Also, we don't see his spirit leaving his body. The blue energy that comes rushing up the DS2 reactor shaft has since then been retconned by TCW and Rebels to be the appearance of Sith Alchemy.
he also does not have any other clone bodies to inhabit, and if he did, he would need all the machinery to maintain his power without quickly destroying his body
@Rough Collies Rock That doesn't explain stuff like healing, lightning, and the more mental aspects like detection and mind tricks. If a scientific explanation were to exist, I see it more like convincing the midi-chlorians to do things for you as unseen microscopic servants, such as moving matter, rebuilding biological tissue, causing chemical reactions and energy manipulation, passing incredibly fast chain messages, creating temporary body enhancements, infecting minds like a short-term virus, etc.
I'm so happy he got to play the role in all three sub-trilogies, both because he's so fantastic in the role, but I feel it really does help tie the whole story together.
@@BleedingUranium Yeah, they really lucked out by casting a guy in "Return of the Jedi" who not only gave a great performance, but he was actually young enough at the time to then be able to legitimately reprise his role as his character's non-disfigured past self in the prequels, and then still be alive and well to play the character yet again in the last Skywalker saga film (as well as voice the role in an episode of "Rebels").
You could have had both. Maybe he could have been in some holo-massages or something that Kylo searches, so we get the good McDiarmid acting and he can still be dead.
@@bebo2629 By the way and nothing against you, but I've to think about a Episode 9 where Kylo Ren is the main/only villain and for whatever reason I don't feel that would make an interesting story to me. I guess, I'm just the type of person who just accept what I'm given in the movies. What do you think?
Do I like How Palpatine returned: No Do I like That He Returned: Mixed Feelings Do I like him in TROS: Yes, Sheev is always wonderfully chewing the scenery and being that ultimate Inhuman evil that we love to see be destroyed.
Pretty much agreed. Although I don't see the explanation as to how he returned that bad, I think essence-transfer is quite a good explanation. And I don't think it undermines Anakin's sacrifice either. Sure, RoTJ was an awesome ending, but Palpatine himself said that he had died in the 2nd Death Star, plus we get confirmation from TRoS novelization that his original body did die. And we actually hear Anakin and he does take part in finally defeating Palpatine so his character arc isn't ruined like some people say. He WAS the Chosen One, the prophecy was fulfilled but... light never lasts forever. Other than that, completely in agreement.
I'll have a go... Do I like how Palpatine returned? Yeah I guess, it doesn't really bother me. Do I like that he returned? Yes, definitely Do I like him in TRoS? Yes, definitely
@@Dionizos666 Yeah, that's what villains do, they lose. They're a motivation and an obstacle for the hero to overcome and eventually be defeated. You seriously wanted to see him win? And, if you look at Palpatine, it's totally in character for him to do that. At that point, he's judgement is so clouded by his pretty much unlimited power that he just thinks he's unstoppable, that he can beat Rey with sheer force. And that is why he fails, that is his only weakness, his overconfidence. That's why he loses.
Palpatine got disintegrated by his own power along with the Sith throne, all of his servants got killed in the following explosion, and the one place that had the sorcery and technological terror to bring him back got destroyed by a giant Star Destroyer crashing into it. Will we ever see Darksiders again post Skywalker Saga? Absolutely. But when it comes to Palpatine and the Sith, as far as I’m concerned they’re super dead.
Remember when he was thrown into a reactor core which exploded with panache completely disintegrating him shortly before the whole planet sized station was obliterated with equal panache? I don't think it's likely either, but I am saying that if a writer REEEAAALLY wants him back, they'll find a way to make that happen.
@@bul13ts Sure, but "villain falls down a bottomless pit" is like THE way to write a death so they can just come back later. It never surprised me that he came back in Legends, and it didn't in the new canon for the same reasons. On the other hand, the cinematography of his defeat in RoS (per the video and comment here) is a very, very clear way to show him and the Sith being utterly destroyed. Star Wars is ultimately a Fantasy type story (like LotR, etc) and more generally is fiction, so sure, "anything" is possible, but it's unlikely to the point of being able to say he "won't" come back after RoS.
That's what we thought the first time. But hey, I'm sure there's no way there could be ANOTHER unknown planet of cultists with the same technology to act as a back up plan for the back up plan. Sure Palpatine prepared for the possibility of him dying the first time, but there's no way he would plan for a second death
Literally in the TROS novelization a passage was released today where Finn and Poe don't really believe Palpatine is dead. Hopefully Disney keeps him that way. “General Leia thought they'd destroyed the Emperor at the Battle of Endor,” Poe said. “But he came back. More powerful than ever.” “You think he might come back again,” Finn said. “Maybe. Or some other evil will rise. Evil always rises.” “Naw,” said Finn. “Not for a long time, anyway.”
