Bentley produced engines for Audi and VW for a long time, and unlike RR, everything is produced in crew by Bentley. Sure; the CPUs and indicator stalks may be from Audi but that’s hardly a bad thing.
As an owner of a Mulsanne, I truly admire the character and the handbuilt aspect of the car but at the same time that is its biggest weakness, I've had so many issues with it throughout the years, however, I ordered a Benteyga in the same color combo as the Mulsanne just so I can have that connection with it, I think Bentley sharing platforms and parts with Audi is the best decision they have made, financially but also for the customer ownership.
I would be happy if I could afford a Honda Civic SI but if I could afford an ultra luxury car I would choose a Bentley over a RR or a Maybach. Beautiful cars.

Even though a sedan would be my first choice because I have a family, the continental GT is sweet. I saw 👀 one at the airport parked in the same color in this video and have never seen brake rotors that beautiful. Yes, the car looked good period, but the rotors were detailed so well it looked like pure platinum shining. The interiors are outstanding as well.
They seem great but you gotta think... most people driving them have had to sacrifice a lot to get where they are. I think the sweetspot is being upper middle class and enjoying an M2 or something

Bentley's are nice and very expensive cars, but talking about driving characteristics rather than comfort and luxury makes little sense in relation to, for example, the Porsche Panamera (which otherwise shares the MSB platform, some engines and the driveline with Bentleys).

But VW is in an especially unique position to dominate the market because they already have the scale, resources, and experience of being the largest producer of cars in the world (although they battle back and forth for that title with Toyota, Toyota is a bit behind in EV development).
EVs are so much simpler than combustion, I’m not sure why people think any automaker will struggle to make an EV. Removing the engine and all of the associated components and replacing them with a copper wound motor and fat battery. The problem up to right now with EVs is universally holding all EVs back. The batteries right now offers limited range when reasonably compared to internal combustion engines, and are excessively expensive, a replacement battery for a Tesla is $22,000. The battery used right now in EVs are sensitive to heat which reduces the batteries ability t hold electrons and shorten the vehicles range. In case you didn’t know, the range on EVs right now decreases over time. So where the range began at say 240 miles/charge will soon be 200 miles/charge. Many people have no reason to change to an "affordable" $40,000 base model electric car. Gas savings is relative to several factors and gas is an expense that hits over time and doesn’t accrue interest during financing.

It had so many problems and complaints from buyers, that many were taken back by the company. The Colorado dealer turned me away, saying that although they were receiving one, it wasn't' to be sold and was being shipped back to the factory.
They can always put a speaker where the tail-pipe usually is on the electric vehicles, and pump out 12 cylinder sounds that match the acceleration. Cheesy but effective. Kind of like puddle lights.

If you aren't a lover of machines, and haven't ridden in or driven a Bentley then you can't understand. There is no comparison between the aesthetic of the Austin-Jaguar-Bentley and the German cars.
@@alejandrocanela691 You clearly haven't had to pay 10k a year in maintenance costs on a supercar that you rarely drive. For those of us that have, we don't consider reliability a problem. ;). Jaguars are as reliable as lexus since 2000, and Bentley's don't have any consistent problems other than it's a high performance engine that's a bit hard to work on, and the suspension like all air suspensions (see Land Rover) are fragile. Some common minor electrical issues. And parts are ABSURDLY EXPENSIVE. A used bentley is one of the best buys on the market. A used jaguar is even better than a used seven series and 100x more reliable.
One more thing. Get in a Bentley. In the rear seats. With someone else driving. Take off your shoes. Feel the deep wool carpeting with your toes. Drop the tray. Pour a drink. Then ride for a few hours on the highway. Make a few calls. Do a little laptop work. It's like being in comfy leather chair in front of a fireplace in the library. sigh.... ;). And your can ignore your phone, your executive assistant can't pop her head into your office, and you have a good excuse for not taking a meeting ;) Flawless. Same reason you buy a yacht. I have driven a Bentley, I have driven a Lexus, and I have driven a Toyota. I still have the Lexus and Toyota, but the Bentley had to be sold in a few years due to recurring electronic issues, seriously sub par electronics.

