Especially since Cinder didn't think anything was out of the ordinary.
This always implied to me that Vernal was a portal-bond too. She was the person Raven would use to return to the tribe. She had no way back to her people with Vernal in the Vault (and dead), so Tai was literally her only choice.

I don’t know the whole show, I’ve only watched these reactions, but. Salem makes me think of the Salem Witch Trial. Which makes me think of the Wicked Witch of the West. Which would go with Oz, Glinda the Good Witch, Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Cowardly Lion.
On the whole "turned into birds" thing, it's supposed to be Raven was implying that the bird transformation was forced on them, that's why Yang was angry about it, but Qrow explains that's not the case. It's likely that Raven did agree to it of her own will in the beginning but as she got older she began to change her view on it, as she became more jaded with their mission she started to believe she was just a kid who got manipulated so she looks upon it as something duplicitous she was tricked into accepting.
yeah, even if it's a power with no downside, this show makes a big deal of choices and the chance to make a choice for yourself - plus even if they did, it does seem like a silly, poor-taste thing to do with a limited amount of magic he has left, and ofc there's the "burden" of working for him that is why he gave them the ability. It really sucks that, in part thanks to a parody vid, people think Yang just hates birds or smthn.
I've always felt like Raven was angry because she actually DIDN'T have a choice, I feel like i could see old Oz having the mindset of "oh they're twins if one says yes that means the other one agrees as well" especially since they were both on the same team, that could ALSO be one of his mistakes he's made in his lifetime AND explains why he was so demanding with Pyrra to audibly SAY she agreed to the transfer before he was able to do it.

She leads a bunch of thieves and killers, but she just says its the survival of the strongest, she killed the spring maiden to gain her power, but it was just merciful, when talking with leo she tried to make it look that siding with Salem was the smart choice that betraying Ozpin was brave, when Leo himself says it fear and that she just traying to convince herself. I can see that see at first accepted the powers to be stronger, to be better, but when the weight of the responsibility, and the fear of Salem was too much, she saw that power as something bad, and twisted the the truth once more. We seen it at the end, when Yang confronts her, Raven at the end of the day is a coward that will take the route she believes is better for herself, she may feel shame or remorse, but it wont stop her from running away. Once again, this is just the way i see it, i may be wrong, but that scene with Leo for me is to show they're both cowards, only leo is honest with himself.

Yeah, it's one of the weird scenes in this volume. Your explanation is good, my headcanon has always been that it's stigmatized as a step towards becoming beast, with Grimm a step beyond that. Would explain some of the bigotry towards Faunus, too.
The Glyphs Weiss can make are from her semblance. She does not need her weapon or dust. The dust allows her to add element effects to her glyphs, same with how Blake can use dust to change the type of her clones. Weiss's weapon is not only a weapon but also acts as a wand for she can channel her attacks more precisely.
I love rewatching this after the maiden twist, because the attention to detail is excellent. Any time Raven would've used enough power for the eye thing to happen, she prepared for it by putting her mask on to hide it. This season has its slow, wordy points and weaknesses, but the care is still there, and when the dialogue is great its still great.
Volume 5 is kinda hit and miss to put it lightly. At this time a former Rooster Teeth employee who was one of those in charge of animation was crunching a bunch of the CRWBY animation team to work on his Gundam mech show. Volume 6 is leaps and bounds better, but ironically enough V5 was right around the time I got into RWBY, so even though it's not everyone's favorite, it still holds a special place in my heart.
This was the first volume of the show I'd seen week-to-week as it aired (i'd gotten into it about the back end of v4). I'm not entirely sure how I didn't drop the show, but I'm *so glad i didn't.*

@FixTheWi-Fi really? Because I remember them getting angry with Crow when he was trying to stop them from committing a crime. Them committing that crime with led to people in the town being scared. Then they destroyed part of the giant mech that protected the town. Jaune was not a good strategist in that fight for some reason. Then a leviathan attacked the town, and they didn't do shit to it. Ruby stunned it for like 5 seconds, and then it was cordovin who killed it. Then we have the fight with Blake and Yang vs. Adam. Where it continues the character demolition of Adam into and whining obsessive ex-boyfriend. He was not described that was in volume 2. They kill Adam which the story never brings up. I mean this has to be yang and blakes first time killing a human being and they are perfectly fine with it. Also suddenly adam cannot fight without his sword for some bullshit reason. Then bumble bee is the most forced ship in the history of ships. They barely interacted beside that on conversation in volume 2. Now, suddenly, they love each other. The ending of volume 6 soured me so completely on rwby, but what they did to ironwood in the later seasons made me stop watching entirely.

