The elderly couple down the road has given me all of their pears for the last 3-4 yrs. I make pear butter with this recipe 😋
ONE of the GREATEST sounds I enjoy. The POPPING sound of a jar sealing!!!
Thank You for the video!!!
I prepare my apple butter like my mom , grandma etc did.
Cook it overnight in a large roasting pan in the oven.
Since I live off grid I actually use my gas grill, with a paver over grid set to lowest temp on the 2 outside burners to do apple butter.
HINT : for a wonderful flavor during last part of the process i put soaked wood chips wrapped in foil poke holes in foil to add hint of smoke flavor. I have also added apple brandy, regular brandy etc in place of some of the liquid. It turns out great
I love the way you explain this. Thank you!!! I am making them soon.
This looks so good. I will be making some. Ty for the recipe

Hi Carol, I wanted to write to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. You should be very proud of this channel and the way you teach people your craft. I've made some mistakes early on, dump a lot of food because I followed the wrong avice.Thank you for making Safety a Priority. I made your Cajun beans,Christmas jam they both turned out amazing. I am looking forward to making some tasty gifts to give at Christmas!😍
I’m making pear butter in my crockpot right now been cooking since yesterday. This will be my first canning attempt.🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
This is first time to can apple butter. I looked at quite a few channels. Your looks easier. I don't know how good mine is. So I going to use your video. Great video.
i'm sort of new to canning about 7 yrs so I am still learning all i can, and i've been canning pear butter past few years so some of your info here i will incorporate with all my other info i learn from other sources to make the best product i am able, thank you
I just love to watch your videos. You always give the right amount of directions to follow (makes it so easy to write instructions as I watch). Have never succeeded before with apple butter. But will try this tomorrow when I get my apples. Thank you!
Isabeau Skorski just FYI you can also find all the important info (recipe etc) in the description box below my video if you miss something while watching 😉😍
thank you, appreciate all the info!! Very new to all this. I'm wanting sugar free...so surfing everything. It looked beautiful :)
Paula Wilson you can use Splenda to sweeten if you prefer. Here’s a recipe fro the National Center For Home Food Preservation nchfp.uga.edu/how/can_02/apple_butter_reduced.html 😊
Thank you
Apple butter is my absolute favorite thing in the world! I've never made it but I will definitely be using this recipe to make it! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Tina R glad to see you 💕
I'll be making this apple butter later this week. Your canning tutorials are so good and easy to follow! And I'd like to add that I appreciate how clean and uncluttered your kitchen is. I have to quit watching tutorials on other channels because their kitchen just turns me off, but yours always appears spotless.
Julie Slack thank you so much! I don’t like clutter either 😉😍
I can't believe it! I was just thinking about apple butter in my pantry! GMTA!!
THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! GREAT Video . So sweet of you to take the time to show the knob!!!!!!!! I will feel more safer now when I do mine. Going to try your recipe. I got that pot for my birthday. Was afraid to use it because of the knob. Not now!!!!!!!
Mare's Okey-Dokey Homestead you will love that pot! 😍
Hi Carol! Thanks for another delicious recipe!! I just bought the “Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving” at the farm store near my sister. I love it. It has so much great information about preserving.
I got about 15 lbs of different apples yesterday so will be making some of your apple recipes.
Thanks again for sharing so much in your videos. I love them all.
kimberly nance you’re so sweet! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻💕
Yum!! 🍎😍
I like to make apricot butter in addition to pear butter and apple butter. I find putting a little regular butter in the apricot gives just enough richness.
I just made this 💕 I needed a little extra brown sugar to taste. I managed a tart apple in there some where lol. But, I love this. I can't wait to surprise my husband with this!
Can you add white sugar to this?
Thank you so much, you must be a non sleeper like me. I appreciate your wise teachings for safety. I did the same thing, when I taught myself from the Internet how to can. Now I stick to the books to be safe.
Norma Spande yes, sleep is not my strong suit lol... Safety is really important to me. I feel very responsible for what I share on my channel. Especially for those who are new to canning 😉
I LOVE 🍎 Applebutter and it's so hard 2 find. I'm researching various recipes to try.......😋
Years ago my family had an elderly gentleman friend who made his own apple butter, but he did it on a wood burning stove, which is how he cooked all of his food because he didn’t have an electric stove (and didn’t want one). I LOVED his apple butter and the store bought stuff just doesn’t taste as good. Thank you for your video!
Bella Bella you’re welcome 😊
Super cute shirt!!! I want it!!
thank you xoxo
I just subscribed to your channel. I think it's the best one on UA-cam.
HappyDays awe... thank you so very much! 💕
sometimes add pears to to many so tasty thank you
I just made your recipe and absolutely love it, it is that beautiful rich brown like the apple butter from my childhood.
