Mmmmmmm. I can taste it through the screen. Just picked up 10 lbs of fresh cut cow foot…. Just washed it, added some spices and home made green paste. Letting it sit overnight in fridge before I start cooking. Bringing a put half of it to a friends’ Sunday - they are carribean and get a huge kick that this Jewish boy from Pennsylvania can nail it. God bless the internet- and magnificent food!
I'm not from the Caribbean South Carolina is my birth place but I love the flavors of all ethnic foods,I made this today and OMG!!!!! Chris you are the BOMB
My wife is always very pleased when I surprise her with a bowl of cow heel soup after she had a hard day at the office . It keeps the fire burning in our marriage .Thanks man.
Just finished making this with 2 pounds of Cow Foot pretty much following this and adding in some Green Bananas, Eddoes with the Okra vs the White Potatoes. Added some Cloves and Bay Leaf for added flavor. Its nice and thick soup. Took 30 Mins in my brand new 8 Qt Pressure Cooker to cook the Cow Foot, plus another 20 mins or so uncovered to cook the added vegetables at the end and boil down the soup a bit thicker. Its Good Stuff! Cow Foot can be a bit bland, so for sure helps to add allot of flavor to the soup pot. Came out better than I thought and eating it right now.
This soup is a family favorite since I discovered your website. Making this today…60 degrees in Boston but my 78 year old father is requesting this soup lol.
In the Netherlands we use Cow heel in our Split pea soup; a typically Dutch wintersoup here for our so cold weathers. Thank you Chris for another great recipe with the cow heel but now , for me, as a SUNNY warmer seasons soup... Yummi, got to try this very soon...!
My mother in law made this for me as my birthday or Christmas gift for years😋 she's AMAZING!!!at 61 she remarried and now her husband makes it for the family it's just not the same 😒 Jamaican man you gotta stand down on this one let mom's do her thing in the cowfoot pot🤦🏽♀️😆

Chris...i love your cooking the soup was wicked...hate okra though...miffed at you bout the oildown still (lol) nuff love still! The chicken foot souse was really good! Blessings!
i use my Slow Cooker instead of the pressure cooker to first cook the cow foot with a lil salt and crush garlic then i transfer it to a soup pot and add the rest of ingredients and voilla .... soup is done and tasty
WOW, I am haitian and we have our own version of this soup that we call "bouyon" in haitian creole. The thing u did with the flour we call it "boy, donboy" if ure from the north of haiti and "donbrey" for the other places. And to make that soup we use beef and there are no peas in it.
I just had this for lunch. I made it last night in my slow cooker. I added some gorgeous beef marrow bones, it comes out delicious. In fact when I make this my neighbors come knocking on my door asking "whats cooking."
i tried it using your procedure. i didn't use the exact measurement except for 1 cup dhal. I the ochros and berries but I used fresh pimento instead. thanks so much
yes, the dumplings takes less than 5 minutes to fully cook. But I said the last 10 minutes, giving it enough time to cook and absorb the flavors of the soup.
Crist, where you get it that Jamaican put beans in cowfoot soup? I am a Jamaican and I have never seen beans in cowfoot soup. Cowfoot and beans is not a soup.
Guy From Trinidad although I have a pressure cooker, I tried it once in a slow cooker and it got the job done, the cow heel was really soft. Blessings from south Trinidad
wow! looks so amazing! i was worried i would just have to wing it for my first time cooking cow feet but buddy you sold me on it :D I am probably going to make a few changes like no okra (cant stand the stuff) and use more onion (because i cant get enough) but i never thought of using lentils. keep em comin bud I would love a new chicken foot recipe if you have a good one ;)
My first attempt at this turned out delicious but I hit a few potholes along the way.... it ended up b er ING more like a stew but boy was ot good... Trying it again next week...
I cooked 2lbs of cow foot and with the fire on low heat it took approx. 8 hours to have my food tender. everybody says it takes about 4 hours, which i don't understand, because at 4 hours my cow feet were hard as a rock, But I don't have a pressure cooker and never used one. what should i do?
I just saw a version of this soup on Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and googled it and found your video. Looks awesome, but I'm curious about these cow feet. Are there bones in there or is that cartilege that I saw? Also, do you season the cow feet at all before putting them in the pot? You didn't say so, but I thought that was pretty standard.
Couldn't you tell us this was the Trinidadian recipe for this I to figure that out myself? Looks good! I don't know if I have yellow split peas if I did I'll put it dat in
By the way, what about all the fat from the cowheel? I pressure the cowheel and put in the refrigerator overnight, then skim off the fat and then continue cooking the next day! No fat! Ugh...
I'm Jamaican and I feel like I low key like this recipe better than the Jamaican one. The only thing I would probably do is season the meat before putting it in the pot, and maybe add a cock soup mix as he suggested at the end there.
