on getting that value across as fast as possible in the videos might just push those watchtime hours up, just refining and focusing on providing some kind of value in every sentence and paragraph might just be the boost you need to see those hours climbing :) Best wishes and good luck :)
Thank you for the advice. I’m trying to make it to the half way point and beyond. Kinda stuck at the same number though. But I’m not giving up 👏🏼 Subscribed!
Never give up and never surrender :) Suddenly one hits the spot of likeminded people and all the hard work pays off when they discover you have loads of goodies in store already on your channel :) Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, and good luck on nailing that halfway point :)
Thanks :) And thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) And yeah, something is right, even though most of it is done "wrong" (according to someone on the internets) - like how that video suddenly added 120-something subscribers jumping from less than 500 to a little above 600 subs in under a week :)
Great video… I just got monitized in September…. I’m still trying to grow my channel…. I agree… you need to have good content and provide value for the person watching…. Sometimes it’s good to be lucky… keep making content… I have liked, commented and subscribed! Rock on from Winnipeg Canada!
Of course, one should never say no to a little luck, but hard work is where it's at, which is why I'm not there yet ;) Loving the stuff you do documenting all the artists and bands, coming from a background of co-running a music venue (in norwegian it's called a Rock Club as in basically booking a lot of smaller bands and some large ones to fund the smaller ones, mainly being run by volunteers) I can appreciate people to spend their time documenting stuff like that, keep up the great work :)
Great video and like so many have already said, you’re nice to listen to. I’ve watched to the end, liked and subscribed.. here to support small channels 🎉❤
Thank you for those kind words :) And thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, more weirdness and hopefully usefull stuff coming up soon :)
Thanks :) Uh, yeah, this video sort of took off and bumped me from less than 500 to aboce 600, so "something" went right :) And yes, I'm born and bred in Norway, but spent a lot of time in the US both in New York, Dallas and also New Orleans and Mississippi and stuff, even went to Dollywood at some point in time for thanksgiving :)
@ I’m from Canada, my maiden name is Gjerme, my maternal grandfather was born in North Dakota, his parents were from Norway, and my paternal grandparents were both born in Norway. Needless to say we are proud Canadian/Norwegians - it’s nice to meet you
@ Ahaaaaa :) Nice to meet you :) Gjerme isn’t a very common norwegian last name I’ve heard before (like Olsen and Hansen and the like) so I had to do a little google search to see where it’s most prominent, and would it be way off to guess your relatives would be from the west coast region of either hordaland or rogaland, type bergen or stavanger areas?
@@StianTorp Hahaha, thanks :) but am I really, or am I just riding the wave of authenticity, faking this whole thing ;) Maybe I’m *usually* relaxing at home in a pricey suit and good cigar in my smoking jacket, only putting on this persona to gain cred on the ‘tube … Keep an eye out for my next video «Authentic 50 year old creator stops editing his videos and blows up filming in a car»
I started my first channel just over 2 yrs ago and a second channel almost 1 yr ago (I don't know what I was thinking, and I don't think I would do that again 😂). The first has over 4,000 subs, and the second is just under 1,000 subs. I do most things wrong according to UA-cam wisdom. I get stressed out about that sometimes, but it doesn't stress me out enough to follow the lead and stop beating my own drum or experimenting in my own fashion. I often feel like I am so far behind where I should be. But videos like yours help me relax into my own unconventional process and think maybe I am not doing as bad as I think I am. Thank you, and keep up the good work.
Thank you for those lovely words :) As for behind or in front of where one should be: my simple philosophy is I'm just where I'm supposed to be, and I can move everywhere I want to, it just might take a bit of time to get there :) You will always be doing better than you think you are as long as your are doing something :) - And that Voodoo Doll ... makes me wanna learn how to crochet, would look great in my New Orleans Voodoo Corner :D
That was interesting...not even sure how your video came up..lol Interesting hearing people's stories of what happened for them on UA-cam. I had 2 kids videos (cause I run kids channel) that did well and helped me get to nearly 3000 watch hours and then cause I didn't get loads of views after that, 12 months past and then I lost nearly all my watch time hours, back down to like 600 watch hours and countless hours of editing. So I'm still trying to figure out if it's worth it. Now I more do it for the fun of it, cause I love video editing not sure if I'll ever get my channel monetized. But hope everything keeps on the up and up for you.