Is there anything you would add or do differently? sounds good
Just found your channel. I really like your speaking style and personality...and lovely kitchen! You're a great conversationalist. Some channel hosts speak in a sing-song, almost monotone fashion with their last syllable always spoken higher. Glad to find you! New sub.
Let It Roll welcome! So glad you’re here 💕
Thank you Carol! You just spent a couple hours with me as I made my first batch of applebutter. I got the same amount you did - 5 jars plus a couple tablespoons left over. Super yummy! Am hoping to give these as Christmas presents but they may never make it out of my house, LOL
Apple butter actually relieves my menstrual cramps and helps make my periods much more bearable. Go figure. Maybe it's the spices. My gynecologist doesn't believe it, but my husbands do. They have to live with me and know what a bear I can be at that time of the month if I don't have my apple butter. Great video. I will try your recipe.
I like to throw a little molasses in my apple butter. Good video! Thank you.
I have some friends that make apple butter in a large copper kettle over a fire outside around 400 to 500 quarts they sell it just the best
Just make my first batch of apple butter oh my it turn out so good ty so much for all your yummy recipes?Do you have a Peaches Butter recipe ty so much

My mother made apple butter, many moons ago. so this recipe has me wanting to duplicate it. Many thanks
I came across your videos a few days ago and now I am hooked! I use the water bath method and have been trying to find a steamer...I clicked on your link and Amazon says not currently available! ugh!! Well, I will do the water bath again until I find a good one :) I am trying the Apple cider molasses this weekend! Off to find my Amish cider! Thank you for being great at instructions without the chatter
Sherry K hi! It’s become a popular item. Out of stock most places BUT here’s a link for it in stock www.fleetfarm.com/detail/victorio-20-qt-multi-use-stainless-steel-canner/0000000304666. You will Love the Apple Cider Molasses... soooo good! Thank you for watching and supporting my channel 💕Carol
Very informative. Have you made peach butter before (small batch). I’m currently binge watching your canning video’s…I appreciate you❤️
Thank you 💕
I can smell it from here! I have to make some soon. By the way, I love your blouse! Where did you get it?
i LOVE your hair!
Thank you 😊
@@carol-thriftychichousewife6231 So welcome :)
@@carol-thriftychichousewife6231 So very welcome ♥
I’ve really been wanting to get into canning but I don’t want to do the pressure canning method. I really like your steam canning pot and I’ll look into getting something like that.
Bella Bella just know there are certain foods that MUST be pressure canned. Only fruits, jams, jellies and acidified foods such as tomatoes and pickled foods can be safely water bath or steam canned 😊. Meats, veggies, beans, soups and stews must be pressure canned.
Thrifty Chic Housewife thank you. I’m a very newbie to anything canning and I’m thinking of getting serious about doing it. Thank you for your comment because that’s important to know and actually helps me.
I love the cute pads you put your jars on. What are they called and where did you get them? I absolutely love watching you and your videos. I just found your channel.
Hi Sheri Parnell! Funny enough, they are just dish drying pads. I purchased them at my Meijer in the kitchen textiles section 😊. Thank you for watching and supporting my channel 💕
Do you have a peaches butter recipes I just made the apple butter it is so delicious ty
Watching in 2023❤
5 lbs after peeled and cored or 5 lbs pre peeled and cored? Thanks!
Can you use golden delicious apple
What mascara do you use?? I love your makeup! 💕💕
Thank you... Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara 😊
When do you start heating the canner up? Anyone?
Lovely simple recipe, thanks! I'm being gifted so many apples by a lovely new friend(LOL, young man purchased an older house, gave me apples, I made the Amish apple pie filling then made him indivual apple crisps, then, uh, he asked if I would like his neighbors apples too...yikes!). I need more options for canning...What does everyone use their apple butter for?
It’s great on biscuits or toast, in pancake batter or as a topping for pancakes or waffles. There’s a recipe for a apple butter quick bread I want to try soon.
In place if cranberries sauce with chicken or turkey or duck.
I use apple butter for toast mainly. Also ice cream or yogurt .
I just used your recipe to can pear preserves. I just left out apple juice. Thanks.
I like to use my crock pot.
Thanks for this recipe! I only have 12oz jelly jars would the processing time stay the same or increase?
Moonchild the same 😊
I am definitely making this looks so good!!! I am looking for a good immersion blender and I seen yours what make is yours pls
Donna Burbo hi! Mine is Kitchenaid. I’ve had it a number of years and it works great! 😍
Thrifty Chic Housewife thankyou
Hi Carol, thank you for your excellent videos. Your videos make me want to start canning even more. I’m waiting for my All American cannier to arrive in January. One question - can I substitute brown sugar with either organic honey or organic maple syrup for this apple butter recipe? Also, can I substitute white sugar with either organic honey or organic maple syrup for the syrup for canning fruits like pineapples?
