I really love the Oilers-Blue Jackets proposed McDavid trade if the Oilers commit to reloading by trading Draisaitl for young talent as well... my proposal is as follows:
To NSH: Draisaitl
To EDM: Johansen, Askarov, 2023 1st (EDM)
Preds straight upgrade and try to contend next season at the price of a first and a potential backup, Oilers get a goalie prospect and their own first back (teams seem to love trading to get their own picks back for some reason). Seems right for the timelines of the teams in a McDavid has been traded world.
I always love to read fan proposed trades. They usually comprise of "hey, let's package all our crap and albatross contracts together for their superstar".
Recently, a news article calculated the odds of no Canadian teams winning the Stanley cup since 1992, and it is around 0.5% chance. There were more likely to be 10 Canadian Stanley Cups in that period, than none. Like anything in life, it's a complex issue, with multiple explanations of varying effect. However, multiple changes made to the league under Bettman's ownership have had ad negative impact on Canadian Cup success. It's past the point of coincidence
Canadian teams have made it to the finals and lost, the Conference Finals and lost, Bettman doesn’t have a thing to do with Canadian teams just not being able to win it all since 1993 there’s just not as many teams in Canada so it’s harder when half of them suck compared to half the US teams sucking
That would be true if Bettman wasn't friends with Molson, Tannabaum and now Andluare who he's known for years

@@methodz2850 you gotta factor in the mental effect and all that the hockey culture in Canada has on the players, and also i remember that there's some tax thing that's in all of Canada and like half of the US that would make the players in teams in those areas ask for a bit more which would then negatively affect the cap situation, 2 of the teams that didn't have that tax thing were in the cup final, i don't think its a conspiracy against Canada or anything

He isn't underrated. He is good but there are better defensemans. Fox, Makar, Carlo, Seider, Josi, Hamilton, Dahlin. Heiskanen is as good as Quinn Hughes.
Connor's best friend is Leon... NEITHER is going anywhere as long as the Oilers pay them and keep competitive. Keep in mind the salary cap will continue to escalate especially if Arizona moves to Houston money will roll in for the first time from that franchise.

The leafs GM/coach situation is just too stressful on them. Look at teams like Carolina, Florida, Seattle, Dallas. The organizations are a lot more lighthearted/ have less stress on everyone and I think that’s why their teams do so well and are fun to watch

It’s the pressure on the organization to get it done now. Other teams management don’t have to deal with a near 60 year championship drought, not St. Louis, no one, save for maybe the yotes but they have a slew of other problems to sort out before they decide it’s win now time.

Mcdavid already said he wants to win a cup in Edmonton, and with the recent moves Edmonton management has made it looks like they are trying to make that happen for him

I will never understand why people think the Hawks would trade the first overall, they just started a teardown rebuild, they don't want players in their prime right now because it makes no sense for the plan. They want picks to draft and develop the players they want in the next couple drafts for the future of their whole team. The whole reason they blew up the team was for a chance at Bedard/top five picks for a few years and so Davidson could create the team he wanted.
jealous blues fan .. blues are just an investment group profit team .. one and done is profit, blues wont rebuild properly and will be another 50 years or more they even sniff the cup ..hawks should have a dynasty possibly soon if done right

Lol how does nobody underdtand that Chicago's still tanking next year too. They literally would never trade for McDavid who doesn't fit their window. And they certainly wouldn't trade that many assets that do fit their window.

If Leon Draisaitl decides to ask for a trade when his contract is done. Then i'd love for him to get traded to the Sens and be on a line with Stutzle. That would be so exciting
The best trade ive heard yet were the deals trading Mathews and Marner for the 2nd and 3rd picks and Jenners. Unreal trade for the leafs. Frees up 22 million to bring in some top Free agents or seperate trade for high priced veteran like Karlsson for 4 years. They could literally ice a better team next season and be loaded with a couple stars that don’t have to be paid until Tavares contract ends. Awesome deal. No rebuild but retool.
Without Marner and Matthew's the Leafs don't make the playoffs

@Richard Bas PROSPECTS!!!! Why would anybody trade a known good player for 1 people THINK will be good? It's 1 thing to just draft a potential star but it's another to trade for 1. There have been many players over the years that everybody expected to be great and turned out to be a bust, or atleast no where near what they thought.
@Jeffrey Cairns exactly true. We have 2 of them by the name of Mathews and Marner. This is a loaded draft. 2nd and 3rd picks overall are quite often sure things. Regardless 23 million in cap space is far more valuable than players who score 0 goals in the playoffs. I don't think most of you truly understand how the Cap works. I know most of you do thinks so but you really don't. Just as our General Manager has little concept of.
Love the Bardown crew but its so TSN to instantly forget the rest of the NHL playoffs and start talking about Leaf trade scenarios as soon as the Leafs are out. Talk about the playoffs! That's what people are talking about!!

