Yes Metallic for sure or a color with alot of pearl. Just make sure its dry to yhe touch and be gentle with it and not scrub real hard and you'll get a better job. Depends on the clear I like to wait a week to cut and buff this 2002 but it stays pretty soft. Now I have shot some clear you have to cut it the next day. Check the manufacturer recommendations. Thanks for watching!!
Hello AC, been learning from your great videos. Now I’m finally ready to start spraying my project 71 Vw camper van. I will be using PPG 2021 Clear with the DCX61 hardener. I will be spring in an inflatable booth on my driveway. The temperature range I will try to spray will be between high 60’s to high 70’s. Will the DT895 hot temperature reducer be a good choice? I will break the job in about 4 sessions due to the amount of panels plus the outside and partial interior and engine bay. I was told the 2021 clear dries almost to slow to use outside of a heated booth. Do you advice getting the PPG brand reducer or can you recommend a replacement that will do the same job. Thank you for your advice!
I like to keep a med or slow reducer at the shop at all times . Hang you a thermometer inside the booth because ive heard the sun can cause the temp to jump up pretty fast. I think you are smart for breaking it up, makes it a lil easier. I think youll be good with the slow as long as its not cooler than 65 degrees. The ppg reducer is pretty good and they recommend sticking with there brand but I use grow brand and knock on wood I haven't had any trouble. Now take that with a grain of salt lol. I dont want your paint job blowing up because of my suggestion lol. You cant go wrong with ppg. Hope this helps have a great day!!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage thanks for taking time to answer my questions! I’m definitely applying what I learned from your videos!👍 I will be spraying in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Hi Chris, Beautiful Man! I noticed there appeared to be a lot more over-spray with the clear then the base coat and your eyes were more irritated with the clear. I'm wondering why? To me it seemed like the booth was not pulling the clear over-spray out adequately. Have you ever used goggles or a full face mask? Thanks!
Thanks ,yeah the booth probably needs a bigger fan, I dont think it moves enough air for the clear. For some reason that clear just lingers around worse than the clear.Yeah my eyes was on fire lol. Id like to get one of those full face respirators, but I usually only paint 2 cars a year. Thanks for watching!!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage Thank you for the videos. Really fun watching a professional. The car is going to be a show stopper when its done. Do you do everything on the restoration including the mechanical and interior? Take care Buddy
I think its Grow manufacturing, just a middle of the road brand. As for temp I keep slow med and fast on hand due to temperature change. When I sprayed this it was around 78 degrees so I used med temp, I think the med. Temp is from 65 to 80 degrees. So just use the temp reducer that falls closest to your temp your spraying in. Basically I use fast in the winter ,medium in spring and fall, then slow in summer!! Hope this helps!!!!
Usually its around 72 degrees.I use medium reducer usually. I try to match my reducer to the temperature. As for the time, I let the sealer flash and its not tacky no more. Then I spray my base usually 15 min between coats. Then as soon as the base flashes I start the clear process, and thats usually 15 minutes inbetween coats. I test between the clear coats by touching a taped up area with my finger, If it feels like a sticker and not wet or stringing off my finger your rrady to go. Hope this helps!!!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage sure does I just never used sealer before paint rep told me wait 45 minutes if temp is 70 on any sealer I buy that’s medium so always wanna ask more people as I just spray over different color used panel’s never match’s up because ground coat not a problem when I do body work then primer but sometimes I get used good condition parts sand with 800 base and clear don’t match it’s lighter or darker so sealer will help mite go with u pol primer/slealer cheap gallon kit $100
I'm trying to estimate how much base, clear and sealer I'd need to paint my 63 Impala (one color ermine white). Would you tell me how many (gallons / quarts / etc.) of base and of clear and of sealer you used to paint the 60 Impala? Thanks for your help
Ill try lol, I like to have atleast a full qt left over for touch up and if something happens later on. This car was fully painted ,jambs, under hood and trunk, everthing. We used 1.5 gal base so thats is 3 gal reduced. The sealer I think we used a gallon with a lil left over and probably 1.5 gal of clear with a lil left over. I put clear pretty heavy because I colors sand and buff everything. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!!!!!
at 9:30 when painting the inside of the door, where the door panel goes, why can't you guys paint that little bit in the center of the door? Does it really take that much paint? That is one of my biggest pet peeve. but very nice work otherwise.
One hell of a job very good
Thank you very much!!!!
Beautiful work! I wish I had a booth like that.
Thank you very much, this is a home made booth out of plywood and 2x4s but it works great!!
Excellent job thanks for tip on checking tack of clear I have been getting solvent pop on my flat panels on last two jobs
Thank you, it always has worked for me!!!
Beautiful painting AC, Well done!!
Thank you very much!!!!
Awesome work! You are a real inspiration.
Thanks brotha!!!!
Great job..... awesome car !!
Thank you!!! Yes it gonna be cool, hope to start putting it together next week
Praise God 👏
God is Good!!!!!!
Great video what is your thoughts on 1k sealer vs 2k sealer
I like the 2k better because its catalyzed and tends to hold up longer.
Nice! Do you tack between coats of metallic base as well? Also how long do you wait before the cut and buff? Thanks for the info.

Sweet! Thanks for sharing your technique, I learned a lot! How much clear did you end up using for those parts?
Thank you very much!!! I think around 2.5 mixed quarts, I tend to put more than I need since we buff everything

You could but not sure how long it would last.

what temp is youre booth at and what temo reucder you use for sealer and how long after you spray base and clear

How much paint & clear did you use for this project??
I think we bought a gallon and a quart of base and a gallon and a half of clear. That leaves enough for touch up!!!!
Thank you

Thanks for watching, alot depends on the customer, alot of them think your wasting paint when you paint hidden areas. My cars are painted all over lol
@@ACDesignsGarage Well, that's how I am, 'Paint all over', its not pretty. But I loved the video.
man i think you need new air flow filters lol
Lol probably do