@@darthpryce Because by that point, Palpatine couldn't even be called human, but pure evil. It doesn't if he enters from Space Hell, there will always be people who will stop him thus stopping evil. Palpatine only came back in one storyline in Dark Empire and it didn't happen again afterwords in Legends. So, he definitely not coming back a third time because his contingencies to return him to power were ultimately countered and utterly failed, his time is over
Yeah I hope we’re done with Palpatine and the Empire. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to see the Sith and Jedi rise again in the future. With new characters and stories.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Boundaries shift, new players step in, but power always finds a place to rest it's head. You take down 1 enemy, they find someone even worse to replace them.
I like palpitine as a character and I was cool with them bringing him back but I feel they should have done a better job at explaining how he survived in the movie and I was not a fan of how he died but my new favourite Palpatine moment is him decimating the ships on exegol. it’s not a perfect story but you can always get enjoyment out of Star Wars. Like with the last Jedi I 100% agree with all the backlash but there were still scenes I enjoyed as a fan. We can all have opinions and argue to the point of starting fist fights but at the end of the day we’re all Star Wars nerds.

This is the issue I am having with Disney canon. Previously, we had a man who spent decades manipulating the galaxy to eliminate the Jedi and install himself as dictator. Then he had a grand plan to destroy the rebels and he even had a backup just in case he failed. This time he had no back up, no idea who he was facing in this dyad and he gave out a warning and set an artificial time frame for his enemies to destroy him while he had his fleet in a vulnerable position for no reason and did not seem to plan for a way for the ships to leave, or order them to when his secret base was found. Palpating got dumb and sloppy just in time to fight Rey.
I wasn’t against Palpatine coming back this one time. Despite the messiness of some things with it, overall, I could get behind his return with everything I knew about his Contingency plan. And what I liked with this death of his resurrected self was that not only did it lead to the death of the last living Sith Lord, but it also (in theory) destroyed the Sith Order as an idea. Their last bastion, their secret fortress world, and all its secrets died with its followers and their god-emperor. So, in that sense, like you said Alex, I think it worked. But if they brought him back again, I feel like then it would just be dumb and really kind of grasping at straws
I agree with you, however just because him and all his followers are gone I don’t thank necessarily need to sit her go on forever, down the line say someone that is for sensitive could learn about the history of the Darkside in the sith, and then take it upon themselves to start a new sith order or something like that
I genuinely dont think palpatine will be back ever again, but i do think his ideals will leave small echos throughout the galaxy rippling calmly through people and the dark side of the force. After all peace doesn't come so easily.
And fascism and other brands of authoritarianism in the real world, likewise, have never died even when their leaders have. Wasn't it V who said that ideas are bullet-proof? This is unfortunately true even for bad ones.
I bet we will get a Palpatine movie all about his rise to be a sith lord with his birth to meeting darth plaguise the wise and when he becomes the Senate and kills plaguise Or we get the robot chicken version of Palpatine
The reason why he's definitely dead this time is because we saw him physically perish. The New rule is if a character falls from a great height, his death his ambiguous, with the exception to Han (non-Force user) Solo was stabbed before falling. Mace could've survived Ep 3 and died at a later date. Luke lost an arm and fell - he survived. Boba Fett maybe still alive, Maul survived Episode 1 but we saw him die in Rebels. Palps fell from a great height but disappeared in a flash and we heard his spirit leave his body, that would've been a great Death but It didn't look definitive anyway.
To be fair, of all the questionable returns, Maul's is _by far_ the worst. Arguably, we saw that dude die. The dark side of the Force apparently can also sustain severed spinal cords and the loss of half of one's innards. Who knew. This from Filoni, the one so many of the anti-Sequel fans call the best writer of Star Wars.
@@joshuapray Maul was resurrected in two separate comics prior's to his canon return in The Clone Wars, everyone wanted him back and given his backstory, coming from an unnatural world even by Star Wars standards, plus a avid user of the Dark Side it's not impossible. As for Spinal cords & innards....We don't know Maul's biology, for all we know he's closer to a cockroach than a human, roaches can loose his head and still survive for days, Maul could've done something similar + used the dark side, kept himself together long enough to apply robotic shit to him. Star Wars is more of a Space Opera than Sci-fi.
I must admit I was sceptical at first but the more I discover about the story, the more I accept it. I admit though, they've obviously plugged the story holes etc. I wouldn't expect Palpatine to return now but when I saw ROTJ in 1983, I thought the Emperor was dead then too.
You have to realize that if your going to have a redemption for Ben. And it's not at the very end of the film, like Trevorrow's, where Ben dies with the light in his eyes. Then there has to be a big baddie. Bringing in a new face for the villain, would have been a very bad idea. So that means they needed a familiar face, and Palpatine was the best candidate.
