"Next week on Cooking with Paul' ....really good , more please
Great stuff - love the trick with the rice and the thermos to save on gas. A real top tip😀👍
Brilliant video. I’ve just bought a Minimo and have a good collection of thermos flasks as well. Videos like this one could help a lot of people with the rising cost of living at the moment. Doesn’t have to be this combination, you could show people how to cook really cheap and fast on a “Normal camping stove” as well. Improvise, adapt, overcome 👍👍👍 😉
I don't normally make comments but this was a realy good recipe Paul
The only changes I made was to prep the veg before I started the hike
Saves space in the bag and easier when it is cold or wet (Scotland)
Instead of tomato puree
Used a sachet of tomato source
Great use for the thermos flask. I usually fill mine (on a camp) with 'special-brew' ice cubes with a dash of Jack Daniels. Everything I cook tastes great after I've emptied the flask.
Awesome Paul, I'm constantly correcting people who say jetboils are only good for boiling water, I've had most models of the jetboil and the minimo is the best, I've even cooked fresh popcorn in it with cinnamon oil.
I've cooked everything possible on my Soto (including boiling water) & it cost me £43.
You're seeking ways of justifying the £100+ price tags.
I can cook meat in my kettle, but it isn't designed for such tasks.
@@markatchison9974 I'm not trying to justify anything, I paid £40 for my minimo, it works well for cooking, the simmer control is excellent.
@@trooperwolfie Did you make your own cinnamon oil? Sounds delicious!
What a great tip for cooking rice.
Can you show us how to make a 16 inch pizza in a jet boil please! great video :)
Thanks Paul, keep those videos coming! I love cooking in the outdoors but I'm not great with coming up with ideas. I'm curious to see what you're gonna cook up next!
It’s great to see how different people approach meals to suit their needs and wants while in the outdoors.
Interesting take on this meal, looked bloody lush and it’s great to see more people embracing the ‘process’ when it comes to cooking in the outdoors.
Chorizo cooked in cider on some crusty bread A favourite a few years ago during lockdown hikes.
I don't even make meals that fancy at home. Great video Paul!
Yes!! I’ve been looking for a series that makes recipes for backpacking. I love backpacking but hate the freeze dried meals. Cooking something fresh is always worth the extra weight for me. Thank you!
Great idea for a video Paul, to be fair sometimes the ideas for cooking can be difficult for some. A satisfying meal like that after a days walk can really make a trip successful.
After a long wet hike a good meal is such a morale booster.
The tip saving fuel with the rice is so good to know. Also I am now very hungry 😉
we went camping over the weekend and we tried this...quick and easy to cook, delicious.
looks delicious😋
good idea with the rice in the thermo👍
That rice and flask tip is just epic!!
Why do I always watch cooking videos at 10pm? Now I'm starving but I'll have to wait until the morning.
I'll test that one out in the camper next week.
Great video Paul. Can we see some more Jetboil recipes.
Paul, I was so excited by the use of a food flask for cooking I went out this afternoon and bought one. This evening I cooked your Chorizo Jambalaya (substituted chicken for the smoked sausage as I was in the kitchen) and it was delicious - a previous comment said they don't eat that well at home! I agree! This has really opened up the world of one burner cooking for me and adds yet another layer to the pleasure of camping. Thank you!
Great content idea Paul! More of this please 🙌🏼
Thanks Paul I’m sitting watching you cooking as really made me want to come over and eat it with you looks nice.
Good trick with the rice. Will have to remember that one. 👍
How have I never tried doing this! This looks immense - could easily pre chop and cook when out
Really enjoyed that I like to see simple recipes. To make it even easier you can use the 2min microwave rice and add to the pan of meats and veg the same way as you added yours from the flask although I’m not sure if they would taste so good. Take care Gill
Just come across these videos! Absolutely fantastic just shows what can be done with a single burner and probably much cheaper than one of them £5-£6 dehydrated meals not to mention much nicer
Paul, the 'Hairy Hiker' cooking channel! Brilliant!