Hah, you and me both, no idea why this popped up in so many peoples homepage feeds, probably the YT algorithm doing some black magic ;) And *oufh* sorry to hear that about the channel hours loss - but looking at your channel now, several videos past weeks hitting above 1k - looks like things are going the right way after all, *and* closing in on 1k subs as well - you are doing *something* right so just keep on doing *that* :) Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, much appreciated :)
I redesigned my channel page when coming home to my own sloppy design was making me barf. Good design doubled my watch time and subscribers, but it wasn't at the top of my list when I started, nor was my redesign due to wanting to gain more watch time or subscribers. Keep in mind that you lose any watch time that's older than 12 months that many growing channels stagnate after the first year. A niche is just a target audience category, like product reviews or DIY, something you want your channel to become known for. Your cardboard camera tripod was ingenious, lol. I'm going to try that.
Now that's a lot of truth in one comment, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :) Very aware of the only last 12 months count, which is why I've been focusing on outputting slightly more videos now, my channel didn't really get any views (or I didn't really post any "proper" videos) until march this year, except for 2 in october last year that no longer counts, so I have until febuary to "get some more momentum" :) - but I have *so much stuff* filmed right now, just need to dig down through christmas to edit it all, and there should be plenty of stuff for the coming months :) As for "niches", yeah, I look at creating stuff and making shit happen as my niche and take it from there, hopefully providing enough entertainment along the way for people who might not necessarily fall directly into that category to find it interesting nontheless and take it from there, and then we'll see where that takes us ;)
Great video! I appreciate your time, thank you for sharing this insight. Your doing great with your channel , congratulations on your growth 👍I love having a UA-cam channel...kinda 🤦♀️😂 Stay Blessed 🙏
Loving that comment, "I love having a UA-cam channel...kinda" :) It's how it should be isn't it, can't be all roses and butterflies all the time, but having that creative outlet beats everything :)
I came across this video and stopped to listen because, based on your appearance, I believed you were going to be authentic and provide value. I wasn't disappointed. You may have been lucky with a couple of videos, but overall, you are just so authentic that you deserve attention. I watched all the way to the end, by the way.
Thanks for taking the time to comment here as well (or the other way around, I'm working my way through these comments in the wrong order ;) - Yeah, I did get lucky with a couple of vids, and at the same time the feedback on my other "smaller" videos do seem to show there is a general interest amongst my "weirdo" little tribe for the odd stuff, gonna be fun to see what the future brings :) and thanks for watching all the way, looks like about 20% did so, and that's a lot in my book, much appreciated :)
I'm new and growing slowly as well. You can be to 2,000 watch hours but if it's been 9 months that's only 3 months to get the other 2,000 hours which isn't really 1/2 way. (You can do it!) The watch hours is what I'm working on next! I need 1900 and have just under 6 months to get there, because I want to use the hours from my first months. I made several mistakes!!!
