I saw the explanation on V-Log days after I saw TROS, about Palpy's telling Anakin that death can be cheated in ROFTS. And later I found out that the Sith have been obsessed with immortality.
It’s honestly crazy how in spite of Palaptines planning that spanned over half a century through scheming, manipulation, corruption, and the dark secrets of the Sith in an attempt to achieve eternal rule over the galaxy, he still failed all because of the love between a family.
You know what I love about this channel? You always make normally boring stuff (for me at least) very fun. As a plus I learn something new that helps me enjoy star wars more.
You always make everything in the sequels so interesting. Something I can never have time to do. I also wouldn't have said different than what Poe said about how Palpatine returned since I bet he never knew how either.
I'm gonna be that guy. Palpy returning makes perfect sense. "Somehow Palpatine has returned....things only the Sith knew" is everything we need. Let's get real, shall we? When talking Star Wars. And by SW I mean THE FILMS...not shows, books, reference guides, games, or comics...THE FILMS - exposition has always been left at bare minimum. The OT was DESIGNED as to not have tons of expository dialogue and explanations for everything. Even the PT follows this, just somewhat to a lesser extent. Do we really want or need some jumble of techno/spiritual babble explaining how Palpy survived? Really? The most acclaimed scene in the PT and one of the most acclaimed scenes in the saga in general is the speech Palpy gives Anakin at the opera in ROTS. Y'know, where Palpy deadass tells us he knows how to cheat death using the Dark Side? How much more blatantly obvious can you get? We've known Palps knows dark Sith magic for years and years. When he finally uses it suddenly it's not enough for people?
They outright say he used cloning and Sith secrets to survive. Later in the film, he talks about transferring his spirit into a different body, so it's not hard to piece things together.
I get where your coming from and to an extent I agree, still a little more information would be nice to give 9 alittle more weight. Because by itself well...... Just saying it could use the help.
*“The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be…unnatural.”* When Palpatine said that to Kylo I immediately knew what he meant all the way back in Revenge of the Sith when he talked with Ben’s grandfather about the possibility of using the dark side to cheat death itself. It would’ve been so easy to have Palpatine explain it in an exposition dump of meaningless mumbo jumbo. I have my issues with the Rise of Skywalker but I appreciate how it knows the audience is smart enough to pick up on these. Sometimes all it takes is just one line.
Awesome video! I always thought that Palpatine's return in TROS was rushed, and wasn't given sufficient explanation, but this video allowed me to understand it a lot more. Great job, and I'm excited to watch your future content!!👍
What a spectacular video. I've heard or read most of this before, but having it all condensed and organized into a single digestible timeline is very eye-opening and helps it all fall into place. Kudos to you and hanotsrii.
There's a kind of ambiguity in canon about whether Palpatine really wanted Kylo as a host. It seems like he only considered Rey suitable, and used reverse psychology on Kylo in the same way he feigned a motive with the Nemoidians in TPM (Sign the treaty!:Kill the girl!). It seems he wanted Kylo more as his Sith apprentice/errand boy.
While that’s possible and in character, Palpatine told Pryde that “the Princess of Alderaan has altered my plans” after Ben Solo was redeemed. I don’t think he was putting all his eggs in one basket.
I started to have a feeling Palpatine might return ever since the sentinel droid showed up in battlefront 2. I actually was thinking to myself “it kinda feels like he’s back to life or something” seeing Palpatine’s face on that sentinel droid.
I mean, just look at the 2020 run of Vader comics. They’re doing some crazy and fun stuff with the lore introduced in Rise of Skywalker! Ochi, Eye of Webbish Bog, Exegol, so much cool stuff.
GREAT VIDEO @The Gold Man! Personally, I always liked Palpatine's return, and as many have already said on here, this video made me appreciate it even more! But what I especially liked, and this very much mirrors my comment on one of your previous videos, is that you went out of your way to read this article AND make a 44-minute video based on this topic you did not really like to begin with. MAD RESPECT for that, The Gold Man! VERY RARELY do you see people who will change the way they think about a certain subject, ESPECIALLY Star Wars fans, but seeing that you at least went out to make a video explaining his return REALLY shows your growth as both a fan and a person. Without a doubt, you have EASILY become my favorite Star Wars UA-camr! (Tried to keep this comment as short as I could after writing a short essay last time, LOL!)