Great video Paul. I really enjoy discovering the kind of things other people cook. That jet boil made short work of the cooking and the food flask for the rice is a fantastic idea. All the best...Shane
Great, thanks so much for that. I've been wondering how to simplify what I cook camping -- and your sausages mix here is brilliant. I love the thermos idea and will get one for myself. Thanks Paul
I tend to go for couscous when camping- it doesn't need really need much cooking, and is easily stored in a bottle
I watch several camping video Channels and the Camp Kitchen is often my favorite part. Shows us all too, that if we lose the ability to cook inside the house, we can always rely on a few pieces of camping kit. Thanks for sharing.
That thermos trick is great!
Really like this Paul, thanks for the idea, much appreciated buddy.
I liked it that much, I just got the flask, looking forward to using it at the weekend Paul👍
Good recipe Paul, looks good and is easy to do.👍👍
Great idea with the thermos 👌🏻
Better than being a silly sausage and having a dehydrated meal every time. Seriously though a fabulous result just right out in the fresh air.
Great video you should do some videos on one pot meals
more of this!!! love it
Great vid Paul! I'm always looking for recipes that don't involve the usual camping food pouches!
Always love your tips Paul, game changer rice, nice one 👍
Greetings from Northern California. This recipe is brilliant and proper and whatever else you guys say over there but since I’m from NorCal I’ll say this recipe is hecka rad and I’m ampted to try it.
More cooking videos please loved this going to try this out looks so good
Fantastic video Paul the meal looks nice and delicious thanks Paul enjoyed watching your videos 👍
Really enjoyed this style video mate great work
Love cooking something different than dehydrated food at the campsite, nicely done! Can’t wait to use this. Cool find with the rice too
great idea for a format, not seen anyone else do this.
finally !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 a jetboil meal !
I've bought my first jetboil and we're going camping with friends. It's years since I didn't that (although I'm a keen day hiker) so I'm really looking forward to it. Thank you Paul for inspiring me
Fantastic Paul thanks for that and your cooking tips! Living in Hungary gives me a wealth of ideas and different foods and spicy sausages to try out! And the peppers here are a local tradition, so some good choices and camps for me in the future! Bon appetite, or as we say here in Hungary, Jó étvágyot! ⛺️🦉🍷👍😎
I’m thinking of investing in one of those vacuum sealers so I can prepare a meal at home, vacuum seal it, in a bag and then freeze. For those single overnight trips you can set off with the meal still frozen and then do a boil in the bag when you land at your camp. Great recipe Paul - Tnanks for sharing.
if you get some Nayar bags off Aliexpress, you can cook, heat seal (I use my vacuum sealer to do this), then freeze - that's what I do. when out camping, just heat the Nayar bag in water for about 7 mins, job done.
Be careful with vac sealing wet products, as they will wreck standard vac sealers, so a little tip, freeze first in a takeaway container, once frozen, then seal.
Brilliant content this Paul, off the cuff 💪🏼👊🏼
I actually really like this idea: "real food whilst camping". Ideas of quick and simple foods to cook whilst out. Also, you can pre-warm the flask which will help maintain a higher temperature 😉
Looking forward to the next installment.
Brilliant idea everyone has a flask lying about but iv never thought of that, I'll be stealing this idea 💡
Good idea with the rice will give that a go
Tried this at home paul thankyou i really enjoyed it
Nice job Paul. that's great camp cooking mate
That's pretty much the recipe I use for teaching students on DofE though I stopped using the fresh onion and replaced it with onion flakes because the fresh was stinking their bags out. Good food which ticks a lot of boxes and can easily made as a veggie dish, I call it 'Good Jollop'!
Eh! Zip lock bag, no stink, easy
This is defo the BBC good food recipe. I know because its one of my favourites and absolutely mint for camping trips as its all in one pot
Great tip for cooking rice. For more tasty recipe videos. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😃😄😋🫕🍛🏕️
Looks really good!
