My mini review of the Steven Slate Raven MTI2

  • With all the bad rap I'm seeing about the Raven MTI2, I felt compelled to make my own review of it. I think it's an amazing product! The possibilities are endless to improve my workflow with it. You just really have to allocate some time to learn it.
    "My goal was to push this thing beyond the norm of good looks, the novelty of multi touch mixer, the equivalent of what we already do using keyboard shortcuts, etc.. Each one being a good reason but never a justification to buy on its own. To me the value was all of that ,plus (a big plus), to have the ability to think of all the things you repetitively do that takes quite a few steps to do (which is different for all of us) and be able to customize a button or gesture to do those tasks."

    How good is with with Windows is Running VEP, Ableton and Calewalk. Do the Macros work for those DAWs?
    And does it comfortably fit a NI Kontrol S88?

    Can someone tell me specifically how to COMMECT these dual ravens to the max mini? It has one HDMI port but each raven has an HDMI so I bought a powered splitter and plugged both remaining usb into the max mini. Both screens work and have touch but I can’t seem to have them work independently. For example in protools I want the edit window on one screen and the mix window on a separate screen. How can I do this?

    • @orangeroom5414
      @orangeroom5414  Рік тому

      For my mac, I connected 1 to the hdmi output, and I bought a USBC to HDMI adapter to connect the 2nd monitor. You can get a 3rd party on Amazon pretty cheap. You then go to the mac preferences and make sure it is set for extended as oppose to mirrored. That's how I did mine. I don't know about a powered splitter. It sounds like it would only mirror the 2 monitors rather than extend it to 2 independent monitors.

    • @NoahJonesNews
      @NoahJonesNews Рік тому +1

      @@orangeroom5414 that’s exactly what happened. It mirrored it. That’s what I’m missing the hdmi to usbc adapter. The multiport I’m assuming. So one screen via the mac hdmi, and the second hdmi on the second raven converted from hdmi to usbc. Thanks man.

    I was looking into the Raven and mainly like the touchscreen features. Batch command seems cool but I most likely would not use them much(at least at first). Editing audio with the touchscreen, adjusting plugins, etc is more of what I would like to know more about. I do hear people talking about the Raven faders not being as good as physical faders and all. Maybe Slate will come out with an expandable fader pack that could mount in the Raven desk to give users the option of both worlds.

    • @orangeroom5414
      @orangeroom5414  3 роки тому +2

      If it's the touchscreen you are after, that is rock solid. I do find it easier to adjust plugin knobs with touch rather than a mouse pointer. Having 3 screens, I love being able to jump around without having to drag my mouse across 3 screens. As far as mixer, it is not a physical mixer for sure. However, I use it all day long. I haven't had a physical fader in quite sometime and I'm personally good with it. Raven offers you their floating mixer as well as the overlay mixer which are bigger faders than what comes with the daw. However, with a press of a button, you can always hide the Raven faders and work with the daw mixer which still works by touch. Just not multi touch but still very usable. The touch screen is actually really nice to use to apply mix automation. Hope this helps.

But man, once you actually take the time to instruct it do what you want, it has a very rewarding feel as you sit back and let it do the work over and over. For me to just insert a UAD1176 plugin, I have to scroll down a mile to pick the plugin. Now I just hit a button and it adds the plugin right to my selected track. Anyway, good luck.
