    I'm currently riding a 2020 patrol that has been custom built from the ground up. gx axs on shimano cassette and chain, carbon cranks, carbon frame, fox 38 and a dhx2 with a cane creek progressive spring etc etc. it weighs atleast 37-38 pounds. It doesn't climb well but like you said, no bike really pedals "well" unless youre on a cross country race bike or a super light hardtail. i've come to the realization that no matter what bike i ride, if the bike suits my riding style then it is very likely gonna be awful at pedaling but I don't really care as long as i have fun on the downhills. Last weekend i did a big enduro race for the first time ever and it was 23 miles of riding, 4k vert gain and all of it was done on my patrol. It wasn't super easy but then again, no matter what bike you're riding, you are going to be exhausted at the end of a day like that.

      Yeah they're probably my favorite MTB channel going right now. I hope they get sponsored, but since they're not it's all very unbiased. Also appreciate how they don't edit out their spills. For the life of me I don't get how they don't have a higher sub count. Thinking maybe cause they don't ride the more popular trails/parks that people are searching for (Whistler, Moab, Sedona, etc). Maybe some more basic 101 kinda stuff and product reviews like Seth.

    Excellent review. Went with Commencal (Meta AM) over this one cause of availability. Paint issue is a bummer, I'd RideWrap it but that's a pretty small issue. And agree about the XT being better with brake pump. Had my bike at Mountain Creek with my RSCs and after 2 days I was hurting pretty bad. My bike was in the shop so grabbed a rental with XTs, WAY more comfortable.

Plus you can micro adjust individual shift points so you do not have that one gear that seems to not shift right. Charge only takes about 1 hour and lasts 20-ish riding hours per charge, so I do not think it will be a big deal (I do have a second battery just in case).

    Shimano brakes are great with how crisp they are. But, having that breakpoint float around on you during a critical point in the trail will freak you out. It will change randomly in either direction and it will completely interfere with your focus when you notice it. A few pumps usually rectifies it, but depending on the timing, it could be dangerous.

    I have been wanting to go to a Mix wheel style bike set up. Every video I’ve ever seen when it debates between 27.5 and 29 the 29er is always faster and then they always debate the mullet versus the 29er for speed but they disregard the fact that Some people ride 27.5 they really enjoy it being nimble but also because I’m 5’5 so having a rear tire that’s bigger doesn’t give me the ability to move around as much.

    • @Blake_Cherubini
      @Blake_Cherubini  2 роки тому

      It’s less about maneuverability for me than it is about clearance. I buzz my ass on the tire quite a bit on a 29er but rarely ever on a mullet setup. If you’re going for maneuverability, probably focus more on chainstay length. Shorter chainstay and overall wheelbase should give better maneuverability

    • @Blake_Cherubini
      @Blake_Cherubini  2 роки тому

      Pay more attention to chainstay length and wheelbase rather that just a smaller rear wheel. Not really going to get a drastically more playful bike by just adding a smaller wheel. You will get more ass clearance though. Shorter chainstay/wheelbase will make it more nimble/playful. Saying this because depending on what size Sentinel you have, the Patrol geo is extremely similar

    • @quinnsmith5617
      @quinnsmith5617 2 роки тому

      I went from a large v1 sentinel to the new mullet patrol size large. The wheelbase on my new patrol is a hair longer, but I’ve found that in many situations it feels more nimble. That being said, it’s not like the difference you’d find going from a dh bike down to a mid travel trail bike. Main difference was the feel mid-corner; I feel like the patrol wants to stay leaned over and finish out the turn while I had to fight the sentinel to keep it from bulldozing straight ahead. I can still feel the length of the patrol when trails get awkward and twisty though. The patrol is very playful for a big enduro bike, but it’s still quite stable and wants to go fast. That is the exact type of bike I was hoping for so I’m very happy, it’s everything good about my v1 sentinel minus the negative aspects (poor suspension platform, and it was hard to get around corners; the patrol fixed these while maintaining the ride qualities I liked about the sentinel). If you just want playfulness and wouldn’t mind losing 10mm of squish I’d also recommend checking out the scout, which is a very capable bike as well.

    I wish my parents could allow me to buy these kind of mountains bikes.
    The highest they can allow to spend is $200.
    Anyways loved the video. :p

      The Spire comes with a 30T chainring, my guess is the Patrol is the same. That being said this bike needs a 32T chainring to be just a normal pedaler. Maybe the BB it’s so low that Transition specified a 30T?? I was hoping that to be mentioned on any Spire/Patrol review but they all seem to avoid the obvious.