I'm not exactly a fan of the sequels, but I appreciate them trying to fill in the plot holes they dug when making the last film. Good documentary, but I will point out that there was never meant to be a single "Last Jedi," as you describe Rey at 36:16, but it is actually meant to be the plural Jedi. I only discovered this myself when I saw the Spanish title was "Los Ultimos Jedi". I know it's a small nitpick, but I just like to spread awareness of this fact.
Great video I never minded palpatine coming back if anything I thought it was cool to end the saga with the person that started the saga. My only problem is that it happened out of nowhere even though the movies didn't explain you managed to. Props man
Well technically a resistance mechanic said that Palpatine probably cloned himself and that Palpatine said the dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider unnatural, but in my opinion that’s still not good enough (even for casual viewers as well) Also I liked TROS but it annoyed me that Palpatine Return made his contingency in the books and comics and battlefront 2 campaign (operation cinder, letting only worthy imperials travel to the unknown regions like Sloane cuz he wanted the Empire to die with him, and last Jedi incredible cross sections stating how Palpatine had shipyards built in the unknown regions that the first order inherited) a bit annoying but I guess Palpatine wasn’t sure his only clone using old technology would 100% work (which it kinda didn’t as he was rapidly decaying and needed that machine to hold him) Anyway, sorry for long comments, keep up good work
I felt the film did a good job at leaving clues at how he returned, while keeping it ambiguous enough to not diminishing the mystique of Sith arcana; He’s surrounded by cloning pods maintained by Sith cultists, hooked up to medical equipment, and the film later establishes the idea of spirit transference to willing or vulnerable hosts. The Death Star Destroyers look like OT Star Destroyers to indicate that Palpatine had these plans in his back pocket for years. If he was just chilling on the Sith Throne as if nothing happened, I’d be more annoyed that we didn’t get a more thorough explanation, but looking at his decrepit body, you can tell he went through hell and back. Point is, they did more to explain it than “sOmEhOw.”
@@thegoldman25 Another thing I disagree with was that Rey got off of becoming all of the Sith because she killed Palpatine out of love; I think it’s intentional that Rey assumed a defensive stance and merely deflected Palpatine’s power back at him. Palpatine’s own power did himself in. It’s a brilliant echo to Luke’s last stand on Crait.
I don't think his return is a big deal, I'm ok with it. Darth Bane, Vitiate, and Marka Ragnos attempted spirit transfer with more or less success, hell, his master Darth Plagueis was an architect in similar matters - and cloning was also a huge part of Star Wars Legedns as well - so why couldn't Palpatine try it? Some say his return destroys the Prophecy of the Chosen One but let's be real here, both canon and EU did that already and it was always a vague thing that nobody really took seriously neither in and out of universe. Problem is Palps told his plan to the only person who could ruin it - that being Rey. I'm not a fan of the opening crawl telling about him messaging the entire galaxy that he's alive. What strategy is that? Wouldn't it be more sensible to attack without warning?
Palpatine’s return always made sense, tbh. Cloning, dark science, the Darkside, essence transfer, etc. That’s more than enough to explain the return of Palpatine, especially when we have Maul and Boba who just return from death with ZERO explanation.
@@thegoldman25 Remember that context has never been Star Wars strength as the whole damn prequel trilogy needed an eight season tv show just to example from Episode 2 got to Episode 3.
@@thegoldman25 Palpatine Is a dark lord archetype with mysterious Power , his return makes much more sense than the return of Boba , a bounty Hunter without Supernatural abilities
I mean there isn't ANY proper explanation in the movie. Poe doesn't know the explanation so that scene wasn't it. Also I think it makes perfect sense with the canon media.
I think the audience is expected to be keen enough to take in the context clues. There were plenty of lines and events that hinted to what happened. I like that over a 10 minute scene of cheesy exposition
I've seen all the movies and TV shows (live and animated) multiple times, I've read a small dozen of Canon Books, I played a couple of SW video games, I'm on wookiepedia several times a week. But never have I learned so much in so little time. Thank you sir for all this
I didnt know half of the things that you said that took place after ROTJ. The sequels brought a lot of stuff, though they could of spelled it out more in the movies
I've never really had a problem with it, but this really helps make the timeline clear. It's obvious the amount of work that went into this video, so thank you!
