    Depends on what style you’re playing and the sound you want. Personally I’d pick Hartke first, since that’s what I’m used to, and GK second. But for that classic rock sound you can’t go wrong with Ampeg.

    I agree that the Ampeg is my favourite (I love Ampeg, I've got an SVT 5Pro)
    The Hartke and the GK are very close but the Hartke seems to have a little more upper midrange that would probably sound nice in a mix. Selling the GK would at the very least free up the most rack space...

    You didnt run them all through the same cab though... That will color the tone quite a bit.
    Do the same, with the single cab with all of the knobs turned 12 clock, no pedals. - all of the boosts off.

    The biggest problem with the Hartke LH amps is that they use a Fender style tone stack for the EQ. Bass and treble are boost only. Mids are cut only. If you want to set the amp flat, Bass and treble on 0. Mids on 10. If you want to boost the mids, your out of luck. I had a Hartke Kilo though and it was the best sounding amp Ive owned.

    • @MichaelWilliams-fl4hx
      @MichaelWilliams-fl4hx  2 роки тому +2

      I boost mids with the tone on the bass tho.

    • @darwinsaye
      @darwinsaye 2 роки тому

      The Fender tone stack is all passive. Bass treble and mids all cut frequencies only - their output signal levels cannot be increased (boosted) beyond the input signal level coming into the tone stack. It is however, designed with that particular scooped EQ curve so that , yes, you have to cut each frequency unequally like that to get a somewhat flat EQ. You would probably get along well with something like the Traynor Mono Block II i used to have, which had both the standard passive Bass, Mid and Treble controls, as well as a 5 band active graphic EQ with 15db of boost or cut at each frequency.

    • @carpediemarts705
      @carpediemarts705 2 роки тому

      GK has always had mid boost as their signature boost. This ampeg sounds like ur has a lot more highs boost. So it's all in how you eq things.
      You don't hear hardly anything below 80 Hz, so having a cab tuned for low with drivers with longer excursion will give less actual punch in the 150 to 250 range. Drivers that don't try to go as low will have higher spl.
      You can't have everything from one speaker.

    I been a hartke fan since 92 but I ordered the ampeg ba115 about a year ago and the low end is just solid as fuck . I oedered the ampeg analog bass preamp pedal and it blows my mind at how powerful it sounds on my Jackson JS3Q bass . I did have to sell my ba 115 because I was about to lose my house. but I did manage to score on the newer version of the ampeg ba 110 and it even sounds .great with my ampeg preamp bass pedal. but I will be upgrading back to another ba115 here in the near future . but I bet the ampeg bass preamp pedal would sound great on a hartke too. but I want another ba 115 because I love having a solid ass bedroom practice amp and ampeg got that shit on lockdown for sure. but I still like the hartke . I had 2 hattke amps and loved them both but the ampeg does have that solid ass low end tone that I love . I just wish their stack prices wasnt so damn expensive because im a poor nigga but I love my classic rock and old school metal . but im not in a band as of now so its no big deal and I can sell my ba 110 because its new and just upgrade to a nice used ba115 and be happy as shit . but you got a nice setup thats ready for any show so thats a blessing my brotha . and I see you a Jackson fan also amd cant no bass compare to a Jackson bass

    Hey, yall. Been playing 40+ years. Started on guitar@ 12, but was meant 2B a bass cat. Started on bass in 96, when i got married. My 2 main favs. Mesa Boogie and SWR. i own a SWR Woking Pro 400---- bassically a redhead, without the preamp tube, same original preamp design and signal path with few extras. Praise Jesus---- listed for 1200.00 new-- got mine @ Guitar Center used in exceiient cond. for 350.00 . But sitting in the extra rack space in the 2x10 combo, is a Ampeg SVP Pro preamp-----same as in the Pro 4. i like Boogie but sooooo expensive. But also own a Line 6- POD-x3. the voices in this peice are unreal !!!!!!! I am very blessed, also own John Patituccis's Bag End bas stack from the 80's-90's. still need a amp head or pwr amp for it---1200-1600 needed. ive owned some Hartke stuff in the past and a friend loaned me an orig. GK 800 RB years ago- Awesome amp!---Hard to say, my Low End brotha, id pick the 800 RB over the LH 1000. My main bass,is a custom single make 7-string- lowB-highF 24frets 35" scale- 18 volt Audere preamp- pick ups are hand made and wound. father God is Very Good!!! you like Jackson basses,excellent choice--But one thing you may cosider----adding a 18volt Passive/ Active preamp to youre main bass. pref. with a 3 band EQ----or, a Aguilar Tone Hammer 18 volt Pedal-----they have an OB-3 but the Tone Hammer is in pedal form and casn be used with any passive bass.............................let me know, what you do, i will pray 4 wisdom for you and favor. sometimes children can shake up youre groove.

    Just configured a GK rig. I like your comparison. It backs up my gut feeling (which I ignored) and should have gone with the Hartke for crisp clarity on upper mids + punchy attack. I love Ameg- but as with the GK...abit muddy....not close by...but as the sound carries out the large audio waves...in a live gig (when not plugged into the house PA) and that Hartke is one amp...that will cut through the mix. Thx to your clearcut comparison video...I can perhaps augment my GK 1001RB II.

    I was a die hard hartke fan but now I moved on to ampeg because ampeg has that solid ass low end tone that cant be touched . I just hate that their price is really high but they sound great especially when you hook up the ampeg analog preamp pedal . theres just no better bass tone than that . I just ordered the ampeg preamp pedal and the ampeg ba 1 10 combo amp just to fuck around with in my bedroom . cant wait till they get here . my jackson js3q bass came in yesterday so im stoked about that . but I'll have that little 10 inch ampeg combo amp sounding like a champ .

    I think style matters allot, I personally love the Ampeg sound and play mainly hard rock & metal.
    If I were to play more clean funk R&B type bass I would go with GK - Ive played through a few other bass players GK setup and was always impressed by how smooth and round the tone was...

    You really ought to test all amps through the same cab miked up with eq set flat, then with similarly altered eq settings on each one. Your clothes say that you will probably still “like the ampeg the best”, and that’s okay. Different strokes and all that. Just not a very good experiment.

      @@MichaelWilliams-fl4hx well,...its still not a "FAIR" complete comparison. Bassists love different brands of equipment. I'd go to the music store to do comparisons. That way, I give them a better chance at choosing. Some like gospel, rock, funk, jazz, country etc. Ya' gotta' let them hear it fair and correctly. Basses are a choice too. This type of video have to be done a few times, because basses are a factor as well. Precision bass, jazz bass, Tobias bass, Yamaha bass, Ibanez bass. I'm just saying. 😊

      @@11coopbasscooper55 I did have hartke and ampeg cabs in the comparison. GK cabs are pretty much like a hartke cab.

    the Ampeg easily costs 3x what the Hartke and GK costs. It'd be fairer to compare the Ampeg Portaflex amp vs the Hartke and GK 800 RB

      No with a nikon camera and it sounds like what my ear hears in person. If you are used to fancy recording gear you might be spoiled from it.

    Depends on what style you’re playing and the sound you want. Personally I’d pick Hartke first, since that’s what I’m used to, and GK second. But for that classic rock sound you can’t go wrong with Ampeg.