Loved Jesse commenting on the Oilers depth. Love that guy, but I really wish he knew it wasn't 2018 anymore. Depth is not the Oilers' issue. They tied for the most double-digit goal scorers in the league this year (and no not all of those players played with McDavid).
I think it’s just playoff recency bias, nuge, Hyman and Kane barely scored this playoffs. Great during regular season but didn’t do enough in the playoffs. Had like 7 combined goals.
I’m not one of those people thinks they need to be traded or whatever. I love all three and think the core is solid, they just went cold at the wrong time.
The real problem is our defence and inexperience in skinner, he will get better tho, great rookie season all things considered
@@tmillerrr8355 Yeah for sure, none of those guys were good this playoffs, which is insane, cause they were all fantastic last year in the playoffs. Definitley seems like we had a lotta shit luck with injuries this year which is unfortunate timing. And yeah, hopefully Holland is smart and upgrades the D in the off-season. I'm okay with ekholm-nurse-kulak on the left but our right side needs a ton of work. If Campbell has a better season too and builds up trust, maybe him and Skinner can share the workload next playoffs, which will help cause I think his biggest problem was that he was overworked.

For the NHL, Dallas and Florida are MASSIVE potential markets (4th and 9th largest metro areas in the US), facing two very passionate fanbases.
The fact is, in the series vs Boston, more people attended Panthers games than Bruins games.
And TD Garden isn't small.
Running 19,500+ every game in these playoffs is massive.
But they have so many people to draw from.
The panthers aren’t located in a large metro area in fact where they are located is the area with the most retirement homes in Florida

When Florida was restricting Toronto and Canada fans from buying tickets, that's over a thousand miles to travel.
Travelling over a hundred miles to see a once every ten years type event is nothing.

Honestly as a Oilers fan I don't really know who I'd want to trade who is on the active cast. Maybe yeah (as Corwin mentioned) Yamamoto and Janmark but I think they have their moments. Broberg and Desharnais seem on the chopping block for defense and as much as we yelled at Desharnais he was actually pretty good in the final two games of our series
Desharnais wasn't even an NHL player in 2022, he'll only get better

Insane take. McDavid isn't staying in Edmonton his entire career. He's already hinted at leaving. The guy is a mega star and theirs more money and nicer places to live than small market cold Canadian teams.
If we trade McDavid and/or Draisaitl, we'd better get something like a 1st round pick for both of them, & two 2nd round picks for both of them, because there is no true replacement for them.
here's my fantasy trades. Scheifele to rangers for lafreniere... Hellebuyck and DuBois and Heinola and Wpg first pick to Mtl for Dach, Barron and Mtls 5th overall pick Pionk to Columbus for 2and rd. pick and Schmidt to Chicago for second rd pick and Kyle Conner and rights to Gwanke to Detroit for Cossa
Boone Jenner and 2nd overall for Marner is an awesome trade. You get a defensive C that can score. You get Carlsson or Will Smith.
The Leafs don’t need another 40G scorer. That’s they they’re in the situation they’re in.
We all want what we think is best for our favorite teams,but certain factors need to be looked at.First the cost for what you are getting,the future implications of players that you want to go forward.
Ottawa doesn't seem to realize that they are only 2 pieces away from the playoffs,but won't part with the pieces necessary to get them.
This is an example Josh Norris and Shane Pinto for Elias Lindholm and Backlund plus a 2nd to 3rd.Another Travis Hamonic,Lassi Thomson and a negotiated pick for Brandon Carlo a 6 5 220 pound right shot d man.Or with the same d men Hamonic,Thomson and a pick for Weegar.
A solid second line center in Lindholm and solid 3rd liner in Backlund plus a solid middle to top pairing big right shot d man from Boston.
They can't see the light in Ottawa

Another crazy trade I've heard was Habs trading Caufield + Matheson + MTL 1Y23 (5th overall) for Auston Matthews, which seems like a huge no for both teams. No way these two teams trade together...
Even more ludicrous : MTL 1Y23 + FLO 1Y23 + MTL 1Y24 (unprotected) + Juraj Slafkosky (1st overall last year) + Owen Beck for CHI 1Y23 (Bedard). That's a massive haul

As a long time leaf fan and hockey fan , there is no way that Mathews is worth any more than Drisitile McDavid or MacBook.
Niether is Marner Nylander and yes Morgan Rielly worth 7 million.
To have a solid foritital core you have to multiple layers protecting the main core, like a golf ball the layers of the outer core are as important maybe more to protect the center core that generates the enersha power .
4 player 5 player are not core they part of core . The way it is now they havent been able to compete physically at yes skill level

Draisaitl's contract has 2 years left, he'll decide to play it out and test free agency or re-sign with Edmonton a year early, based entirely on how next season goes. If the Oilers do well, cup or very very close, Drai and McDavid sit and talk about continuing and winning with Edmonton. If the team does not get to the cup...Drai will play out the last year and see what happens in free agency. That will determine McDavid's route a year later.

I remember last Colorado vs Pittsburgh game.Empty net Bednar is talking on the bench with Rantanen and MacKinnon right in front of him...Newhook comes in and squeeze between Rantanen and MacKinnon and id pay a lot to see that sequenece again because we clearly see MacKinnon look at Newhook with a *wtf you think you are doing* 3 seconds stare that end with a smirk.Kid is fast as hell and have a deceitful release but somehow cant find a spot on MacKinnon and Rantanen lines.Add the sequence when Rantanen going down the middle with Nichuskin on the right and he shouts *where the f is everybody with Newhook coming at Mach 1 from behind but a second late or Rantanen wouldnt had to shout *where the f is evrybody* in the first place.If i had to bet on a trade involving Colorado Newhook and Girard seems like assets they could get rid of without affecting the core or the future of the organization.
