I've always thought Rocky has the best ending in any movie I've seen. When Paulie lets Adrian into the ring and the fanfare starts, and the two of them just want to be with each other. That's what life's about and what everyone's looking for.
Unfortunately, we lost Burt Young (Paulie) late last year too. He was absolutely perfect as Rocky’s dysfunctional, loud mouth brother-in-law and needs to be recognized for his talent, skill and contribution to the Rocky franchise.
Not to mention Paulie, as a character tends to really get the short end of the stick, people never stop and consider things from the character's point of view. Like they get on him for the big fight with the bat, forgetting that Paulie had come home to his sister and best friend talking shit about him1. As Paulie points out, he set Rocky and Adrian up, he gives Rocky free meat (endangering his job), offered to help with the training and all he had ever asked is for Rocky to put in a good word with Gazo so Paulie could get a better job; and that's just the first one. Paulie isn't a saint but through the series he time and time again goes to bat for his people, at times when even Rocky doesn't.
I don't know, regardless of how messed up shit is you don't take a bat to your friend and sister. No excuse for that sorry. I don't care what his "Viewpoint" was. He attacked rocky against in a later movie as well...Rocky 3 I think. Dude is prone to violence and that doesn't deserve any excuses. So the fight ended with Apollo realizing he was in danger of falling down and holding Rocky tightly to prevent it. And Rocky instinctively hugged Apollo back to avoid the possibility of a unexpected sucker punch.. Anyway, great reaction and looking forward to seeing you fall in love with these characters and their journey!

Burt Young died recently. You had it with Mickey BE. Cool recall. Good health to all!
It was a split decision. Meaning one judge scored the fight for Rocky, and the other two for Apollo Creed. Unlike the subsequent Rocky movies, Rocky actually did well in this fight. Though just a movie, some pretend movie facts. Though Rocky went the distance (15 rounds, then the distance for title fights) Apollo, also went the distance for the first time. It was stated that ‘nobody had ever gone the distance with Creed before’. If that’s the case, then Creed never had to go a full 15 prior. Of course, this, also, was Rocky’ s first time going 15 since he’d never fought for a title.
Rocky Balboa is the greatest movie character of all time. I’m absolutely here for the Rocky content. Please go the distance and watch em all Rocky 1-5, Rocky Balboa, and Creed 1-3
Agreed, though I'd skip the Creed series, I feel like it's a cheap rehash plus there's some very real character assassination going on with some of the characters you know and love.
You were right cut men are there to get the swelling down and try and stop cuts from bleeding they’re not supposed to that’s why Micky has a awkward look around hoping no one saw.
They get even better. This series plays out like a dramatic soap opera. The characters grow. I don’t know if this is the movie you were thinking of with Burt Young, but I’ve seen him in Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield, a great comedy.
The cut man in a boxing match is there to help keep the boxers face and eyes from swelling shut, and to treat cuts in such a way to stop them bleeding. Cutting a boxer to release the pressure is rare, that’s why it squirts. It’s not allowed now, nor are fight’s allowed over 12 rounds. Most fatalities in boxing happen in the last three rounds, that’s why it’s only 12 now.
You re the first reactor Ive seen who actually listened to the Ring announcer giving the judges score cards and declaring Creed the winner. So well done. And yes, the bell saved Creed. But Rocky was also pretty punched out so he couldn't get that finishing shot in before the bell sounded. Critics generally agree that Rocky 2 is the better movie of the two. IMO I'd lean 1, but 2 is amazing as well.
Rocky 2 is my favorite for alot of reasons. The referee in the movie was a real fighter in the 40s and 50s. My Dad was also a professional boxer from Mexico and came to the US in the early 50s. Dad fought him twice and won. The boxers name was Lou filipo. We have have my dad's gloves from those fights and Lou signed them. My dad never was champ, but he fought all the ranked contenders of that time. Love watching your reactions!
The selling of his dog seems wrong though. I mean how much can you make selling your dog?!? Guessing he had to have someone take him in during filming.
@@igloo2158 I don't actually think it was about how much he could get for the dog. I think he couldn't afford to feed him. Dog that big is expensive to feed.
@@igloo2158Stallone sold the dog for $50 when he was still trying to convince a studio to pick up his script. After he got a deal to make the movie, he bought the dog back for $15,000. The turtles in his apartment were also his personal pets, and as of a few years ago, they were still alive and still owned by Stallone.
I just stumbled onto your channel. I love it! I can’t wait to go through the Rocky journey with you. Don’t forget to do the 3 Creed movies after the 6 Rocky’s. They are basically Rocky 7-9
It was never about him winning. It was about gong the distance. That was a win for Rocky in itself..He got the girl and his Pride and dignity ! Please please please watch every single one.
What makes this movie stand is the characters and the situation are believable and relatable. If Rocky won it is Hollywood. But we all know those moments where the odds are against the person and they put up a hell of a fight. This is why it is so satisfying. Everyone knows he is out classed but he fights against an impossible situation.
