Most of it is just market forces. The faux minivans have taken over the car market. Some Zs and Silvias had turbos and sold extremely well, some didn't and have languished ... they've been left out because the money makers are crappy minivans with doors that open out.

Having driven 2 of the original ones (well one was a Toyota, but the same thing) and it needs more power, but no more than maybe 50hp and a similar increase in torque. It just had that horrible wheezy feeling, like it’s own engine couldn’t quite keep up with the rest of the experience.
Did it need more than 300hp? Absolutely not, it would have overpowered the chassis and made power the only feature. Same with the old NB MX-5, a little supercharger wakes it up just enough to get it going, but more power makes it way too much

The torque dip is owing to the use of both port and direct injection. The engine varies between using port and direct, or a blend of both, depending on rpm, load requirements, and engine temperature. For instance, it's port only during warmup. It's a really interesting setup as it allows you to run a mix of leaned out port plus rich direct placed right near the ignition. Mid range is pretty efficient. Full injection is for high rpm, with advanced timing for power. Yes you could probably tune some of it out at the expense of emissions, but I imagine the bump here is going to be much less pronounced than in the previous car.