Good video. It’s crazy to think that Palpatine planned his contingency plan long before the clone wars and the rise of the empire. Now I wonder when he did exactly discover Exegol and met the sith cultist. Hopefully we will learn more.
When I first saw the movie and it revealed Palpatine to have returned, I immediately know that his soul was within a clone because that's how they did in Dark Empire and made no sense to change it. Thus I was never minded the lack of a proper explanation within the film itself as I already guess how he'd returned. I also always guessed that Palpatine would return once more after I learned about the board strokes of the Contingency. My reasoning being that Palpatine would never create another empire if he wasn't the one ruling it, thus I guessed that he was behind the First Order.
I love this. I love everything in Exegol. The audience has to do the work and put the pieces together. There’s no hand holding in that world building and I honestly think the movie is better for it. All I needed was “the dark side is a pathway to many abilities that some consider to be unnatural.”
This is all so cool and I love how comics and new lore have affected older Star Wars such as palpatine in return of the Jedi. We just now know that he was trying to take Luke’s body, not just turn him as it’s been for decades. I wish the sequels had actually gone into this story rather than skimming it and rushing through a lot. This would have made the sequels so much better. Focus less on characters such as rose and Finn and more on palpatine plan and how it influenced all 3 films
If Palpatine tasked Ochi to apprehend Rey when she was just a kid, why would he want her dead in TLJ? If he knew about her when she was a little girl then he didn't only come to find out about her when "there was an awakening in The Force" either. Edit- also, if Palpatine had such a strong connection with Kylo (evidenced by him being all the voices inside his head) as well as Snoke being a proxy for Palpatine, why wouldn't Palpatine be aware of the Force Dyad when they're together in Snoke's throne room? Why wouldn't he have become aware of it when the connection between Rey & Kylo was first established in TFA? Somehow he only becomes aware of it when they're standing together right in front of him? Also, how is Kylo aware of the dyad before Palpatine supposedly becomes aware of it?
It's always funny to me that people will make fun of the sequels for not explaining it and using "Somehow Palpatine returned" as a way to make fun of it, then literally like the next line they tell you how it happened "Dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith knew", which for me in the context of the movie is all you really need to know, anything deeper is for expanded material and TV shows to go over
I get that his return makes sense on paper when you include video game & book source material, but that doesn't excuse how his return was poorly explained in TROS. The saga films and live action shows are the main source of Star Wars info for a lot of people who don't read the novels or play the games. So for them his return will still be confusing until a show or film explains it.
I think the Sith Eternal will be covered more in the Star Wars Hidden Empire comic series. In Star Wars Hidden Empire volume 4, Sidious and Vader started their final showdown against Qi'ra and Crimson Dawn at the Amaxine Station. Qi'ra asked the Knights of Ren for help because the Sith are targeting the Knights of Ren for helping Qi'ra and for raiding Vader's Castle. I think the Knights of Ren will betray Qi'ra and be recruited by Sidious to be his enforcers and be part of his First Order and Snoke Plan. It is likely the Sith Lord in the Fermata Cage is the original "Snoke" before the cloning of Snoke began. This would make sense as the Amaxine Station became one of Snoke's personal sanctuaries. Sidious is the Emet Selch (ua-cam.com/video/qc0aiesT9D4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Daktyl) of Star Wars. It is unknown if Sidious actually died in Rise of Skywalker and we know Matt Smith was rumored to play a young Sidious. It was also never confirmed with the Sith Eternal really fell. Sidious never cared for the Known Galaxy and his primary interest is the Unknown Galaxy. It is unknown if Sidious made allies in the Unknown Galaxy such as the Grysk (Canon's Yuuzhan Vong), Light Side Entities, and Dark Side Entities. Sidious will always be remembered as the Sithiest Sith and the greatest Sith in existence.
