I've been wanting a comparison video for decades on these amps! Great stuff. Big props for tuning way low too! I have a newer Whiteface nmv, its absolutely earth shattering. The main takeaway for me with my nmv amp is gain, and natural compression of the amp itself as well as how it takes dirt pedals really shines when the volume is past about 1 o clock and at that point the volume is a bad time for a lot of people. I wonder if Hayden and Jeff at matamp would be able to weigh in on the component and tonal differences mainly of the green and newer nmvs.
I have the Non MV and have been waiting for something like this! I feel like I always leave you comments asking about attenuators haha! Every setting seems to have a profound impact but I always feel like I'm arbitrarily dialing it in. But I do love getting it beefy! It's nice to see how it compares! One thing I've never done is run a bass through this head and I really want to give it a shot. The bass boost is really wild, especially when you turn up the eq. The fact that it clicks into place is so ominous to me haha!
@@DoesItDoom Would love to see a video on this amp with bass. I'm tempted to get one but as it stands I'm using a good bit of my 200W (tube) head to keep up with my bandmates' two amps.
Non-master heads always seem to sound better, but most non-master amps seem to be engineered so that the 'sweet spot' is around 6 on the volume, and you have to have a situation where you can use that volume. That leaves out a lot of players! Killer comparison.
Amazing comparison !!!! A video using this amp and a FFT like voxengo Span, to analyse the frequencies for the controls would be sick and something no one had done yet
I set up my MV way different. I never turn my volume up past like 2. The drive I turn it up to get a dirty clean. If I turn my volume up too high my Rockerverb won’t keep up. Plus most of the venues we play have a decibel restriction. Some allow us to be louder, but we keep our stage volume around 102 db.
I’m at a point in my life where I can finally afford my dream gear from my childhood. I’m gonna have to watch this over and over to decide between the master and non master versions. They’re the same price on the factory website.
Hey Steve, im almost ready to pull the trigger on a gt120mv, but now im conflicted since the nmv sounds so good. I dont always play super loud, can the nmv amp do low volume with pedals?
The NMV is a very loud amp. It doesn’t do low volume hardly at all. Better sounding amp than the MV though imo. If you need low volume get the MV, otherwise you’ll need an attenuator.
@@DaleMcKenna it's very late, a month late now actually. But I plan on basically using it as a big fuzz pedal, using the effects loop to run it into my main bass amp to boost the low end and headroom
Give me the 90s version all day 🤘 The master had an almost "muffled" sound to me at times. Like it was trying to be too "clean?" That old one has that nasty, dirty grit 🙌
@@DoesItDoom I think I like how the non mv seems less compressed, and the headroom makes such a big difference too. The darker more powerful sound is more prominent.
Christ, Steve! Our Judas sounds M A S S I V E through the 90s!
Thank you for using it in this video!
For sure! Such a killer pedal.
Thanks for the shoutouts! Love that non master volume power in the room. Just eats pedals!
Thanks for working out a deal to get me this amp! I fucken love it.
Hahaha
I see this guy reviewing the original Sleep matamps
Proceed.
Hank 3 has those, ask him for a review 😂
Hell yeah man thank you. Been loving the channel since I found it
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching.

Thanks, man. Have always been curious myself. Pretty cool to compare them side-by-side.

Hopefully it was helpful! I gotta try bass through it as well.
Is the non mv hard to work with pedals at lower volumes?

I'm glad you used the life pedal! I always had that in my mind of how a ratt would be into Gt120.
Killer combo. Checkout most of the early Windhand recordings up to about 2014. Rat > 70’s GT120 NMV

Killer demo man! Thanks
Thanks for watching. Hope it was helpful.
Thank you for doing this I’ve been comparing the two for forever trying to decide which is better suited for me. Non master takes the cake hands down.
Sure! I feel like many of us have been curious as to how they compared forever. The NMV would be my choice as long as volume isn’t a major concern.
Amazing comparison !!!! A video using this amp and a FFT like voxengo Span, to analyse the frequencies for the controls would be sick and something no one had done yet
Thanks. That actually crossed my mind also.
That would be a nice in depth analysis of those gems! 🙏🏾

I got a new non master gt120 and would definitely recommend. I have lost hearing though….
They are so loud lol.

Tough choice. I prefer the NMV for pure tone but it doesn’t do low volume at all.
The Universal Audio OX Reactive Amp Attenuator while expensive is rated for 150 Watts so you'll be able to cut the volume down

Loving that shirt brother. Did you ever do a play through of slomatics? Would love to see it if you did. If not...do it up! Lol

Sorry for my ignorance, but why is one of them called "master volume"? They have exactly the same controls
Anybody know much about the minimat? Any good
Woodrite ever think about making a sick sweet "doom" bass guitar??
Coming this year is the plan.

Would be nice to hear on bass
I know al cisneros used them in sleep and Om
Al cisenaros used matamps from the very beginning of sleep not just dopesmoker like Matt pike
What model of woodrite do you got there?
Warlord in Grimmburst black satin finish.

@@haiderman1610I would consider it much less compressed for sure. I always found it odd that the GT120MV had such little headroom overall.
