Becca Mei it's because he could have asked for the 2 stars from the most expensive place but the tattoo artist tried to have more meaning and the end result would have been better
Okay, as someone that works in the tattoo industry.. the last tattoo was horribly done. The stencil was amazing, however if you pause the video on the up close shots.. it's shocking at how badly the line work was. There were blow outs, inconsistent lines and it was just... hard to watch someone that has amazing talents, execute a tattoo that looks like an apprentice did it. If he is happy with it, that's great! BUT for $875 and a "year long wait list" That piece should have been flawless.
I agree with this so so much. Th composition was great, but the execution was appalling. The shading was inconsistent and the lines aren't sharp.... If the client is happy, then no big, but I feel like the client is wooed by all of the fancy treatment with drinks and "super personal consultation" (which is expected and normal btw??).
I agree, however, at the very end of the video it does have the artist saying he'd usually do that amount of work over a couple of sessions but still. Really not great...

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that his tattoos weren't wrapped ?? Normally, after getting one you should wrap it and take care of it ! Not just put a T-shirt on O_O
The wrap can be taken off at any point after you leave the shop. Tattoos are wrapped one for the shops sake of keeping it clean, and two for legal reasons. Health codes and things of that sort.
I was bothered too. Not only did he not wrap it, he wasn't applying ointments and kept getting more work done. I'm not an expert on tattoos, but I have gotten two, the shop has given me and my boyfriend, a care sheet and it tells you to keep it wrapped for at least a week so it doesn't get infected or wet cause it's pretty much an open wound. Also to apply ointment and lotion to prevent itchiness and keep it moist.
They don't film it all on the same day and the tattoos looked healed when they were in the car so the likelyhood is this video took a few weeks/months to film
Samantha Bent I have never heard of keeping a tattoo wrapped for more than a few hours. In fact, if you did keep it wrapped for too long it could get infected from excess sweat and moisture being trapped in the bandage. Tattoos may be a type of wound but the care is much different from any other wound you could get unintentionally.
my dad has a biohazard symbol on his arm, that he picked out of a flash book on a whim. they told him it would last 2 years, and here we are 15 years later..
It always depends the time they work with you, the size, the color. There's alot that actually goes into the price. If he would have gotten a bigger tattoo. It easily would have gone into the 1500 rage to easily over 2000.
In all reality he got a better bargain than the elevator piece and in the end a much better tattoo. 6 hours or so of time for 875 isn't a bad deal at all when you see a lot of black tattoo work at around 1500 an hr
I love the look of tattoos on other people, but at this point in my life, I don't think there's anything that means enough to me to get it permanently inked on my body. I will say that the last guy made me the most interested in a tattoo. He was a goddamn artist! Insane talent. Beautiful work.
Wes Cameron same, I would like to get a tattoo but I feel like if I'm going to get something that says on me forever it has to have a very special meaning to me
Wes Cameron same, I love the idea of tattoos and the vibe they give people but I personally wouldn't be able to live with it - or I might but I don't want to put any more strain on my liver than absolutely necessary lol
I remember watching this when I was 18 and I barely had any tattoos. 3 years later and a year of apprenticeship and this entire video is a joke and a disgrace to tattooing. Period.
Hey! Im obsessed with tattoos & the industry as a whole, I have 10 so far with 2 more booked for next week! I’m intrigued as to why this video is so bad? I have my own ideas but haven’t worked in a tattoo shop not have I learnt in depth about tattooing ..please share your thoughts! Xx
@@honey3202 I have a few tattoos and am intrigued by the craft in general. I'm certainly not an expert on tattoos, but it's usually a rule of thumb in life that someone who practices something for only a year and talks like they know more than everyone about it is usually naive and has a world of knowledge to still learn. No matter his reasoning, his arrogance is offensive.
I liked how the tattoos came out and the whole concept of having each tattoo artist adding on to the previous artwork, from two simple stars to a galaxy, to having a detailed face tattoo right above the galaxy. The whole process is just amazing, seeing how the artists come up with ideas from their minds and their client's requests. The tattoos look great and they hold a significant meaning to Ben, its a win-win xD!
That's what I was thinking too, plus it was so much more expensive because of the length of time, how much would have a one hour tattoo at speakeasy been?
Honestly the most expensive tattoo price was totally worth it, it was so beautiful and meaningful and he really put so much time and thought and heart into it