@@matiasluukkanen7718 it's not about better writing. Ben is a very intriguing villain. But if your villain is going to have a redemption arc that doesn't come right before he dies, like Anakin. Then you have to have master bad guy.
@@lukerope1906 the redemption was of Anakin in RotJ. That was the “Skywalker” saga. No one cared about Ben. He was a tool that underachieved and almost got his ass beat by two people who never touched a lightsaber before.
Resurrection, time travel, even cloning, outside of creating a Clone Army for the purposes of a narrative about a Galaxy-wide conflict against droids specially designed for battle, have all been concepts I've lauded that George Lucas steered clear of, because they're tropes that signify lazy storytelling, at BEST. They're tropes that other film franchises rely on rather heavily, at times, like in the MCU. And despite popular opinion tropes I believe actually hinder the overall stories. If any character can just be brought back somehow, or events or decisions can just be undone, by reversing time or bringing someone back to life or something, cheating death and avoiding real consequences essentially removes any real weight from the narrative almost completely. Not to mention how the tropes muddy-up the context and end up raising more questions than they answer, rendering the whole thing almost totally unsatisfying after all is said and done. So, needless to say, I was also extremely apprehensive about Palpatine's return from the time I first learned it was even a possibility during the reveal at Star Wars Celebration that year. I had always thought more highly of Star Wars compared to most other cinematic Universes because of their ability to tell meaningful stories without resorting to such plot elements. Whether or not the sequel trilogy lived up to the legacy of the cinematic Universe in which it inhabits stands or falls on the decisions made at the story group table. And, whoever is responsible for the story taking such a turn, for better or for worse, is now relegated to no higher level of quality of authorship of any writer (or writers) of ANY contemporary film or franchise. And now, Star Wars will ALWAYS suffer because of it. At least, for me it will. Which is the toughest thing about it all, having been a fan since seeing the Empire Strikes Back in theaters back in 1980 myself, only to endure the lengthy "dark ages" between Return of the Jedi and the Phantom Menace with everyone else. It's hard to blame my "lofty expectations" for my recent disappointment when they have always been reliably justified in the past. The prequel trilogy didn't live up to their predecessors, either, but at least they added to the legacy, as opposed to taking away from it. Even though I enjoyed the Rise of Skywalker more than I expected to, and definitely don't agree is as bad as some people enjoy pointing out relentlessly, the movie and the trilogy in which it concludes is, for me, the least favorite of them all. With the prequels landing in the middle of my personal rankings. The prequels actually introduced many new vehicles, interesting Planets, and gave the whole saga a more "50's diner" feel compared to the "late 70's, early 80's" feel of the originals. Both feeling like they were part of the same Universe. The sequel trilogy adds a few new characters and aliens but it relies FAR too much on what came before, adding little to no new spacecraft or vehicles, and ended up just feeling like really high production value fan fiction lol like telling new stories in a sandbox out back with our old Star Wars toys. Most of us can do that already, without having to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in the process. Kids are clearly going to love the sequel trilogy more than their parents, especially if their parents are huge fans of the originals. The core message of "hope" and "optimism" is more present than ever. Almost incessantly so. That's fine for Disney, I suppose, I mean, I'm not exactly their target demographic anymore anyway. But, the trilogy won't have anything close to that cultural impact the original trilogy did, or the nostalgia factor that helped give credibility to the prequels, when it made sense why Palpatine would appear. Luckily for most of us lifelong Star Wars fans they aren't only making movies nowadays. We have some awesome New Star Wars in the form of live-action television with shows like the Mandalorian to keep us at least somewhat satiated into the foreseeable future. None of this is a statement about Ian Mcdiarmid's performance as Palpatine, of course. If Star Wars is going to insist on the main antagonist characters having an even more powerful and nefarious "shadow" pulling their strings, I prefer Palpatine to Snoke ANY day. The best part about Snoke was that he was killed lol even his name has always caused me to cringe. Palpatine IS the true Emperor, and if they were going to bring ANYBODY back in this last, final chapter I'd rather it be him than anyone else. (Just one fan's opinion.👍😊)
I liked TROS, but if they bring him back again, I swear I quit Star Wars Canon. But I think we should discuss what happens after TROS. I think we should see how the Galaxy rebuild a Republic that this time actually care about the whole galaxy, not just the Core words. We should see Rey, following the teachings of Luke, Leia and other Force Ghosts rebuild the Jedi Order. I think that after TROS will be a mix of the time period between ep6 and ep7 with the high republic. A time of peace, hope and prosperity, with the jedi regaining their full power once more. The enemies in this era will probably more technological rather than Force users, and will probably be a mix of war lords, deathwatch, nihil, first order loyalists, etc.
