I remember seeing this ad when I was a kid. I was confused since I'd been familiar with the actor John Lupton from a western tv series called "Broken Arrow," and I wondered why he'd stoop to doing a commercial like this. Thanks for posting.;
Something tells me he worked in Air Traffic Control. Looks like daddy needs an asprin laced with Caffeine to make him feel good about the "dull-no-PC-takes a week to do a spreadsheet on a chalkboard" 60's
I love the Anacin commercial where the elderly mother asks her daughter if she doesn't think the potatoes need a little salt. Then the daughter freaks out and screams: "Mother please! I'd rather do it my self!"
Screen Gems/Columbia did rent out their soundstages to various commercial producers during the 1960's (Samantha's living room from "BEWITCHED" was used to film a General Foods "Great Shakes" commercial in 1966).
These Anacin commercials were part of a 1962-'64 campaign that always had someone snapping at their loved one {as in the famous "Mother, PLEASE! I'd rather do it myself!!!" spot} before their inner voice advised, "CONTROL yourself...". American Home Products {of which Whitehall Laboratories, the makers of Anacin, was one of their subsidiaries} was one of Ed Sullivan's regular sponsors, so this one turned up on his show [but not in "1965", it was 1963].
This also appeared on "THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW", as American Home Products (of which Whitehall Laboratories, the makers of Anacin, was a subsidiary) was one of his regular sponsors.
Anacin is still around,I always use it,aspirin is more natural than the 2 or 3 alternatives. The extra ingredient is caffeine, someone may have already said that. Now I have to find a coffee ad..:). And I loved Sue Randall, she guest starred often on "77 Sunset Strip" and its spinoffs.
Anacin's side effects may include dizziness, heartburn, irritability, nausea, nervousness, rashes, hives, bloody stools, drowsiness, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, and trouble sleeping.[7]
Caffeine was added since it helps get more of the medicine into the blood stream, and it also help constrict the blood vessels in the head, a BIG plus if your having a vascular (migraine) headache. Only bad thing is the caffeine just compounds the REBOUND issue, since now your brain is hooked on both the pain killer and the caffeine.
i wish there was a bazarro version of this add where the husband is making dinner and the wife comes home and flips out on him. and then the word "Tampax" comes up on the screen.
The husband is played by John Lupton who later went on to star on the soap Days Of Our Lives as Tommy Horton. The little girl looks to be Morgan Brittany who went on to star on Dallas as crazy Katherine Wentworth in the 80's.
Carl Howard I think it is Morgan Brittany. As a child she acted under her birth name Suzanne Cupito. In 1968 she played one of the daughters in the Lucille Ball/Henry Fonda film Yours, Mine, and Ours.
Carl Howard I also have also seen her in a episode of the Andy Griffith Show (color episode about Opie's first Love) and in My Three Sons, Love American Style.
Even though this was back in the sixties, when I was just a kid, he must have had either a stressful job or he just had a bad day at work. If he were my husband, I would yell at him,"Don't yell at me, Bozo!"
@amuslima99 It is with sadness that I inform you that Sue Randall (nee Marion Burnside Randall) passed away from lung and throat cancer in 1984 at age 49. Yes, she smoked her share of cigarettes.
Yeah he could have taken an Anacin allright. If that commercial were shown today, he could have not only belted her, one but he'd be arrested for domestic abuse as well.
@@briane173 I'm just so tired of people saying that "men should act like men" or "this is how you act like a man" like your a man! You are literally a man. Its all just fake rules. And yes I could use some anacin if it didn't cause intestinal bleeding like how it did to that woman in 1982

Yikes! I remember 'Broken Arrow'. I guess you are older than I am. Have a happy holiday.

If a guy came in and did that now he would wake up with a perfect inprint of a frying pan on his face.
Either that or a restraining order.
Peter needs this to get over his headache at the club
Family Guy brought me here
Hey, look! It's Hazel's kitchen!

This guy was Susie's dad on the soap opera "Never Too Young," on ABC, I believe.

You're welcome. Here's wishing you a good summer.
I saw this very commercial on The Ed Sullivan Show back in the day.
Don't figure out my age, LOLOLOLOLOL.
This also appeared on "THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW", as American Home Products (of which Whitehall Laboratories, the makers of Anacin, was a subsidiary) was one of his regular sponsors.
Back in the 60s when they didn't have to label and reveal everything, I wouldn't half doubt it. :)

Can't argue with that science!

So, what are the bad side effects?

hooked?? hooked??
wow
it's only 2 pills twice a week. hooked??
must be crack in YOUR Anacin. 🚬
Mine only has asprin and coffee.
This man probably needs more than Anacin - - He needs ZOLOFT!!!
Nah...Klonopin, Xanax or Valium would be more efficient...and perhaps a bit of weed on the side.
@@02chevyguy LOL!!!!
Anacin is still sold at CVS, FWIW.

+hoagie1978 Wouldn't that be something, if it was Brittany?
Carl Howard I think it is Morgan Brittany. As a child she acted under her birth name Suzanne Cupito. In 1968 she played one of the daughters in the Lucille Ball/Henry Fonda film Yours, Mine, and Ours.
Ohhhhh, that's right. I remember that now. I only remember her being in a "Twilight Zone" ep, although imdb says it was three episodes.
Carl Howard I also have also seen her in a episode of the Andy Griffith Show (color episode about Opie's first Love) and in My Three Sons, Love American Style.
She was using her real name--Suzanne Cupito, right?
And his wife on this spot (Helen) I think played Beaver's teacher on "Leave It To Beaver."
No wonder Ellen's having an affair.
"Don't make me go upside yo' head, Ellen!"
Reality TV before there was any.
The 3rd ingredient is caffeine. 32mg per tablet. Excedrin has 64mg per tablet, GET TWICE AS HIGH!
Red Bull in pill form.
Urine control again? Those are some serious headaches...

@fenian123 Caffeine, I believe.
He's a hotheaded hothead!!!
I saw this when it first aired in 1963. Back when I had empathy. I was heartbroken for the wife. Thought husband was a dick.
Thank God the guy made up with his wife. He certainly didn't mean to take it out on her.
Didn't wanna blow his chance to git some after the PTA meeting....
On 2nd thought, I think it's Ellen, not Helen. No high-def in 1965!
@amuslima99 It is with sadness that I inform you that Sue Randall (nee Marion Burnside Randall) passed away from lung and throat cancer in 1984 at age 49. Yes, she smoked her share of cigarettes.
What is the "extra ingredient", heroin?
@gummodude lol that shows on right now it inspired me to do some research which led me here.
It sounds like a 70's drug.
The "extra ingredient" is caffeine.

He feels better because he had a good, stiff drink!
lol Zoomer... yeah another stressed day at the O Haire tracon...those guys smoked like chimneys and dropped deard around 45
Do they even still make Anacin?
yes
Hilarious! What the Hell is the extra ingredient?
Meth
Acid
It's Helen; not Ellen.
He raises his voice, and that means he's violent? Really?
I don't get it. Why didn't he punch her?
Hmmmmm….off the market? Google Anacin
Back when men were men!
And what do you mean by that in particular?
@@siag2345 Where was your question five years ago?
@@boneholster7096 yeah so what if I am late. It doesn’t really take away anything from my question.
