There’s this amazing transformative point during the tutorial where the paint strokes and splodges disappear and it comes to life, and BOOM, you can just see waves. In awe! Fantastic 😎🤩 Found myself just shaking my head & going ‘wow’ 😎 (out loud .. to myself 🤦♀️😂) have to say, more importantly, they are inspiring, makes me just want to have a go! 🙏🙏🙏. Very grateful 🙏🙏☺️
A big thank you for all Paul and Margot do to bring us all their knowledge . For all the time you donate freely and generously give . I have learnt so much and it is really appreciated . If Iived in England Iwould certainly be the first on your list to take in house classes Thank you
Paul, you are so generous to give us three ways of approaching a wild sea. Thank you. And as always, love the humour, which clearly the dogs are part of, as well.
I love all 3 of these, Paul, but the last one took my breath away! Absolutely gorgeous with its moody atmosphere. You're such a gifted artist. Thank you for taking the time to show us your techniques and for your encouragement, although I'm wondering if maybe I'm better at the beer interludes rather than the actual painting.
I don’t know how anyone could not like your videos…you make it look so easy until I go to try it myself…I keep trying and I do believe I’m getting better…thanks so much and I really look forward to Wednesday’s.
I am a recent convert to your channel. I always learn something after viewing your tutorials and have tried to put your techniques into practice. I liked your Rough Seas so much so that I grabbed my camera, donned my wellies and my anorak and headed for the Oregon coast in search of examples to paint. My Paul Clark watercolour brushes arrived a few days ago, and I can't wait to start splatting. Your sense of humour is much appreciated!
Ooh, Paul, challenges or what! In order of scariness No. 1 is top, no. 2 is the least scary, and no. 3 is beautiful, and, as you said, moody! Thank you for another great lesson!
I wanna cross the sea to shake your hand. Each time I'm losing my motivation in painting I just need to check your videos to get it back. Truth is you are really amazing. Thank you !
How very generous and kind you are to share such detailed watercolor studies. I have been painting for a few years but stopped during our first lockdown, just losing the drive. Many of our creative outlets just closed, our community art center closed , our Shakespearean plays ended and I lost momentum. A few months ago I decided to try, "Your how to paint a Mountain Scene". I loved the rich colors and wandering path. Since then I attempt daily one of your examples, such a wealth of tips and techniques. Scraping paint has always been fun but sharpened paint brushes and using credit cards, brilliant. If you were not some 6000 miles away I would truly enjoy an English plein air experience. thanks again for your time.
That scratching with the tip of the scalpel makes all the difference. More alive and realistic. Always wondered how to get that sparkle on the water. Thankyou now I know
This was SO helpful! Lots of techniques shown simply, with clear instructions. And I really, really love the little gallery of folks’ attempts at the end. Great!
You are such a good watercolour tutor, Paul. Your name and tutorials are continually used on the Facebook Watercolour Beginners group. We hang on your every word. Hang on while I make one of my brushes grotty... 😄
God Bless you sir Paul.As always sir you made awesome video about a topic that is non existent on youtube.Sir this is phenomenal thank you beyond words for how to paint rough seas.
So hard to pick a favorite I loved all 3! Sea scapes are definitely one of my favorite things to paint! The way you blotted the paint in the second to create the wave behind the rock, I will definitely be giving that a go! The colors of the third one 🤩! I like that you showed the grey scale to help get your values, I always find that helpful. Thanks for another lovely video, now I want to take a trip to the sea shore!
I grew up having frequent holidays in Malta, where we spent many occasions on our cousin's 30ft Luzu, I loved sitting at the front of the boat with my younger cousins, with my feet dangling over the side and feeling the fine sea spray on my legs arms and face! This first scene reminds me exactly of how the sea looked as the boat moved through it! It is just stunning, how you have captured this, and you just made it up! Very grateful to have watched this, you are brilliant!
Beautiful paintngs, clearly explained. Thank you. I am pleased to see somebody using Paynes Grey. It's not a colour that many artists like. To me it's a great substitute for black. I often use a mix of Ultra Marine blue and Burnt Umber instead of a regular pan or tube.
Amazing. You're such a great watercolorist, and a generous teacher. I can't thank you enough for teaching real skills, and at the same time being lighthearted and encouraging. 🙏🙏
You are such a talented artist and teacher. You make painting watercolor look so easy so those of us learning feel it is indeed possible to create beautiful paintings. Thank you. Your humor is really appreciated as well!