The music has and will always be one of the best parts of the show, not just the bombastic rock tracks with Jeff and Casey but like the actual score and background stuff, I love hearing all the little leitmotifs from the characters creep into the score during big moments involving them

You’re right that Raven wears the helmet to hide her own flame eyes from the Maiden powers - Vernal, meanwhile, whenever she pretends to use the powers, CLOSES HER EYES. Which would mean the flames don’t form, so no one from Cinder’s group questions NOT seeing it when Vernal ostensibly demonstrates her powers.
On rewatch, Watts is my favorite Salem henchman. Fun fact: some of the promotional material for vol 5 had the W of RWBY crossed out so us fans were genuinely worried she might die
Weirdly enough, I liked Hazel more. I don't entirely like how he was handled but it's cool having someone not blatantly evil in Salem's inner circle (I don't count Emerald or Mercury. They're more loyal to Cinder than Salem)
Last season Blake was depressed about how even her semblence was something she used to run away. In the last episode of this season instead of using it to run away she uses it to reposition and strike.
Honestly, I love these reactions, watching you all discuss how kermudgeonly old fans can be while saying that the new stuff doesn’t have to ruin the old stuff or that you should just watch something you enjoy instead is so nice, and seeing you all enjoy a show I’ve spent years with and have had some falloff with really renews my love for the franchise. I was watching two reactor channels regularly until recently. One were these guys being happy and engaging with anything they watch. The other was a guy who when watching Death Note began saying with a straight face that 99% of humanity served no purpose and could go into the book. I quit watching one of the channels for being a whiny edgelord. The other I am still loving.

@ Salem starts narrating then QROW takes over. So technically it’s both, QROW explains the kingdoms, Faunus, the SDC Salem did things like Grimm aura and semblances. It gives greater depth and meaning to certain aspects of the world they don’t mention in the series aside from the things we already know.
i remember going to RTX between seasons 4 and 5. i went to a rwby panel, and during the audience questions, one of the people asked "I think we'd all like to know, does Yang's new arm have a vibrate function?" the reaction of the cast was priceless. one of the highlights of the whole thing.

2:18:23 Definitely the highlight of this season for sure; If there's one thing *everyone* can agree on regardless of the volume quality, it's that Cherami Leigh (who voices Ilia) *nails* every single line. No hate to CRWBY but you can *tell* who had characters animated around their performances (the main girls/guys) and who actually does voicework as a career where that's not usually possible. Sienna Khan's another notable standout as well, especially with how vastly different she is from Monica Rial's usual voice casting. (I'd throw Watts in as well, but he doesn't get to *truly shine* until a few volumes from now)
I think season 5 is pretty great. It depends on what you want in a season, so I get why some might think this season is weak, but I liked that this season was more about growing our characters and the world. And I love how everything culminates in the big battle at the end of the season.
(MILD SPOILERS) honestly, between how dark and heavy season 3 is, and how nonstop insane basically the entirety of the Atlas arc is, i feel like a quieter, more character focused volume 4 and 5 were necessary
The reason why Sun doesnt use the gun-chucks as often is because nobody on the CRWBY knew how he did it, the same reason why they change animation programming when he died cause he was one of the only one who was an expert on it.
Hell, even Monty couldn't just do it whenever - it was an oldass rig from an animation he'd made way back that no-one could get to work in time for the mech fight in V2. Hence why the seamonkeys are just written out of it and Yang's semblance gets explained to someone who should know it It is legit amazing they figured it out again and brought I back, even for a short snippet.
why couldnt they just study nunchucks moves? there are plenty of videos about martial artist using two nunchucks, and if they're still having a hard time, they can just incorporate moves from arnis style fighting

