  • How to fight shorter opponents in Judo. Concepts are the same. I prefer to have a frame between our body because I dont feel comfortable hip to hip. AND you control WHEN to close the distance. That what it is all about for me. Choosing when. I think it is Dangerous being locked in hip to hip if you are fighting a tough opponent who has a Russian or a Mongolian style. Go for it if you know that position well. Lots of people like it deep in the pocket. It's a personal preference for me.

    At 6'4" and very wide framed it's always been harder for me to get my classmates who are a whole head shorter in position. This really makes it make some more sense as to what to go for. They're all brown belts and I just started also. Squirrely little dudes. Lol

    • @therandomnomad435
      @therandomnomad435 3 роки тому +2

      @@joeschranz4525 in judo height goes both ways. Shorter guys have moves thayre better at, likewise taller guys have moves they're better at. It all depends on how ypu plan your game, execute it, and most importantly, timing.
      For taller people, the best spot, I think, is boxing. Range and reach advantage is a huge one, (except that shorter, more agile guys somehow close the distance with their head movement's and take the cake. But the advantage in boxing, is generally for taller dudes. ).

    Since a large part of randori is about getting a strong grip: What are your tips on fighting stronger opponents (aside from getting stronger yourself)? I frequently find myself in the situation that my opponent just muscles out as soon as I get a slightly better grip/position, which is both extremely tiring and bad for your fingers. Furthermore in these setups I would lose the battle for the dominant grip in a 50:50 situation.
    I suppose that it is primarily about being faster than the opponent and denying the opponent any grip at all. But I'm unsure on how to approach this, especially in randori where you might not want to immediately turn in everytime you get a grip.

      Learn to fight for position! If you take the initiative, with first hand on, it helps a lot.

    • @jaymiddleton1782
      @jaymiddleton1782 4 роки тому +2

      cero that’s great!
      I’m a pretty skinny guy and can’t out-muscle most guys at my gym.
      But you can compensate *a lot* with grip strength. Climbing is great, you can also get a Captains of Crush Crusher to improve your grip.
      The grip is one of the most important parts in BJJ, I’m sure it’s the same for Judo. You might not be able to out-muscle people, but you can develop a vice-like grip that they can’t break.
      That’s my best advice! :)

    • @fullcontrol1519
      @fullcontrol1519 4 роки тому +4

      It is hard but you have to, i am 190 cm as wel, just do other throws, try to master uchimata so powerfull throw, harai , some combs with ouchi kouchi, osoto, many beautifull throws go into our advantage as taller opponents

      Nope. If you've ever been to a boxing gymn, you'd see powerpuff girls, skilled and experienced ones, jabbing the shit out of their opponents. And judo is more about leverage and mechanics than raw strength. So, even if she is weaker than him, it stills evens out.