Absolutly! For me it was the winner! 2 stars 100 dollars??? WTF! they werent even that cool or hard to draw or tattoo. The last tattoo artists is the real tattoo ARTIST. He makes art pieces, he is amazing at drawing. He draws exclusive art pieces that he tattoos on people. He draws marvelously, he touches up the stencil free-hand and than he tattoos with excellent technique. That guy is AMAZING.
$400? Really? for THAT? Btw: I was screaming, when they rode in the car and he had his arm taking all the sunlight, going straight from a t.shop without any wrap.
I think is depends on where you live on the cost of a tattoo. My daughter has gotten some really good tattoos and good size ones and didn't have to pay $800. I think her most expensive one was around $375.
@@zachglisson Almost complete with my left arm so far spent close to $1,200 since my pieces ranged from $60-$500 and I did each piece in sections but this last tattoo that $1,200 would be about $1,800
I just got a watercolor that almost covers my entire inside forearm. It took about 2 hours and I paid 300 with a 40 tip. It was in Atlanta so that was to be expected.
I got a 12$ haircut. I got a 90$ haircut. I got a 270$ haircut. What I gotta say is I liked the 90$ haircut most but the 12$ haircut was fine. 270$ was just to much. No real benefits.
I've had a $300 haircut. My hair looked dope but it wasn't worth $300 I get my hair cut for $30 and it's good enough for hair I don't model my hair doesn't need to be perfect.
Marcus It's way too cheap in my opinion. 6 hours tattooing, probably an hour or so consultation, drawing the tattoo, equipment etc. etc. Even having such a long waiting list should give him a reason to charge more for his work. The other two were reasonable I think.
Also depends on how they get paid if they work on the hour then the artist will definitely try and stretch the piece out longer even though it it would probably take half the time if they worked peacework and got paid by the piece - there’s more of an incentive to move quicker without compensating the work being done
I agree with this, I feel like he should’ve taken a route with a lot more color than just a black blob. Personally I don’t really dig the tattoo, and the price was a little outrageous for a 2 hour piece.
You should do a video of worth it describing a day with a certain amount of money. Example: $100 for a day vs $5000 a day. You see what kind of food you get per day and what transport u use and stuff
I like that idea, but maybe they could expand upon your idea, like instead of just a day try a week or somewhere along that, because with the day you can;t see the aftermath of the next day of spending too much or too little, I think a week would be a lot more impactful.
Tattoos are something that'll most likely be permanent. When you want something like that you should be willing to spend for the best quality if it's something on your skin that is going to pop out. It only makes sense.
It would have been even more interesting if you used the same concept for all the 3 tattoos, and see which one turns out to be the best. You can't really compare 2 tiny stars to a half sleeve tat.
Bruce Wayne Parts were cool, but it didn't seem to blend into the other tats very well, like you could tell they weren't done at the same time or whatever. Idk, if I ever got a half sleeve like that, I'd want it to look like one big piece, not a bunch of small ones crammed together, and that's how this one ended up, like there was no flow.
I feel like the last guy is a really good artist, but his tattooing skills are not on par with his drawing or painting skills. His designs and the paintings in his studio are amazing, but the lines in that tattoo were kind of wobbly. I think it'd be better if he designed the tattoos and had someone else transfer them into the skin until his tattooing is more confident.
☢ ᴅᴠᴅ ᴘʟᴀʏᴀ ☣ Steven he chose the stars place because they seemed the most gentle if he ever got a tattoo, which he said won't. But that's not the place the guy that got the tattoos picked--he picked the $800 place!
"Gentle" yeah LOL I was set on fire by gasoline so I know what real pain feels like. A tattoo is pretty relaxing to me. It's when you're going 4 hours straight and they're shading over n over onto sore spots that were inked in hours prior. That's when some discomfort kicks in. Because I always see people saying Tattoos don't hurt, bla bla, but have they gone 4 hours? That's what I ask myself. I had my whole elbow tatted and the worst part was trying to sleep! xD
☢ ᴅᴠᴅ ᴘʟᴀʏᴀ ☣ For me I would have been like not worth it but if you consider what goes into a tattoo then it's not a bad price. I thought it would have been about $60 dollars, 80 not that bad.
When he started talking about his aunt, that really got me because I’ve had that exact thing happen. My aunt passed last year due to a scuba diving accident in Florida
I'm getting a back piece dedicated solely to my uncle and great grandmother, both who have passed. I was very close to my uncle, he was like a father figure to me. So I understand getting his aunts eyes.
I don’t know a thing about tattoos and I have no intention of ever getting one- but what I really liked about the tattoo artists in this video is how each artist was respectful of what art was there before what they applied; rather than “cover” or “modify” they “complimented” what was already there (for lack of better terms)

