I reeeally do not understand why beauty bloggers insist on having the mirror in the palette. It increases a price a lot and I literally never use a mirror of the palette or any compact whatsoever. And it's always risky to have a mirror inside the palette while travelling, because if the mirror cracks and shards of glass get into the shadow, you will have to throw the palette away. I always do my makeup standing in front of a big mirror. Like if I'm not alone here :)
AlexaOrchid I know this video is a year old, but I'm watching Arna's videos because of the charity fund raising... It really isn't that necessary to have mirrors in palettes, because the palettes usually won't stand on a table by itself in a perfects angle! I keep a mirror with me always when travelling or doing my makeup outside of home... And normal people aren't travelling that often as youtubers. Yeah I know people travel also for work and not just holidays but that's not my point. The mirrors in palettes aren't usually that practical so why to add extra cost and weight for the product. I need to see my whole face from the mirror so the size already is a limiting factor... why to have essentially ten tiny mirrors in your makeup bag with every single makeup item packaging from which none you can see your whole face from?!😳🤔 I have that Zoeva En Taupe palette and it's so flattering for a blue/grey eyed pale girl. I got it in a three set of other Zoeva palettes and that was the one I was the least certain of, and yet it was so beautiful when I tried it... When I do neutral eyes with brown color I often feel like something is off, maybe it's that cooler tones and taupes would always flatter me more... I wish she would re-do this video and remove the mirror bias and other not so relevant factors like finger printy packaging out of the eyeshadow palette criteria. They just feel such irrelevant reasons to rank a palette lower. I know she prefers single shadows more nowadays.
Agreed. How many mirrors need to go into landfill garbage sites worldwide for the sake of eye shadow? Seriously, buy a hand mirror, one for travel, one for your purse, maybe even one for your car, use these, the end.
It's so refreshing to see a video on cool toned shadow palettes amidst the thousands of videos out there promoting warm toned shadows. I too am very pale and cool toned with red hair and grey eyes and cool tones look best on me but I think with my coloring I can also pull of warm tones but I'm so over warm toned shadows now. Bring on the cool toned shadows!
It was a great video. I really don't know what I would chose out of her list other than the MAC and Urban Decay since I have those. I would like to try the Dior and maybe the Milani. Interesting list though. 👍😆😁💜
I have that Milani palette, and I just want to say that I think it really shines if you're a very fair, warm toned individual with a particular affinity for cool tones. If you feel that you find a lot of cool toned taupes and grey to read odd on your warmer skintone, I think the Milani palette is a fantastic choice because it's not AS cool and grey toned as many cool-toned shades.
I agree. I’m pale with warm undertone and straight up cool tones makes me look odd and... detached? But I love good muted, dusty, slightly leaning cool neutrals.

Love cool tones! Warm tones make me look ill. I wish we could get colourpop here in the UK. I hope companies wake up and realise there's a huge market for a full cool toned palette! So sick of yet another warm toned palette!
My absolute favorite cool palette is the Viseart Cool Mattes 2. I use it daily either by itself or for base colors. It's pricey but you get a ton of product and the quality can't be beat. I've also been loving Smashbox Punked palette which is perfect for travel, has great mattes and shimmers and has a mirror! I have all of the palettes you mentioned except Naked 2 bc it doesn't have enough mattes for me and the Dior one bc I have all of those mauves already. I actually am not a fan of the Fame palette bc I find there are so many shades that are similar when applied and feel they missed an opportunity to make a great varied palette. The plummy shades are either satin or shimmer instead of matte and the taupe shimmers almost all look the same on me. I rarely reach for it. Lately, I've been reaching for navy shadows as I've found they compliment my brown, almost black eyes, and look great all over the lid. Lorac Pro 2 is a great cool palette with a beautiful matte navy and I've been loving the Marc Jacobs Smartorial for blue as well. Thank you for sharing this! There are very few recent videos showing cool toned palettes!

