3:30 isn't really supposed to be "gross", it's a joke that since these words are latin, they sound vaguely italian-esque, so the "shchewpid other club" would think it's a pizza place whenever they hear it in a discussion (and it is a somewhat inflamatory topic in some circles, I guess)

17:21. "RTS MYJE NACZYNIA KRWIONOŚNE" is quite funny. But translation is very hard to English. Because "naczynia" in Polish can also mean "kitchen dishes". Not only vessels.

  • @tealobsession5663
    @tealobsession5663 28 днів тому +36

some of the translations there were pretty misleading, to clarify:
in vitro - artificial insemination, basically a method by which couples who struggle to have kids naturally do that, word vitro alone doesn't help there
frytki z cebuli - means they make fries/chips from onions rather than potatoes. (also double meaning coz we do use onio references as an insult in Poland)
joke about serious topics was mostly about how it was written, with the arrow pointing they forgot to add "w"
the Judas one basically comes down to him not being trustworthy and ŁKS believing his word
Naczynia krwionośne - blood vessels, word naczynia also means dishes, which you can wash, play on words here with naczynia meaning 2 diff things, it was hella clever
    everything else was fairly accurate.
your polish is getting very good Rob, keep up with it, it's not easy but we can see the progress you are making :)

Original meaning of "in vitro" (latin: in glass) refers to proceeding biological experiment or procedure in laboratory, outside the body. Other type of procedure is "in vivo" (l.: in live (body)), e.g. when you test a drug on living human or animal. Nowadays there is 3rd group, "in silico" (lat. in silicon (microchips)), which refers to computational simulations of biological phenomena. In Poland "in-vitro" is widely associated with procedure of human fertilisation . Because we have many politicians of medieval origin and catholic priests, that are trying to ban this medical procedure, everyone know the therm "in vitro", but mainly in its narrow meaning.

I'm going to repeat numerous comments over here, but maybe it'll provide a bit of explanation as to the etymology:
"myć naczynia" - do the dishes (lit. "wash the vessels")
"naczynia krwionośne" - blood vessels (lit. "blood-carrying vessels")
A very clever word play actually.
Now, I gotta say, you tackling Polish idioms and phrases and already having a fairly good grasp on them is very surprising, considering you only started learning Polish fairly recently. That is an achievement. I've been using English for 32 years as a foreign language, but it took me nearly 10 years of constant use and consuming media in that language to be able to start "getting it" in terms of cultural and linguistic references. You're on fire mate.
Next level: watch "Potop" without subtitles.
A level after that: read the book. In Polish.

RTS is an abbreviation of Robotniczy Klub Sportowy. RTS is associated with the Widzew district in Łódź. Widzew was an important European club in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It eliminated clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, MU, Juventus, etc. from the competition. Stars such as Zbigniew Boniek, Włodzimierz Smolarek, Józef Młynarczyk, and Władysław Żmuda played in this club. Boniek (Juventus) and Młynarczyk (FC Porto) later won the Champions League.

The history of this childish graffiti is quite interesting. They used to be very vulgar and anti-Semitic gfaffitis, but some time ago threre was movement among teenagers to wipe out nasty graffis from Łódź. Then our football fans started this infantile graffiti war, because these were not wiped out.

    Hi, Rob!
As I see it, nobody has explained it to you, what "para" in the word "paraolimpiada" means. It has nothing to do with the originally Polish word "para" meaning a steam or a pair - two things of something - para butów (a pair of shoes).
"Para" in "paraolimpiada" is a prefix coming from Greek and means: closely related to or involving substitiuton of what the main part of the word describe; closely resembling or associated in a subsidiary or accessory capacity, etc. That's why: paramedycyna, parafraza, paragraf, etc.
By the way: do you know it? Similarly like in English Polish words spodnie (trousers) or majtki (pants) exist only in Plural, e.g. if you want to buy one piece of them, you say: para spodni or para majtek.
But don't give up to learn Polish - it's complicated, but your becoming much better. I keep my fingers crossed.
And this video is very funny - I lived in Łódź for almost 15 years. And this kind of relation between RTS and ŁKS seems to be a neverending story...