Of all the Star Wars stories put out so far in movie format, I believe a Palpatine (from his perspective) movie should have been written, produced and released and just name it after him OR create a movie from the Darth Plagueis book. The writers for the recent movies horribly maimed his character's potential, sad.
I really hope the Sith never return post-RoS. As unhappy as I was with Palp’s return, if what Rey did in that film ended the Sith for good, that gives some more weight to the movie imo
Can you imagine how many fantastic stories there are, just waiting to be told, of peoples across the galaxy forming resistance cells and fighting the First Order occupation and then ultimately punching their way through whatever blockade or battle they need to in order to reach Exegol for the final confrontation? So. Many.
I just want to see the first reactions to people hearing about Palpatine, if they think its fake or actually believe that he's back and start panicking like crazy.
Ultimately I'm not a fan of the return. It was a safety net after the plot holes of the sequel trilogy. It also completely cheapens ROJ and Vader's sacrifice. Clearly Palpatine was never planned for a return from the outset of the Force Awakens. Snoke is simply brushed aside with a rubbish explanation of "I made Snoke" - sadly this felt very much like a fan theory cop-out and there is simply not enough detail to explain how he survived. Why they did not plan this out back in 2012 as three parts to one overall cohesive story as any great trilogy would is simply beyond me. I don't get it-you have a story board, you have directors with whom you SURELY sit down (all three) and hash it out. It's a shame because I thought the acting, themes/messages and cinematography in these three films were utterly superb. The Last Jedi for it's flaws of Leia space scene and the bizarre marvel humour was the deepest Star Wars film yet. The Treverrow script looked incredible and I think would have created a far more unique and interesting storyline than TROS. However, we got what we got and I'm generally ok with it. But TROS should really have been two movies.
That’s why I don’t love these movies compared to the originals and maybe even the prequels. There was no planning involved when there should have been. It’s so blatantly obvious that Palpatine was not meant to be in the final movie.
The Marvel-style humor in "The Last Jedi" was great, not at all bizarre. It's always the best way to do comedy in an otherwise serious storyline if you're going to include comedic moments at all. Just don't go overboard (which it wasn't in TLJ) to the level of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films or "Thor: Ragnorak" unless the style of movie calls for it (which it did in those three cases). Otherwise, I agree with everything here.
First of all, dealing with death was one of the core themes of the Saga. Palpatine's return made complete sense in the context of the other films, as he was 'afraid to loose the power he had gained' and had achieved the ability to "cheat death" during his decades of plotting and planning. Pitting father against son at the Battle of Endor, he baited Luke (to 'take his Jedi weapon' to 'strike him down') and the Rebels Fleet to kill him. Palpatine clearly _expected_ to die, knowing that - should he perish - he could return to exact revenge. Palpatine's return was foreshadowed in select issues of the comics, as well as the _Aftermath_ trilogy of canon novels released mid-2015 through early 2017. The third book includes Palpatine interludes with his secret subordinate, who assures his master that he will be "victorious": *"One way or another, I will be."* During the Battle of Jakku, that same man (Galius Rax) proclaims during a Sith ceremony to one of Palpatine's advisers, _"You must be clothed in the raiment of darkness. The mantle of the dark side is yours to wear, at least for a time. At least until we can find Palpatine and revivify him, bringing his soul back to flesh anew."_ In the soundtrack's notes, JJ noted the "majesty" of _Rey's Theme,_ which incorporates _The Emperor's Theme_ and _Darth Vader's Theme._ If that wasn't enough, 'Rey' means "king" in Spanish. Based on what Emperor Palpatine said to Rey and how he died (once more), it's quite obvious to me that we have not seen the end of him, as his spirit moved into - _and currently resides in_ - Rey's body. Palpatine is still playing the long game: "Nothing can stop the return of the Sith!" But the Jedi can defeat him... once and for all. *The Sith and Jedi will return in Episode X,* and the Saga can definitively conclude.
I really hope that The First order isn’t gone they seem really cool and that the Resistance Do with them what the New Republic did with the Empire in Legends by letting them exist as their own separate government and possibly becoming better and more moral and possibly help whatever government the Resistance forms (The New New Republic) when they need it most...
Alex, I love your explanations, and as much as I would love you to be right, there is literally nothing in your arguments that prevents any author in the future to say that there were more Sith cultists or something like that in any of the other Sith worlds doing some Sith magic trick at that exact time to once again transfer Palpatines mind and spirit to yet another body. Once you open the floodgates of "its possible for Sith to transfer their essence to another body", somebody WILL use it again. It took 29 years for them to use Dark Empire in the movies, and it will take years, maybe decades, but he WILL return when executives think that they need to somehow save the franchise...