I thought I’d see one of the Essence more rosey palettes. I have more of a warm undertone but cannot say ‘no’ to a good dusty pink eye. I highly recommend Essence ‘In love with rose’ palette, even though a couple of shades may not be particularly good, it is def worth the money if you can get it cheaply!
I’m personally not as into Rosy shades (I use to own Naked3 but decluttered it) and the fame palette has enough of what I needed hence my lack of inclusion! But thank you for the suggestion for others xx

I absolutely love the content you presented in this video, and I keep coming back to watch it every couple of weeks to get ideas and make purchases. I was getting really frustrated because it seemed as if the only palettes available were ones containing mostly warm browns, and I hate those warm, orangey-yellow-red, brown colors and NEVER buy or wear them. I was beginning to think there was just a handful of true cool-toned eyeshadow palettes available, but you have proved me wrong by adding a good amount of cool-toned or cool-neutral palettes, including ones from brands I've never heard of or palettes that I didn't even know existed. I’ve really been loving cooler/neutral shadows....Ive been on the hunt for the perfect lilac/purplish/silvery taupe lid shade...ideally this shade would be a satin......that wet n wild shade looks promising! I’ve bought so many singles trying to find the right shade ....it’s an obsession Have you tried the pretty vulgar early bird palette ? It’s cool toned ( livloveshermakeup recomended/raved about it) it recently came in the latest boxycharm and oh boy, the quality is surprisingly great!

I used to require mirrors too, but then I hit 40 and became far-sighted (again, as when I was very small, before my eyes matured and adjusted.) So now I need a magnifying mirror to do my eyeshadows and all the nice mirrors in my fancier palettes do me little good. *SIGH* My current favorite cool-toned palette is one all these lists seem to ignore: Flower Beauty's Cool Natural palette. It's fantastic! I was very pleasantly surprised. I wasn't thinking "cool" or "warm" when I bought it. It was just an instinctive move, and I remember saying to myself, "why? more boring brown shadows....but you like colors....??" But I bought it anyway. And when I put it on, wow! So flattering. Very nice quality as well. As for the Dior...I got it at deep discount recently, and I have to say, I love it. Why? Well, because I have rediscovered, duh, that I look so bloody good in cool tones, and it's truly a cool palette, and a lovely one. I do agree that some of the lighter shades aren't as pigmented as one might wish (especially for its original price!) but DANG, those deep browns/taupes are so so lovely. Melty soft, velvety, and the most pretty, unusual shades, not the same old browns. None of the pans in mine are dry, though? Maybe you got a dud :-(. Though I'd expect Dior to have better quality control, hmph. I do agree that the primer is stupid LOL.

Brilliant Arna! The work involved with this one is hugely appreciated. I'm tempted by the Zoeva one, even if there aren't any really deep shades, can always bring them in from somewhere else (think of it as a palette of transitions). Of the ones you rated, I only have the Fame - and while the quality is great, I am a tad disappointed by the colours, especially the top 2 rows, which skew really quite warmly beige on me, and I really need the greyer shades. I'm actually waiting on the Nyx cool neutrals palette and a 9 pan Make Up Geek one to arrive. Jeez though exchange rates & international shipping aren't kind to us with MUG - it ended up costing $88 - at least I know there won't be any wasted shades in it since I picked them all ( 1 shimmer, 8 mattes all in cool pink, greys and mauvey-grey taupes).

I bought a Naked 2 by your recommendation and enjoyed it like no other, the undertones and shade composition are just great and I can create many everyday looks with it ;) I’m really glad that despite the overload of work you’re still able to make such detailed and unique videos. YES ARNA! I'm a sucker for neutrals and cool-tones with my fair skin. Not to say I don't love a smoked out red eye, but I do a lot of basic looks day-to-day and this was super helpful!!!

