My problem with Ben's character is that he acts insane. He does things for no reason. He's still probably the best part of the sequel trilogy, but that's not saying much
Yeah, it’s just the sequels that people hate. OT is the original, and the prequels had new storylines and villains that people could like. The sequels are just there for Disney to cash in with a really poorly written female lead (Don’t get me wrong I want a good female lead “cough” Ahsoka, Hera, Sabine, ventriss, leia, bastilla Shan, etc. , Rey is just so bad) Prequels were ok but at least they had original plots and characters designs and ideas. I really wish I could love the sequels, :(
@@ThatneGuy-wi8od You mean except for when they let an acclaimed auteur director make a genuinely unique and challenging movie designed to shake up the franchise and introduce new ideas to the mix, and the Internet fanboys collectively lost their shit like never before and STILL won't shut up about how much they hate it after over two years have passed. Seriously, I hate defending Disney here, but what were they supposed to do? They made TFA, which was quite good if not great, and everyone said "Waahhh, it's too much like the OT!" So they let Rian Johnson go with TLJ, making *the* most thematically complicated and game-changing film in the franchise, and everyone said "Waahhh, it changed too much!" So no wonder they had no goddamn idea what the fans wanted from Episode 9. They were trying to please an army of Goldilockses who probably could never have been satisfied.
@@jasonblalock4429 Yes! This exactly! And now that everybody has decided they hate TLJ, I see comments everywhere about how great TFA was and the following movies should have been the same. Selective memory because I remember at the time everybody hated it!
@@MsMaggyW And the saddest part of all is that if they'd just stuck to their guns and let Trevorrow make his "Duel of the Fates" it would have probably been pretty good - at least - and tied the trilogy together in a cohesive way. But no, they panicked and listened to a bunch of angry online commenters when they should have just followed their instincts.
Star Wars fans logic: TFA: Boo this movie is a remake of ANH Star Wars needs to be different! TLJ: Boo this movie was completely different why did they make it different? Star Wars movies needs to be how we want according to our fan theories even if it doesn’t make sense. Also this is the WORST movie ever. Worse than AOTC but I won’t explain how because I have no real reason, just believe me. TROS: Boo this movie is way too predictable. Why did they listen to us and make our fan theories come true? Star Wars is ruined! MUH CHILDHOOD IS RUINED!
@@ilikepigeons6101 The _only_ thing JJ retconned was Rey's parents because theres no hint whatsoever to her being a Palpatine and his excuse was "What could she hear thats worse?". JJ continued everything else.
I just have to say respect to you for finding so much to love about a movie you had some issues with. Seriously, with all the negativity that's going around, seeing a video like this is honestly so refreshing and I can't help but appreciate that. I liked a lot about the movie, even though it went completely against what I hoped for. Exegol was such a cool location, it was very ominious and both scenes where Rey and Kylo make their ways to Sidious were so creepy and tense. Palpatine himself was fantastic, he just sent chills down my spine and the atmosphere of his scenes were just terrifying. Ian McDiarmid really nailed the performance and I'm just happy that his return was handled much more seriously this time around. There were catches attached, he was literally a talking corpse, he did not come back unscathed. And the way he mirrored his own death and cursed the Skywalker line was great. Yeah it sucks to see Ben getting thrown down a hole but that kind of poetic vengence is so fitting for Darth Sidious. The scene with the Force lightning storm was a big WHOA moment but it makes sense; he's on the Sith homeworld where his dark side powers would be amplified, like Ahch To and Force ghosts which is what allows Luke and Yoda to interact with the physical world. Everything with Leia was just perfect, I teared up watching those scenes. It looked so good I almost forgot it was all archieved footage. I loved the fact that she trained Rey after Crait and was overjoyed to learn that she actually did do full on Jedi training with Luke, even building her own lightsaber and that we got to see a glimpse of it. Her passing was also so selfless, so graceful, so fitting for Leia. Which brings me to Ben's redemption. I didn't want it to happen. I wanted him to stay and die on the dark side but it was executed so beautifully that I am more than accepting of it. C-3PO willingly sacrificing his memory for the greater good was hands down one of the best moments for the character. Lando was fantastic, of course he was. Billy D's still got the magic and seeing him and Chewie fly the Falcon was great. Like he's almost 80 years old at this point and he's still getting in the action. Luke's scene with Rey is already one of my favourite Force Ghost scenes, it really shows the progression of his character and gives a good lesson for Rey (or anyone for that matter) who has issues with family. That first line about a Jedi's weapon was PERFECTLY executed by Mark Hamill. But my absolute favourite part of TROS was the Jedi Voices scene. For me it was the moment that brought the prequel, original and sequel trilogies together and I love it. I was so emotional hearing the Jedi of old talking directly to Rey and surprised to hear not just the obvious ones; Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Qui-Gon, but also Ahsoka, Aayla Secura, Kanan, Jedi who were not front and centre in the movies or even from other media. It just really gave this sense of solidarity for all of these characters inspiring Rey to take down Darth Sidious.
