    Thank you for a real review !!! It was what I needed to hear, today they sell you so many videos produced and they convince you that you need that, and when you try them you realize that they are not so magical and they cause you a waste of time when making music.
    I loved hearing your opinion and helped me not waste time on something unnecessary that complicates my life!
    Thank you !!!

    The honesty in this video goes a long way...Thank you...I have a dear friend that is raving ((Pun not intended)) about this monitor, which I happen to be in the market for one, and he is highly recommending it...I'm a very old school Musician, and engineer from the 80's and I'm not impressed with all of the bell , and whistles with the latest technology..

      As an aside, I have two MTis in a Core Station and I love them. The learning curve, as you say, is really steep, and I'd be lying if I said everything is perfect - it absolutely isn't, but I genuinely think that, not only is it the most affordable control surface, it is genuinely the best one out there. Being able to tweak plugins with it is just *awesome*.

    Was good Wayne, I know I'm late but I copped the Raven a few years ago and it just sits most of the time. I been producing for 3 years now and I'm leaning towards selling it for more tactile mixer. Too much screen time takes always from my ears at times. Thanks for the review, wish I would have saw this before I let a stack go, lol stay blessed!

    This was a great review of the Raven MTi2. I've been using mine a couple years now and I agree with most of your points. While I did like some features of the Raven software, I stopped using it because I found it unnecessary. For me, the extra screen clutter just got in the way. The monitor itself works fine. I mainly use Cubase and sometimes Cakewalk. In both cases I put the DAW control panel on the Raven, while the main work area is up on one of my other monitors. I don't always use the touch screen, but it's always there when I need it. Even without the Raven software it's a better than average touch-screen and I'm happy to have it as part of my setup. I should mention it works fantastic with Cakewalk because Cakewalk natively supports multi-touch. No Raven software required. Cubase doesn't do multi-touch, but I don't really miss it. So there you have it. I love having the Raven on my desk and I use it a lot, just not exactly the way it's hyped.

    Thanks for the review! I wanted the raven for the same reason, I wanted the wow factor and for clients to book more. It is a great price for a control surface. I think you woulda got the wow factor from your client's if you had the two screens with the desk it comes with. I was worried about certain parts of the screens not responding to my touch after while. It's sad to hear you just got it and it already doesn't work sometimes😔

    There is still alot of things your gonna learn on this thing that is gonna make you freak out bro... I like that fact that you can draw on automatic fader controls... That by itself saves a ton of workflow time...

  • @amdenis
    @amdenis 5 років тому +7

    There are a lot of other advantages, such as ability to independently modify multiple faders, controls and plugins at the same time- beyond even what I am used to on an analog or digital mixing console. In other words, you can be riding vocals and drum busses to set automation, while performing simple gestures, modifying plugin settings, and executing batch commands during tracking and mixing. You cannot do that with a mouse on any DAW or even on a Nucleus. Also, you have gestures, which go far beyond what I can do on the SSL 9K, or any other console.
    After a few weeks of use, I am mixing down most sessions in 2 passes, and mastering in just one more. While this is only after cleaning-up musical errors and issues, you have to always do that using any approach. However, being able to mix and master most songs in about 15 minutes is amazing. Although it is still i proving, it now feels a lot like dancing with another professional dancer; whereas before it felt a bit more like herding cattle- if you know what I mean. Maybe not the best simile, but working on the SSL is definitely a lot clunkier and significantly slower.
    Anybody want a several year old hybrid mixing console?

    Great video Wayne!! What kind of mixer are you using? I just purchased the apollo x6 with the great upgraded converters and was wondering should I record and mix in the box or should I get a external mixer so I don't lose any conversion when I mix down my final mix to a stereo wav file? I also would like to know how do you mix down your final mix do you mix it down to a stereo wav file to your deck top? I guess I'm just looking for the best way to this. I use the MacBook pro, Apollo twin, Apollo x6, external la 610 mic preamp, Cubase 9.5 pro Thanks!!!

    Solid review! Saved me a ton of time, I’m definitely not buying it. I use logic exclusively and I don’t want to have to deal with all the shortcuts and macro keys to make it work like it should work out of the box without any configuration. Studios already complicated just mixing and using plug-ins do you want the mixed surface to be simple and intuitive it’s not. This is just one more thing to troubleshoot and go wrong in the middle of a session creating a new point of failure where there was none before. It’s supposed to be a turnkey solution. It’s not, now we have to configure the session every with a batch command which we didn’t have to do with a keyboard and mouse. Really good points that I never thought of as far as wear and tear on your eyes and never being able to take a break from the mix window! 👍🏽

    @fmgrecordingstudios we have a dual raven setup.i def understand having the change your work flow and the hassle of it.Due to wanting that wow factor we took 2to3 months to learn them and it was well worth it.after becoming more efficient with them,they have sped up the work flow of even 15 year veteran engineers.id suggest take the time to learn them and with your current knowledge mixed with a raven work flow would be OFFICIAL!I've been a follower of your vids for a minute now and even bought your templates to support your channel.take my word for it,learn them a little and you won't regret it.