$1 Loaf of Bread
$25 Loaf of Bread
$200 Loaf of Bread
I'd watch that.
Conner but is the $200 bread topped with white truffles?
That and of course edible gold ftw
Conner no more like 50$ tatoo removal vs 5000$ tatoo removal
$1 bread wonder loaf
$25 shreds of edible gold cascaded on it while baked in an over for 3 slow years to age
$200 just a sponge soaked with truffle oil.
$500 Heart Transplant vs. $50,000 Heart Transplant
Drop Dead Deja I'd be dying to see that happen
$500 for a heart? what heart is that? sheep's heart?
Other countries vs. USA? lol.
Heart transplants cost closer to 1,000,000 lol
Roz Harris lol wtf
He went from something so small the Moon and now it is taking up half his arm
Go hard or go home.
I think we can all agree the $80 tattoo is better then the $400 one

Tattoos may be a type of wound but the care is much different from any other wound you could get unintentionally.
i really dont know but i have watched so much those tattoo Shows from tv and they always wear tgem like couple weeks, maybe they change it??
I love how his tattoos are so meaningful whereas my dad has a straight up demonic nun lmaooo

Right? They have a video where they spend $25,000 on sneakers and don't even break $1,000 on their high end tattoo?!
I went to a moderately priced tattoo artist and spent about 1200 for two sessions 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🙃 so
Mako Yuhara total I’m guessing...

Wes Cameron same, I would like to get a tattoo but I feel like if I'm going to get something that says on me forever it has to have a very special meaning to me
Wes Cameron also as we age , our skin gets wrinkled and the tattoo would look all lopsided and weird :/
actually u shouldn tattoo something what means a lot, except that REALLY means a lot. Have geometric half arm tattoo 7 years and never bored.
cjs i know a 63 year old man who has amazing tats. He's also got some retouched up. Wrinkles don't make them look as bad as ppl act.

@Synyster agreed. That looked like it could have been 460-500 max. It was good, but not almost 900 dollars good

Naah. I don't feel that. I wonder how many times he'd said that...!?!? I bet he rather do the tattoo and take the money.

To be honest the 875$ tattoo was really cheap if you think about how much work and time it took him.
i think the free publicity was payment as well.

That's what I was thinking too, plus it was so much more expensive because of the length of time, how much would have a one hour tattoo at speakeasy been?

If I ever get a tattoo, I would want someone like him to do it. 875$ for such an amazing art work? I'm in.

$400? Really? for THAT? Btw: I was screaming, when they rode in the car and he had his arm taking all the sunlight, going straight from a t.shop without any wrap.
FR- LIKE Bub didn’t u just get a tatto and aren’t supposed to have it out in the sun and Whereee is the wrap ffs 💀🤚
It really depends on the artist and the tattoo. If I remember right the wrap is for swelling and bleeding .
Personally the dude that did the stars at the start was the best
Gabz andHorses he was really chill. I had skipped through the video and didn’t think he was the $80 artist.
Honestly I feel like that guy would give you the best $800 tattoo you've ever seen
he tattooed a name upside down....
Yup, just about the price, if you give him more money trust me, he will definitely do better 🤣
john derry he tattooed it the way the client wanted it. I also have a tattoo “upside down” just because it looked better this way to me
The galaxy with the stars and moon should have been colored he has the skin to pull it off.
i know, it had so much potential to look super pretty
it was his choice. he wanted i to look like that.
omg that would've made it look so much cooler, especially in contrast w the elevator and the piece he got after
Color tattoos don't fade very nicely
Especially since the artist that did it doesn't specialize in black and grey