Hahahahaha, loving your channel handle :D And yes, it's been 9 months for those first 2000 - but at the same time, looking at my "less than consistent" output getting close to 2000 in 9 months is "a miracle" in my case ;) Which is kind of the point of the video: Even if you feel you don't have time to do things every week, or every other week: don't stop. and looking at what happened with that video suddenly I jumped from less than 500 to above 600 subs, and the watchtime soared from people not only checking that video out, but watching others as well - so even though I "just" have a month and a half left of the year, and 2 more months until my first "proper" video was released, the accumulated increase in views now for each video means that the amount of months it took me to get here is not equal to the time it might take me to get the double of that (which is sort of part of this experiement, seeing how the rate changes as the subs increase over time :)
OK, consistent value, granted. But I'm saying only one thing - personality. That's your best and biggest asset. I could watch any topic you choose to talk about, because of that 🙂
Hahahahaha, thanks for those kind words my friend :) I do have to admit I do enjoy ranting on in front of the camera, much more than I anticipated going into this just 12 months ago making that first video :) But carefull what you wish for, the topics might get mighty strange when I'm all out of "regular" topics ;) Thanks for taking the time to comment, I'll see you over on the Huddle-Up :)
Hey Andre, I just watched the whole video and loved it! But as a fellow videographer, I have to say - the sound caught my attention right from 10 seconds in. The audio is fantastic, but I couldn’t spot the microphone anywhere! 😄 It bugged me so much that I actually paused a few times and leaned in, trying to find it, but no luck. So now I’m curious, where did you hide the mic? Or are you using your iPhone mic?
Hi there and thanks for those kind words :) The audio is recorded on a Røde VideoMic Go II, placed on top of the phone using the cardboard cage I built in a previous video, and distance from me to camera/mic is around 3-4 feet, and using the Blackmagic Camera app to record with volume set at 100% and I think 6+ gain on the receiver. Then using a little eq and compressor on the channel and a limiter on the main channel and gain’ing with the compressor to get close to -14 lufs in davinci resolve on average :)
@@savagelovefilms It should also be said that the *whole* room is sort of full of cardboard, skateboard pads and other stuff absorbing a lot of frequencies and reverb, which helps with not capturing that dredded room sound :)
Hahahaha, yeah, true, I should really jump on the 50-wagon before that train leaves the station, or just keep doing things wrong and not do the 50-thing at all, or just find my own twist on it ;) Time will tell :)
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment :) and also, loving the triple combo of your video topics, with a fourth dash of a little coffee stuff, (which technically at a certain level falls under nerdstuff I guess ;)
Been in this space for 13 years plus , when I started out it was just men in sheds filming , we just made videos for the fun of it, accidentally I finally got monetised, and lost it it lol , I couldn’t keep the 4000 hours up , my channel is slowly dying I’m going to give it another go , ultimately some people do it for fun , some for money
Dude, loving the randomness of old stuff you dig up, such great finds :D I soooo wish I had a metal workshop and lathe ... Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :)
I have been doing youtube for almost 2 years now. I do 15 videos a week. And I hope one day to reach a 1000 subscribers but i don't think it will happen any time soon. fingers crossed. wish you luck.
@@DeluiseBookSeries4821 You’ll get there :) Of course, someone wise (Rita Mae Brown I think) once said: «Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.» So trying something new, not as in other than the reviews you are doing, but doing them in a different way, or switching up the way you title the videos, like focusing on 1 specific thing from a book for the title and thumb that might be of special interest to a reader, might yield different results, or highlight x amount of reasons why one should try book series Y, like «5 reasons why young sci-fi fans should read Isaac Asimov», nothing sensational or over the top, just highlight value in the titles and thumbs and topics of the vids :) Best of luck and fingers crossed :)
Thanks :) And thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :) More stuff coming soon, next I'm debunking the whole keywords-thing once and for all ... using *science* ;)
Thanks :) But hey! I just saw you posted a proper longform video now, a short one, but long form, and proper horizontal and all that! Dude, come on, we need more vibes like that :) Get in there, get some videos out, and in the next one: stare into the lens like you mean it :) If the punks could make music with three chords you can make videos, waiting for the next one to pop up in my subscriber feed indeed :)