Given you’ve watched Twilight of the Gods by now, you can see the parallels between Ozpin with Qrow and Raven, and Odin’s ravens - Huginn and Muninn (Thought and Memory). Ozpin would be Odin’s stand in and much like Odin’s ravens, Qrow and Raven serve as Ozpin’s spies.
i've always interpreted the "negative" aspects of ozpin giving qrow and raven their powers as him doing what he's done to so many others: feeding them only little tidbits of information so that they'll do what he wants them to do, without the full context of what those actions will really entail (in this case, a permanent, life-changing ability that he gave to them while they were still quite young). even if the power itself doesn't have any drawbacks, I can understand why raven would be distrustful of ozpin because of it, because it's very unlikely that he gave them the full picture on what that power would mean for them long-term.

I do know that Monty as far as it was talked about had multiple volumes worth of plans and he did even voice Ren as well after his passing his brother picked up the voice of Ren and the other people that were making this with him truly wanted to see Monty's dream come to full fruition. I think it says something BIG that the escalation of worst and most terrifying outcomes for Blake starts with HER dying - she doesn’t care! - her parents dying - that caused anger and horror - and then being in Adam’s captivity alive. THAT is the WORST part of it for her.
i think a lot of sections of season 5 are really good but a lot of it is setup and training and gets kinda slow so i can see where people are coming from, but i still found it definitely interesting enough to keep with it.
i will say its a bit unfortunate that for almost exactly the most important information dropped this season it happened to coincide with them telling a joke or something and not paying attention, it happened with the conversation about how old ozpin is, how semblances work, when raven said her and qrow joined to learn how to kill huntsman. im not blaming them cause its their job to joke around and be entertaining its just unfortunate timing.
The reunion of team rwby was such a big moment. Watching the volume like this all at once and with all these volumes released already cant really explain the feeing of waiting at least 2 years for the girls to have that hug ❤️
(At 2:43:11) At this point, NO she doesn't have a choice, because she's lost "too much" of her life. She can't run away from her problems like Blake did.
So, there was a decently outlined plan in place from the very beginning for the show that was put together by Monty and his team, the same team that continued to make the show. Obviously, any outline is going to be missing plenty of details and Monty would no longer be able to influence the development of those details as the show progressed. However, there WAS still an idea of what the show's arcs would be from the start, with certain Volumes that you've yet to see (as of this video's recording) being conceptualized way back when. There was a plan, as much as one can realistically have at the start of a longass show.
CRWBY did an amazing job honoring Monty and his vision they may have changed the art but they have said time and time again. Monty had key events planned out and they follow it to the best of their ability what happens in volume nine was supposed to happen in a different way, but they could not make it work. They still used his vision, but just changed how it happened and they’re trying their best and people are just wanting to find any way to criticize.
Not gonna lie when they did the fake out with Weiss a lot of people were pissed, full denial. Can’t say I was different. But as much of a dick move as it was, that was well played.
Ozpin said that his transforming of Raven and Qrow was of magic, but of a magic that was dwindling. He gave the majority to the maidens ages ago, but his current stores of magic are low by comparison.
It's so refreshing to hear you all take the show and have understanding for every season and the role it plays. I didn't realize that this was the "less loved" season either, because I had the same view you all did. Sure the fights would have been nice... But the build up for the plot is major here. All RWBY is good RWBY, fights or plot episodes. I binged all your react videos across two days, so I'm now going to be waiting eagerly for you to continue. I honestly love this season! I'm like you guys - I love the setup! I'm so excited to see you're reaction to volume 6 - it's one of my faves, but then again most volumes of RWBY are
3:32:15 So, while I am very much enjoying the catharsis of people without preconceptions coming in and saying "what are you talking about, V5 is fine, how is this considered bad?", there is one key bit of context that I think I have to acknowledge - the weekly release schedule. Remember that this final fight is being split up over 4 weeks, which killed a lot of the momentum, and gave people a lot of time to go back, rewatch and find things to complain about (for instance, the individual fights happening in the Haven academy foyer feel a bit isolated and disconnected from each other, there's a fair bit of people standing around awkwardly in what's meant to be an active battle). I agree it's wild to think about now, but there were *so fucking many* people who at this point in the volume were saying "RWBY is dead, this is garbage, anyone still defending this is an idiot" and *they were considered the ones talking sense.* I remember it being a wretched time to be in the fandom for anyone who wasn't on the hate train.