Ohh wow that’s fantastic looking fun for all 3 of these different rough seas. I really appreciate & enjoy seeing how you go about with breaking down the paintings into very easy to paint steps to achieve such exquisite artwork. I am also thrilled with how you painted the full body of the seagull in the second painting! I am going to have to give that a try too. 💕😃 I love how the dogs apparently got you soaked this time 😂. I also love that you have found those interesting variety brands of beverages to match some of the videos. Love how yours & Margo’s humor comes across the videos. Such a fun time on Wednesdays when watching your channel. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video.
This was an excellent tutorial; three different scenes displaying so many techniques! Seeing the different approaches at the end added extra inspiration to try these three paintings. Thanks for another great class!
nice art. I also love to draw with watercolor and various medium. plz watch my channel "Art Bibek Roy". Recently i drew "KIARA ADVANI" Shershaah" movie actress portrait watercolor portrait.I draw with acrylic, fabric ,pencil sketch also digital medium. i love draw with various type of medium
I have switched from Faber Castell oil pencils to watercolour this year .. a challenge I set myself. THIS painting is exactly the sort of thing I want to be able to create in watercolour. This one and sunsets and sunrises .. and beaches .. maybe flowers .. landscapes, definitely landscapes .. lol
LOVE this video!!! 3 in 1, you're spoiling us! It's like a good beer... Refreshing, tasteful and satisfying! Cheers and thanks for sharing your knowledge and humor. 👍👍👍
Hi Paul, your channel is the best watercolor channel I can find on youtube, always with great personality, neatly edited, and a lot of wonderful techniques for a newbie like me. Watched a lot, first time to say THANK YOU!!!
My favourite was number three with a strikingly realistic jetty, and "seasoned" wave spray. I also noticed you dressed appropriately to blend in with the wave theme. I continue to thoroughly enjoy your weekly tutorials and look forward to Wednesday's dose of inspiration!! Thanks Paul
Again a super lesson, great tutorial and lovely paintings! The third painting I definitely find the hardest to do. I enjoy these "theme" lessons focusing on one subject so much as it helps to study the subject and the process better (i.e. rocks, water, shadows, ...). Thank you and my best regards from Berlin 👍🤗🤩
I had a terrible night today. I havent been feeling like myself and bevause of that i havent painted for some time.. this video teared me up because it opened in me a light. I want to paint as soon as i can ❤
Personally I think sea scenes especially crashing waves are the hardest thing to paint 😫 but you seem to make them look really easy Paul. Once again your stage by stage process and indicative ideas as to colours etc are subliminal 😁
This is just what I needed! Been struggling a lot with painting water. In acrylics I lowkey managed but ink, gouache and watercolour proved to be a nightmare
Great! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge! I use candle wax at the beginning as I have picture in my mind. That way there is always beautiful water.
You’re my new addition! I just can’t stop watching your videos! So annoyed that I live in Australia as I’d love to go to your weekly workshops.. I meet twice a week with friends at my local art society. I put a couple of your videos on during a break. I’ve spread my addition! All of us were amazed at the rock and sea one you did.
5ways to paint water and this one are 2 of my favorite videos.i tried all of them hope to do again again.wish we get more of rogh seas 🌊 from u and more buckets of refreshing water thrown at u sir😎
The last one is outstanding. Love the limited palette, "this" close to a Zorn palette, not a blue in sight.. and really appreciate all the FB original interpretations. I think it really helps to see what others do with the same subject, and it's so encouraging to everyone.
You create a great atmosphere in your painting. We live 200 yards from the sea and it has always been quite a tricky subject. You have shown me some good techniques to try. Thank you. Andy
Wow...thanks for the tutorials.i was gradually able paint without fear and made up my speed..love that doggys with the buckets...innocent darlings...😂😂😂😂
All three were beautiful. I can’t decide which one I like more. I will have to have a try at painting them. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us.
Thank you Paul, seriously breathtaking watching those 3! It’s quite magical how you put paint on paper and bring a beautifully dramatic image to life! You are truly gifted! Prussian Blue is lacking in my tiny palette so I guess I’ll need it so I can give these wonderful scenes a go.
This is the best video I’ve seen for rough water. I’m just learning how to paint (a fascinating process since I can’t draw). I “work” in mixed media using stamps, but need lots of help with water and waves.
Thanks Paul, for your lovely video and your great sense of humor im glad to be your subscriber you make me love watercolor and life more and more everytime : )

Very nice of you to say 😁

That is one of the nicest comments ever Alexis, thanks so much and delighted to help! 😆
All are beautiful, but the last is my favourite for the reflections and the strong atmosphere!!Thank you Paul !!
Thank you too!

I love dark, moody and the rough sea so I must have a go at these (a few times).
