Toyota USA Screwing Over Toyota Japan - Critical 2024 4Runner

  • Where do we start? Corporate Shill channels on UA-cam hyped up Toyotas latest round of engine destructing poor quality build round of new trucks the Tundra, Tacoma and Sequoia not to mention the Land Cruiser and GX550 to name a few and will take no responsibility for being Corporate Shills that tricked so many into purchasing sub par vehicles with huge price increases. Now we are at the point that there are very FEW 2024 5TH GEN 4Runners to purchase new. We talk about all this in this video. Woke Toyota USA would rather invest in a DEI Race Program and being woke over adhering to the principals and values that made Toyota Japan Great, Toyota USA and overall Toyota Truck branding is irreparably damaged in North America by having the wrong people run the ship.

We bought 23 in August last year and it had just 1 mile on it. We are so fond of it. I just hope nothing happens like an accident to where need another vehicle as won’t get turbo or hybrid crap. We are 68 and have always bought new vehicles. We still have 89 Chev 1500 4WD we bought new 35 years ago last month. We bought a used vehicle once in 80’s and it was a Dodge pu and won’t make that mistake again on either part. New vehicles today aren’t worth buying. If we need to replace a 3rd vehicle we have will we have to go to a Nissan PU to get a real engine that’s not the crap Toyota is now building. EPA is to blame we know!!! These people that believe the hybrids and turbos and worse yet an EV are not at all in touch with reality. The environment is not going to be saved from this. What about the financial aspect of these new vehicles. The hybrid replacement battery should be priced before buying the vehicle of any make. *** Just remembered responding to a video and didn’t mean to go off on that person at all. Sometimes I just get on a tangent and forget what I’m doing!!! Ha!

    Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I share your perspective on the big UA-cam channels like TFL…for example that David guy from “Automotive Press” always touting himself as a “former Toyota engineer”…and how he still “has contacts at Toyota, and the Tahara plant” blah blah blah…So viewers thought “wow we’re gonna get great inside info from this guy!” But as far back as 2020 he would come on and say “oh this is the last year of the 5th GEN 4Runner”. So viewers rushed out and bought it the 2020 4Runner thinking it would be the final year! Then in 2021 he again was like “oh this is the final year of the 5th GEN 4Runner for sure”…then he said the same in 2022 and 2023! So a bunch of his viewers trusted him…rushed out for no reason…and then missed out on post-2020 features such as trail cams, heated steering wheel, LED Headlights, Blindspot monitoring…when we could’ve waited for 2024 …the true final year! To get the final of the best…with every possible feature offered. Thanks for nothing David.
All those corporate channel guys…blabbing just for views. Just selling, or selling out.
Keep on keeping it real Terry 👊🏻

Having worked at GM I always knew he was full of shit with his baseball cap and off color shoes. You are correct, people trusted him like TFL as well thank you for your encouragement and support, your friends at ODTRP .

I had a pro on reserve that might be a ship right now, but I kept checking for deals like this. They were out there weekly, but this was the one that worked for me. Got it two months early, then sold my ORP for a decent price. Win-win. 👍🤪🏳️‍🌈

Does anyone know the total percentage failure rate of these engines? Is there hard data on this? The reason I ask is, I see all these critical reviews of the engine, yet my son, who works at Alabama's largest Toyota dealer, is not seeing these issues in his shop. I'm not saying that these engines are good, I'm just wondering what the hard data states.

Biggest problem as any car salesman will tell you is the insane complexity of modern vehicle electronics. This is why insurance costs are sky rocketing actually. When instead of trying to create wireless systems while working with Apple and Google instead the ICE 21st Century has tried to post up straight on against Tesla and been absolutely *ANNIHILATED.* Tesla remains the only honest vehicle manufacturer out there at the moment because the depreciation is *REAL.* Since Tesla still remains the only pure play BEV to in fact support their product ... and is expanding that support that the extant Industry still can barely fathom...serious buyers of what still is nothing more than 4 wheels and a steering are looking at Tesla. In the alternative another approach is to buy a hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicle because the safety considerations involved with such a vehicle are substantial indeed as many people have been killed already from trying to operate fuel cell forklift systems etc. although I think that system is far better now. There is a lot on the pure play BEV side that is far better now but the fact remains I agree certain people from pure play ICE are in fact literally going backwards with anything and everything...which in the case of Toyota is a great way to ruin a great thing. Meanwhile oil prices go through the roof again today so what the point of even having a vehicle anymore is is pretty hard to fathom at the moment. Most humans still simply walk to get where they need to go and why that's still not the best thing ever I have no idea.