    In order :
ŁKS is dipping their bisquits in pottee (pot tea but mean potty pot that babies uses for doing toilet and autoris suggesting they confused of tea cup and potty toiled )
Rts is making coca cola to appear seasonal (in therms they are rationing coca cola as a seasonal good to be used sparinly a special offer and they use the therm to season as limited time like year seasons or football season some type of limited time)
ŁKS thinks in vitro is about a pizza place (coz its latin therm basicaly and thats why it will be about some italian pizza place maybe not knowing therm that actually reffer to medical therm for making babies with use of support of "in vitro"
method that has actualy nothing to do with pizza but sound italian and some pizza place may sound like so)
Widzew is making french fries from onion (this mean basically that recipe of french fries made from potato is confusing them to use onion instea -as if were writthen they make mashed potato recipe with beans -in therm you hear simple recipe to follow yet you do it incorectly coz plain base for french fries is potato not onion )
ŁKS is making fun of serious topics -while writter is actually making fun of serious topic coz they brought that up at first place
Łks is confusing reksio and kretek -saying as is confusing mickey mouse and bucks bunny -they used local toons that majority will recognise due to exposition as a kid but there they dont even thou they r cartoons of 2 tottally different caracters from 2 countries and as you said not even same species - as if nowadays someone were seing baby shark video intro and start to sing i love banana banananana
RTS is not fasting neither do ŁKS - mostly i would say it reffer to friday fasing that is common to know -and writting that someone does not repect that sound like a shoot ina foot coz its not even wheter they do or dont follow friday fasting but either they respect fasting so added neiter Łks does is adding up to that as if someone sad sth unpropper and they were rating themseves up like if you as a kid swear and your response would be they swore as well
Widzew is squatting while peeing- said coz mostly as a guy raised in use of either standing to pisuar either sitting to toiled you wouldnt think of squating as a 1st option . Im mentioning what you were raised to vs what they are doing coz in different areas sth else would land like a joke using potty as example
ŁKS studies in Pabianice (where is no studies to be done)
RTS thinks that paraolimpics are about train racing(in this joke to understand the meaning of lokomotive in polish is necessary and is parowóz
    paro -steam
    wóz-wehicle
so due to that front in para - steam and olimpcs will have same meaning and root origins as previous word did equal anything para paro will relate to locomotive)
ŁKS is making corepetitions how to be dumbass- ineed selfexplainatory one
ŁKS travels by erasmus to Zgierz (erasmus is the student transfer program to travel to abroad to another countries so to say to use it to travel without crossing boarder is no use for it as pabianice is no place for education zgierz is no place to travel abroad)
Widzew sleeps with parents .(reffer to stage of kids that are afraid to sleep all alone in own room so they are sayin they did not outgrew that phase till now)
RTS had prom at a market -also supermarket is no place to have party like prom at
ŁKS is using water from making pierogi to make own tea.-morelikely to describe some unplesant water- you would use in a joke bathwater therm for example . This joke relate to that bathwater jokes but by saying pierogi water that have no use in kitchen after its purpose unlike pasta water that may be called for in recipe later on for further use pierogi water is never untill apparently they decided to save it for a tea

there is nothing funny about "onion chips" but the word "frytki" in Polish is reserved specific for potato fries. This is one of those weird word games that are difficult to translate due to lack of context. But the main joke in this meme is a strip of inscriptions in the report, according to which Łódź has a problem with vulgar and anti-Semitic inscriptions, which is illustrated by an example of graffiti that is clearly not anti-Semitic or vulgar in any way.

  • @cahica88

Widzew wears shoes turniped and they wear sandals with a socks (if you say velcro shoes it would be "buty na rzep" misspelling that out is making sentence "for turnips" its type of sentence todler would use by misspelling that out coz is one letter in difference .and they answer that out that they can afford velcro shoes but they themselves are one walking with sandals and socks only-which is another discussion for coz ppl walk like so coz is more comfordable yet to some look unlikely
ŁKS cause a fights with thoughts . (There is common sentence to fight with thoughts and morelikely reffer to have internal conflict of thoughts yet there as a roast therm may mean that they are wak fighters and this is why if they decide to spare for fight they fight thoughts coz doing that is safer than real opponent)
ŁKS is holding Judas for a word -
ŁKS and Judas have pinky promised -another example to not to do list as erasmus and study choice Judas from known past is not necassary a person to take word from.
RTS is washing capilary vessels-its like sayin -RTS is dishwashing blood platelets - therm of vessel is same word used for kichen cups and plates so just because platelets have plate in word have nothing to do with plates used in kichen and to be dishwashed. Joke to explain as blood platelets is easier to catch up to explain as what vessel would be coz noone uses vessels to put food to de table
