Thank you so much! I was just in the market for a bass amp, and I wanted to try out one of these class D amps. The only thing was that I couldn't find one anywhere to try out before buying! I ended up getting another LH 1000 like from the good old days. Sounds great, no nonsense, but my goodness that thing is heavy!! I would have bought the LX8500 if this video would have come out when I was buying earlier this summer. Actually, I think I will buy this amp when I can specifically as a result of this video Thanks again! I've been watching since the beginning of the channel.
There is certainly something special about the Hartke sound!!! I played one many years ago and fell in love with those aluminum drivers and the punch of these amps. It is one of those qualities I look for when shopping for and amp... Unfortunately, my wallet doesn't allow me to take one of these home! I'm in the traynor isle!!!!
I play on Hartke cabs in the cover band. Part of my band leader's huge gear collection. We got it hooked up to this sick ass Carvin head. No one ever has a complaint about my bass. Hell, our manager plays bass in another band and he's always gotta play around with our gear and my Sire bass after gigs lol.
Hartke is great, def gonna take another look at this amp. Love my LH1000 and HyDrive 410 tho. My tone is mostly generated on my pedalboard (split lo/hi signals), and I wanted a clean powerful transparent bass amp for it. People rave over darkglass heads, but with the preamp built into the amp head, I don't see any way to easily/affordably split the signal for separate processing on the lo and hi end, and I don't want that distortion applied to my whole signal. So I prefer to use darkglass pedals that way I can put the preamp (and other fx) wherever I want. No matter how drippy and wet I make the hi end, that clean compressed fundamental bass is always solid. Shout out to Trey at GG for showing the Tyler Splitter on his bass pedalboard build.
I noticed that you're recording guitars with P90s on this video. What's your opinion on P90s for recording? I was in a band with a guitarist who swore by them for recording. He reckoned they really did cut through on a mix and sounded huge.
Had a hartke 2x10 cabinet years ago. Nice unit, but you need to be careful if you live in the cold climate regions. The aluminum cones were prone to cracking at the outer edge if the speakers were really cold when you started wailing away through them. Again,, this was many moons ago,, so it might not be an issue anymore.
I have a Carvin 500watt Pro Bass amp. It is 20 years old. It has all the same features as that Hartke plus a 5 band graphic EQ, noise gate, frequency crossover/4db boost to any frequency and separate high - low input for active or passive basses. The transformer is teroidial. The best amp I've ever played through. CARVIN baby!
Hey Glenn! from the UK! What are your thoughts on the Behringer UMC22 Computer Audio Interface? Have got one yet just curious about its usefulness. Have a good one man!
GLEEEEEENNN, honest opinion on the Hartke HyDrive. How would you compare it to an Ampeg cab? I'm using an HLF 6x10, 45 years old and tired of making my Mom lug it around. I was looking at getting Hartke's 2x10 and 1x15. How much tone are the speakers really changing from brand to brand? And bro, you need to practice your bass a lot more. :)
Dude, you should check out the Hartke VXL Bass Attack, it's a discontinued bass DI pedal that's like a Sansamp. The Hartke VXL Bass Attack is dirt cheap on the used market, it goes for something like 30-40 bucks.
They sound great if you're in front of them, but have weak off-axis performance due to comb filtering in the side-by-side tens. Better off stacking 2 210's vertically - same volume, better horizontal dispersion, less footprint.
Hello Glen! I'm a stupid bassist and i whant to do an IR of my bass cabinet but i don't know wich mic is good for recording a bass cab... Can you help me? Thanks 9:56 min
Neat. I just got a bass and i'm looking into practice solutions for my instruments that don't require plugging into my guitar. Any small cab recommendations?
Little monster of an amp there, but I just got up from the knockout of that snare drum there! Wow that thing was punchy, any flavor thrown in there or was this just pure snare here?
hey glenn, ill suggest you try and get a old Mesa/Boogie Basis M-2000 amp to test, its my main amp along with my 2 diesel cabs, it and my multitude of warwick basses is killer
Is the fan on the LX5500 less noisy? I bought the LX8500 and I think the fan noise is realy a problem. Espacially since it kicks in as soon as you start playing one note and than stops.
I have a Hartke LH500. It’s a great amp. These new models are even better. I was just wondering the other day that petiole seem to overlook Hartke and go for more expensive amps that don’t sound any better.
As a bass player I take bo offence to the simplicity. I love it. Replaced my apmpeg pf500 with this. Couldn't be happier. Hopefully get the cab to one day.
As a bass player that does own a nice stack and knows what he is doing, I must say I'm not really fan of that head. It lacks mid range control. I'm assuming the "frenquency" knob is the mid range, just like the "shape" knob is just a different name for the Contour. For me an amp has to have both low-mid and high mid knobs or a set of graphic eq sliders so I can dial in my mids better. also I never use contour (aka shape). It's a way to scoop mids and that just causes your bass to get buried in the mix unless you play slap style only. The cabinet is ok , but I prefer some 12 inch speakers or a 2x10 and 1x15 , for better mid range. I do like the fact it has built in compression. More companies need to do this, I just wish they had more control of the compression built in. The only amp head I've seen with better compression control built into it's compression, was an Ampeg amp but it lacked the mid control I like and costed an arm and a leg.
I advocate to the bass:6 mids:10 treble:5 EQ settings with a bit of drive, that way everyone will hear you when you fuck up the only bass lick in the entire set.
@@jery3385 I use a galien Kruger RB 400III Head. My treble is at 6 high mid is at 7 low mid at 8 bass at 10. Contour is off and presence is at 5. Speakers are two tens on top cab and one 15 on bottom cab with a high freq horn built in the top cab as well

Back in 2001 I bought a Hartke HA3500 bass head and two bass cabinets.