    • @GooglePixelGoogle

Tesla has it's own bevy of manufacturing issues. My father-in-law was an engineer working on the conveyor systems at Tesla's Fremont factory. He was absolutly blown away with the amount of repairs that were beign done to cars in the shipping lots because of poor quality. Tesla's knee jerk reaction when issues are reported out in the field is to blame the customer. Since 2020 Teslas sales has dropped 8.5% year over year. This is mainly due to poor quality. With one writer stating "Tesla has bottlenecked and damaged its production capabilities and quality by keeping every aspect of manufacturing in-house-rather than partnering with third parties to help craft and manufacture components." Teslas are also not affordable, where is the $25k vehicle that Elon promissed? I can tell you, it was cancelled. One last note, what do car salesmen know regarding the "insane complexity of modern vehicle electronics"? They don't, they are salesman, not mechanics. I work on modern cars, the electronics are NOT insanely complex.

A few things, one is we have a chance this November to put Trump back and all this high oil price and inflation will change for the better. Two, this I know for example Powertrain within GM has a majority of the political power and they are not shutting down their ICE production lines. Three, car salesmen have nothing to do with vehicle design and engineering. Four, we renegotiated our 4Runner and now pay 124 dollars less each 6 months. Top Tip, tell your insurance company your vehicle is a pleasure vehicle to save money.

I had opposite experince with 2008 IS350. Fun to drive for sure but it was burning oil excessively after 100K or so, had to add 2 quarts every 1,500 to 2000 miles. Dealer told me engine replacement is the only option. I didn't wanted to sell or trade it in knowing it can't be fixed. Thank god it got totaled last year. Purchased 23 Rav4 xse. My 07 Tacoma still runs great after 307K miles though.

A lot of you guys have no idea what you're talking about. Honda and Toyota are AGAINST the push for EV's. They do not believe going full-EV by 2035 is even viable (which is what the mandates currently demand). They are being FORCED to go EV, and are require to do so incrementally by multiple governments. Ideally, Toyota and Honda would both be selling hybrids to go alongside their petrol-based vehicles.
Part of meeting the EV requirements of various jurisdictions is to increase the MPG's of their petrol vehicles. That tends to me smaller engines with turbos. Doing so also helps reduce the amount of EV's Toyota and Honda want to put out, which is a plus for them.
Toyota and Honda have been lobbying AGAINST EV mandates. These two manufacturers carved out their nice in the automotive market in two categories: Reliability AND affordability. And they dominate both those categories. A transition to EV shrinks their lead in those categories against other manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes, and American brands.
Again, you guys have no idea wtf you're talking about. You people should be criticizing the governments you live under, NOT Toyota ffs.

So you are not paying attention. Hondas and Toyotas always cost more due to quality and durability, you claim affordability. Small displacement turbos typically go bad, I don’t care who makes them. Can you say V35 and Tacoma 4cyl fast three times?! Thanks for your comments, people are fully aware that liberal left governments are screwing every over, which is why they count on ever throwing their votes away over only one issue Abortion. Sad but true.

Nonsense. We got over a dozen sitting in the lot here at my local dealer under MSRP. I love this guy how he claims like he's an expert on v8 over turbocharged v6. I'm sure he's much smarter than the toyota engineers. No youtubers knows the real issue here yet let alone a youtuber makes a video at the back of his 4runner with a beer next to him. Most people put it on blast after the fact. Well, that's easy...

It was a Starbucks iced teas AND the Tundra disaster speaks to the Toyota engineers who should be held responsible. The real issue is lousy engineering, failed main bearing seals, and terrible design combined with terrible dealers and poor build quality. You make an awesome a hole.

@OnDownTheRoadProductions I rather be an a hole then misleading the public by making videos like yours. Collecting your data by reading and watching others' videos (which I am sure you do) on UA-cam doesn't make you an expert. Your statement of everything terrible on Toyota's design, dealership, and build quality makes you another hater with zero facts. I rest my case.

I'm still trying to figure out what a main bearing seal is. I know what a main seal is, and what a main bearing is, but I have never heard of a main bearing seal. If it's a main seal then it's not the end of the world, a seal can be replaced without having to tear down an engine. If it's a main bearing then that is a bigger issue. I will agree with other YTbers that state that you should not buy a first model year vehicle. I learned this in the 80's and made the mistake of buying a first model year Ford Coyote in 2011 (bearing failure at 120K mies). As a Quality Assurance Analyst and previous mechanic, I can tell you that the engineers will miss stuff that will only be found by the end user. You always hope that it's not a catastrophic failure, but honestly if it's going to happen then the first model year is the prime candidate. The wise decision is to wait a couple of years. I know that if you have what I call, car fever, it's a hard thing to do.