And if the suit doesn't fit I'll just tighten it up with some gaffatape ;) Hopefully I'll be able to not turn 100% growth advisor and rather just sprinkle some findings and thoughts throughout my videos on other subjects as well, but some myths do need to be put down, so I'm doing one on keywords and why they are completely dead and no buts about it, and *then* it's back to the irregularly scheduled programming ;) Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated :)
I'm 2 yrs in at 550 subs. My subjects change and that's harmful to fast growth imo. Audio is so important. People's hearing is so bad now you gotta make loud videos, just keep from red lining the audio otherwise speakers can distort
Very true indeed, make it loud and proud, or at least as loud as the competition ;) Changing subjects *can* be bad, if the subjects aren't even *remotely* connected, but most of us are complex beings and sometimes it takes a little time to find the tribe and get the ball rolling, and sometimes that means trying new things related to the old things, and just mash it up into a big bowl and add some seasoning ;) Would love to see some videos where you share some thoughts on the stuff you are making, just connecting with the person behind the content, why you do what you do, that sort of stuff :) And thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, hopefully your tribe will find you in the near future and boost those subs :)
I say this with no disrespect at all, but I'm not sure I'm grasping the "unexpected victory" element of the premise of your video. The average time a creator takes to get monetized (1000 subs/4k watch hours) is anywhere from 15.5 months to 1.5 years, depending on the source. So you being ALMOST halfway there in 9 months, by that measure, puts you behind that average timeline. So how did you get not quite halfway to monetization in longer time than average by doing the wrong things? Well... precisely by doing the wrong things... Whats the mystery again? 😂
@@livinginoklahomacityofficial Aha :) Thing is, you are forgetting the important parts of the puzzle: the very random posting schedule: sometimes weeks or months between videos, the topics being all over the place, the production value and gear being low and «cheap» (phone), neglecting the description field, not doing any keyword-stuffing or hashtags of any sort of regularity, and a bunch of other stuff. Despite all of that I’m getting results similar to or even better than people doing all the «right» stuff on a regular basis, who have been pushing on for, in some cases, years. So if this trajectory continues and I do manage to monetize in, let’s say 18 months, it will have happened with way less focus on all the «right» things that *many* spend *lots* of time on, when they instead could have focused more on value and the essence of their content rather than a lot of stuff guru’s claim is important, and maybe stressed themselves out a lot less :) And add to that the unexpected victory of this specific video so far bringing in 170+ watch time hours and about 110 new subs, and it took 2 hours to shoot and edit …
@AndreSjoberg respectfully, I think you're actually missing the important part of what I'm saying. The AVERAGE time it takes a creator on YT to become monetized is 15 - 18 months. The average includes people who do things the right way AND the wrong way. So nothing about your results are unique or "unusual." To your point, if doing everything right, you'd likely be well ahead of the average curve. But considering you didn't, you're behind the average curve (and perhaps may end up IN the average curve like many others who did some wrong things). I appreciate the message (I think) you're trying to deliver - that creators shouldn't put too much stock in what YT educators/advisors are saying to do, and not stress out too much. I partially agree with this sentiment (so many people giving bad advice tbh), but at the same time I think you may unintentionally be helping confirm some creators opinion they can do things entirely their way and still find success, which I believe would lead to creators wasting a ton of time only to ultimately give up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your channel has gotten about half your subs from your top 3 videos, 2 of which are about what happened to be a trending topic at the time discussing the DJI mics - so unknowingly, the thing that actually made the biggest impact in subscribers and views came from doing precisely the right thing. Without looking at your analytics, I'd guess those 3 videos are likely responsible for around 250 of your subs and likely similar to watch hours. This video is taking off (congrats btw) because lots of creators would like some confirmation to their bias that they can simply do as they wish creatively and ignore these educators - and your video gives them (potentially) false hope that they can succeed too, regardless of strategy.