its real easy to get behind the dark side of the fandom we all lost our innocents during last jedi it clouded our judgment for solo and 9 especially when kk and her minions attacked the fans but seeing people focusing on the positives gives me A New Hope for starwars
@@StarWarsMarvelPurist Fanbase in star wars is the strangest thing ever. For me it looks they want star wars movie always delivered in some particular way and get super mad if the movie doesn't meet their hyped expectations how a star wars movie should be. I think people who are not huge SW fans enjoy this movie quite a bit. I think scenes and music is tied together very well in this movie. For example, how music is arranged in the scene where Kylo and Rey is dueling on the death star, that is pretty awesome work.
This. More of this. I unsubscribed from a half dozen Star Wars content providers because it just became a drone of negativity and I was honestly tired of it. Celebrate what you love.
Oh man, ugh, yeah. I'm not even subscribed to that many Star Wars-related channels (pretty much this, the official channel, and a couple other things) but apparently loving Star Wars was enough for me to have a period where the Recommended Videos list was just... endless complaint videos. It was frustrating. That's not the way of the Jedi. Yoda schooled Luke pretty hard when he just started complaining. If we dwell upon the weight of that X-Wing we'll never lift it out of the swamp.
Leia’s death, Luke’s lifting of the x wing, Han’s memory, it was all just too emotional for me, I literally cried in the theatre. This was one of my favorite, possibly my favorite Star Wars film.
My favorite scene has to be Palpatine's death as I love how he died and how with his death causes the entire Citadel to crumble, leaving nothing behind to ever rebuild from.
This is another reason you're my favorite Star Wars youtuber. Finding what you love in something you weren't too crazy about instead of being negative about it really sets you apart. I'm a fanboy who pretty much loves everything Star Wars related, and it's nice to find positive videos about it.
Thank You! In a time when the Star Wars fandom has become down right toxic, anything nice about why we love Star Wars is much needed. I wish it wasn’t so hard to explain to people, it’s ok not to like stuff, don’t be a toxic human.
Phillip Alleva-Cox I hate these so called “Sw fans” because these guys are toxic and they missed a lot of things that they should’ve spotted and understand. But no they decided to run their mouths about these films.
i agree the fandom has a really difficult time finding positivity in star wars which sucks. I personally like them all and all of the movie have problems but they all have good as well.
A note on Kylo Ren's rebuilt mask: It's a direct visual reference to the "Kintsugi" style of Buddhist pottery, in which a pot is finished, then *smashed,* and then glued back together with a bright gold glue. It represents change over time, and how one's flaws are actually what defines them. So it's INCREDIBLY appropriate for this movie, reflecting Ren's shattered psyche and how that fuels his overall drive to find his personal identity. It's definitely a win and quite possibly the smartest bit of production design in the entire film.
My only complaint is that I wanted more Rose. She was a very important part of TLJ. And I'm not trolling. I genuinely loved her part. She did more for us than most people realize
I think she got the same treatment as Jar Jar in the Prequel Trilogy of sidelined after the film they are introduced, most likely because the massive vocal backlash to their characters. I just glad that her actress is doing pretty fine and still getting plenty of work, I hope to see her future career.
I love how palpatine looks in the film. In the end when he uses the life force of their bond, I love how his eyes glow more than we’ve ever seen, like the dark side in him cannot he contained
For me, I love Rise of Skywalker quite a bit! I love how the movie opens with Kylo Ren finding the Wayfinder, Palpatine was great to see again despite the lack of explanation, Luke was amazing to see again, C-3PO was funny and great in it, Leia was great and I loved how she handled despite the tragic situation with Carrie, the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren is absolutely amazing and every scene they're in is phenomenal and is the big reason why I love the movie, as well as the characters individually, it's awesome seeing Rey, Finn, and Poe together since we haven't seen them together until Skywalker. And it genuinely felt like an adventure! It has some issues and it does move a bit too fast, but honestly, I loved the movie!
Agreed. Although, I really didnt like the Reylo thing towards the end and the Rey Skywalker thing. Otherwise, I think the movie got far too much hate than it deserved.
