I bet the times would have been even closer with the same brakes. You braked late (or not late, but didn't get the bite you were expecting) and were visibly slower through that one corner on the enduro. The brake probably sucked because the rotor was bedded to the patrol pads and then you swapped the wheel to a different caliper and pads on the Spesh.... probably got slightly better by the third run as the pads began to bed and form to the rotor.... which if that theory is correct, would align with the Specialized getting faster in subsequent runs.
Very interesting, looks exactly the same to me though given the tiny time differentials and the challenge with lining up frames exactly (due to camera position, camera angle, shutter speed, frame rate and bike position on trail at that exact frame where each laps starts and ends). In each lap there appears to be a point where one bike is behind and then catches up. Nice video, you look to be very consistent on whatever bike you are riding.
I like the Patrol! It is also better value for money than the Enduro...does the suspension of the Patrol have the same plushness as that on the Enduro? Waiting for the Spire comparison to the Enduro! Good job guys!
Which felt more comfortable? And what's your height and reaches of the bikes? I'm trying to sort some bike sizes out for myself. Love the comparison videos!
Felt a little more comfortable on the patrol. Just feels like a little more feedback and a little easier to maneuver. I’m 6 foot. Not sure about the reaches off the top of my head
Cracked my Enduro inside the head tube. Already got another frame built up and my s-works warranty frame is on the way. Specialized needs to get their shit together. So many people break their frames.
Yooooo, that looks so sick. 👌🏻 BTW, Jackson. Your cousin, suggested me this epic channel. I can’t stop watching! I subbed to you on 20 accounts I made 😏🤣😅
Great video- I’ve been on the enduro for a season and I’ve got a Patrol frameset on order. I’m curious if the patrol feels as “confident” in the steep and chunky runs as the enduro does? I love my enduro- but in my riding group most of us have been on specialized this year (enduros and sj evos) and while I’ve not broken my bike, we’ve seen 4 cracked frames. Makes me nervous. I’d also be curious on the spire in alloy.
Thanks bud! Crazy to hear about your issues as well with the quality of the Enduro frames… I’ve had no issues with feeling confident on this bike anywhere. Both bikes handle it all well!
@@scorch0248 only thing is- the cracks that I saw on friends bikes were 1)chainstay- stumpy Evo- 2)chainstay- enduro- 3) down tube stumpy Evo, and 4) BB area on a specialized fuse- 2 of these were warrantied and two ended up as crash replacement.
A couple of things: 1. That was a really short run, a longer run would have shown more disparity. 2. Totally disagree with the premise that brakes don’t affect speed. If you can come into a turn at higher speeds and buff down fast that is going to be much faster than slowing down much sooner into a turn. Think of a race car, you take the car with better brakes and handling over the car with more horsepower every day….because better brakes equals more speed on the course.
Agreed. In regards to 1, I acknowledged that it was a short run multiple times… and that I didn’t expect it to be that close, so I’d like to do it on a 3-4 minute run if I do it again. 2, I agree that brakes make a difference. I meant that bars, grips, stem, drivetrain, and other small parts alike don’t really affect it. I didn’t hear Chase slip “brakes” in there when we were filming. Sorry for the confusion
On such similar bikes it's good to see it's the rider that makes all the difference. If you'd want to get some difference in times you'd probably need to do longer and more technical trail/ natural trail with more roots and rocks? What do you think?
Awesome compare! Do you think the Enduro still is a good bike against newer bikes? I'm in the market for a new bike, and I'm tilting towards the Enduro 👍🏼
I'd like to see more comparison videos, but vs a totally different class bike. For example, how much slower is an entry level FS trail bike, or against a similarly spec'd modern and slack hardtail.
Good video keep it up! I got Enduro 2020 one of the first sw limited paint job ones, still haven't cracked it. Maybe not sending hard enough? I like transition and would like to try some day. Thanks for the video!
The bottom bracket is lower on the patrol With the spire into a mullet and in high setting. You would having a higher bottom bracket. Is this not a good thing.
If that’s the case, then that becomes a geometry preference for you. I personally don’t pay much attention to bb height. Instead, I’d make sure I like the rest of the bike. Reach, chainstay length, ht angle, st angle, etc. All depends on preference and what your intentions are.
Thank you for your replies. So, you still prefer the patrol? I’m asking because I cannot decide on a patrol or a spire, and it’s it’s doing my head in now. I’m thinking patrol and up the suspension to 170/170 But I don’t like the idea of being stuck with a mullet. As the spire gives me 170/170 and I can have both. Iv been riding a 2012 morewood makula dh 26r So, either bike will be a big difference My main concern is bun buzz
I wonder wether the Patrol is any good for racing ? The narrative seems like it was a pure fun bike. I'm looking for an agile fun bike that still can take a hit and that I can show up with on races with. Would be my 2nd bike, currently on a Remedy 8. Love it but feel like it is starting to limit me on the rough&steep. Anyone with some experience/advice on that ? Sry for my english
Out of curiosity what frame rate did you use on your gopro? Just doing some quick napkin math here but 24fps would make each frame 0.04seconds so a 1 frame difference in start and end frames would be bigger than the victory margin. Either way, you ran a super cool test. Nice work!
It was indeed 24fps but FCPX allows me to move in increments of .01 per “frame.” Tried my best to keep the starts as even as possible. Would like to test it on a longer run so the separation won’t be soooo slim
I currently have an enduro and really like it. I have a chance to frame swap to a sentinel. Someone tell me if I should. I ride all mountain stuff int he Pisgah. I like swapping bikes.
@@LastAphelion I swapped to the stump jumper evo. Just found really good price. It was the right move. So much better all arounder and can ride anything. I believe the sentinel would fall in that same category.
@Send 'er Buds I wonder how does the Transition Patrol in climbing? I would appreciate it if you can give me insights on the climbing aspect of this bike. Thank you so much! Subbed!
As with every enduro bike I’ve been on, it climbs decent. I’m not a strong climber myself so I can’t tell a ton of difference in bikes while climbing. Biggest difference maker imo is tires due to rolling resistance
@@Blake_Cherubini the thing with bike reviews, is that it is a lot personal preference. like the brakes. it all about how it feels. try bike swap for a day. then do a review based on comparison. You want the right bike for the right person.

💯🙌
I wasn’t considering the pads scenario, that’s sharp. But I did suspect the enduro was faster as he was more comfy up front on the Patrol admittedly.

Would you consider getting a spire and turning it into a mullet?
Probably not. It can be done but I’m not sure why you wouldn’t opt for the patrol instead which was designed for a mullet setup.