Biggest suv @35gal tank cost $170 at the pump of $4.95 regular, Range 550 mile range. As of today gas price November 2, 2021. Full tank.

I think Bentley is successful because unlike Rolls Royce it hasn't forgotten its traditional customers in the undignified scramble for new money. Rolls Royce does things now that the original company would never even have considered. They actually turned down commissions to do what they considered vulgar. Now with Rolls Royce there is no limit to the vulgar possibilities. No one with taste would want a starlight roof or any of the other twinkly bits they do. They wouldn't want inlays of diamonds. I'm a traditional Rolls Royce driver. I've had my 1965 Silver Cloud, as the second owner, for 39 years. Nothing in the current Rolls Royce range would make me give up my old faithful friend, but now that the Mulsanne is no more, I'm giving serious thought to a Flying Spur.

I can answer as a recent owner. I just traded in my 12cyl Bentley Flying Spur last year and had planned Tesla roadster to be my next car so yes I’m big on electric. Since that Tesla still not available and not a fan of Taycan I bought a boring S class Mercedes for now but definitely want my next car to be electric

Making a profit in the luxury niche is something not everyone managed to do, see the Maybach brand which was a huge loss of money (nowadays the brand is just used for luxury cars rolling off the regular production line of Mercedes-Benz). Going fully electric and gliding noiselessly around with enormous torque when needed is something that will work very well when you look for luxury transportation. Producing goods of long life means they will still be around many decades from now. In terms of sustainability that is a good thing, you only have to build them now. However the progress cycle in electronics is much faster. What's top notch today will be outdated in a few years and replaced by something even better. So I hope Bentley doesn't just produce new cars but also keeps in mind the upgradability of their models. Future electric drivetrains will have more range, more power, more efficiency. The finely crafted exterior and interior of a vehicle produced today will still be good then, much too good to throw it away. But it should be possible to replace obsolete electronic components (and recycle them to recover all the rare and precious materials that went into their production). So that the investment into a luxury car in 2025 still pays out in 2050 or even 2075. I'm thinking of the Swiss railways (SBB CFF FFS) refurbishing their locomotives Re 460 built more than twenty years ago, keeping the mechanics but installing new and more efficient IGBT electronics, for a total lifetime of up to fifty years. Top notch mechanics can last for a remarkable lifetime, even when electronics get outdated, and upgradability (rather then completely having to replace the hardware) will be the sustainable solution to this.
I like the fact that a Bentley is more curvaceous than a Rolls Royce which to seems to be far too angular. It's as if it's a tank. I can't help imagining a Bentley owner as being the most pleasant of individuals too. Sagely nodding whilst they needlessly give way aggressive drivers. They also appear to have acquired their wealth through thrift and hard work - in a decent fashion and not through a debaucherous one. Unlike the image today's Rolls Royce owner - where there's something bit too Dubai about him and tacky. When I look down - from a Victoria bound bus, at a customised Rolls Royce which is parked outside of the Dorchester Hotel. The word "Carpet bagger" is the first thing that comes to mind.

IMO people undervalue VW's ability to dominate the EV market once the chip shortage subsides. That's literally the only thing holding them back.

I think that Bentley is an amazing brand. What I love most is that depending on the speck, they can be very subtle while allowing owners to ride in peace and comfort, without looking ostentatious. A non-window tint Bentayga, with normal wheels, in a beige or white, looks so classy. They are pimped out by beings of lower class tastes, but a true Bently is subtle, yet superbly luxurious

Nice idea, but the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid is no longer available in the US market after only a few years. It had so many problems and complaints from buyers, that many were taken back by the company. The Colorado dealer turned me away, saying that although they were receiving one, it wasn't' to be sold and was being shipped back to the factory.

Nope. Keeping the power train simple and reliable while keeping the interior and driving world class will be far superior than dealing with the endless ghosts and gremlins of the Bentley power trains.
There is a reason you can get a 2011 Bentley Flying Spur in mint condition and only 32k miles for just north of $50k. No one wants to deal with the engine issues and power train reliability which is notoriously bad...
If you aren't a lover of machines, and haven't ridden in or driven a Bentley then you can't understand. There is no comparison between the aesthetic of the Austin-Jaguar-Bentley and the German cars.