I think is depends on where you live on the cost of a tattoo. My daughter has gotten some really good tattoos and good size ones and didn't have to pay $800. I think her most expensive one was around $375.
My buddies sleeve in Canada was over $1200 I believe

I got a 12$ haircut. I got a 90$ haircut. I got a 270$ haircut. What I gotta say is I liked the 90$ haircut most but the 12$ haircut was fine. 270$ was just to much. No real benefits.

+Shogun_ Speaks (Lord Castell) but what if u did model 0.o
$875 is actually fairly priced. for a 5-6 hour piece
Marcus It's way too cheap in my opinion. 6 hours tattooing, probably an hour or so consultation, drawing the tattoo, equipment etc. etc. Even having such a long waiting list should give him a reason to charge more for his work. The other two were reasonable I think.
Marcus Yeah, to me it seemed like he could charge more.
not in the uk it isnt that is crazy money i can get a 8 hour sesh for under half of that
Way too cheap compared to good indian tattoo artists.
Cheap for that amount of work and talent .
2 hours for the $400 tattoo? A real artist that loves their craftsmanship would have taken a good 4 hours on that piece.
Yeah and I didn’t like his answer you need to trust your artist like dude doesn’t sound that confident
Also depends on how they get paid if they work on the hour then the artist will definitely try and stretch the piece out longer even though it it would probably take half the time if they worked peacework and got paid by the piece - there’s more of an incentive to move quicker without compensating the work being done
Definitely depends my artrist was awesome and we took no breaks. 1.5 hour and my whole outside of my calf for $400
@Julian L. just started my sleeve Sunday and paid 400 for three new tats 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I agree with this, I feel like he should’ve taken a route with a lot more color than just a black blob. Personally I don’t really dig the tattoo, and the price was a little outrageous for a 2 hour piece.
I respect that last tattoo artist so much. They know their worth, and aren't willing to just tattoo anything

Hi

You should do a video of worth it describing a day with a certain amount of money. Example: $100 for a day vs $5000 a day. You see what kind of food you get per day and what transport u use and stuff
Up
I like that idea, but maybe they could expand upon your idea, like instead of just a day try a week or somewhere along that, because with the day you can;t see the aftermath of the next day of spending too much or too little, I think a week would be a lot more impactful.
800$ for that honestly seems worth it for a meaningful and deep tattoo
I didn’t like the Body Electric tattoo. It looks faded and just a blob of grey and black. The rest were great.
I guess this is why it was so cheap for that tattoo size and shading. But it's okay
I think the elevator itself looked OK but the rest sucks.
Yeah it looks like space garbage. 400 is way overpriced and that guy needs to learn to tattoo

Alroytt eww I didn't think about that
It would have been even more interesting if you used the same concept for all the 3 tattoos, and see which one turns out to be the best. You can't really compare 2 tiny stars to a half sleeve tat.
for how pretentious that last guy was the tattoo wasnt done very well.
I know right, the actual tattoo looked nothing like the paper version lmao!
I agree!
I think he rushed it. At the very end of the video before it ends he says he would normally do it in a couple of sessions.
I loved it ☺
Have someone else do the tattoos so he can get better? That's not how it works
I agree! I noticed a few wobbly lines and things that weren’t quite perfect but his art was absolutely incredible

☢ ᴅᴠᴅ ᴘʟᴀʏᴀ ☣ Steven he chose the stars place because they seemed the most gentle if he ever got a tattoo, which he said won't. But that's not the place the guy that got the tattoos picked--he picked the $800 place!

I was set on fire by gasoline so I know what real pain feels like.