The way yall picked this show up so easily and catch on to the story that’s being told so well makes me, a fan since the beginning, incredibly happy and so touched that it’s getting the love and attention to the heart put into it. It’s deserved this for so long and seeing so many new fans on UA-cam where it began is amazing and just incredible to experience. It’s been a long road to get here and I just got a feeling, as a fan, that Monty would be so thrilled to see how far his baby has reached. CRWBY carried him with them through it all and vol 4 and 5 are my personal favorites because they very much portray the loss and grief and guts to “keep moving forward” that they all felt when they lost him. It’s a personal love letter from his people to him that they would in fact keep going, for him, for the fans, and for themselves and you can really feel that in these growing pains. I love them for it. If you guys want a real treat and haven’t yet, Monty’s UA-cam channel is still up. Dead Fantasy was the project he was working on before RWBY and it’s an excellent point of reference for what people mean about his work vs vol 4-6. It’s also just really fun to watch if you’re a fan of Final Fantasy, Dead or Alive, Tekken, or Street Fighter.
Wooo! More rwby I’d like to point out that it might be good to rewatch 1 season before reacting to a new volume, since you are doing it in a massive batch it’s prolly blurring together. There was a few stuff already explained or shown in previous volumes that a small rewatch before starting a new volume could help you from being too confused.
Make sure you check out the Adam short between this and V6 for the sake of that storyline - at the time it almost felt like an apology for how little he and another character actually did here... one I definitely accepted. Rewatching it here, this Volume's a fair bit better than I remembered, just felt all-over-the-place week to week when it was coming out. Suppose when you consider the production side of things, how much this volume was screwed over byu outside factors inc. budget, it becomes a miracle that it *wasn't* a dumpster fire.
I think the reason why they showed Oscar meeting Qrow twice was because they decided to make the scene a post-credit scene in V4 but when time to make V5 they realized that scene was too important to just leave it post-credits and a lot of people might've missed it
Yang this volume is probably my favorite bit of character writing She’s changed so much and she’s far from perfect which makes her feel so real and well written
I always got the impression the reason why Yang was angry about Oz keeping the bird thing secret was because if Oz kept such a benevolent thing secret then what else is he hiding?
Also some bleed-off from her mother's view on Oz, which she does seem to take into consideration. And Raven is probably secretly upset about the Maiden powers putting a target on her back. (She just wanted more power, not to be the only key to an object desired by a relentless force who "cannot be beaten"!)

They get mad at Ozpin for the bird thing and treat it like a moral grayness on his part but are completely okay with him assimilating this random kid’s soul I know it’s against both their wills, but why is the bird thing the issue the characters are hung up about
I'm surprised they haven't put together the characters based on the Wizard of Oz. I think they got the Leo as the Lion. There Leo, Qrow and Ironwood but all of them lost or don't have what they wished for. Leo lost his Courage, Qrow losing his mind because of Alcohol and Ironwood loses his heart. Oh and then Glynda Goodwitch literally her name. And after awhile I started thinking Ruby not just as Little Red Riding Hood but also as the Ruby shoes

I don't understand why some people hate RWBY so passionately, I do think it's not a perfect series, it has flaws and there's been some decisions made that I don't think were well considered, but I do enjoy it regardless, there's been a lot of thought that went into this series overall and I'm sure most can agree with that. Volume 5 was nearly phenomenal to me, the plot twist that Raven is the Spring Maiden made my jaw drop, it was so well done! I love plot twists like that. This two-volume arc of the girls growing and developing themselves further while being separated was a very slow one, but at the same time very needed after the fall of Beacon and I think justified. Volume 6 is probably my 2nd favorite volume after volume 3 and I can't wait for the upload! Also the subtitle track saying "furnace" instead of "faunus" one time almost made me choke lmao
I agree that you gotta have some episodes/seasons of dialog at times. Like yall said it can’t always be flashy and fighting all the time. These episodes essentially set up everyone’s foundations of their character which is crucial for everything that comes later.

