I did the exact same thing on my 2010. I also had some of the nutserts turn. I took one of those three in one touch up paint brushes and painted the scratches in the bolt heads, around the nutsert, and the bolt. With the paint and then the clear it added another level of sealing. I have not had any leak issues despite all the rain we have here in Florida.

Prior to you pushing this one out, others I'd seen on how to do this were *bad.* For the record - the roof rack, step bars, and badging are the only things that mark that vehicle as the Z71 in the 03-06 model years. I'm personally a fan of the 03-06 MY Z71s because the roof rack and step bars give it its aggressive look (relative to the LS and LT models). Don't know if you care about the Z71 "footprints," but definitely keep that rack around - it'll only go up in demand among Z71 "purists!"
Way better without the rack !! I had an envoy long ago and the group I was in... some guys used the door moldings to cover the holes when they removed their racks. Looked clean and looked factory. Again looks good.

Looks good off. I have an 03 Tahoe lifted 6’’ on 35’s with a rack and it won’t fit in my garage but I use the rack for camping so I can’t decide what to do.
You should Drop that Tahoe and make a how to video would def help a lot for those who own those year Tahoe’s and you don’t really see those kind dropped

great video! i went to junkyard to remove z71 rack...luckily i made sure j had a 2.5 mm hex bit-saved me a lit of hassle. Question.. i intend to go back for running tubes as well...what size ratchet should i use...what size bolts. any help would be appreciated...cant find via google search. thanks

Yeah, unfortunately I have to haul stuff from the hardware store pretty regularly because my dad's shortbed pickup is worthless for anything longer than 6ft. So no rack removal for me. I do think no rack looks a tad better though.

I almost caught that trip on the ladder baammm right through the tahoe window.... That rack turned into a can a worms. Need whole dam toolbox of tools just to remove it. dang GM... Looks good though!!!! Even the Hefer across the street came to watch!!! 9:18 I also purchased some of the cutting compound need to use it on my white truck. Just a idea but the pillars between the windows would be cool if wrapped those in black vinyl were they flowed with the window.

I know this is old but, if I just wanted to get the large side bars out to repaint them do I need to remove all the Allen screws or can you slide them out just removing those 10mm?

The 2007-2014 Chevrolet Tahoe’s look good without the roof rack but the 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe’s look pretty good with the Z71 roof rack