Finally someone who suggests cool toned palettes. I read sooooo many times that natural palettes are boring. No they are not. Not everyone wants to go outside in bright blue eyeshadow. I own a few great warm toned palettes (Blood Sugar by Jeffree Star and Modern Renessaince by ABH) and I have been looking for something cool toned as well. Thank you so much for your help! :)

omg this vid came at the perfect time in my life! i was JUST looking at that zoeva palette yesterday after having the realization that cool toned purples + mauves look best on me - glad to hear the formula is generally good, it's so hard to find reviews on that palette for some reason. and i love that you complained it didn't have many colors in it to add depth; i have so many palettes with dark browns and blacks i never get around to using haha. i love me some soft natural makeup. thanks very much for making this video arna!
This video was SO helpful. I’ve been wanting to dabble in more cool tones but didn’t know where to start because the market is so saturated with warm tones - which don’t really suit my skin tone. Love your videos!
I'm olive with a neutral undertone, and I feel in general, cool eyes look more chic. Oh, and I have the Milani Soft & Sultry. The light shades may register as warm on fair skintones, but they are truly cool on a deeper skin. I use the matte off white w/ yellow undertone shade in the corner as a base and it comes out the perfect cool cream on me.

This video was exactly what I was looking for! Cool toned palettes that are matte and brown/taupe/blue seem to be a challenge to find on the market... even more so instore than onine. I’m leaning toward the Naked 2 palette, as I know I love the quality of the shadows in terms of pigment and durability and the fallout is non-existent for me... have you got the original Naked Basics? They don’t sell it online anymore.

This video is everything! A few years ago I put together a matte cool toned Inglot palette because there is hardly anything! Now there is a bit more. I love the Viseart Cool Mattes 2 but wow it was so pricey. Worth it though. I think I need that Colourpop palette. My Naked 2 is really old!

I'm so glad i found this video! I love love love mauve + taupe-y shades like the Tartlette palette's "Natural Beauty" and "Power Player" but it's super hard to find palettes with a lot of variety of cool shades that i like without having to buying a whole palette for only two shades that i would use in it. (That Mac palette is calling my name tho) Especially online where the colors are really not well represented in their product photos. I wanted that Milani Sultry palette because they look so beautiful in the product photos and even in real life in the pan but i have the Most Loved Mattes Milani palette and was disappointed that even the "cool toned" mattes in it pull super warm as well.. so i'm glad you showed that it's the same in the sultry palette too. I hope you revisit newer cool toned palettes soon!
When I purchased the Naked 2 palette, I also purchased the companion Naked 2 Basics all -matte palette. It was definitely worth it as it adds some needed, cooler mattes to all the lovely shimmer shades. Naked 2 is my favorite Naked palette! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
I love the Colourpop Fame palette! The shadows last incredibly on my eyes. I tend to have trouble with eyeshadows creasing, and these ones looked like I'd just applied them even hours later.
Great review and thorough! Have you tried the Stellar palette from Stilazzi? It's a lovely cool toned palette perfect for fall and winter! My second choice would be the Nightingale palette from Pretty Vulgar cosmetics. I got it in a Boxy Charm and can't seem to put it down, lol. I've used it 4x just this week!!
I just ordered the fame palette because of this video lol. I've been looking for a neutral cool toned palette for awhile. Something that can replace my naked 2 and 3. The naked palettes just have too many shimmers and not enough mattes for my liking, and I find the shimmers to be difficult to apply compared to a lot of other palettes out there. I'm so excited for to get my fame palette shipped. It looks perfect for a really pale girl like me! Thanks for putting in all the time and effort to make this. ☺