Great! Thank you!
Will give this a go, keep the video's coming 👌👍
I would love more camp cooking videos! FYI you could use a DIY cozi instead of the flask to save some weight! 👍
I have a cosy. It’s pretty good but the vacuum flask performs a lot better. Especially if I want to take fish or meat.
@@PaulMessner This particular flask that you show in this video (and some other videos) seems perfect for the demonstrated use case and the size/shape seems just right. However, a lot of reviews are negative regarding its ability to 'retain temperature', whether cold or hot items. I wonder whether this is your experience as well?
Or would you just recommend the new model?
Also, great video with useful tips.
Great video. Long time fan.
Could have sworn I could smell that cooking through the screen. Taking a trip to the new forest next week where there is a fire and bbq ban at the moment so this will defo be one of my meals. Thanks Paul
I love my jet boil. Can’t wait to try this out next time I go out in the field. Thanks for the great video!
Paul
If you press you garlic clove with the flat blade of your knife until the garlic starts to 'split' it's MUCH easier to peel
Best wishes
Bruce
Great idea with the thermos Paul....a meal like that whilst out in potentially inclement weather is a real moral booster....top one pal thanks!
looks good gonna have to try this one
Great, now I'm hungry!
Next time put in a can of baby shrimp at the end. That looks good. I love you idea of cooking the rice in the thermos great idea
Good video that Paul 👍 loads better than the dehydrated meals
Excellent video! Would love to see any more ideas for outdoor food & cooking you might have - perhaps some no-cook meals too for through-hikes, dehydrated hummus and pittas is a go to for me on longer trips.
nice trick with the rice Paul and it just goes to show the with a little imagination the jetboil is not just a kettle
Bloody good idea with he rice 👍👍
Nice work! When I cook rice in the wild, I use a sachet of Uncle Ben's. It's pre cooked and just needs warming. The recommended method is microwave but the pack says you can also just add a few spoonfuls of water and pan cook. Love your work.👍
I always love learning about how versatile a stove is. I am one to want to experiment with different meals, not just make a dehydrated meal. This was a fun video too! Looks tasty.
BRILLIANT
Great video. Love the rice trick, would never have thought of that. Keep the good content coming.
Paul this was brilliant. Going to try this next time out - love the thermos trick too. Would love more of these meal videos!!
Great vid idea! Love it
Wow!! This is awesome Paul! Ta
Find two clean rocks. One flat and able to fit comfortably in your palm, combine with a smaller stone. Backwoods mortar and pestle.
We need more from this kind of videos!
That was great! Camp cooking made easy...
Go for it Delia. Great video. Loved it. Thanks Paul
Nice video Paul, looked yummy !! That tree looks like what we call a mountain Ash ? In our part of the world !
Great tip with the rice Paul... I'll definitely try that 👍
Keep up the good work
Gary
I really like the cooking videos 😋
That looked great, wish I had the patience!
Great idea, loved the video. Reach out to anglers with this as well Paul, bankside cuisine is a very important subject to most!!
Nice. I cook when I back pack. I use the 1.5l jet boil pot. Sick of dehydration food currently
Looks so good would be tempted to add a little red chilli 👌
Awesome meal
Definitely one to try when out on the hills next 👍🏻🏕😎
Really enjoyed the vid. Great idea.. I’m going to give it a go🙂
Very enjoyable video. You always do such a great job showcasing different camp cookware and cooking styles! I personally love thermal cooking recipes. I've never tried the rice thermal cook but I've cooked Spaghetti noodles and also macaroni noodles before. For that I used a larger size thermos and left it overnight. Next morning it was done perfectly for reheating later at lunch or dinner time. Thermal cooking is easy and quite fun too.
I've only recently found your channel, quickly becoming a fan. P. S I'm hungry now
As a german: "Wurst ist immer gut"!👌😋