I actually liked the idea of Palpatine returning. I think it’s very in line with his character motivations. I just don’t agree with how it played out but that’s nothing new
I wish any of this would have been lain out in some way in the actual movies… like, I love to dig for hidden lore sometimes but I also want to know what’s going on with the film I’m watching and have things make sense in that self contained story.
Palpatine ALWAYS had a backup for his backup for a backup for a backup & will absolutely seduce Rey to the Dark side now that the Dyad is broken. Like Voldemort/Dr Manhattan he's going to Reformat into a new incarnation & up his game even more.
From what we've seen in The Mandalorian, the Imperial Remnant was still trying to perfect their cloning techniques years after ROTJ. The twisted bodies we see in the vats seem to clearly be meant to be prototype versions of Snoke. So it's weird that in the Vader comics there are already much more developed Snokes in the vats on Exegol during the period of Empire Strikes Back if I'm following you correctly. That just seems to make everything all the more convoluted. Also if the Imperial Remnant/beginnings of the First Order were not in league with Palpatine, then why would they still be working on making a suitable clone for him years after his defeat? Edit- the cloning subplots in Mando as well as likely Bad Batch season 2 have me excited for things to come. I think Filoni & co. might draw inspiration from both Dark Empire & Heir to the Empire with both the upcoming seasons for these shows. The Ahsoka series could very well tie into all that as well, as it's all but confirmed that Thrawn will play a role in that show. It'll be quite the trick if they're able to blend these fan-favorite Legends stories with the new canon in a way that enriches the Sequel Trilogy to the extent Clone Wars added to the Prequels.
When Palpatine's return is a watered-down version of Dark Empire and needs external sources because the film couldn’t stand on its own merits. Yeah... Disney SW is fucking trash.
The frustrating thing about all of this, is there are some really interesting ideas here. Like, a story revolving around Palpatine's secret contingency plan/the dark side of the force as it deals with resurrection could have been really cool if it was well developed properly. As interesting as some of these details might be, you know they were all just made up after the movie came out to try and fill in plot holes left by ROS shitty script. At the end of the day JJ just rushed out a script because he didn't know what else to do. I can't pretend like this was all thought out ahead of time when it clearly wasn't. It wasn't the concept of Palpy coming back that sucked, it was the botched execution. And that blame rests on disney as a whole for not planning out the three movies like they should have.
TCW never saved the prequels. Some would even say that it betrayed them. But this is a common idea among those who have forgotten to rewatch the films to realize that they are good and entirely coherent.
I just finished watching the whole video. But I do have a quick question. You mention that Palpy wanted to rule through Ren by transferring his essence into him. And I do think that was his intent until he discovered that Rey was still alive. But her force powers only started to manifest at the end of TFA and into TLJ which (at most) probably only took place over a few weeks. So it might not have been until the end of the events of the TLJ that he put 2+2 together and realized who she was. And then made her his priority again. He might have had his eye on Ben. But when his son fathered a child who was his exact match he tried to get his hands on his granddaughter. Until she disappeared and he focused on Ren again. Whatever the case, I am guessing that a host body with his genetics would work easier and be more successful than someone who was un-related, which is why I think that he wanted Rey. But great analysis and video! I never understood why Snoke was killed off like that, put now it makes complete sense.
I am so surprised why so many people are angry or have problem with Palpatine's returne. He acually told Anakin that he knew how to cheat death, because of that his returne made perfect sense to me. Force ghosts exist, I am sure Obi Wan and Yoda could've come back if they would've used the dark side and cloning tech. Palpatine says to Grevious (the robot with a beatig heart and two arms he could split into four arms) after the robot mentions Dooku's death "I have a new prentice," he even feels the need to metion that the prentice is much younger than Dooku, why would that matter if he didn't plan on using that younger body in some way. This is one of few dialogs in the Prequels that make any sense.
@@thegoldman25 probably. Luke and Leia being twins came out of nowhere after episode IV as well as Anakin being Vader and therefor the father of Luke and Leia. The originals were not planned anymore than the Sequels, so lack of planning is nothing new when it comes to Star Wars. I know you are aware of this, I just wanted to point it out. I have my problems with ROS, Palpatine's return is not one of those problems. ROS is my least favourite Sequel movie, I believe it could've been so much better but I am ok with what we got. I think the time limit (how long the movie could be) is one of the biggest problems, I think there wasn't enough time to finish this story in a propper way. The Sequels are my favourite trilogy, TLJ is the best one in my opinion, it is acually my favourite movie. You pointed out all the reasons for why I love that movies so much in a video you made. I love that video by the way.