I'll have a look at the colour pop one, but I still feel like there should be more well rounded cool tone palettes on the market. Thank you for the video! I want to buy Fame palette now. My personal favorite cool tone palette is UD Naked Basic 2. And also Pat McGrath Subliminal, it is cool with pops of color. I think you would love it too. But it is VERY expensive.
I’m as fair as you are and use the essence highlight, but I drape it with my blush. I know it’s a trend long gone but it suits me very well, I always end up looking young and who doesn’t like that.
You've inspired me to rediscover my en taupe palette! I'm typically a more warmed toned eyeshadow gal, as I'm a little less pale than you and have more neutral to cool undertones, but I do love a more neutral cool toned palette for an everyday look. :)
I recently bought Jeffrey Starr’s Cremated palette at Nordstrom Rack. I hesitated for the longest time because I’m not a fan of his. Well…it’s exactly what I needed!!! I’m tempted to buy a 2nd one just to have when I’ve used up the 1st.
Hi, Arna!! I got the Bon Bon palette on your recommendation and I still love it. No regrets at all. I do have similar feelings on those pops of color but I like the versatility of it. Absolutely love my Naked 2 palette! I love it so much I wore it for my wedding last year. I remember I used Tease, YDK, and Busted. I literally did my makeup for two hours and blended my damn arm off but I have to say I don't think I did half bad LOL. Love your look in this video, Arna! I love Milani, I just have been struggling to get their stuff since like 2013-maybe....they moved out of CVS and u can only get them in the drugstore nobody goes to--yet when I go, Milani is always sold out. I have a few of their older palettes and they're still going strong. I love how I ranked these palettes and why. I don't bother worrying about mirrors anymore bc there's mirrors everywhere, and I have a micro thin lighted one I keep in my purse..plus the phone makes a good mirror 😂 These cool shades are so pretty, wish I could wear them but I'm oddly warm so they just make me look tired or bruised. I do wanna try some of the taupe and grayish ones just bc they're a bit more wearable with my complexion. U look amazing though in any of this stuff and ur eye makeup is always gorgeous!!!! THIS! Also I really don't mind cardboard packaging as they tend to be more easily recyclable (in the US anyway)

I too am very pale and cool toned with red hair and grey eyes and cool tones look best on me but I think with my coloring I can also pull of warm tones but I'm so over warm toned shadows now. Bring on the cool toned shadows!

I have that Milani palette, and I just want to say that I think it really shines if you're a very fair, warm toned individual with a particular affinity for cool tones. If you feel that you find a lot of cool toned taupes and grey to read odd on your warmer skintone, I think the Milani palette is a fantastic choice because it's not AS cool and grey toned as many cool-toned shades.

Love cool tones! Warm tones make me look ill. I wish we could get colourpop here in the UK. I hope companies wake up and realise there's a huge market for a full cool toned palette! So sick of yet another warm toned palette!
Yeah, me too, I like warm tones but many of them--especially ochres and really hot rusts and browns--make me look jaundiced and ill.
Colourpop ships to EU as well. I've never had any issues with it. Even in the US they don't have a physical store AFAIK
My absolute favorite cool palette is the Viseart Cool Mattes 2. I use it daily either by itself or for base colors. It's pricey but you get a ton of product and the quality can't be beat. I've also been loving Smashbox Punked palette which is perfect for travel, has great mattes and shimmers and has a mirror! I have all of the palettes you mentioned except Naked 2 bc it doesn't have enough mattes for me and the Dior one bc I have all of those mauves already. I actually am not a fan of the Fame palette bc I find there are so many shades that are similar when applied and feel they missed an opportunity to make a great varied palette. The plummy shades are either satin or shimmer instead of matte and the taupe shimmers almost all look the same on me. I rarely reach for it. Lately, I've been reaching for navy shadows as I've found they compliment my brown, almost black eyes, and look great all over the lid. Lorac Pro 2 is a great cool palette with a beautiful matte navy and I've been loving the Marc Jacobs Smartorial for blue as well. Thank you for sharing this! There are very few recent videos showing cool toned palettes!