On the whole "turned into birds" thing, it's supposed to be Raven was implying that the bird transformation was forced on them, that's why Yang was angry about it, but Qrow explains that's not the case. It's likely that Raven did agree to it of her own will in the beginning but as she got older she began to change her view on it, as she became more jaded with their mission she started to believe she was just a kid who got manipulated so she looks upon it as something duplicitous she was tricked into accepting.
yeah, even if it's a power with no downside, this show makes a big deal of choices and the chance to make a choice for yourself - plus even if they did, it does seem like a silly, poor-taste thing to do with a limited amount of magic he has left, and ofc there's the "burden" of working for him that is why he gave them the ability.
It really sucks that, in part thanks to a parody vid, people think Yang just hates birds or smthn.
I've always felt like Raven was angry because she actually DIDN'T have a choice, I feel like i could see old Oz having the mindset of "oh they're twins if one says yes that means the other one agrees as well" especially since they were both on the same team, that could ALSO be one of his mistakes he's made in his lifetime AND explains why he was so demanding with Pyrra to audibly SAY she agreed to the transfer before he was able to do it.

She leads a bunch of thieves and killers, but she just says its the survival of the strongest, she killed the spring maiden to gain her power, but it was just merciful, when talking with leo she tried to make it look that siding with Salem was the smart choice that betraying Ozpin was brave, when Leo himself says it fear and that she just traying to convince herself. I can see that see at first accepted the powers to be stronger, to be better, but when the weight of the responsibility, and the fear of Salem was too much, she saw that power as something bad, and twisted the the truth once more. We seen it at the end, when Yang confronts her, Raven at the end of the day is a coward that will take the route she believes is better for herself, she may feel shame or remorse, but it wont stop her from running away.
Once again, this is just the way i see it, i may be wrong, but that scene with Leo for me is to show they're both cowards, only leo is honest with himself.

Yeah, it's one of the weird scenes in this volume. Your explanation is good, my headcanon has always been that it's stigmatized as a step towards becoming beast, with Grimm a step beyond that.

The Glyphs Weiss can make are from her semblance. She does not need her weapon or dust. The dust allows her to add element effects to her glyphs, same with how Blake can use dust to change the type of her clones. Weiss's weapon is not only a weapon but also acts as a wand for she can channel her attacks more precisely.
I love rewatching this after the maiden twist, because the attention to detail is excellent. Any time Raven would've used enough power for the eye thing to happen, she prepared for it by putting her mask on to hide it. This season has its slow, wordy points and weaknesses, but the care is still there, and when the dialogue is great its still great.

Volume 5 is kinda hit and miss to put it lightly. At this time a former Rooster Teeth employee who was one of those in charge of animation was crunching a bunch of the CRWBY animation team to work on his Gundam mech show. Volume 6 is leaps and bounds better, but ironically enough V5 was right around the time I got into RWBY, so even though it's not everyone's favorite, it still holds a special place in my heart.
This was the first volume of the show I'd seen week-to-week as it aired (i'd gotten into it about the back end of v4). I'm not entirely sure how I didn't drop the show, but I'm *so glad i didn't.*
Leaps and bounds better until the ending scene in episode 9. Then the rest of the volume is hot garbage.