@livinginoklahomacityofficial You are forgetting about my final point in the video, the value part, which is the whole point of the argument I’m making: Despite not spending hours and hours on production, gear, descriptions, shooting and editing thumbnails, +++ those videos, including the ones on trending topics, provided value above anything else. Especially the dji mic 2 video, the first one highlighting shortcomings in the product, proved value above and beyond what most others put out there, and that’s why it was successful (based on the comments people left). If I had made a crappy «the dji mic 2 is great»-video with no added value compared to other videos out there at the time my guess is it wouldn’t have done great, I can of course not prove that, but in general the «it’s great» videos I’ve seen from smaller channels my size does not have great numbers. And of course the title and statement in the thumb is a bit hyperbole, but in essence it’s true - you can do youtube mostly wrong and still succeed, if you at least offer value slightly above the average through the videos you make. There are tons of videos out there trying to «ride the wave» of whatever is currently trending, like the recent «above 40» and «above 50» trend, not getting the big numbers even though their production in many cases are «better» than mine, doing all the right things except for adding value to the conversation, which is why that last bit is the important point in my video :)
Hehehehe, the mirror is such a hacky way, but it works :D I did just get my hands on a used iphone 11 pro now, which *can* run the blackmagic camera app, which my old iphone X couldn't, so now I'm experimenting using the BM app on the iphone 11 to control the BM app on my 15 pro max and it is *awesome*, not only do I have an image to check framing, but full control of the camera app on the 15 pro max, making things *so* much easier - *and* I'll be able to test multicam-recordings of some of my projects, which should be fun to try to edit :) Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated :)
@@WallaceLivingFree Aaaah, yeah, not sure if the BM app even works for that, but I'm still using the mirror from time to time, and it never runs out of battery which is a plus :)
Hahahaha :) Yeah, that’s my Quad Skate store, going on 12 years now since Roller Derby started up in Norway - and the only store in the country as well so travelling with the shop as well on a regular basis :) You playing?
@ Aaaaah, sweet :) I lived in NY for 4 months back in the late 90’s and vacationed there for 3 weeks back in 2014 catching a couple of Gotham Derby internal league tournaments and visiting 5 stride shooting the shit with bonnie thunders and omg wtf, good times :)
You sound just like me and my approach. It's far more honest IMO. What's wrong with being yourself? There is a number of YTers who over a long enough time have got huge following being that way, albeit with a niche.
Oufh, sorry to hear that, but hey, looking at your channel, you only have a handfull of long form videos and those have a decent amount of views indeed for such a small channel, and you're almost at a hundred now - just keep on having fun with the camera and try different topics and types of videos and things will start growing even more :D
sweet, happy to hear that :) Now you just have to keep on cranking out those videos to get that watchtime up, hopefully boosting them watchtime hours as well :) It looks like you've sort of landed on a path with your latest videos - and loving how the msm paints video has 45k views, that's sooo funny :D
Those UA-cam Gurus only wanna sell their programs, nothing else. As long as people can talk to the camera and show whatever in an interesting way, make people stay and watch the videos without falling asleep immidiately, you will always find an audience over time, no matter if you have a specific niche or not. Of course consistency helps. Like 1 video a week. Gaining watchtime by gear videos is one thing, but nobody subscribes when i for example been searching for a specific microphone and watch that video but nothing else on the channel is about that stuff, why should someone subscribe? Take scripted reality TV shows as an example. They work totally fine all over the world, because of the people and not because of one topic, they can do anything. It's pure sympathy. That's where most people are subscribing on channels that have no specific niche. When listening to random topics becomes a weekly routine like talking/ listening to a friend. UA-cam is recently pushing more small UA-camrs in the recommendations, that's it. Only thing you have to do is getting peoples attention with your thumbnail and make them click, then stay. Sounds easier than it is but imo it has never been that easy in the past 10 years as it's now.
That is very true, it probably haven’t been easier, at the same time there haven’t been this many people trying to create content so the «competition» is fierce - Hopefully the good stuff will prevail :) As for reasons to subscribe, just looking at my own habits, sometimes I subscribe because I like the vibe, even though *all* their content isn’t the same or even the same topic or broader. People are different and subscribe for different reasons - as for «the only thing you have to do is get people to click and watch …» well, yeah, but that’s a *big* the only thing ;)
@@AndreSjoberg Nobody said it's easy, but it helps a lot understanding the theory. I've been watching so much UA-cam in the past 15 years, I think it's also my time to finally start, because I really like the changes they made in the past year. I just wished my biggest problem wouldn't be feeling comfortable in front of a camera lol.
