- In the latest edition of the BarDown Podcast (and first actual edition of the playoffs), Corwin, Luca, Jesse and DZ rank each first round series before moving onto doing the same for the second round, highlight the best players of the first round as well as players who ghosted, and discuss the Bruins historic collapse.

Me personally, I have Bruins beating Avs, it’s more probable considering Bruins swept Panthers and then beat tampa in 5
I think I probably have the same bracket as Corwin. Leafs beating the Avs. I also predict that Seattle won't move the needle.

There was a really good video (cant remember where) that broke down the way playoffs work in the 4 major sports and the #1 reason the NHL has the "best" post season is because the best team during the season has the lowest odds to win the playoffs comoared to other leagues
Vox video, "Why underdogs do better in hockey than basketball". Basically because of the way puck possession works and the fact that your best players are only on the ice 20-25mins a game, anything can happen. I know my bracket is absolutely destroyed this year and i couldn't be happier

@aidanbogner2839 I was randomly zapping on tv when I stumbled upon a Bruins game, it was love at first sight, I could barely stand on the ice, never watched hockey before, and I remember thinking: "I don't even know what sport this is, but I sure wanna try it!". Took years eventually, but I did my university in the UK, and the student hall I was staying in was at a walking distance from an ice rink (I didn't know it before), I called that destiny lol learnt to skate, then I began playing with a beginners team (I've never gone beyond beginner, I really suck, I just am really passionate about the sport no matter what lol) It was even better than I expected. 5 years of paradise ... then I moved back to Brazil, and here there's absolutely no ice hockey I can play :( they only have one team in Sao Paulo, but I don't live there. To add insult to injury, I can't even watch the NHL, no idea where to stream it, and the official website is soooo expensive ! 😅

No one is talking about how timo Meier has zero points and was possibly the biggest deadline deal
Kane and Tarasenko performed way better than he has. I think he threw off the devils chemistry when he joined. That said, hopefully he can get his confidence back and score some goals like the 40 goal scorer they traded for.
@@MrNRib thats not true lol... Kane and Vlad have like never played w any of those guys Meier has played with Siegs and Nico before, Meier has made his presence known but he just hasn't had much puck luck at all, as opposed to panarin who I think I've heard his name once

Stars deserving favorites but my Kraken have a decent shot. I think it goes 6 or 7 either way and is a very entertaining matchup.

6:18 - I don’t understand how you could call the Devils/Rangers rivalry baseline for this series. Rangers fans were booing Jack Hughes every time he had the puck at MSG. Devils fans were shouting Igor to mock him in the shutouts. Then there was the hit Trouba put on Meier and Devils fans were booing Trouba after that hit whenever he got the puck. Petty was in ample supply, and this is coming from a Devils fan.
Also a Devils fan! Nothing like 2012 though. I think it comes down to the Devils team not being a hard hitting team at all, and staying away from any scrums/heavy hits would take away from their speed. After realizing that trying to be more physical games 1 and 2 was detrimental I think that really showed how good of a team the Devils are.
To that point, I have no idea why it took until the 3rd period of game 7 for a massive hit, which I thought was the best way of slowing down the Devils. I do feel like it was underwhelming compared to 2012 in regards to intensity, and I think as the series went on the Devils just exhausted the Rangers. But weird how little fight there was game 7, Devils clearly are a closer and cohesive group. I would be livid if I was a Rangers fan after watching this series.

I love the pettiness in hockey. I still actively hate on Mat Martin after sitting on our captain. Any other team would have had Martin given all the penalties he committed (he committed 10:00 worth of penalties) by the refs and would’ve sent a goon out to end his career after something like that done to their captain, but nooo the league hates Carolina because they aren’t a big market team and the Hurricanes are pretty injured and have no big big goons.