@FixTheWi-Fi really? Because I remember them getting angry with Crow when he was trying to stop them from committing a crime. Them committing that crime with led to people in the town being scared. Then they destroyed part of the giant mech that protected the town. Jaune was not a good strategist in that fight for some reason. Then a leviathan attacked the town, and they didn't do shit to it. Ruby stunned it for like 5 seconds, and then it was cordovin who killed it. Then we have the fight with Blake and Yang vs. Adam. Where it continues the character demolition of Adam into and whining obsessive ex-boyfriend. He was not described that was in volume 2. They kill Adam which the story never brings up. I mean this has to be yang and blakes first time killing a human being and they are perfectly fine with it. Also suddenly adam cannot fight without his sword for some bullshit reason. Then bumble bee is the most forced ship in the history of ships. They barely interacted beside that on conversation in volume 2. Now, suddenly, they love each other. The ending of volume 6 soured me so completely on rwby, but what they did to ironwood in the later seasons made me stop watching entirely.

Home's piano motif kicking in when Weiss hugs Yang is such a sweet moment.
The music has and will always be one of the best parts of the show, not just the bombastic rock tracks with Jeff and Casey but like the actual score and background stuff, I love hearing all the little leitmotifs from the characters creep into the score during big moments involving them
My favorite detail is that the last thing Ruby said to Yang in Vol3 is the first thing Yang says to Ruby here in V5, "I love you."

You’re right that Raven wears the helmet to hide her own flame eyes from the Maiden powers - Vernal, meanwhile, whenever she pretends to use the powers, CLOSES HER EYES. Which would mean the flames don’t form, so no one from Cinder’s group questions NOT seeing it when Vernal ostensibly demonstrates her powers.
On rewatch, Watts is my favorite Salem henchman.

Weirdly enough, I liked Hazel more. I don't entirely like how he was handled but it's cool having someone not blatantly evil in Salem's inner circle (I don't count Emerald or Mercury. They're more loyal to Cinder than Salem)
Last season Blake was depressed about how even her semblence was something she used to run away. In the last episode of this season instead of using it to run away she uses it to reposition and strike.
That's still technically running away, but it's a healthier way to look at it.
Honestly, I love these reactions, watching you all discuss how kermudgeonly old fans can be while saying that the new stuff doesn’t have to ruin the old stuff or that you should just watch something you enjoy instead is so nice, and seeing you all enjoy a show I’ve spent years with and have had some falloff with really renews my love for the franchise.

I was watching two reactor channels regularly until recently.

@ Salem starts narrating then QROW takes over. So technically it’s both, QROW explains the kingdoms, Faunus, the SDC Salem did things like Grimm aura and semblances. It gives greater depth and meaning to certain aspects of the world they don’t mention in the series aside from the things we already know.
i remember going to RTX between seasons 4 and 5. i went to a rwby panel, and during the audience questions, one of the people asked "I think we'd all like to know, does Yang's new arm have a vibrate function?" the reaction of the cast was priceless. one of the highlights of the whole thing.
I just realise in episode 5 when ruby says Oscar is nearly combat ready, she got sad because it reminded her of penny 😢

2:18:23 Definitely the highlight of this season for sure; If there's one thing *everyone* can agree on regardless of the volume quality, it's that Cherami Leigh (who voices Ilia) *nails* every single line.
No hate to CRWBY but you can *tell* who had characters animated around their performances (the main girls/guys) and who actually does voicework as a career where that's not usually possible.
Sienna Khan's another notable standout as well, especially with how vastly different she is from Monica Rial's usual voice casting.
(I'd throw Watts in as well, but he doesn't get to *truly shine* until a few volumes from now)
I think season 5 is pretty great. It depends on what you want in a season, so I get why some might think this season is weak, but I liked that this season was more about growing our characters and the world. And I love how everything culminates in the big battle at the end of the season.
(MILD SPOILERS) honestly, between how dark and heavy season 3 is, and how nonstop insane basically the entirety of the Atlas arc is, i feel like a quieter, more character focused volume 4 and 5 were necessary
The reason why Sun doesnt use the gun-chucks as often is because nobody on the CRWBY knew how he did it, the same reason why they change animation programming when he died cause he was one of the only one who was an expert on it.
Hell, even Monty couldn't just do it whenever - it was an oldass rig from an animation he'd made way back that no-one could get to work in time for the mech fight in V2. Hence why the seamonkeys are just written out of it and Yang's semblance gets explained to someone who should know it

