I was fitted just before lockdown for the Forged Tec and for me they feel quite soft and gave me great club head speed too. I tried the 7 iron on the course first, which I think is important, so think they will help my game progress. Hoping they will be available next week when we go back into tier 3, as seems ages since I was fitted. Great video Mike, thanks for the comparison, think I have chosen the right irons for me given your findings. Keep up the good work!
I have them in one length and they are very forgiving on thin strikes and I personally like the way they sound. And good strikes feel good so you do get some feedback too.
Numbers-wise, they almost look like the 7 iron (33 degrees) and 6 iron (29.5 degrees) from the same set. From a spin perspective, loft adjusted, I would say that the TEC actually looks like the 'better' iron at 5160 spin. In a traditional bladed set with a 35-degree 7 iron, 31-degree 6 iron & 27-degree 5 iron, the TEC spin #s look spot on whereas the 5780 spin is a bit low for the Tour. You could also easily blend them Tour (PW-6) and TEC (6&5) if the TEC long irons give higher peak height #s
I gave my son my forged tecs for high school competition and my wife just ordered me a new set of the cobra mim. Hopefully in a week we'll be doing a comparison
Never tried the irons though I'd like your swing, Mike. My preference would be the tour iron with the more traditional loft. Just need to find a Cobra club fitter close to where I live. Great video as always.
thanks Mike, so 10 yards difference so to hit 190yards with the King MIM you would need to hit 6 iron with properly the same amount of spin and height as the forged Tec! Interesting?
Interesting review. Almost 4 degrees difference gives you 10 yards difference which would be expected. 600 difference in spin and better dispersion (marginally) with the tour iron. But we're seeing almost the same height and descent angle which I believe these companies are striving for model to model when they set the lofts
I watched at 333 views, half of 666! Exactly the video I wanted to see. I'm playing cobra cb/mb flow set but love the look of the tour but want to have a go with one length forged tec. Choices choices.
Hey Mike. Could you see someone using a combo set with these two irons (9-7 with the Tours and 6-4 with the Forge Tech) or are the loft differences too big causing too much of a gap?
I know this is 2 years old but I game the Cobra Forged Tec Black with some King Tour mixed in. My question is I replaced my Forged Tec 7 iron with the King Tour 6 iron both clubs are 29 30 degree's so in this comparison why didn't you used the MIM 6 iron?
@@l1ttleguy1 Forgiveness not really, I'm a decent ball striker with the irons, the difference is the feel and pop, the MIM feel a lot softer and the ball flies off them, I'd say the MIM go further maybe 5 to 10 yards.
Thanks for the response. I’m going to get one of the two sets shortly. Thinking I might like the tours better as long as they aren’t brutally unforgiving.
Before watching the part on the data my expectations were that the forged tec 7i would perform like a Tour 6i so I would expect to see 10-12 yards difference in the carry and 600-800 rpm difference with broadly similar peak height and a slightly shallower descent angle for the Forged Tec. Now that I have seen the data, it is pretty much exactly as predicted. That means these two irons should work really well in a blended set. On looks, I dislike the Cobra house iron look - it is just too "shouty" with seemingly every square inch of the back of the club defaced with some brand message. IMO the look would be massively improved by removing all the words off the back of the club with the exception of "Forged tec" on the Forged Tec iron and "Tour" on the Tour iron.
Hi Michael, i looking at getting the cobra MIM irons as my last 3 sets have been cobra, my question is, ive been playing golf for 30 years and my handicap is +1 , ive never been fitted, always just bought of the shelf, do you think it would be worth getting fitted?, my concern would be that my golf went downhill
Mike, I don’t get what’s the big deal about distance with irons. Most normal golfers have a club in the bag that will cover from between 80m to 190m. The only area where distance & irons come in to play is with the long irons and really how many normal golfers play a long irons these days;it’s a driving iron or more than likely hybrid/5 wood etc. let’s be real here also, most normal golfers from 190/200 out are rarely hitting greens anyway so may be better laying up to a consistent number with a consistent club and would probably score better. Forgiveness and consistency should be more of a premium than distance if you want to improve at golf. If I hit 5 lots of 6 irons from 180 and get 4 of them pin high & my mate hits 5 lots of 8 irons short, long, left & right, who clubs are better? My consistent clubs or his because 1 out of 5 of his 8 iron shots happened to get somewhere near the pin even though I hit 6 iron and he hit 8 iron. Distance only matters off the tee, every other shot is about hitting a number and the more consistently you can hit that number with your given tools (irons) the better your game will be. Let’s talk distance with driver and consistents with every other club in the bag
You are not "gaining" distance with the forged tec. You just have different numbers stamped on the head. Sheesh! So if you have a 180yd shot into a green you'd hit the 7 iron Tour, or the 8 iron Tec. The main point being you'd have to carry an extra wedge if you buy the Forged Tec to plug the gap it will leave you due to it's strong PW.
That problem arises with most game improvement irons. I settled for Cobra Radspeed and Speedzones. A half n half set. Dang 4 iron is 19 degrees... 7 iron is 27.5 degrees...Wedge 42.5 So yes....I have to get a GW now. My Palmer sandhog(1971 Standard) is 56 deg. The 5 iron in my 1971 Palmer Standard is 25 deg where as my Radpseed is 21 deg. Crazy! I'm getting old....so I bought these easy to play Cobras as I'm headed into my senior years. Most oversized game improvement irons lofts are stronger than the "norm" making the individual purchase an extra wedge for a complete set. Great sales plan.....😅
@@lkae4 are you missing the point on purpose? If I make a nine iron at 10° loft I'll gain distance, yes. But then I have to find extra wedges to fill the gap from 10° to 60°. But hey, I'll be able to hit my 9 iron further than you.

Stuck between Tour MIM and the Mizuno. This helped 👍

Why would that mim tour be a bigger jump for someone moving out of their improvement irons? Its a cavity back with more forgiveness than the forged.
Thanks
Just change the lofts on the king tours to make e'm stronger ?
Great video. The King!!

you could carry two 7 irons.....sounds weird but the gapping might be spot on

Wrong. You are gaining distance at the same shaft length and similar dispersion.
@@lkae4 shaft length perhaps, but the stronger the loft the wider your dispersion. You can't cheat physics. It always wins, lol.