my favorite first round series would probably be Avs/Kraken or Leafs/Tampa. The speed in the avs/kraken game was unreal, high pace action packed every game and both goalies played extremely well. Leafs and tampa obviously had the most goals and the most fighting between the two teams and that alone is exciting to watch. Bruins vs florida was pretty boring until the last 3 games, florida was pretty trash early in the series and boston just didnt look like themselves all series. im torn between canes/isles or vegas/jets being the worst, but i think id probably put canes/isles as the worst because the islanders offense is just hard to watch and the canes just play defense all game and their offense is pretty straight forward. Jets injuries definitely ruined that series for them, but i guess it was just slightly more interesting to watch because both teams actually have some fun offensive players. As a rangers fan i was pretty disappointed with the overall series, game 1 and 2 were great, but after that the rangers played like complete ass and it just ruined the series for me. Didnt even lose with dignity, just a pathetic display and it really left you with a bad taste in your mouth. Dallas vs minnesota was alright, but dallas just shut down the wild offense so the series kinda got boring.
Leafs/bolts was easily the best series the fighting the players were so heated and crazed
I find it funny they bashed the oilers Defense and praised the Kings offense as being better than they thought but failed to noticed that twice in the LA Edmonton series Edmonton held the Kings to no shots for 22 minutes straight... thats over a period with no shots

I feel like games that come down to goalies are more interesting retrospectively. Mostly because you have to see or come up with an overall narrative. Not sure if that makes sense, but it’s how I see it!

Edmonton's goaltending will keep Vegas in it. If it goes 7 who knows what happens.
Oilers are far from a perfect team that can just look past a team like Vegas
@@jamesporter6162 EDM has actually been one of the better defensive teams in the league post trade deadline with the addition of Ekholm and Bouchard having a breakout year
@@NothingToPointOut24 Thats fair I can see that happening, EDM has been about as perfect as an NHL team can be though with only 1 regulation loss in their last 21 games
Skinner is decent, but he's not so good that he can steal games. It's going to be a real close series with some ridiculous high scoring that will likely come down to two things. Penalties and who can keep up the best defensively. I do think EDM has the edge though with overall better offence, and having Ekholm in the D zone, but Oilers started off that LA series with some really poor discipline against LA, if they repeat that behaviour Vegas will definitely take some easy games.
I agree with Kaprizov being on the ghosts list, but he also got his legs crumpled, was out a month, and only played 2 games before playoffs, he didn’t get much time to readjust and get back into the games
Engvall and Sandin actually wouldn't get Stanley Cup rings. The criteria for 41 regular season games played means they must also still be apart of the team when the Stanley Cup is won. ie; injuries
Luca if Brossoit crumbles, we got Hill, Thompson, Quick, and Patera. Goalkeeping was our strong suit so we’ll see

Korpisalo through the first 4 games was the 2nd best goalie per the advanced stats - the Oilers were clinical 🤷♂️

Y’all slept on Dallas-Minnesota that series was amazing. Game 1 going to 2OT was great, but the rest of the series had the same level of chippyness to it.

The biggest question in the Leafs Panthers series will be if someone on Toronto can bully Tkachuk into collapse the way that Kane did to him last playoffs, or if he's actually got the maturity now to handle that. If Tkachuk stays focused and plays his game instead he'll be suckering the Leafs into stupid penalties and plays all series long.
Oilers versus Vegas I think will come down to if the Oilers have to have Draisaitl carrying McDavid in this series as well. If they've got them on one line I think Vegas takes it on depth.
Carolina v New Jersey should be fast despite likely being low scoring. I haven't seen enough of either team to really have a say on that one how it could go.
Dallas versus Seattle will come down to how well Dallas handles the forechecking and physicality, since they're the better forwards group and goalie. I think Seattle has the better defence and system, so could come down to fluky goals and attrition more than skill.

McDavid vs Eichel will be a fun story line within that series. I disagree about Carolina vs Devils as being boring both teams play with a lot of speed and great transition games predicated on possesion. That one will be fun same with Seattle that game 7 was great basically Mackinnon vs the Kraken. Can they be as effective goal scoring vs Oettinger and can Grubauer continue to stand on his head in round two will be entertaining.

I feel like you guys haven't really watched the Devs Rangers games because the scores don't exactly reflect how the games went. The 1st 2 weren't the greatest but after that game 3 went down to OT and all the rest were close until the end. They were back and forth but the goalies were electric. Idk how that's boring. They made some wild stops.

I think another downfall of winning the President's Trophy is that you don't play any "meaningful" games down to stretch. You've probably clinched like a month before the playoffs, so sometimes you end up going into the post season a bit flat, and don't handle the playoff pressure very well.