If they had a more creative story regarding his return, and made it clear that he was returning from The Force Awakens onward. I might've accepted his brief return in Rise of Skywalker. Plus since he returned in the Thrawn trilogy (the legends thrawn trilogy) and not that many fans got that upset there. Making Sheev Palpatine come back from the dead could've been really cool.
I mean…LucasFilm also said that fans could basically pick and choose what they consider canon…so yeah… Personally I don’t have a problem with the CONCEPT of Palpatine’s return, but I do have a serious problem with the story (if you want to charitably call it that) that was told with that return.
@@zekenator8988 this I agree with. It's clear that LFL laid seeds of the possibility of Palpatine's return throughout canon prior to the development of The Rise of Skywalker. So in that sense, I have no problem that they essentially adopted the Legends "Dark Empire" storyline in a film. My largest issue is that narratively when continuing from the previous two films it was just JARRING. If they wanted this to be the endgame, then they really needed a showrunner to oversee the whole story of the sequel trilogy. IMHO, this is mostly on JJ. He should have focused on continuing storythreads organically from TLJ rather than trying to shoehorn ideas on what HE THOUGHT would happen when developing TFA. Instead, The Rise of Skywalker spends much of its time answering questions we already had answers to from TLJ and suddenly bringing the Emperor back. That being said, I've made my peace with it. Ian McDiarmid is a Galactic-treasure and was a highlight of the film for me. I love him as Palpatine.
I feel like a lot of Star Wars viewers would have liked a lot of big infodumps in expository dialogue or scenes explicitly showing everything that they might wonder about. I guess that's what Star Wars is to some people, visual versions of wookieepedia entries rather than stories about emotions and characters with lots of elements of the story left ambiguous and mysterious. But that's how Star Wars has always been. It's a feature, not a bug of the sequel trilogy.
Maul had already been replaced by the time he shows up in the clone wars. He was not apprenticed to palps at the same time as Dooku. He allowed dooku to train savage and ventress as sith assassins not as true sith apprentices hence him telling dooku to kill ventress. The inquisitors were also servants of the sith and not sith
@@thegoldman25 Yeah we do it was the death of qui-gon that was the final straw for dooku. Maul gets chopped in half and the Jedi chose to keep the return of the sith a secret from the rest of the galaxy which dooku also disagreed with. But it’s made pretty clear in a few canon sources that the death of his former apprentice and the choice by the Jedi to keep it a secret lead to his fall after maul had already been defeated and discarded
@@ybmsimba2410 not exactly correct. It's clear from both Dooku - Jedi Lost AND Master and Apprentice that Dooku had already been flirting with the darkside (and no, I am not implying he was a Sith initiate at that point). It's also clear that The Clone Wars episode "The Lost One" clearly shows that Dooku was working with Sidious during Vallorum's chancellorship. Furthermore, Dave Filoni confirms this in an interview about the episode. You can see it here: www.starwars.com/video/the-lost-missions-q-and-a-sifo-dyas-and-the-sith. So yes, Sidious had two apprentices (in Maul and Dooku) at the same time...straight from the horse's mouth. Regarding, the Sith assassins and the Inquisitors, you are correct they are not Sith in the sense that they were Sith Lords (that's not the point that is being made). When the Sith Eternal cult was revealed in The Rise of Skywalker sooo many people got up-in-arms about how the concept violated the Rule of Two as if it were some sort of unforgivable sin. The point my piece and, in-turn, this video is trying to make is that DESPITE the Rule of Two, Sidious and other Sith Lords always had agents working on their behalf INCLUDING Force-sensitive agents like Ventress, Oppress, the Inquisitorius, and the Knights of Ren. So having a cabal of Sith cultists doesn't violate the Rule of Two anymore than those earlier examples. You're also not exactly correct on Dooku's intentions. It's pretty clear throughout the Clone Wars that he had designs to usurp Sidious (per Sith tradition) and that he intended to use Savage as a tool in that design (especially after Sidious told him to kill Ventress).