Given you’ve watched Twilight of the Gods by now, you can see the parallels between Ozpin with Qrow and Raven, and Odin’s ravens - Huginn and Muninn (Thought and Memory). Ozpin would be Odin’s stand in and much like Odin’s ravens, Qrow and Raven serve as Ozpin’s spies.
i've always interpreted the "negative" aspects of ozpin giving qrow and raven their powers as him doing what he's done to so many others: feeding them only little tidbits of information so that they'll do what he wants them to do, without the full context of what those actions will really entail (in this case, a permanent, life-changing ability that he gave to them while they were still quite young). even if the power itself doesn't have any drawbacks, I can understand why raven would be distrustful of ozpin because of it, because it's very unlikely that he gave them the full picture on what that power would mean for them long-term.

I think it says something BIG that the escalation of worst and most terrifying outcomes for Blake starts with HER dying - she doesn’t care! - her parents dying - that caused anger and horror - and then being in Adam’s captivity alive. THAT is the WORST part of it for her.
Man, I forgot how completely Nick Landis just dropped into Piccolo's voice when he guested as that storekeep talking to Qrow.
i think a lot of sections of season 5 are really good but a lot of it is setup and training and gets kinda slow so i can see where people are coming from, but i still found it definitely interesting enough to keep with it.
i will say its a bit unfortunate that for almost exactly the most important information dropped this season it happened to coincide with them telling a joke or something and not paying attention, it happened with the conversation about how old ozpin is, how semblances work, when raven said her and qrow joined to learn how to kill huntsman. im not blaming them cause its their job to joke around and be entertaining its just unfortunate timing.
The reunion of team rwby was such a big moment. Watching the volume like this all at once and with all these volumes released already cant really explain the feeing of waiting at least 2 years for the girls to have that hug ❤️

At this point, I think Oz is the inspiration/author of nearly every fairy tale in Remnant.
So, there was a decently outlined plan in place from the very beginning for the show that was put together by Monty and his team, the same team that continued to make the show. Obviously, any outline is going to be missing plenty of details and Monty would no longer be able to influence the development of those details as the show progressed. However, there WAS still an idea of what the show's arcs would be from the start, with certain Volumes that you've yet to see (as of this video's recording) being conceptualized way back when. There was a plan, as much as one can realistically have at the start of a longass show.

CRWBY did an amazing job honoring Monty and his vision they may have changed the art but they have said time and time again. Monty had key events planned out and they follow it to the best of their ability what happens in volume nine was supposed to happen in a different way, but they could not make it work. They still used his vision, but just changed how it happened and they’re trying their best and people are just wanting to find any way to criticize.
My assumption of why the cage didn't clue Yang into the fact that Weis has been kidnapped is she didn't want to kink shame her friend.

Ozpin said that his transforming of Raven and Qrow was of magic, but of a magic that was dwindling. He gave the majority to the maidens ages ago, but his current stores of magic are low by comparison.
It's so refreshing to hear you all take the show and have understanding for every season and the role it plays. I didn't realize that this was the "less loved" season either, because I had the same view you all did. Sure the fights would have been nice... But the build up for the plot is major here. All RWBY is good RWBY, fights or plot episodes.

One of the big complaints about Volume 5 is the White Fang subplot just kind of ended too easily with just a half baked platitudes about racism.
The music that starts playing at 1:15:46 when Weiss hugs Yang is called Home. So Weiss was escaping from her prison to her actual home.
3:32:15 So, while I am very much enjoying the catharsis of people without preconceptions coming in and saying "what are you talking about, V5 is fine, how is this considered bad?", there is one key bit of context that I think I have to acknowledge - the weekly release schedule. Remember that this final fight is being split up over 4 weeks, which killed a lot of the momentum, and gave people a lot of time to go back, rewatch and find things to complain about (for instance, the individual fights happening in the Haven academy foyer feel a bit isolated and disconnected from each other, there's a fair bit of people standing around awkwardly in what's meant to be an active battle).
I agree it's wild to think about now, but there were *so fucking many* people who at this point in the volume were saying "RWBY is dead, this is garbage, anyone still defending this is an idiot" and *they were considered the ones talking sense.* I remember it being a wretched time to be in the fandom for anyone who wasn't on the hate train.
and there still are - it's frustrating to deal with them.