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but personally I would love to get more stories after EP9. Showing the First Order get overthrown across the galaxy by the citizens/New Republic remnant I think could create some interesting spinoff type stories about new characters
@@johannschmidt6074 Perhaps the palpatine has an apprentice that we have not seen, imagine if the palpatine's apprentice took the remains of the Empire.
I don't mind the Empire (or its ideals) or the Sith returning further down the line. I think that's to be expected. People are often led astray into new versions of terrible ideas from the past. I feel like the world we're living in right now makes that pretty clear. And in that context, I thought the First Order was a very timely villain, indeed. I honestly loved the sequel trilogy -- some parts more than others, but overall loved it.
I would like to see a scacenger hundreds of years after TROS and they find Exegol and Palpatine's essence are haunting the dead planet until he finds the scavenger and is resurrected through them as they let the essence escape
As I myself have never been a big EU fan but that doesn’t mean I dislike it. I just couldn’t get into it all because by the time I was old enough to read and play the games there was just SO MUCH content and I had no idea where to begin. I grew up with the OGT and prequels and playing The Jedi Inight series of games. Kyle Katarn and the Dark Jedi. The Imperial Remnant, dabbled in a bit of Thrawn and the Heir to The Empire. I knew a little bit about the Yu-Zhong-Vong and actually would like to see that in future installments. We know the idea was taken into account as old TCW story reels actually feature the Vong on the edge of Wild Space.
I think getting more sith down the line would be pretty cool, even just pretenders trying to carry the torch (imo there's still room to make Darth Krayt and the one sith canon and that'd be really great)
They could still bring him back easily if they want to. At the end of ROTJ, he is both literally and thematically killed in the most definitive way possible. The fact that they just ignored that and brought him back anyways means there’s nothing stopping them from doing it again.
I want to see Darth plagueis in like a what if situation. Like what if palpatine never killed plagueis or plagueis killed palpatine I don't know. I think that would be interesting
I hope post ST the galaxy doesn’t have an overarching government. Just different systems and planets. Like planet earth. Sure we have a UN but most governing isn’t done at that level
I brought this up before in a different video in which I am okay with Palpatine’s return thanks to the novelization. Again I would like to address the similarity of Palpatine’s return with another failed Star Wars product. The Product being “The Force Unleashed 2”. The Game struggled with a very screwed up plot due to a very big continuity error that was not explained all that well despite a very epic promotional campaign. Like Palpatine, TFU2 saw the return of Starkiller aka Vader’s Secret Apprentice. What is not brought up in Game plot at all is that the Clone of the Secret Apprentice is one of a million versions that was either destroyed by Vader personally or waiting to be released to serve a Master who absolutely does not care if they can or cannot live up to the expected task. One thing that is hinted at and is also alluded to with Palpatine’s Clones is that the Clones themselves could not handle the power of the Force being inserted into their bodies as it is being aged at very fast rate of time. In both stories they also allude to one clone who is seemingly perfect but with one flaw. In TRoS, that flaw is the fact he ended up not being Force Sensitive but able to produce a child that was while in TFU2 the flaw here is that the clone of Starkiller also gained the memories of the original Apprentice which prevented him from obeying Vader. In the end, the facilities in which both clones are from, respectively, are destroyed therefore guaranteeing victory for the heroes. In the long run, I feel with this plot hole in mind, TRoS actually handled it better since there is no foreshadowing of a nonexistent continuation that will never come to fruition much like TFU2 which also ends with Vader being kidnapped by Starkiller and the Rebellion, clear definition of a cliffhanger. I would also like to add that TFU2 didn’t help itself by being half the length of it’s predecessor. Fortunately, TFU2 is not considered canon so it doesn’t really matter anyway.
It made sense for Palpatine to return for ep 9. I just wish they would have telegraphed it more, especially in ep 8. That said, JJ/Terrio did a fantastic job with ep 9, given the situation. Ep 9 is my fave StarWars movie since the OT--it was so well done, with amazing scenes and characters--I only wish they added more scenes to the film. Do I want to see Palpatine again? No. I think the biological Skywalker's, like Palpatine (Emperor), should be relegated to this 9 film 'saga,' as this kind of concludes this 'historical epoch' in the SW universe. I'm excited for High Republic, but honestly, I'm more interested in Rey 'Skywalker' at this point--she is such an amazing character, and Daisy's performance--in ep 9 especially-- was emotional and full of heart.
Cultist: My lord shall we use our seemingly endless resources to set up another cloning facility on another unknown planet in case this one gets destroyed? Palpatine: No, i have no need for an elaborate back up plan for my elaborate back up plan. There's no way I could possibly die twice
I think it would actually be sorta cool if Palps became the new embodiment of the Dark Side. We may never know if he's really gone, just like the dark itself is never really gone.
