The fact you continue to review/advertise/endorse guitars and gear which are surely in direct competition with the company bearing your name really just displays your love of the industry and artform

Thanks dude, I like to see the industry as a group of brothers/sisters… Yes we all have something to sell, but that definitely doesn’t mean we can’t love and appreciate each other’s products - I don’t like it when people who own companies turn their back on the products that inspired them over the years that lead to them becoming a success.

Down-tuned baritones are awesome, have a huge place, and this sounds heavy, however, the clickbaity title misses the point of 7-string (& 8's) that in standard tunings handily reach a greater spread from higher registers clear to the lows in any playing position. "Economy of (hand) motion" is a benefit, not a drawback.
Anyhow, I enjoy your content as always, Congrats on 15yrs with UA-cam, Rob 👍

  • @foxtrot889
    @foxtrot889 2 роки тому +47

I can appreciate a good clickbait title, but hardly the end of 7's. 7's are cool in the fact that you can get that low A without sacrificing the high end. Admittedly playing a 6 bari is easier for people who are used to standard 6's, but my favorite part about a 7 is that when you're tuned down to A, you either have an E standard tuned 6 string with chord shapes (if you go Drop A) or a D standard tuned 6 if you drop it all a whole step. A 6 string tuned to A just sounds kinda yucky when you do your typical low fret barre chords. (edit: forgot to mention you can drop that E or D standard 6 to either drop D or drop C with much more ease than tuning a whole guitar.)
In short, baritone guitars are super cool, but they don't replace 7 strings. Different tools for different uses, even if the differences are fairly subtle. Baritone 6's are surprisingly rare compared to 7's too, so having an affordable neck-through with decent pickups for so damn cheap is always welcome. Never mind the fact that it looks like a Schecter/kiesel lovechild which makes it aesthetically appealing too. We need more beautiful bari 6's, let alone affordable ones. This guitar has me gassing hard for a bari 6 now.

I will never say goodbye to 7 strings! Detuning a 6 is fine, and I used to do it before I got 7s, but you sacrifice your higher end notes for soloing! I love 7 strings because I can still get that low end AND have screaming high solos. I missed that when I had my 6 string tuned down to B or A.

I most recently bought one of the Marquess basses and it's really well made and plays/sounds great. Maybe not replace my USA Fenders of Spector but definitely gigable and a lot of fun with folks trying to figure out what (brand) it is then watching them gape when they learn.
So it is no surprise at all to see so many of their guitars being widely praised by lots of varied reviewers.

In one of my guitars - a Chapman ML1 - is the Het set - and like any great instrument I can’t stop playing cos the combo of woods used - Mahogany, Maple and ebony - and the pups just add up to one awesome sonic experience and isn’t that the essence of what any musician is after? Chapman’s baritones are some of the best in the game for sure. Affordability and versatility are huge factors in that for me at least.
Feel like a lot of baritones have such specific visual designs and don’t allow for much freedom in customisation compared to the wider range of standard scale guitars.
But yeah, love my Chapman bari. Rocking that thing in Drop F#/E with a BKP Jug bridge and for an “affordable” guitar it sounds absolutely ridiculous.

7 String guitars give me crossed eyes. I do play low tune but I just tune a 6 string fix bridge down to where I want and then I do the lead parts with another 6 string FR that I keep in standard tuning.

judging the location of the pickup switch, it comes with 3 rolls of green tape too... why did they put it THERE, for crying out loud? :P

Despite the clickbaity title, I think that baritones and 7 strings are just two different things and one doesn't cancel out the other.

Wish I could have a jam with you as I've been experimenting with fat strings on my 4 string bass tuned to drop A. The end of 5 string bass's ?

I dont think it can replace a 7 string guitar. A 7 stringed guitar ia more versatile between standard and downtuning at the sametime.

I have now sold all my 7 strings and bought a few baritones. Seven strings are amazing, but its almost like a different instrument from a 6 string guitar. I found when I would switch back and forth between my 6 and 7 strings my technique would suffer greatly, the string spacing/neck width/ having a extra sting to mute were all things that I would eventually get used to, but then soon as I would pick a les paul back up and want to play in standard tuning my technique was a mess. However now I can just switch back and forth between standard 6 strings and baritones with zero impact on my technique or sound.

@@lancestewart6907 it is really better if you have specific tools for a specific task/purpose, but if we wanna get both worlds we choose an all in one tool. If you have a problem with muting the strings then disable it or remove it.. For the neck width, there are 5 year old kids that can play a 2 inched nut full sized classical guitar way better than me so its just an effort really. If you have a prpblem going back to the 6 strings, just dont go back :P , For me the real problem are the 9 stringed guitars.

I picked up a baritone and a Bass-VI and between these two and my other guitars and basses I realized I don't need a 7-string. :-)

I want them to make an Explorer shape version. Literally the same specs. Everything the same. Only change the body shape. If they made an Explorer version, I would buy it immediately.

I got rid of all my 7's and picked up 2 baritones. I loved the 7's but I found when switching back and forth between 6 and 7 strings guitars my technique would be a mess. When switching back and forth between a 24.75in Les paul and my 27in Esp BB600 all my technique stays intact.

Great video man! I won't be looking into Harley Benton baritones since my ML-3 Bea Baritone in Paleblood with a BKP Silo and a SD Lil 59 in it is doing the job perfectly.
Also Rob... You haven't played Dorje riffs in videos in a good while, and all of a sudden you're throwing All, Flower of Life and Centred & One at us... Don't tell me you've been rehearsing them for something, don't give me hope! 🤣
Great playing as always mate, can't wait to see you next week!

I want to get one but I think they are ugly and the Chapman Ml1 looks so much nicer to me, I love that abyss colour! Not that I can afford or really need either. Nice to hear someone playing those Hot Cats, I have a clone of the original Hot Cat and love the thing and really would like to try the new ones but I have barely heard anyone play them.

Comparing 7s to Baritones is a little strange. One can never be the substitute for the other. Just because Rob cant handle the 7 or 8 strings doesnt mean you can replace them with just a 6 string baritone