You can safely substitute one sugar for another sugar. 😊
Thank you Carol 😊🙏👍
can I use red delicious apples for this? will they cook up right? I love your videos. I'm just learning how to can and this seems it might be a good one to try for beginners.
I’ve never tried red delicious
@@carol-thriftychichousewife6231 Red delicious apples works perfect. I just took it out of the canner and it tastes amazing. Thank you for the recipe and video. Helped me so much.
I ordered a canner today thanks to your recommendation. I ordered the small one that only steam cans. When watching tube I learned to can meatloaf. After doing so I also learned that canning meatloaf is not safe as it’s possible the process will not go completely into the center of the loaf. Any thoughts on that? My full cans sit in my storeroom as I am afraid to eat them , yet hate to waste the food. But I have not read anything that gives me the proof they are safe to eat. The canning books say only to can ground meat, or small meat balls.
,
Norma Spande hi! I’m glad to hear you ordered your canner, so exciting 😍. As for the meatloaf, I agree it’s questionably safe to eat. I’m not one for wasting food but I’d also be afraid to eat it. It makes me so mad to see what people share on social media as safe for canning. I also made things I saw others make only to find out it wasn’t safe. Now I confirm everything before I can it and use only trusted recipes. I can’t tell you what to do with your meatloaf but I’d be afraid to eat it 😞. It’s just not worth the risk. Hugs and blessings to you 🥰
Yowza!
Can I let the apple butter simmer for a much longer time (3 or more hours) to concentrate more and bring out more flavor? Or does it not change much with the extra simmer time or damage the food?
Thank you for your video,
It's very helpful! I'll be using this recipe
Alexis Melero you may cook the apple butter for as long as you wish or for your desired flavor 😊
Thanks!
So, to be sure, the cooking times are the same for this recipe with a pressure canner and a water bath canner?
Much love!
Megan Smith yes, once you start timing adjust your heat to JUST MAINTAIN the boil. You don’t want it to boil ferociously the whole time 😊
Awesome!! Thank you so much for getting back with me!
Hello ~ I am a new subscriber and I am really enjoying your videos. Could you please provide me with a link to the stock pot you used ? Thank you so very much !
I’m sorry I don’t have a link. I’ve had that stockpot for a long time. It’s a 6 quart All Clad stainless steel with copper. It’s similar to this one amzn.to/3mJpcMM
I am making this but need to use pint jars how long to water bath them please Thanks
The same, 15 minutes
I’m fairly new to canning and I have a pressure canner. Would I process them for 15 minutes also and what psi would your recommend? Thank you.
You can’t pressure can apple butter
Jam difference?
Hi, I want to make some apple butter for gifting!! I have never canned apple butter, this is probably a silly question, what are saucing apples?
Apples that break down easily when cooked. If you google it you can find a list of varieties
Did you say apple cider or apple cider vinegar? Can I double the recipe? Thank you. Can't wait to try this!
Apple cider and yes you can double
Thank you!
Was wondering, did you peel the apples before you chopped them?
Yes
wont that stay shelf stable for long time being its got lot of sugar in it >???
How would I adjust the water bath time if I use quarter pint jars?
Would there be any difference?
You cannot adjust processing times. Use the same time for the smaller jar as the 8oz
Thank you so much!!!! Im new to this 💜
How long does the water bath canned apple butter keep?
2yrs
Will it still be good without cloves? My husband does not like cloves.
Yes
my apples were extremely juicy so should i remove some of the juice? i added 1 cup apple juice probably have 2-3 cups of juice in pot once everything was all done cooking, this is for applesauce !! sorry just realized im watching your apple butter video
i just cooked it for 10 more min. and a lot of juice is gone, thank goodness, lol i cooked apples for 30 min.
Does it hurt any to double the recipe to make more at a time?
White Pine Homestead no as long as you double every ingredient 😊
Have a serious question just watch a lady can pineapple upside down cake. She did pint wide mouth jars added pineapple ring and cherry filled the jar halfway with cake batter and cooked. When they came out she put lids on and said that they would seal and be shelf stable, is this true?
Desire Love great question and I would say absolutely not! First of all baking in canning jars is NOT recommended. You can confirm this on the Ball/Kerr canning products website. Secondly, safe canning must include using tested times and procedures. Third, there are only 3 methods of canning deemed to be safe...pressure canning, water bath canning and steam canning. It makes me sad to know these kinds of things go on in the canning community. You are right to question. Whenever you watch a canning tutorial (including mine) you should be able to confirm the processes and procedures being shown line up with safe canning guidelines set forth by the USDA. 😊
