- In todays video we were going to demold and debadge the truck while waiting for new side molding to come in because my factory ones were messed up. Well as you will see in this video like many old trucks we got hit with paint issues under the moldings....

What a bummer. I agree though, those chrome trim pieces look good on these trucks. Looking forward to seeing the painted flares on it. Keep it up.
You should paint it the same color as your new gmc you’re getting
Hey Imfscrew just a quick tip use braid fishing line instead of that mono or floro that you were useing the braid doesn’t stretch and it also doesn’t break as fast keep being awesome and the amazing content.
I bought a new steam cleaner from Harbour Freight for $130.00. I've been using it to remove road tar, and using Goo gone on the sticky more stubborn things. It's been working great.
Had the exact same problem with the chrome moulding bubbling and the same problem when I removed it. Couldn’t find replacement chrome trim so ended up replacing it with black after market moulding. Started following you because we have the exact same truck lol

i feel like you should paint it back to black so you could keep the chrome trimming. also i feel like itd look really good with chrome mirror caps

mine did the same exact thing on the doors. i got new oem trim from my chevy dealer. they are pricey but they are prefect . i removed all the adhesive, polished the area and wiped down with panel prep and applied the new ones.
My truck did the same exact thing except I'm 16 and can't afford a paint job 😅 love the vids man keep up the great work
Not really surprised with old paint gremlins. Those moldings cut down on door dings from idiots in parking lots.
If you dont like the chrome easiest thing you might want to do is wrap it . Wont cost as much as a full paint job.
And doesn’t hurt as bad when a rock hits
My 06' Cateye has had it's problems too since I've had it. Last 2 trucks, not a lick of problems, but they were newer. It sucks but I feel your pain bro. Just gotta work the kinks out as they come. Love the content and honesty, I try to do the same on my channel.
Tip of the day fellas: zippo lighter fluid is the best adhesive removal product I've found.. even for super glue. Former owner of my 2021 chevy blazer rs super glued badges on my car and zippo lighter fluid took it off. Zero damage or effect to the paint. Take care all
Get it painted man!!! The black diamond would be awesome. On a side note man I hate that she has been treating you pretty bad. I believe you have to order these moldings from the dealer. Great video! Keep the Sierra content coming!
Sorry man, the same thing happened on my '02 Sierra when I took the chrome molding off. I heated the trim, used fishing line and it still peeled and flaked when it was removed. 20 year old paint so I knew it might happen..truck looks good though.
I have the exact same truck, same color. My hood had the clear come off and the same problem when I took off my chrome strips I used touch up paint from GM just tell she gets re-painted. Such good looking trucks but pretty sad paint jobs they came with. Beautiful truck man.
I used a heat gun , worked quick and easy....no problems ..!
the side molding pieces are on ebay , first thing that pops up when you type it in.

You could just dig a hole and bury it. That would be a lot cheaper lol. Idk why you’d waste money on painting that old gasser if you already have a new one on the way. Spend your money on making the new one the way you want. If it was a classic or square body, I could see it being with the time/money… Just my opinion.

Main reason I haven't taken mine off. The paint is trashed already, don't want to make it worse. At least now you know though.
That’s the worst, had the same issue on my 07. Best thing I could say it try and get the chrome off the pieces you have and color match them. But before touch up the spots that were blistered/chipped. Would look sick with that cts-v paint though! Best of luck buddy! Keep it up!
I would strip the chrome off those molding pieces and wrap them in carbon fiber vinyl.just an idea.
Or even just black. I hate chrome of any kind so I’m def bias.

Look into painting it dark spiral gray (metallic charcoal) I have it on my truck and it’s 🔥🔥🔥

Look on carid for the trim they usually have a lot of stuff for those older trucks

sand the chrome tape around it paint moldings black use black silicone around edges i did that on mine looks fine
How my paint was on 98 Silverado, I ordered side moldings from LMC truck and I'm just gonna lay and quick layer of black paint over the bad spots and replace the moldings
Should have took the trim off, pressure washed the double sided tape and then used the 3m wheel, pained the spots on the door and then plastic dip the trim black and then re installed
Deep ruby metallic is hands down one of GM’s top colors imo.

Lmc catalog did have them I changed the color match ones for chrome on my Denali

Lmc truck has them. I bought a used truck that someone has took them off. The new trim comes in a roll and you have to cut it but it’s just like oem!

Try Keystone for the molding. And dont put them on until you paint it!

I have black diamond on my Ram and it really is nice.
Would love to see a full paint correction instead of a new paint job… I think that would be super interesting and would better match the fender flares when you get them painted and would be cheaper that a full respray… ?!?!

Looks like a repaint is coming sooner than expected
Word of advice repaint the truck after you do the lift wheels rock lights bumpers ETC because it’s gonna be hard not to scratch or scuff the new paint doing those mods.

literally the exact same way mine went on my sierra, moldings started not looking good so i peeled them off and it took the paint right down to the primer
Nice clean truck i like the chrome it looks great. .can you use a front door Chrome and cut it to fit on the rear door

Why don’t you sand the trim, prime it then wrap it in chrome. It’s a little bit of work but you save/ it’ll look good

You could paint it black and then take a vote on what kind of flake you put in the paint.
Go Ryan Mayer style and have it painted some off the wall color that you don’t see on a daily basis

I wonder if the chrome bubbling, indicates a paint issue underneath. Like your front passenger side, wasn’t bad but the rear passenger was bad and bubbling. We’ll never know tho.

If you’re gonna paint stay black. You’ll never get a perfect paint job if you switch colors. Redo the black and add some flake and some heavy clear it’ll look perfect