Jaguars are as reliable as lexus since 2000, and Bentley's don't have any consistent problems other than it's a high performance engine that's a bit hard to work on, and the suspension like all air suspensions (see Land Rover) are fragile. Some common minor electrical issues. And parts are ABSURDLY EXPENSIVE. A used bentley is one of the best buys on the market. A used jaguar is even better than a used seven series and 100x more reliable.
One more thing. Get in a Bentley. In the rear seats. With someone else driving. Take off your shoes. Feel the deep wool carpeting with your toes. Drop the tray. Pour a drink. Then ride for a few hours on the highway. Make a few calls. Do a little laptop work. It's like being in comfy leather chair in front of a fireplace in the library. sigh.... ;).
And your can ignore your phone, your executive assistant can't pop her head into your office, and you have a good excuse for not taking a meeting ;)

I have driven a Bentley, I have driven a Lexus, and I have driven a Toyota. I still have the Lexus and Toyota, but the Bentley had to be sold in a few years due to recurring electronic issues, seriously sub par electronics.
Public transportation Train light rail cost $4.95 one way to station. Gas prices cost on smallest eco car @9 gallon tank. $4.95 regular, Equals $44 @ 400 miles range. Biggest suv @35gal tank cost $170 at the pump of $4.95 regular, Range 550 mile range. As of today gas price November 2, 2021. Full tank.

I think Bentley is successful because unlike Rolls Royce it hasn't forgotten its traditional customers in the undignified scramble for new money. Rolls Royce does things now that the original company would never even have considered. They actually turned down commissions to do what they considered vulgar. Now with Rolls Royce there is no limit to the vulgar possibilities. No one with taste would want a starlight roof or any of the other twinkly bits they do. They wouldn't want inlays of diamonds. I'm a traditional Rolls Royce driver. I've had my 1965 Silver Cloud, as the second owner, for 39 years. Nothing in the current Rolls Royce range would make me give up my old faithful friend, but now that the Mulsanne is no more, I'm giving serious thought to a Flying Spur.
The world just achieved record levels of carbon emissions.

I can answer as a recent owner. I just traded in my 12cyl Bentley Flying Spur last year and had planned Tesla roadster to be my next car so yes I’m big on electric. Since that Tesla still not available and not a fan of Taycan I bought a boring S class Mercedes for now but definitely want my next car to be electric

Making a profit in the luxury niche is something not everyone managed to do, see the Maybach brand which was a huge loss of money (nowadays the brand is just used for luxury cars rolling off the regular production line of Mercedes-Benz).
Going fully electric and gliding noiselessly around with enormous torque when needed is something that will work very well when you look for luxury transportation.
Producing goods of long life means they will still be around many decades from now. In terms of sustainability that is a good thing, you only have to build them now.
However the progress cycle in electronics is much faster. What's top notch today will be outdated in a few years and replaced by something even better.
So I hope Bentley doesn't just produce new cars but also keeps in mind the upgradability of their models. Future electric drivetrains will have more range, more power, more efficiency. The finely crafted exterior and interior of a vehicle produced today will still be good then, much too good to throw it away. But it should be possible to replace obsolete electronic components (and recycle them to recover all the rare and precious materials that went into their production). So that the investment into a luxury car in 2025 still pays out in 2050 or even 2075.
I'm thinking of the Swiss railways (SBB CFF FFS) refurbishing their locomotives Re 460 built more than twenty years ago, keeping the mechanics but installing new and more efficient IGBT electronics, for a total lifetime of up to fifty years.
Top notch mechanics can last for a remarkable lifetime, even when electronics get outdated, and upgradability (rather then completely having to replace the hardware) will be the sustainable solution to this.

When I look down - from a Victoria bound bus, at a customised Rolls Royce which is parked outside of the Dorchester Hotel. The word "Carpet bagger" is the first thing that comes to mind.