Yeah Gazzo was alright... at least as far as how he treated Rocky. Coincidentally, he was in Godfather 1&2 with Talia Shire, and Taxi Driver that Coby mentioned. He and Stallone were friends until they had a falling out during the filming of Nighthawks.
I really like the way the final fight between Rocky and Creed was filmed. It is filmed from an outside perspective of the ring, as if from the point of view from watching it on television, or as a member of the audience. It gives this fight such a real feeling to it.
It changed to 12 rounds in the mid 1980's after middle weight fighter Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini killed his opponent in the ring. I forgot the fighters name but he was a young man from South Korea.
the 14th round of this fight will always be my favorite round of all the Rocky movies..this won best picture because its grand, moving and had a perfect love story tossed into it as well as a subtle forefront..the way Adrian tells Rocky she loves him at the end is as chilling as the fight itself because its the first time either says it and it was fitting that Adrian said it first and brought it out of him..such a perfect end
Sorry, but I have never seen your channel before. It was so nice seeing someone young watching rocky for the first time. It reminded me of when I first watched it many many years ago, thanks
Even though Rocky barely says anything during the first ten minutes of the film, you already know everything about him based on his actions, facial expressions, and mannerisms. That's great writing by Stallone and directing by the late John Avildsen.
Carl Weathers was a linebacker for the BC Lions in Vancouver, Canada. He’s still remembered here. That was 5 years before my time, but I’d heard stories about him. Another guy who went on to bigger and better things after he got cut from the team.
you are right about Burt Young- 24 yrs after this Rocky film he was in that James Caan film Mickey Blue eyes with Hugh Grant. Stallone wrote this script and the Producers were looking at other actors that were famous like Ryan O neal at the time and Stallone insisted he should do it,and yes that was Stallone's dog in the film lol
When Mick comes to Rock trying to help him without looking like he was using him, but because he can see what's going to happen and Rock can only see how Mick treated him and belittled him for as long as he's known him to only have a big enough heart to let it go and he can't have that so he runs after him to apologize and accept his help...it always makes me tear up.
The mistake on the poster with his trunks was a real mistake. They couldn't afford to re-do the poster so Stallone wrote the mistake into the movie. Also Mick was telling Rocky to stay down so he wouldn't take anymore punishment.
So glad you began this franchise Gem 💎 Coby, you gonna love the sequels it gets better. And Burt Young was on "Carlito's Way: Rise To Power"(2007) that's the last movie i saw him in that he's a Mob Boss. Talia Shire is also on "The Godfather" Franchise & she got into filmmaking during the 80's amongst her late husband Jack Schwartzman one of those that's very memorable to me was "Rad"(1986) she's in the movie as well
That talk about three rounds started with Apollo. It's been so long since he became the world champion, and the last time he had to contend with someone who was able to last longer than longer than that with him was _before_ that. It's become the norm that whoever gets in the ring with him will be knocked _out_ before the end of the third round and the remaining 12 won't be an _issue._ So it really stood out to him that, come the end of the third round, Rocky was still on his feet. It stood out to him even _more_ as each round came and went, that he was actually able to go the _distance._ But then Apollo made history by being the first contender to actually break Rocky's nose. 64 fights Rocky was in, prior to this one. 44 were victories, but 20 were defeats. One thing, though, that no one had _ever_ succeeded in doing was breaking his nose. Not until Apollo came along.
These were sanctioned fights. But they were held in small time venues. YMCA’s, Boxing Gyms, local VFW’s and some churches had Bingo and Casino nights and some had Fight nights.
This was the very first movie that had a steadycam! In fact the steady cam was specifically designed for the Stairs Scene because they wanted to follow him up the steps and circle around him and end up behind him looking out over Philly!
This was the first movie I saw in a theater - I was 7 or 8 years old. One of the best movies I have ever seen. He nailed the feeling of the country, particularly in urban areas. They were tough times. This was Stallone's master piece. Caught lightning in a bottle the first time out. (Those are his words.)
Yeah, that was Rocky's dog, named after Hall of Fame Chicago Bear Dick Butkus. The turtles were still alive as of the filming of the 2nd Creed movie. The pet shop owner had kept them alive the whole time. They were 45 years old when Creed 2 was filmed.
I had the good fortune of seeing the Rocky movies in the theater. The Rocky movies had a unique way of pumping people up, and you walked out of the theater yelling Go Rocky! LOL
As a filmmaker, one of my favorite lines in the movie is when Rocky visits the Arena the night before the fight and complains about the color of his shorts on the giant poster. The Boxing promoter says "It doesn't really matter." There is a lot of subtext in that line.
And the colour of Rocky's shorts was a real mistake made by the graphics people and instead of remake the poster they came up with that incredible line to account for it that I'm sure was deeper than they ever first intended.