@@CaraKönigsblau Hahahaha :) The «in front of camera thing» took a couple of tries, it helped to just record, and then delete without even watching it, and then just diving into a project like the DIY keylight and just not care. The thing I’ve realized since I got on youtube back in january 2007 is basically that there is no difference between a video on youtube and basic advertising principles, especially ads from «the golden era» with the original volkswagen beetle ads and the title/image combo they used back in the day to either enhance each other or play on disruption between heading and image - same s**t, same wrapping, only different content - and writing ad copy is the same as writing intro’s to videos, hook’em and lead them through :) Might do a video on the similarities of those two, since there is a lot to learn from old ads :)
My channel is sort of dormant at moment, I'm a musician, and I'm going to use it just to post my work to share with friends and also available to anyone, I'm not too interested in monetisation or growing and maintaining a huge fanbase, I'm an ok musician but only beginning sound design and learning production.

Pretty inspiring message! Fellow Gen X here for those that relate! I found your channel thru YT recommendation. Am a small channel tryna find that groove.
Hahahahaha, that's one of the best comments I've seen in a looong time :)
And no insults takten :D
My accent is most likely a result of learning, and speaking english from an early age through a *lot* of movies, skateboardmovies, graffitimovies, all of that, combined with having worked in New York and Dallas for several months, having worked with *a lot* of foreign people in different jobs speaking english on a daily basis but with many influences, having friends in the south of the US around Mississippi / New Orleans as well as spending some time there and in Chicago and what not.
Combine that with my current "job" running my quad skate shop in Norway with a customer base where 50% don't speak norwegian - basically lots of different influences, which from what I remember the Midwest American accent is also a result of, in terms of european immigrants way back in the day + being in the middle of the east and west as well?
You should hear my accent after vacationing in New York for a couple of weeks, and then hear it after staying in the south for a couple of weeks ... I'm a sponge and I almost sound like two different people ;
Thanks for taking the time to comment and making my day, much appreciated :)
@@AndreSjoberg That's awesome! I've heard some Swedes on UA-cam whose accents sound a bit American, but I think this is first time I've heard a Norweigen on UA-cam.

@AndreSjoberg Thank you 😊
That was interesting...not even sure how your video came up..lol Interesting hearing people's stories of what happened for them on UA-cam.
Now that's a lot of truth in one comment, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :) Very aware of the only last 12 months count, which is why I've been focusing on outputting slightly more videos now, my channel didn't really get any views (or I didn't really post any "proper" videos) until march this year, except for 2 in october last year that no longer counts, so I have until febuary to "get some more momentum" :)
- but I have *so much stuff* filmed right now, just need to dig down through christmas to edit it all, and there should be plenty of stuff for the coming months :) As for "niches", yeah, I look at creating stuff and making shit happen as my niche and take it from there, hopefully providing enough entertainment along the way for people who might not necessarily fall directly into that category to find it interesting nontheless and take it from there, and then we'll see where that takes us ;)
Great video! I appreciate your time, thank you for sharing this insight. Your doing great with your channel , congratulations on your growth 👍I love having a UA-cam channel...kinda 🤦♀️😂

Hahahahaha, loving your channel handle :D
And yes, it's been 9 months for those first 2000 - but at the same time, looking at my "less than consistent" output getting close to 2000 in 9 months is "a miracle" in my case ;)
Which is kind of the point of the video:
Even if you feel you don't have time to do things every week, or every other week: don't stop.
and looking at what happened with that video suddenly I jumped from less than 500 to above 600 subs, and the watchtime soared from people not only checking that video out, but watching others as well - so even though I "just" have a month and a half left of the year, and 2 more months until my first "proper" video was released, the accumulated increase in views now for each video means that the amount of months it took me to get here is not equal to the time it might take me to get the double of that (which is sort of part of this experiement, seeing how the rate changes as the subs increase over time :)
@@AndreSjobergI agree! Great engagement! You’ve resonated with many and are very comfortable on camera, I’m sure you will get there!