I thought I’d see one of the Essence more rosey palettes. I have more of a warm undertone but cannot say ‘no’ to a good dusty pink eye. I highly recommend Essence ‘In love with rose’ palette, even though a couple of shades may not be particularly good, it is def worth the money if you can get it cheaply!
I’m personally not as into Rosy shades (I use to own Naked3 but decluttered it) and the fame palette has enough of what I needed hence my lack of inclusion! But thank you for the suggestion for others xx

I absolutely love the content you presented in this video, and I keep coming back to watch it every couple of weeks to get ideas and make purchases. I was getting really frustrated because it seemed as if the only palettes available were ones containing mostly warm browns, and I hate those warm, orangey-yellow-red, brown colors and NEVER buy or wear them. I was beginning to think there was just a handful of true cool-toned eyeshadow palettes available, but you have proved me wrong by adding a good amount of cool-toned or cool-neutral palettes, including ones from brands I've never heard of or palettes that I didn't even know existed. For me that shade is YDK from Naked 2, can be bought as a single. Has many tones as well so shifts depending on which shades you pair it with!
I used to require mirrors too, but then I hit 40 and became far-sighted (again, as when I was very small, before my eyes matured and adjusted.) So now I need a magnifying mirror to do my eyeshadows and all the nice mirrors in my fancier palettes do me little good. *SIGH* My current favorite cool-toned palette is one all these lists seem to ignore: Flower Beauty's Cool Natural palette. It's fantastic! I was very pleasantly surprised. I wasn't thinking "cool" or "warm" when I bought it. It was just an instinctive move, and I remember saying to myself, "why? more boring brown shadows....but you like colors....??" But I bought it anyway. And when I put it on, wow! So flattering. Very nice quality as well.
As for the Dior...I got it at deep discount recently, and I have to say, I love it. Why? Well, because I have rediscovered, duh, that I look so bloody good in cool tones, and it's truly a cool palette, and a lovely one. I do agree that some of the lighter shades aren't as pigmented as one might wish (especially for its original price!) but DANG, those deep browns/taupes are so so lovely. Melty soft, velvety, and the most pretty, unusual shades, not the same old browns. None of the pans in mine are dry, though? Maybe you got a dud :-(. Though I'd expect Dior to have better quality control, hmph. I do agree that the primer is stupid LOL.
I’ve been so excited for this video and it definitely did not disappoint. This was so incredibly helpful and you’ve done Ana amazing job in terms of details, etc. I also appreciate that you ranked them, and am quite happy that you’ve placed Fame at #1. Without even taking the amazing value into consideration, this palette is fabulous. It’s what I’ve been reaching for nonstop. And yes, funny how people were slamming it at first.

Brilliant Arna! The work involved with this one is hugely appreciated. I'm tempted by the Zoeva one, even if there aren't any really deep shades, can always bring them in from somewhere else (think of it as a palette of transitions). Of the ones you rated, I only have the Fame - and while the quality is great, I am a tad disappointed by the colours, especially the top 2 rows, which skew really quite warmly beige on me, and I really need the greyer shades. I'm actually waiting on the Nyx cool neutrals palette and a 9 pan Make Up Geek one to arrive. Jeez though exchange rates & international shipping aren't kind to us with MUG - it ended up costing $88 - at least I know there won't be any wasted shades in it since I picked them all ( 1 shimmer, 8 mattes all in cool pink, greys and mauvey-grey taupes).

Finally someone who suggests cool toned palettes. I read sooooo many times that natural palettes are boring. No they are not. Not everyone wants to go outside in bright blue eyeshadow. I own a few great warm toned palettes (Blood Sugar by Jeffree Star and Modern Renessaince by ABH) and I have been looking for something cool toned as well. Thank you so much for your help! :)

I'm olive with a neutral undertone, and I feel in general, cool eyes look more chic.
Oh, and I have the Milani Soft & Sultry. The light shades may register as warm on fair skintones, but they are truly cool on a deeper skin. I use the matte off white w/ yellow undertone shade in the corner as a base and it comes out the perfect cool cream on me.