If I was to make a Star Wars movie set after TR0FF and was told it had to have Palpatine. I'll make the movie a silly Mel Brooks, Monty Python esque comedy with Palpatine played by Seth Macfarlane.
I like the way that Palpatine returned, and there pretty much is no way that he could come back a third time. In Return of the Jedi, the Emperor could have easily survived being thrown down the shaft, but he could not survive Rey melting his face off like that. That's what I loved about The Rise of Skywalker. Disney did something right for once.
Here's the real reason: No movie writer (outside of the horror genre) would be so incompetent as to resurrect (after confirmed deaths) a major villain twice over within the same continuity. Audiences wouldn't stand for such monotony in a film franchise after it was already so controversial the first time, even if it were only to be done in the expanded media next time.
I think we won't see Sheev again because Disney saw how mixed the reviews were, and no Lord of the Sith has ever been more powerful than Darth Dollarsign and his apprentice, Mickey.
Let it also be said that Palpatine had time to throw his spirit out when he was falling (probably what the blue energy was.) I don't think he had the time to do it when Rey killed him.
My opinion is that the emperor should be the final boss of the sequel, since he was the final boss of the two other trilogies as well. But I kinda disliked the way he was brought back in TROS. I think the legacy of the Empire will live on even after the defeat of the First Order, but in future stories I rather they don't plan on making superweapons again.
Although I don't mind Palpatine returning, it would be nice to have an explanation in the movie instead of having it in the novelization. Take Harry Potter as an example: the main villain (Voldemort) "returned" from death and it was explained how he was able to do it (Horrocruxes), and this same explanation also helped to explain he wasn't going to return again after his second death.
I wasn’t surprised that Palpatine came back in TROS since it’s in his nature to obtain power. I agree he shouldn’t have been brought back into the film with Transfer Essence. But I hope he doesn’t comeback into future Star Wars content post TROS.
I think the problem is that Palpatine was set up as the big bad from the beginning and after he's killed in ROTJ, there was a no villain (at least in canon) who can top Star Wars version of the Devil. Which among other reasons explains why GL was against a sequel trilogy.
If the first two movies in the sequel trilogy were more connected, and they actually had some forshadowing or set up the return even a little, Rise of Skywalker would have been so much better. Slapping Papa Palps into the last movie like they did was too little too late.

I do wonder what we’ll see, if anything, after the sequel trilogy. With all the space fascists gone the only threat that could be posed to the galaxy could be something from outside of it. A cool canon cop-in for the yuzhaan vong could be a race that is their exact opposite, where they are all machines that see organic life as meaningless and want to destroy it.
The problem I have with the novelization is that it destroys Anakin as the chosen one. At least in the movie it lets us draw our own conclusions. And the issue is why didn’t he see this coming also. He foresaw his first “death” it makes no sense. They need to have him come back again sadly (cause the novelization ruined it) and have Anakins spirit sacrifice itself to kill palpatines spirit if they truly want to be done with th skywalker saga. This being said I loved the movie. Wish Anakin and Luke had been behind Rey making her lift the skywalker saber to defeat palpatine. That would’ve been the best ending and fulfilled the chosen one aspect. But that would’ve been the thing I would’ve done differently. Aside from that I think it was a great film.
Palpatine always knew that Vader would betray him being a Sith Lord and all, but he actually didn't expect Vader to throw him down a reactor shaft, which really pissed him off because I think he saw as humilitating for him to die in such a way.
Regardless of where his spirit goes after essence transfer, his spirit will still be in the galaxy, and could theoretically inhabit any grown clone body (at least temporarily). Plus anyone notice that Palpatine wanted Rey to kill him, then she does that and nothing happens?
@@EvilPurpleDragon Either way he died by her hand. And because of a lack of prior explanation of how Palatine was going to complete his plans, we don't really know if dieing by her hand really counts. Plus it seems kinda lazy, like Palatine didn't die because Rey did something clever, he just died because he didn't stop shooting lighting at him self.
I agree that he's gone for good this time, yeah. If there's going to be another Sith resurgence in the future, I hope it comes from someone far more frightening, and arguably more powerful...Darth Nihilus.
He’s probably gone for good but who’s to say he didn’t train another apprentice? There were plenty of Sith worshippers on Exogul. Maybe if he or she survived they will wait to take revenge on Rey and her new Jedi order down the road.
I think him returning works well, it just could've been more explicit on screen. The movie itself needed more pacing, and Palpatine's return is included in that.

This is a song, that I wrote, for a Sith-Lord from a Galaxy far far away.
That is what I wanna here at a concert.