20 years after I still own it.
I loved the Rush influence on the demo mix
Just bought one on Black Friday.. took $70.00 off at Sam Ash..
Got a great sound right away with all eq at noon..I’ve had a Hartke 3500 for almost 20 years and it still works fine but I wanted something lighter.. I’m happy with my purchase!!
I've seen Glenn change his mind about drum samples. I've seen Glenn stepping up when a company replaced a defecetive unit. But now I've seen Glenn doing slap bass. My life is complete and I can die in peace.
Didn’t know you were so good at bass awesome vid as always
Haha, what was song brilliantly skirting around the copyright of "Fly by Night"?
Thank you so much! I was just in the market for a bass amp, and I wanted to try out one of these class D amps. The only thing was that I couldn't find one anywhere to try out before buying! I ended up getting another LH 1000 like from the good old days. Sounds great, no nonsense, but my goodness that thing is heavy!! I would have bought the LX8500 if this video would have come out when I was buying earlier this summer. Actually, I think I will buy this amp when I can specifically as a result of this video Thanks again! I've been watching since the beginning of the channel.
Sounds great but why would you need 800 Watts ??? for a live set up ???
There is certainly something special about the Hartke sound!!!
I played one many years ago and fell in love with those aluminum drivers and the punch of these amps.
It is one of those qualities I look for when shopping for and amp...
Unfortunately, my wallet doesn't allow me to take one of these home!
I'm in the traynor isle!!!!
Would you ever test one of the all tube peavey bass heads? Vb2/vb3? I would love to hear how one sounds overdriven/distorted. Bass cabs?
Hartke makes great gear. It's on my dream list for bass gear, but it's hard to justify when I have a working amp and cab I've had for 25 years.
This one checks all the boxes for me.👍👍
Damn, that mix at the end sounded Great!!!Thanks Glenn!!!🤘👍
Cool to see the bass player using one of the original Yamaha Attitude 1 Billy Sheehan Signiture. Looks and sounds great.
Hey Glenn, any chance for an IR of that Hy Drive cab? I use your Zilla IR all the time.
Did you turn that bass up in the mix for review purposes? It seems to kind of stand out.
I'm sure most bass players see that mix as the gold standard but yeah, does seem they had the bass up rather high in the mix
How does this one compare to the LH500? 🤔
When are you going to release the oldeis but baddies winners?
Had a hartke 2x10 cabinet years ago. Nice unit, but you need to be careful if you live in the cold climate regions. The aluminum cones were prone to cracking at the outer edge if the speakers were really cold when you started wailing away through them.
Again,, this was many moons ago,, so it might not be an issue anymore.
When is the last time you changed those strings?
Never had one of these before. I will always rock out on my Darkglass Alpha Omega 900 Centurion Edition with my Darkglass 2x12 cab.
Wish they hadn't gone bankrupt.
Glen you should try out an old american peavey cirrus, you might like it more than the jazz bass.
Sound Radix has two. Auto Align POST and Auto Align. Which one?
Do You know maybe what are the diferences between the TX and LX?, Are the LX the "sons" of the LH líne?
Do you have anything smaller? Dream theater video reference BTW.
Thanks to Glenn I buy a set a strings bi weekly and learned to setup my bass. And.....I practice! Great video!
Hey Glenn! from the UK!
Any thoughts on the Gallien Krueger Fusion S 800?
This vs. Fender Stage 800. I have Stage 800 and love it.
And I’m both bassist and guitarist.
Dude, you should check out the Hartke VXL Bass Attack, it's a discontinued bass DI pedal that's like a Sansamp. The Hartke VXL Bass Attack is dirt cheap on the used market, it goes for something like 30-40 bucks.
In my opinion, 4 x 10 cabinets sound the best for base. Back in the early 1980s, I played through a Fender baseman ten.
Thanks

Neat. I just got a bass and i'm looking into practice solutions for my instruments that don't require plugging into my guitar. Any small cab recommendations?
Ampeg RB108!
Little monster of an amp there, but I just got up from the knockout of that snare drum there! Wow that thing was punchy, any flavor thrown in there or was this just pure snare here?
Did you see what Steel Panther's Satchel said about hiring a new bassist? ”We don't really want a musician, though, we want a bass player." LOL!
nice natural growl to the bass with this kit classic bass tone
hey glenn, ill suggest you try and get a old Mesa/Boogie Basis M-2000 amp to test, its my main amp along with my 2 diesel cabs, it and my multitude of warwick basses is killer
Is the fan on the LX5500 less noisy?
I bought the LX8500 and I think the fan noise is realy a problem. Espacially since it kicks in as soon as you start playing one note and than stops.
Hartke maybe my favorite bass amps
I have a Hartke LH500. It’s a great amp. These new models are even better. I was just wondering the other day that petiole seem to overlook Hartke and go for more expensive amps that don’t sound any better.
Great video Glenn! Any idea when your new series for recording heavy drums at home will be coming out?
Speakers are two tens on top cab and one 15 on bottom cab with a high freq horn built in the top cab as well
@@DenverStarkey damn, so much bass.
@@jery3385 if I had the money for a new set up
Id get a trace Elliot head with graphic EQ. And go with a 2x12cab on top and a1x15 on bottom.
@@DenverStarkey it's good you have it planned out, i am currently saving up money for a telecaster and a bass deluxe big muff.
Glenn thanks for the base love Happy Labor Day from a proud bass player and Union organizer. solidarity brother.
OMG these things are cool couple of bass players that had this set up.