RIP, Carl Weathers Apollo Creed, 1948-2024. We love you, we miss you.

Thanks for a great reaction.
@@Zylthis agreed, but she should watch the first creed at least.
He won Oscars for this as well . Screenplay and best picture. As a producer
You got the character quickly.
Most reaction channels don't put enough into the real story before they show the action.
38:24 "what are you thinking about when that buzzer sounded?" Rocky: "ADRIAN!!!!"
Get's me every time
Wait til you see Rocky 2.
An amazing ending!!!!
Yes, it was his real-life dog .
Yes, the dog was Stalone's personal pet.
@@igloo2158 ~ Stallone was so broke during that time, he could barely survive.
Burgess Meredith stared in "Of Mice and Men." With Lon Cheney in the 30s, excellent movie! You should check it out. Excellent reaction!
If you're curious about Burgess Meredith, check out OF MICE AND MEN (1939).
What makes this movie stand is the characters and the situation are believable and relatable. If Rocky won it is Hollywood. But we all know those moments where the odds are against the person and they put up a hell of a fight. This is why it is so satisfying. Everyone knows he is out classed but he fights against an impossible situation.
Part 2 is the best one and one of the most inspirational movies of all time to me.
Such an incredible series & I hope you continue this journey!
I always appreciated that the lone shark character is nuanced. Yes, he's a mean sunnuvabitch, but he's also a decent dude and a good friend.
Championship fights used to be 15 rounds, but now theyre 12. I believe this changed in the late 80s or early 90s for safety reasons
It changed to 12 rounds in the mid 1980's after middle weight fighter Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini killed his opponent in the ring. I forgot the fighters name but he was a young man from South Korea.
Nicky told Rocky to stay down because Rocky took so much punishment and Micky didn’t want him to die.
the 14th round of this fight will always be my favorite round of all the Rocky movies..this won best picture because its grand, moving and had a perfect love story tossed into it as well as a subtle forefront..the way Adrian tells Rocky she loves him at the end is as chilling as the fight itself because its the first time either says it and it was fitting that Adrian said it first and brought it out of him..such a perfect end
Coby needs her own channel. Bless the hearts of the others, but she's on a different paygrade.
Sorry, but I have never seen your channel before. It was so nice seeing someone young watching rocky for the first time. It reminded me of when I first watched it many many years ago, thanks
The steps are at the Philadelphia Museam of Art. The Philadelphia Free Library is at the other end of the parkway, 1 mile away.
Glad that you will watch Rocky 2. 👍
Some people think that it is even better than this one.
Even though Rocky barely says anything during the first ten minutes of the film, you already know everything about him based on his actions, facial expressions, and mannerisms. That's great writing by Stallone and directing by the late John Avildsen.
RIP Creed...Heavyweight Friend of the World.
Don't worry, the next 2 will be a great watch as well.
What a great review. Glad you visiting some classics! I thought for sure you would cry just a little. 😢
Hi, I'm Italian 🇮🇹 and I've carried this film with me in my heart since I was a kid...❤ Rocky Forever 👊💥
Burgess was The Penguin in Adam west Batman and Paulie was the mob boss in The pope of Greenwich village and Bobby Bacala sr in the sopranos
The mistake on the poster with his trunks was a real mistake. They couldn't afford to re-do the poster so Stallone wrote the mistake into the movie. Also Mick was telling Rocky to stay down so he wouldn't take anymore punishment.
Apollo put Rocky on the pathway to becoming a champion. RIP Champ 🙏
Stallone still owns those turtles to this day!
So glad you began this franchise Gem 💎 Coby, you gonna love the sequels it gets better. And Burt Young was on "Carlito's Way: Rise To Power"(2007) that's the last movie i saw him in that he's a Mob Boss.
Talia Shire is also on "The Godfather" Franchise & she got into filmmaking during the 80's amongst her late husband Jack Schwartzman one of those that's very memorable to me was "Rad"(1986) she's in the movie as well
No one thinks they will be shedding tears at a boxing movie but the story along with Rocky and Adrian gets one evert time.... ❤
It stood out to him even _more_ as each round came and went, that he was actually able to go the _distance._
But then Apollo made history by being the first contender to actually break Rocky's nose.
People, look up "Man explains Rocky series animated"
This was the very first movie that had a steadycam!
In fact the steady cam was specifically designed for the Stairs Scene because they wanted to follow him up the steps and circle around him and end up behind him looking out over Philly!
This was the first movie I saw in a theater - I was 7 or 8 years old. One of the best movies I have ever seen. He nailed the feeling of the country, particularly in urban areas. They were tough times. This was Stallone's master piece. Caught lightning in a bottle the first time out. (Those are his words.)
Not only is Rocky the greatest, most inspirational sports movie ever, its also one of the greatest love stories ever put on film
Some say it wasn`t a fight movie but a love story.
The Fonz. Helped get this movie made.
You are completely right when you thought that was his dog.
