I rewatch this video constantly just to listen to how good this sounds, something about this video is recorded super well and the sound is just amazing.
@MrUnderhilll I just received my gt120 and it took almost 4 months. They are busy and Hayden had surgery earlier this year which put them behind in production.
Great review. I have a 2014 mk1 version of the GT1 and you really do the amp justice with this video. One thing to add is that you really feel the amp in your gut when you play at a decent volume. There's so much low end available it's epic.
I got the gt1 in part b/c of this video maybe two years ago, am a dual dark owner, and yes very happy with it. It does the thing you hear in this and the cleans absolute destroy the dual darks. It nods in the direction of a modern, tighter sound when you're in master volume mode, but it's just not a high gain amp. It's just a different channel and the gain doesn't have that character. I tend to live in master volume and throw fuzz pedals at it. Also it's really, really loud and it doesn't play quiet at all, even with all the power switching controls. @@archery171093
It's nice to know other guitarist out there know how to use the EQ of a amp to get the tones there looking for instead of gripping about how the amp is too muddy or lacking mids.
Hi, thank you for that mega sounding review!! Existing reviews are too rare and too olds. So good to see the GT1 again on YT!! Glad you propose us to ask some questions. I always wanted to try a GT1, but as I'm more of a speed rock guitarist, I'm happy to play a Matamp that is more Marshallish. Your review has proven to me that the GT1 can easily be set to fit my needs too. Here is my question: what about the dynamic when you crank the gain? Could I go from a light crunch to a fat overdrive just with pick attack variation, or even get close to a clean when turning the guitar volume down?
FendCore It definitely can get “quick” at certain settings. On the gain channel it’s a little too aggressive to be considered a “responsive” amp. On the “non-master” mode it is very responsive. The second section of quiet clean tones I did was with the neck pickup on 1.5 and you can see the gain is around 11 o’clock... That’s a lot of volume and it t still cleans up.
That amp sounds awesome! Thank you for the great video! I before was considering the GT120, But this amp sounds great! Like you said, almost two amps in one!
the non master mode takes pedals a bit better than the master mode, but the vol/gain has to be around 3/4 forsure. still extremely versatile. you have that vintage single channel thing but also just a monstrously thick firebreather on the master volume. just a great amp. especially with the power scaling, the dynamics change alot with the 50 watt setting
Ive seen this video maybe 20 times, probably the best GT1 video out there. This sounds so clear and just so nice, so maybe you're the right guy for this question (I apologize in advance.) For years, I've been a bedroom player playing some no-name Chinese 2x12 cab, paired with an Orange CR120. Shit sounded studio quality crystal clear, especially with drive pedals (rat, dunwich, life pedal etc.) I finally decided to buy my first "real cabs" to hopefully build a nice rig for some musical projects! I bought a Matamp 2x12 (Celestion G12T hot 100s, ) and an electric 2x12 (eminence tonkers) - quality shit. however through my CR120, the cabs sound as if they're in another room, especially with any drive on. that studio clarity I had (and like this video) just disappear and it's a major bummer. My initial thoughts are the amp - maybe its time to finally get a nice tube rig going. my question is this - do you think that'll make any difference ? I bought an sold a V30 2x12 prior because of the same issue, but now I'm thinking theres no way its a cab thing if the same thing has happened 3 times. I'm sorry you had to read all of this, I think I'm just starting to lose it lol
Thank you for the kind words. Speakers definitely have the biggest impact on tone. The geometry and construction of the cab also plays a role in what you are hearing. For example, Orange cabs are much more bass heavy and focused compared to a Marshall cab. It sounds like your original cab would have been very bright. Now that you have a Matamp 2x12 (very close to Orange PPC212) with more low end and different speakers it sounds darker in your room. The Matamp cab is going to be much more focused…. Meaning that your head has to be directly in front of the speakers to hear the high end. I don’t think a tube amp is going to make your cab sound brighter. It will most likely be comparable to your CR120. I would first find out how it sounds with a mic. Room sound vs mic sound is very different. If you still don’t like the tone after recording it then you might want to test different speakers. There is a Weber Tone CVLT speaker video on our channel. Good luck!
@@frayleband no, thank you for taking the time to respond to me, with what I realize is probably a boneheaded question. I think my next step is to mess with some EQ, (pedal, amp settings etc) and just see what I can do Thank you again homie I appreciate it, and I’ll definitely check out that speaker video
Hi, I am trying to decide between a Matamp GT120 MV, Or the GT1 that your demo was using. Any recommendations you have versus one over the other? And will the GT1 be as Fuzzy sounding as the 120 MV?
Dirty Demos I use Wall of Sound. I’ve spent over a year narrowing down the settings that work best for me. As of today (haha) I’m in the Arcade mode with a Ruby 4x12 and their new red Mesa 4x12. Unfortunately their Orange cabs don’t sound good to me.
Great demo, man! I'm currently waiting on a Sunn Model T to be made for me by a company here in the UK called Stoneham Amplification. But, I want a Matamp to go with it for stereo use, I'm sold on the GT120, but man... This GT1 is a beast.
I found this to be really insightful for tracking down tones! Thx a lot!!! I was also wondering if you could demo the TH200. Can you get similar sounds out of it? I found Channel 1 on it to be a bit thin for doom/stoner territory whereas the 2nd channel's shape knob is not really practical. I can't get the sound out of it I like because there's not full EQ with bass, treble and mainly mids. To me a mids knob is essential. What do you do to overcome this problem? Just use the white witch/modded Rat with the extra mids? What is more, would I have the same problem on a Matamp GT120MV, because there's no mids knob either?
Do this work for bass players through a good bass cab? Got an GT2, and are waiting for a cab, just wondering what you think about that? Tried it through an 810, and had the voicing all the way left, and it worked great there and then.
Ralph Lemon it doesn’t work like a normal loop. I don’t know the technical reason why (someone else please chime in) but it’s like a dirty “half loop”.
Frayle Band I believe it’s a passive effects loop and just not tube driven. I’d say it’s personal preference. I just picked up a 2017 gt1 a few days ago and I’m totally digging the way the send/return sounds through the modulation section of my board. I hooked it up stereo last night with my dual dark 100 and used a volante and hard panned the heads left and right. Sounded fucking incredible. Awesome video thanks!
Hey man, did you have Matamp modify the circuit at all? I loved the tone in this video so much that I bought a GT1, but my amp sounds nothing like yours even with all the knobs set exactly the same. When it’s in non master mode and I turn it up to 3 o’ clock the tone is similar to when you have yours set to 11 o’ clock. Really disappointed with the amount of gain on this amp.
I rewatch this video constantly just to listen to how good this sounds, something about this video is recorded super well and the sound is just amazing.
Love how excited you are about the sound. I come here over and over just to listen to that amazing vibe