I think it’s strange how Palpatine use force lightning but Vader never did…Not Once! Palpatine perhaps never taught it to Vader or Vader didn’t want to? I think Sheev never taught Anakin how to use it because Palps knew Vader could kill him with it.
You know, I forget how infuriating new movies should look to each subsequent generation of SW viewers. It's like "holy shit who's that dude - what, Boba who now - oh never mind he's dead - i wonder who it was - hey what's a mandalorian?" and then "they made Boba Fett a clone of another dude who by some magic coincidence was the original for the entire Republic army? well that's lame" (a thought that never occurred to me because I grew up with the prequels and it just was natural for me). Or, "omg this emperor guy is super boring, no background, no personality - just evil laughter and lightnings from his hands, how stupid do they think we are to just roll with it? how about give the main villain to whom we've been going for three goddamn movies some bare minimum of depth LUCAS?" Or, "well that Tarkin guy was intriguing at the start but he really went up in smoke didn't he". Or, "wait what - you're telling me that C3PO OF ALL THINGS was actually created by *gasp* little Darth Vader himself LUCAS WHAT THE FU -- " Guess that I from the start should have known better than to demand detailed background from the movies. If you want to know the details - welcome to the expanded universe. It's just that you really get used to movies that tell you everything that at least concerns the main plot of the entire story arc, and I didn't know whether to feel angry with the sequels for not doing that, but I'm kinda resigned now. I really was ok with the OT and the PT, so how is this any different? The only thing for me to find out now is, how ON EARTH did SW universe so subtly become that priveleged, I mean it's the only movie series that doesn't feel like it has to explain shit, and everyone is angry at them for a time and then they just aren't, and in the meantime, the executives, like, dab lazily while counting the franklins. Jesus Christ that's really impressive if you think about it Thanks for the video is what I'm saying. It really saved me some work I might not have found pleasant
I mean there is an explanation in canon, but it was definetly not planned and carried out poorly. I mean somehow palpatine returned is probably worse than the I don’t like sand dialogue sequence.

Thank you so much for showing your support, comments like these mean a lot to me. And don't worry about length, i love long comments!
Thank you for watching! With "The Last Jedi" at the end of the movie rey is no doubt the only jedi left (since Luke is dead)

Very cool, detailed, and informative video! Great job.
Glad you liked it!
That intro was great. Welcome back man
Thank you!
Excellent video altogether!
Pulling everything together to really give us a sense of what Sidious’ whole deal was through the saga
Well technically a resistance mechanic said that Palpatine probably cloned himself and that Palpatine said the dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider unnatural, but in my opinion that’s still not good enough (even for casual viewers as well)
Also I liked TROS but it annoyed me that Palpatine Return made his contingency in the books and comics and battlefront 2 campaign (operation cinder, letting only worthy imperials travel to the unknown regions like Sloane cuz he wanted the Empire to die with him, and last Jedi incredible cross sections stating how Palpatine had shipyards built in the unknown regions that the first order inherited) a bit annoying but I guess Palpatine wasn’t sure his only clone using old technology would 100% work (which it kinda didn’t as he was rapidly decaying and needed that machine to hold him)
Anyway, sorry for long comments, keep up good work
dont apologize for long comments, thanks for watching!
Great video! Really gives more depth into the Star Wars lore and Palpatines return
Thank you!
Point is, they did more to explain it than “sOmEhOw.”
you make some great points!
I love the new style in the first 2 minutes

Same here. It makes the videos even better than they already are.
I will try, but it’s not that easy
This Palpatine plan was actually incredible, I wish they planned this better before making the new movies
Palpatine’s return always made sense, tbh. Cloning, dark science, the Darkside, essence transfer, etc. That’s more than enough to explain the return of Palpatine, especially when we have Maul and Boba who just return from death with ZERO explanation.
all 3 are kinda weak

Thank you so much for watching!
I mean there isn't ANY proper explanation in the movie. Poe doesn't know the explanation so that scene wasn't it. Also I think it makes perfect sense with the canon media.