Hahahahahaha, sounds about right for a wrong video being right indeed :)

Congrats 🎊🎈🍾
inspirational for sure, thx
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, hopefully there will be more inspiration to get from the upcoming videos :)

@@thesource479 The tribe is growing :)
@ what’s your tribe called?!
I just posted a Community Post of many of the tribes I have been rallying with.
You are now a UA-cam Growth Advisor. If the suit fits, wear it.
Just subscribed friend.
Thanks :) Both for watching and sub'ing, much appreciated :) And more stuff coming soon :)
New to UA-cam and new sub here
I'm 2 yrs in at 550 subs.
@@AndreSjobergthank you, I will consider this
I am doing everything in youtube wrong as well 🤣🤣
Welcome to the crew, sometime soon we'll take over the world! And thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated :)

Hahaha, thanks for watching and commenting, embracing the changes indeed :)
There are tons of videos out there trying to «ride the wave» of whatever is currently trending, like the recent «above 40» and «above 50» trend, not getting the big numbers even though their production in many cases are «better» than mine, doing all the right things except for adding value to the conversation, which is why that last bit is the important point in my video :)
yea mate, ive used the small mirror,
Hehehehe, the mirror is such a hacky way, but it works :D I did just get my hands on a used iphone 11 pro now, which *can* run the blackmagic camera app, which my old iphone X couldn't, so now I'm experimenting using the BM app on the iphone 11 to control the BM app on my 15 pro max and it is *awesome*, not only do I have an image to check framing, but full control of the camera app on the 15 pro max, making things *so* much easier - *and* I'll be able to test multicam-recordings of some of my projects, which should be fun to try to edit :) Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated :)
@@AndreSjoberg Cheers , Mine is a Samsung 10, only one lenze on the front, but its ok.. CYA mate
@@WallaceLivingFree Aaaah, yeah, not sure if the BM app even works for that, but I'm still using the mirror from time to time, and it never runs out of battery which is a plus :)

@ And thank you for the nice comment about the vids, more weird stuff coming soon as I get more time during the christmas break :)
@@AndreSjoberg woot!
You sound just like me and my approach. It's far more honest IMO. What's wrong with being yourself? There is a number of YTers who over a long enough time have got huge following being that way, albeit with a niche.
i can relate all what it says in this video :(
Oufh, sorry to hear that, but hey, looking at your channel, you only have a handfull of long form videos and those have a decent amount of views indeed for such a small channel, and you're almost at a hundred now - just keep on having fun with the camera and try different topics and types of videos and things will start growing even more :D
woah, I'm not even close to my watch time, but my subs have shot up
sweet, happy to hear that :) Now you just have to keep on cranking out those videos to get that watchtime up, hopefully boosting them watchtime hours as well :) It looks like you've sort of landed on a path with your latest videos - and loving how the msm paints video has 45k views, that's sooo funny :D
nice work bruh
@@ScottHebertArt Thanks :) And thanks for watching :)
That is very true, it probably haven’t been easier, at the same time there haven’t been this many people trying to create content so the «competition» is fierce - Hopefully the good stuff will prevail :)
As for reasons to subscribe, just looking at my own habits, sometimes I subscribe because I like the vibe, even though *all* their content isn’t the same or even the same topic or broader.
@@AndreSjoberg Great thought, could be worth a video.
In the end it's just worrying too much for no reason, as you say, don't care.
lol me too!
@@mrjefftalks Heyhey and welcome to the gang :) No better combo than 500 subs and turning 50 :)