Wow man, i really wanted to see how this amp sounded with good quality audio. Sounds huge, thanks.

What kind of cabsim are you running? Or are you using an IR? I'm struggling to find a cabinet sound for doing stuff with my Captor X.

I'd honestly go with the GT1 instead. The GT120's occupy the same "low-low" frequencies that Model T's do. The GT1 would pan MUCH better

Where's the best place to order a matamp in the US? Looks like there's a UK site and a us spin off.... a link would be killer! Thanks for the video
You have to order them from the UK site. Prices include shipping 💀🔮
Great video! How loud can it stay relatively clean if you want to use a lot of pedals for gain structure ?
If I could play I feel like I would be on the brink of total price of mind

Awesome video and love Orange and Green amps... Are those stock V30's in the Orange cab?
Not sure if this has been asked or answered, but is that a factory ppc412?
How long was the lead time on your order from matamp? Heard so many horror stories over the years it’s kept me from pulling the trigger.
great video brother
You got any demos of that orange thunderverb?
If I could invent a heavy guitar sound, that would be it.
Green is what Orange wishes it were
Forgive me if I’m missing something but I see a send and return on the front of the amp. Is that not an effects loop?

Pickups maybe? He's playing lace dragonauts
It might be my pickups? The amp has not been modded. Also 50 watts (bottom jack) breaks up way sooner than 100 watts (top jack).
Wait, so 7:46 is just the amp with no pedals? Just in Master mode? :0
Is this the highest gain amp matamp makes?
you said you would rather get one with an fx loop... so what is that on the front, then?
Its a passive effect loop. You can use it with old echo units and stuff. For modern pedal applications it is basically useless.