It's a shame the movie left out so much material
I think the audience is expected to be keen enough to take in the context clues. There were plenty of lines and events that hinted to what happened. I like that over a 10 minute scene of cheesy exposition

Good video. It’s crazy to think that Palpatine planned his contingency plan long before the clone wars and the rise of the empire. Now I wonder when he did exactly discover Exegol and met the sith cultist. Hopefully we will learn more.
I think we will learn more
When I first saw the movie and it revealed Palpatine to have returned, I immediately know that his soul was within a clone because that's how they did in Dark Empire and made no sense to change it.
You make a good point about his contingency, Palpatine would never have a plan for a new empire if he couldn't rule it
What a fantastic video, thanks Goldman & reddit guy.
I now want to rewatch the sequels with all this knowledge.
Glad you enjoyed it! Let me know what you think of the sequels on your rewatch!
palpatine basically swapped characters in a lego game
i love the lego movies
I love this. I love everything in Exegol. The audience has to do the work and put the pieces together. There’s no hand holding in that world building and I honestly think the movie is better for it. All I needed was “the dark side is a pathway to many abilities that some consider to be unnatural.”
omg I can't believe Oatchi the rescue pup was a Sith accomplice!

Thanks!
So how does the Chosen One Prophecy play into all of this?
This is all so cool and I love how comics and new lore have affected older Star Wars such as palpatine in return of the Jedi. We just now know that he was trying to take Luke’s body, not just turn him as it’s been for decades. I wish the sequels had actually gone into this story rather than skimming it and rushing through a lot. This would have made the sequels so much better. Focus less on characters such as rose and Finn and more on palpatine plan and how it influenced all 3 films
Excellent podcast you do great work happy new year
Same to you!
Great breakdown and opinions
You really shouldn't have to read a long Reddit post or do research to understand a movie. It should all be contained in the film.
This was awesome!
not as awesome as this comment!
This is a great return

@@thegoldman25 Thor Skywalker should watch this
Great video my friend, this must have taken you a lot of time! MTFBWY! 😊
It did take me a while, thank you for watching!
100% agree
Imagine plotting your revenge for 30 years just to get defeated by the power of friendship
I actually liked the idea of Palpatine returning. I think it’s very in line with his character motivations. I just don’t agree with how it played out but that’s nothing new
In my opinion, from a storytelling aspect, legends was much better in flushing out the sith. I’m not a big fan of the force bond in the current canon
I wish any of this would have been lain out in some way in the actual movies… like, I love to dig for hidden lore sometimes but I also want to know what’s going on with the film I’m watching and have things make sense in that self contained story.
does that hand imply the of luke luuke in cannon?
The Gold Man’s back!
Meesa Back!
This is mind-blowing stuff
i hope you enjoyed!
If they could only put all of this in a canon Star Wars TV show, the sequels could be saved, as the prequels were saved by TCW.
Agreed!
I never understood why Snoke was killed off like that, put now it makes complete sense.
you make a good point, could definitely be true tbh
Great video
Great comment
I think it bothers people that it wasn’t planned and it just came out of no where in the 9th movie
I 100% agree with this
I mean…LucasFilm also said that fans could basically pick and choose what they consider canon…so yeah…
Personally I don’t have a problem with the CONCEPT of Palpatine’s return, but I do have a serious problem with the story (if you want to charitably call it that) that was told with that return.
im somewhat with you
@@zekenator8988 this I agree with.

They were sith all but in name, and when i ask about dooku and maul, we dont know when Dooku began as palpatine's apprentice (at least in the canon)

I think it's because Vader's suit made him unable to use lightning. I could be very wrong so double check me
You know, I forget how infuriating new movies should look to each subsequent generation of SW viewers.
Or, "omg this emperor guy is super boring, no background, no personality - just evil laughter and lightnings from his hands, how stupid do they think we are to just roll with it? how about give the main villain to whom we've been going for three goddamn movies some bare minimum of depth LUCAS?"
Or, "well that Tarkin guy was intriguing at the start but he really went up in smoke didn't he". Or, "wait what - you're telling me that C3PO OF ALL THINGS was actually created by *gasp* little Darth Vader himself LUCAS WHAT THE FU -- "
Guess that I from the start should have known better than to demand detailed background from the movies.