The way yall picked this show up so easily and catch on to the story that’s being told so well makes me, a fan since the beginning, incredibly happy and so touched that it’s getting the love and attention to the heart put into it. It’s deserved this for so long and seeing so many new fans on UA-cam where it began is amazing and just incredible to experience. It’s been a long road to get here and I just got a feeling, as a fan, that Monty would be so thrilled to see how far his baby has reached.
CRWBY carried him with them through it all and vol 4 and 5 are my personal favorites because they very much portray the loss and grief and guts to “keep moving forward” that they all felt when they lost him. It’s a personal love letter from his people to him that they would in fact keep going, for him, for the fans, and for themselves and you can really feel that in these growing pains. I love them for it.
If you guys want a real treat and haven’t yet, Monty’s UA-cam channel is still up. Dead Fantasy was the project he was working on before RWBY and it’s an excellent point of reference for what people mean about his work vs vol 4-6. It’s also just really fun to watch if you’re a fan of Final Fantasy, Dead or Alive, Tekken, or Street Fighter.

Rewatching it here, this Volume's a fair bit better than I remembered, just felt all-over-the-place week to week when it was coming out.
Suppose when you consider the production side of things, how much this volume was screwed over byu outside factors inc. budget, it becomes a miracle that it *wasn't* a dumpster fire.
I think the reason why they showed Oscar meeting Qrow twice was because they decided to make the scene a post-credit scene in V4 but when time to make V5 they realized that scene was too important to just leave it post-credits and a lot of people might've missed it

When I was watching this as it came out I actually screamed when the episode ended and Weiss was speared. (Weiss is best girl)
I rarely comment, but I just need to say the whole conversation about hating things at the 3 hour mark was *incredibly* well said.
Imma need to clear something up since noone ever really understabds Yangs Anger at the reveal lf turning to birds. The Way Raven phrased it leads Yang to belive that Ozpin forced it on them cause if you pay attention and notice when Qrow says we made a choice that it wad their choice she is no longer angry
They get mad at Ozpin for the bird thing and treat it like a moral grayness on his part but are completely okay with him assimilating this random kid’s soul
I know it’s against both their wills, but why is the bird thing the issue the characters are hung up about
I'm surprised they haven't put together the characters based on the Wizard of Oz. I think they got the Leo as the Lion. There Leo, Qrow and Ironwood but all of them lost or don't have what they wished for. Leo lost his Courage, Qrow losing his mind because of Alcohol and Ironwood loses his heart. Oh and then Glynda Goodwitch literally her name. And after awhile I started thinking Ruby not just as Little Red Riding Hood but also as the Ruby shoes

I don't understand why some people hate RWBY so passionately, I do think it's not a perfect series, it has flaws and there's been some decisions made that I don't think were well considered, but I do enjoy it regardless, there's been a lot of thought that went into this series overall and I'm sure most can agree with that. Volume 5 was nearly phenomenal to me, the plot twist that Raven is the Spring Maiden made my jaw drop, it was so well done! I love plot twists like that. This two-volume arc of the girls growing and developing themselves further while being separated was a very slow one, but at the same time very needed after the fall of Beacon and I think justified.
Volume 6 is probably my 2nd favorite volume after volume 3 and I can't wait for the upload!
Also the subtitle track saying "furnace" instead of "faunus" one time almost made me choke lmao

I agree that you gotta have some episodes/seasons of dialog at times. Like yall said it can’t always be flashy and fighting all the time. These episodes essentially set up everyone’s foundations of their character which is crucial for everything that comes later.