    ´All that glitters is not gold ´ Good honest review. Personally I’m running in the other direction (old school engineer here) for 2 reasons. 1. I really value my eyesight 2. My mixes sound better when I mix with my ears, not my eyes... to be fair, this thing ‘looks sexy’ tho, but I’ll check in again when screen technology changes up another gear or two.

  • @weedywet
    @weedywet 5 років тому +1

    you can store and import Windows Configurations to eliminate that alignment problem. You also don't HAVE to look at the screen once you have your fingers on the faders you want to move. For me, being able to touch and move up to 10 faders at once is a major plus... it feels like mixing instead of mousing. I don't, personally, use the Raven controls for editing as much as mixing. I also have found that making some of my own Audiosuite Batch Commands saves a lot of time (for example I made a one-button Pop removal eq command), as does being able to one-button add all of my favorite vocal chain plug ins to a channel, for example.
    A lot of the things you're calling cons are things you probably won't find to be problems once you spend some time USING it.
    I'm a Grammy winning producer/engineer who has been doing this for 45 years; if anyone is stuck in my ways it should be me more than you! But I've found the Raven to be a major step up.
    Hope you learn to love it.

Just started using mine again( I switched sides of the earth in the meantime). It's what it is. Not a bad thing at all. If you hang in on the learning curve/workflow beating. You'll be fine.

    Love the beginning! I would like you to re-do this video in 6 months to a year. You might tell us that we would be insane NOT using one!
    I am tempted by the Raven because our drummer, with whom I mix, is a luddite and I think this would make more sense to him than the screens, hot keys, and and mouse.
    Great video all around!

    I'm kind of "on the fence" regarding this. I'm impressed and disappointed all at the same time. it took years for me to get rid of my console and now my console is a small qwerty board and mouse. Anything else is a restriction. I would love to have a crack at the Raven but would need at least two of the buggers... The learning......The learning..... Oh the Learning. I use Logic and have Logic remote; which means Logic on your ipad so I'm already kinda using something similar. The Raven looks just like a big ipad. I'll hopefully find a studio that has two of these and have a crack.... Cheers for an honest and balanced review. Jon. (I'm not Cheryl Beattie BTW)

    Take it back looks like a waste of money I’m good on that. I caught my self about to do something like this when I was gone buying a big mixer board just for wow factor but felt it wasn’t worth it at the end of the day. Great video tho.

      The Raven has been great for me and I don't want to go back to not having one. I don't have the greatest eye sight and being able to have everything right there and much closer than a traditional screen has been wonderful. Already had avid controllers and they work seamlessly together. Pretty much made a digital console.

    i would have paid a stack for the batch commander. You could have literally pressed record on the batch commander and made a button to redo every mouse movement, touch, action and then assigned it to one button. But it's almost like computer programming, once you create small processes you can chain those processes. That's where it speeds up my workflow. Luckily the batch commander is only $99 by itself. I like the touchscreen for zooming and quick actions like inserting specific plugins or doing things that i would normally have to click menus or switch screen views to do. If i'm using revoice and i know i want to line up multiple vocals, i can press one button as opposed to edit with revoice pro, copy selection, start revoice, show revoice, paste quick APT in revoice window, Copy selelcted processes, go back to DAW, paste at original position, bounce selection or save revoice pro session, enter to save, then back to daw window........All of that can be done with one button.

      It’s not a bad piece of gear. Just not for me. Anything batch commander can do I can do faster. Lol.

    • @CinAMaddict
      @CinAMaddict 5 років тому

      @@waynewav well what i'm saying is if you had pressed the record button on the batch commander of a session you edited it would have done what you did in fast forward lol. But editing with it outright is slower than just using single or chained shortcuts so i feel you on that. I barely use the actual touch screen but then again since they built the batch commander into the raven software you can't use the mouse to click on the raven buttons anymore. I would suggest you try the actual batch commander outside of the raven software. You should do a video with you in real time racing the batch commander automated lol

    Im not sure if everything on the screen is cool. sometimes I may close my eyes and feel the music as I turn knobs and move faders. this setup takes that away.

    In a day long session wouldn’t your arms and back start hurting, I think an application version that runs on the ipad where you could use it for key commands, changing views in cubase, mixer views would be much better it could sit close to you but not distract like this one does or waste space. Basically like lemur or Touch OSC but much much better in that form factor with a version of this OS......thanks for posting !

      @@waynewav I totally agree with your review. Tried a dual raven setup and it was a pain to get to work properly, so slate support had to remote control my computer to get it to work. But the software crashed and a bit buggy. So returned them. I also found that I actually missed the feedback in my fingers when I touch stuff. So have also bought a Faderport 16, and I like that a lot more. Take care..

    And that’s just so sad 😞 isn’t it? I was thinking the same thing about buying the new MTZ. It’s just a show peace to gain more clients. So I’m thinking about buying the new MTZ And the Desk top for a Show peace which I know it will slow down my work flow. But if I do decide to buy it I’m going to buy it for an investment for my youngest daughter so she won’t have to work so hard trying to come up.