@Gaz 84 how bright and cheery you are.....
@Gaz 84 is that what you call it?
@Rough Collies Rock That doesn't explain stuff like healing, lightning, and the more mental aspects like detection and mind tricks. If a scientific explanation were to exist, I see it more like convincing the midi-chlorians to do things for you as unseen microscopic servants, such as moving matter, rebuilding biological tissue, causing chemical reactions and energy manipulation, passing incredibly fast chain messages, creating temporary body enhancements, infecting minds like a short-term virus, etc.
Joe Kerr where do we have confirmation on this? This info is really interesting
Palpatine should have never returned for IX, but Ian McDiarmid was a absolute delight on screen as always.
ImperialistOpinions agreed!
Do I like That He Returned: Mixed Feelings
Do I like him in TROS: Yes, Sheev is always wonderfully chewing the scenery and being that ultimate Inhuman evil that we love to see be destroyed.
He was Wasted in TROS and was dumb by doing same thing he did with Mace Windu..and he lost again....
I'll have a go...
Do I like how Palpatine returned? Yeah I guess, it doesn't really bother me.
Do I like that he returned? Yes, definitely
Do I like him in TRoS?

More powerful than ever.”
“You think he might come back again,” Finn said.
“Maybe. Or some other evil will rise. Evil always rises.”
“Naw,” said Finn.
I need a t-shirt that says "Endless Cycle of Sheev."
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Boundaries shift, new players step in, but power always finds a place to rest it's head. You take down 1 enemy, they find someone even worse to replace them.
I don't think Palpatine will return but maybe thousands of years down the line,The Sith or another Dark side order might rise.

I agree with you, however just because him and all his followers are gone I don’t thank necessarily need to sit her go on forever, down the line say someone that is for sensitive could learn about the history of the Darkside in the sith, and then take it upon themselves to start a new sith order or something like that
Thanks for your videos. I learn a lot about Star Ward and I really like your vision about the SW universe.
I bet we will get a Palpatine movie all about his rise to be a sith lord with his birth to meeting darth plaguise the wise and when he becomes the Senate and kills plaguise
Or we get the robot chicken version of Palpatine

@@jcursiolf Right? Deepfakes mean death of an actor is no death for a character, for better or worse.
He will be back. Disney and the current leadership at Lucasfilm have no creativity or new original ideas.
You are 100% correct, and you mentioned time travel which was brought up in Rebels, just so they could make sure to ruin one more thing.
I wish I could upvote every single line of that comment. Amazing take :)
I want Ben Solo back.Sheevy P. can remain for good in the Sith Hell.
Great video Alex 🙂
@@jacobberg373 Great point! I, too, would like to see that.
@@Compucles I think TLJ had a lot of out-of-place humor, Poe's yo mama joke and Luke's milk chug come to mind immediately
@@Nemesis_T-Type Maybe the milk chug was lame, but the mama joke was good, especially for those who are aware of Hux's backstory.
The third book includes Palpatine interludes with his secret subordinate, who assures his master that he will be "victorious": *"One way or another, I will be."*
During the Battle of Jakku, that same man (Galius Rax) proclaims during a Sith ceremony to one of Palpatine's advisers, _"You must be clothed in the raiment of darkness. The mantle of the dark side is yours to wear, at least for a time. At least until we can find Palpatine and revivify him, bringing his soul back to flesh anew."_
In the soundtrack's notes, JJ noted the "majesty" of _Rey's Theme,_ which incorporates _The Emperor's Theme_ and _Darth Vader's Theme._ If that wasn't enough, 'Rey' means "king" in Spanish.
He will return. They said his spirit was destroyed by the Jedi ghosts. However we didn’t see that . We only saw his physical body only destroyed.
An endless cycle of Sheev doesn't sound so bad
The story about how Palpatine survived a third time?
I don't know how you stay so positive about Star Wars after this movie, I honestly wish I could too.

I hope we see whatever threat Thrawn was afraid of
It was the Grysk, an empire that wishes to conquer the entire galaxy when the time is right.
Palpatine in episode 12: "I have died before. And... another time after that..."

@Star Wars Explained Do you think there will be some version of the Galactic Alliance as the new government?
i love forever palpatine
StarWars ep XII is gonna go crazy when we have 1,000,000 sheev clones, each with deathstar canons attached 😳
In the book of ROS finn asks do you think he’ll be back and Rey says maybe evil always rises
So do you think we’re get something similar to the Yuuzhan Vong in the future?
I agree with you, let's see some new material and new stories but 'Star Peace' - just doesn't have the same ring to it. We will see.
No one's ever really gone.
Yes, Palpatine should absolutely return again.
There’s no way that Palpatine didn’t have a secret apprentice that was hiding off-world.
