Hi guys this really happened between British and German troops on Christmas 1914 and is remembered as the 1914 Christmas truce. My great uncle was there and took part I am afraid that he and most of his friends were killed at the battle of loos 1915. We are so proud of him and have his letter home telling the family all what happened during the truce and how it was started again by officers who wanted no truce or contact with the enemy.

The first few seconds get me. Both sides are singing the same Christmas Carol, just in different languages. Sainsbury's created and sold reproductions of the chocolate bar. All the profits went to The Royal British Legion; a charity who helps members of the British armed forces, veterans and their families.
Merry Christmas and Happy, Peaceful New Year to You Both, Your Families and Friends. 🎅🎉 ☮

Hi guys, I just like to say it isn't the people at war it is the government, and the people are just doing their job for the government, which we are just puppets for them as they hide a faraway as possible. Lovely reaction thanks guys and I hope you have a good Christmas

If you want to know a little more, there is also the movie Merry Christmas also known as Joyeux Noël from 2005. Or I also recommend the song by Sabaton - Christmas Truce.

    Private John Condon
For much of the last 100 years it was assumed that Private John Condon from Waterford city was the youngest British soldier to die in the first World War and therefore the youngest Irish fatality of the war. His grave in Poelcapelle Cemetery outside Ypres in Belgium is one of the most popular on the Western Front.god bless them all. They give their today so we could have our tomorrow I enjoy watching your videos I like your sense of humour keep up the hard work and may God bless you and your family 🙏

WW1, a war for no reason other than slaughter.
All wars are heartbreakenly sad, but this one particularly so.
War is the failure of politicians & diplomats to properly do their jobs.
I am glad this moment is kept alive to remind us.

Great reaction ladies. My name is Aaron and as you can see from my avatar photo, I am a former member of the British military. I was a Royal Marine Commando from 1997 to 2008. I was blown up in a roadside IED (Improvised Explosive Device) in Afghanistan in 2007 and unfortunately lost both of my legs. Despite that, I am so grateful that I'm alive still.
Not long after this I fell in with an organisation called Veterans For Peace, which consists of veterans from around the world who speak out against war, we try and prevent arms sales, we protest against war, and some of the best friends I've made are guys from Iraq and elsewhere who feel the same as I do; we don't want to kill each other, it's not in our nature.....it's only in the nature of the rich capitalists who rule over us.
Hope you're having a great Christmas ladies, and all the best for the new year.

I don‘t really know what to say. But I just feel I want to say something. What has happened to you shows what war truly is. And that there is nothing to be „won“ really. Here‘s to hoping 2025 will see an end to current wars. And may it be a good year for you. all the best from Hamburg, Germany.

hi ladies, all the very best for the new year to you both
i wanted to touch on something you both know, but maybe dont know and it has to do with the poppy, At the end of this advert, you saw the logo and in connection with the royal british legion
This is a wonderful organisation to help veterans, of any war, whether you served 1 days in uniform or 20 years
I served back in the late 80's 90's as a medic in the army, couple years ago i went through a bad time, mental health, finiacial issues, i had been to see my doctor, he saw that i had served,
within a week the british legion was in contact, took my details, got my army papers, and help me through a bad time, with advice, financial help, talking to my landlord, and some other creditors, they got it all sorted, im good, health good, finiances back on track. im 60 years old, so every poppy bought, helps a veteran in need.
it was 40 years ago i served, i was not forgoton,

It was a very different time. Chivalry and good manners were important on and off the battlefield.
There are many heroic stories from the era, where enemies sometimes even helped each other get back to their own lines, risking that they would be captured.
It was a time when one simply did not shoot a man in the back, because only a coward would do such a thing. Shooting unarmed combatants or a pilot hanging from a parachute was seen as disgusting and your own men would despise you.
Soldiers were soldiers doing a job. Both sides knew what each other were going through because it was exactly the same.
They were there to kill each other but there was a level of respect we don't see today.

Lots of British and German Xmas traditions (carols etc.) are the same because of the British Royal family's German ancestry? Before WW1 Britain's traditional enemy would have been France and the Germans were more like our cousins. This was the first Xmas of the war, before they'd learned to hate eachother. Both sides shelled the men with artillary to force them back into their trenches ☹
