To grill Salmon, I start with 3 pieces of salmon filet weighing about 4-6oz each. For seasoning I’m using my Killer Hogs The BBQ Rub - h2qshop.com/collections/kille... .
The brown sugar and citrus flavors in it really go great with salmon. Season all sides of the fish (skip the skin side) and let the salmon hang out at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This gives the rub enough time to pull some moisture out of the fish.
I’m using the Big Green Egg and a cedar plank to grill the salmon. You can use any grill to cook this recipe; just hold the temp steady at 300⁰. While the fish is resting soak the wood plank in water and fire up the grill.
After 30 minutes, place the salmon on the plank and center it on the cooking grate. Close the lid and set a timer for 20 minutes. While the fish is cooking it’s time to make the glaze. This is where even more flavor comes into the recipe.
    Honey Balsamic Glaze:
    - ¼ cup Brown Sugar
    - ¼ cup Soy Sauce
    - ¼ cup Balsamic Vinegar
    - 2 TBS Honey
    - 1 tsp Minced Garlic
    - 1 tsp Crushed Red Pepper
In a small saucepot add Brown Sugar, Honey, Soy Sauce, Balsamic Vinegar, Garlic, and Crushed Red Pepper. Cook over medium high heat for 5-7 minutes until sauce reduces by half. It should have a syrup-like consistency.
After 20 minutes, the salmon is getting close but it still needs a little more time. Brush each piece with the Honey Balsamic glaze and continue cooking for 10 more minutes. Salmon is done when it starts to flake, so use a fork or finger and feel one of the pieces. Get it off the grill as quick as it does or you’ll risk drying it out.
It’s ready to serve fresh off the grill and goes great with grilled vegetables, rice or a salad. The glaze really makes this dish and it’s packed with flavor. Give it a try the next time you fire up the grill.

I just made this dish this evening with a few small modifications. It was honestly one of the top 5 salmon meals I have ever had. I used black pepper instead of red pepper and I also chopped up about 2 cloves of garlic and added about 1 extra tablespoon of honey and 2 teaspoons of molasses in the glaze. For seasoning the salmon instead of my BBQ rub, I used kosher salt, black pepper, garlic salt, and sprinkled parsley over the top of the salmon.

The cedar plank is by far my favorite method for salmon and it's very easy. I get my best results when the plank reaches its smoldering point about half way through cook time. I like using BBQ rubs and then covering the top with lemon slices. Another great way is employing a mild horseradish pecan crust over a whole filet with a bit more smoke. Jeez, I'm hungry now!

Man! I just did this recipe tonight. I've never had much success at grilling salmon. This was honestly some of the best salmon I've ever had. And that includes any fancy restaurants I've been to. The reduction sauce was the perfect complement. I would have never thought to do this on my own.
The other day I found your channel by accident. I had typed in a Google search for filling a propane tank and UA-cam suggested one of your videos. I live grilled foods so what the heck. I watched your video. Then i watched another and another. I could feel my mouth water just watching you taste your different recipes. I literally couldn't take any more. I jumped in my truck, went to the store and bought a couple of ribeyes.
You are a master at what you do. It's clear that you love it. I can see your passion in your videos. I just know that if i cook any of your recipes, it's gonna be good. You're my new cooking hero. I wish you the best success.
Bu the way... if you're running out of ideas for videos, I'd like to make a couple suggestions...
    1. Pheasant! Most people make it in a stew or something or a cream sauce. But i think a grilling genius like yourself could come up with some good ways to grill pheasant.
    2. Cornish game hens. For a single guy, it's the perfectly sized one person meal.
    3. Grilled vegetables. Although most people watching your channel are basically carnivores, some grilled vegetables would be a great complement to your other recipes. Also... most of us men are pure meat eaters, but many of our wives are more into some good vegetables. Keeping the wife happy is important to successful grilling!
    4. Maybe something a bit more exotic like rabbit? That would be cool the the guys that hunt.
    Just a few thoughts!
    Happy grilling!

My son said it’s his favorite salmon ever! And he’s a seafood connoisseur!!
I tweaked the glaze by adding small amount of maple syrup instead of molasses (since we didn’t have any on hand). Maybe 1/4 cup or so. Adds nice flavor and also helps thicken the glaze and make it stickier to the fish.
I’ve followed a ton of Malcoms recipes and never been disappointed. We’ll done!!

Nice video, Malcom. I've been planking salmon for a couple of years now. Try toasting the cook side of your plank for 5 minutes before placing the fish on to cook, raising the temp to 350 degrees and cooking for about 21 to 25 minutes. I also recommend Salmon Magic as a rub and a honey/maple syrup reduction for the glaze. Nice thing about the Egg is that no matter how "done" you like your fish, the Egg will keep it moist. Regardless, you definitely know how to use the Egg.

  • @len9483
    @len9483 2 роки тому

I use a close version of this glaze but I marinate my Salmon about 2 hours with it. I also use a good quality mustard in there as well. Then put it all in a large Ziploc baggy. I also soak the boards for about 2 hours with a weight on them to make sure they're submerged.

I love cedar plank salmon - and for the longest time I used the "standard" planks, often found in your grocery store. However, if you want to take it to the next level, use "cross-cut" cedar planks (or maple; oak; etc..) from your local grilling store. You wont go back to the "standard" planks anymore - guaranteed!!

Man I live in Seattle where we eat a ton of fresh salmon but I've never cooked it with a rub. Seems like it would overpower the fish to me, but I guess I'll give it a shot sometime.
I like my salmon with a little alder or Apple smoke. I've done it on cedar planks too, any smoke you can get on the fish is usually great but you have to be careful not to overpower it.
Thanks for getting the wheels turning!

I've just finished brining 4 sockeye filets that are going on the Green Mountain Grill in a bit. I use Tom Douglas salmon rub and it turns out great. I do believe you can use too much rub though so I don't go very heavy with it. Still, it's always a hit. I live on the back side of Lake Sammamish, and like you I know good salmon when I have it.