2035:
"AHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! FOOLS!!! ONCE AGAIN I HAVE RETURNED!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Well I've always liked his return for IX, but that's me. And yeah, he gone now.
An endless cycle of Sheev. It’s just like the water cycle.
Really bringing him back was awful. And he's a clone he got a new body
Ironically, Ian McDiarmid acts circles around Daisy Ridley
Here's the real reason: No movie writer (outside of the horror genre) would be so incompetent as to resurrect (after confirmed deaths) a major villain twice over within the same continuity. Audiences wouldn't stand for such monotony in a film franchise after it was already so controversial the first time, even if it were only to be done in the expanded media next time.
Megatron in transomers 👀
The dark side of the force is a pathway to abilities some consider unnatural.
Well, you never know if he’ll return again.
Disney: You underestimate my power!
I don't want him back but I would be interested to see the galaxy learn from its mistakes!
Palpatine is my favourite character
I wasn’t surprised that Palpatine came back in TROS since it’s in his nature to obtain power. I agree he shouldn’t have been brought back into the film with Transfer Essence. But I hope he doesn’t comeback into future Star Wars content post TROS.
His death in TROS was awful so I hope they give him a better one.
Nice Video :)
Sheev is like that shirt that doesn't fit you anymore, but every time you go through your old clothes you can't bring yourself to sell or donate it.

Ryley18 yep
Wyatt Claibourne they’ll do anything just to make money
Big NO to Palpatine returning a third time. However, a Palpatine prequel/anthology movie? Featuring him and Plagueis training? Hell yes!
Honestly, I think Return of the Jedi should have been the 'and they all lived happily ever after' ending to the saga.
Regardless of where his spirit goes after essence transfer, his spirit will still be in the galaxy, and could theoretically inhabit any grown clone body (at least temporarily). Plus anyone notice that Palpatine wanted Rey to kill him, then she does that and nothing happens?
Indoshon Studios she didn’t kill him he killed himself
@@EvilPurpleDragon Either way he died by her hand. And because of a lack of prior explanation of how Palatine was going to complete his plans, we don't really know if dieing by her hand really counts. Plus it seems kinda lazy, like Palatine didn't die because Rey did something clever, he just died because he didn't stop shooting lighting at him self.
Light rises. And the darkness will rise to meet it.
Long live the Empire!
Palpatine met his end in ROTJ along with the rest of the Skywalker saga.
I agree that he's gone for good this time, yeah. If there's going to be another Sith resurgence in the future, I hope it comes from someone far more frightening, and arguably more powerful...Darth Nihilus.
A character without a personality can't be more frightening. Nihilus is a just about as charismatic as a rock formation.
He’s probably gone for good but who’s to say he didn’t train another apprentice? There were plenty of Sith worshippers on Exogul. Maybe if he or she survived they will wait to take revenge on Rey and her new Jedi order down the road.
When Palpetine gets powered up the force Diad, why do his clothes change to red?
I think him returning works well, it just could've been more explicit on screen. The movie itself needed more pacing, and Palpatine's return is included in that.
NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS!
I don't like how they ruined past achievements jut for the sequel trilogy
Ex: republic has been formed, DESTROYED. The empire got destroyed, RETURNS. Anakin fulfils his prophecy, TURNS OUT HE DIDN'T.
Anakin (in TROS to Rey): Bring back the balance Rey, as I did.
His destiny was fulfilled
POE: yes! the emperor is dead... again... maybe, and all the badguys are gone and we can all be one big happy new-new republic
the fleet: say what?
POE: a- a new-new epublc
the fleet: yeeeeeeeh, thing is we came here to beat on old palpy. we don't belive in your epublic cruseade as the new-republic failed us and the old republic became the empire sooooooo, wide pass.
POE: but- but peace in the galaxy! and!
the fleet: yeh, you see a few first order ships jumped off anyways, forging little warlord states and as for our fleet we'e already tearing one and other apart.
POE: bu- bu- but we have a jedi-
the fleet: you mean a palpatine that we'll never ever trust. pfft sure, keep that contamination away from us while we participate in our galaxy-wide civil war over eveything.
POE: bu- bu- but peace?
the fleet: oh poe.... peace is a lie. now if you dont mind i'mma blow up that mon'cala ship over there because of their worlds alligences during the clone wars.
*mass carnage ensues, beging the galactic dark ages*
POE: this.... cannot get any worse
The Nihil: WE'RE BACK BABY!!! THE TERROR THAT BROUGHT THE HIGH REPUBLIC TO ITS KNEES!!!
and thus should be the sagas going forwards: star wars the galactic dark age saga. No need for sith plotting when you've burnt the foundations upon which all galactic civilization was built on.
To see are future, We must know are past.