This video was exactly what I was looking for! Cool toned palettes that are matte and brown/taupe/blue seem to be a challenge to find on the market... even more so instore than onine. I’m leaning toward the Naked 2 palette, as I know I love the quality of the shadows in terms of pigment and durability and the fallout is non-existent for me... have you got the original Naked Basics? They don’t sell it online anymore.

This video is everything! A few years ago I put together a matte cool toned Inglot palette because there is hardly anything! Now there is a bit more. I love the Viseart Cool Mattes 2 but wow it was so pricey. Worth it though. I think I need that Colourpop palette. My Naked 2 is really old!

I'm so glad i found this video! I love love love mauve + taupe-y shades like the Tartlette palette's "Natural Beauty" and "Power Player" but it's super hard to find palettes with a lot of variety of cool shades that i like without having to buying a whole palette for only two shades that i would use in it. (That Mac palette is calling my name tho)
Especially online where the colors are really not well represented in their product photos. I wanted that Milani Sultry palette because they look so beautiful in the product photos and even in real life in the pan but i have the Most Loved Mattes Milani palette and was disappointed that even the "cool toned" mattes in it pull super warm as well.. so i'm glad you showed that it's the same in the sultry palette too.

When I purchased the Naked 2 palette, I also purchased the companion Naked 2 Basics all -matte palette. It was definitely worth it as it adds some needed, cooler mattes to all the lovely shimmer shades. Naked 2 is my favorite Naked palette! ~Anastacia in Cleveland

I love the Colourpop Fame palette! The shadows last incredibly on my eyes. I tend to have trouble with eyeshadows creasing, and these ones looked like I'd just applied them even hours later.
And I’m so craving MORE cooler toned makeup items, so this was very helpful!

I just ordered the fame palette because of this video lol. I've been looking for a neutral cool toned palette for awhile. Something that can replace my naked 2 and 3. The naked palettes just have too many shimmers and not enough mattes for my liking, and I find the shimmers to be difficult to apply compared to a lot of other palettes out there. I'm so excited for to get my fame palette shipped. It looks perfect for a really pale girl like me! Thanks for putting in all the time and effort to make this. ☺

Hi, Arna!! I got the Bon Bon palette on your recommendation and I still love it. No regrets at all. I do have similar feelings on those pops of color but I like the versatility of it. Absolutely love my Naked 2 palette! I love it so much I wore it for my wedding last year. I remember I used Tease, YDK, and Busted. I literally did my makeup for two hours and blended my damn arm off but I have to say I don't think I did half bad LOL. Love your look in this video, Arna! I love Milani, I just have been struggling to get their stuff since like 2013-maybe....they moved out of CVS and u can only get them in the drugstore nobody goes to--yet when I go, Milani is always sold out. I have a few of their older palettes and they're still going strong. I love how I ranked these palettes and why. I don't bother worrying about mirrors anymore bc there's mirrors everywhere, and I have a micro thin lighted one I keep in my purse..plus the phone makes a good mirror 😂 These cool shades are so pretty, wish I could wear them but I'm oddly warm so they just make me look tired or bruised. I do wanna try some of the taupe and grayish ones just bc they're a bit more wearable with my complexion. U look amazing though in any of this stuff and ur eye makeup is always gorgeous!!!! I find it interesting that mirrors in palettes are so important to people. I never use palette mirrors. How often do you actually use yours?
Thanks for doing a cool toned video. Super helpful. I liked my Naked 2 palette, and love the Naked 2 Basics palette. I do like pops of color though, so I might buy the Too Faced one if I needed another cool toned palette.
I actually use it everyday! That’s why it’s important to me! I don’t mind if a blush or something doesn’t have a mirror but an eyeshadow palette one is very helpful!
I’ve been waiting for this video as I really want to try a cool toned palette! So thank you for making this! Now I just need to decide which one to get! At the moment I’m torn between the UD naked 2 or the big MAC cool neutrals palette