@@anonymousproductionsxd2912 I agree. I felt more or less the same way. I didn't hate The Last Jedi as there were a lot of things I liked, but it left me feeling kind of underwhelmed or confused. Rise of Skywalker on the other hand gave me the magic back that Force Awakens had and I was actually pretty happy with it
There's a reason you just don't force rez someone back from the dead. You'd give your life for theirs so it was likely forbidden by the Jedi Order, hence why Rey learned it in the old texts.
He said he would talk about ONLY the good things - no contradiction. The argument is even WITH good things - still not a good film or good SW but it does have good things.
Having recently rewatched it also looking for good things, I see where Alex is coming from here. TROS actually gets a whole lot right at the micro level. Its detail work is frequently great. But it falls down when it comes to all the big-picture storytelling stuff, and that's the problem. The character motivations are terrible, the plot twists don't land, the emotional moments generally hit with a splat. It's kind of unsettling, really, how well-directed individual scenes can be within a narrative that is so terribly constructed. Also, my list of wins is almost identical to his. Which is kinda funny.
@@jasonblalock4429 You're talking about the difference between directing and writing. JJ is a great director. A better storyteller should have written the script.
@@jesserodgers5625 The director is the one ultimately responsible for delivering a *good movie,* full stop, and that most definitely includes the storytelling. "But the script is bad!" isn't an excuse for the director - it's their job to either make it work, or fix it. The only exception would be situations where the studio\producer takes the project away from the director.
Accolades to you. This video was over due. The movie could have been better, but it was far from terrible. I would also enjoy a similarly formatted video for the other movies as well.
You should've included that Rey loses to Kylo AND dies fighting Palpatine. It shows Rey is not perfect and Kylo was truly one of the strongest characters, especially after he became Ben Solo. I think the Rise of Skywalker is truly about Kylo, or at least includes him in the title's meaning. Also, the white gold lightsaber deserves WAY more credit. The detail that it's made from get staff and the color's meaning of balance and protection is one of my favorite parts of the whole sequel trilogy.
Would’ve been better if she had it the whole time. Not using someone else’s lightsaber. She didn’t earn it. Luke built his green lightsaber and used it, same with every other Jedi, Rey just saves it till the end to do absolutely nothing,
@@ThatneGuy-wi8od Did Luke earn his father's blue lightsaber when he basically knew nothing about Jedis? No!!!! Don't look at it as who earns what. Instead maybe who is ultimately worthy of xyz through their later actions.
@@ThatneGuy-wi8od Luke didn't have his own until the final episode of the trilogy, just like Rey. Rey's lightsaber symbolized her progression and future protection of the Jedi secrets, since it's the end of the saga and they're trying it up. In Luke's case, they hadn't expanded the canon idea of kyber crystals and Jedi code yet.
Things I loved about Rise of Skywalker: 1) the Chemistry of Poe, Rey and Finn. I loved how Poe and Rey bicker and Finn's exasperated look and just the overall energy they had. 2) The bound between Rey and Ben/Kylo. I have always loved their bound and how they are two sides of the coin. While Kylo has struggled with the pull to the Light, Rey struggles with the pull to the dark. I wish that Ben solo didn't have to die to find redemption, but That is me. 3) I LOVED the fact that Chewie got his damn medal. I had always thought Chewie had been robbed. and after losing all his friends, he gets the recantation he deserves. 4) I liked the redesign of Kylo Ren's mask... not much more to say. 5) this line of diolouge: "I AM THE SPY!" "...WHAT?!" 6) The handleing of Leia's passing. I thought, with what they had to work with...our princess, a woman of hope, gave her life in the hope she could finally reach out to her son..and she did. 7) the conversation between Han and Ben. the moment he said "Dad." Broke my heart that's all I can think of at the moment. Overall, I loved the squeals. flaws and all.
She didn't have the dagger yet in that scene. Even if she did he still would have gone for the necklace because at this point he's trying to find her and the necklace would have been more valuable in determining her location than a dagger.
Thank you for seeing a movie, having thoughts and feelings about, and deciding to let those simmer down before talking more about it. It's not like this movie has ruined lives, but there are some people who treat movies that they don't like as world ending events, which warrant the oppression and disregard of the people who do enjoy them.
@@johnh7245 yeah, couldn't think of a different word. It's certainly not the same type of put down as out right slavery, or marginalization or disenfranchisement. But there are definitely people who try to discredit others for having a different opinion - trying to make it seem like those people must somehow be lesser (often considering them to be stupid).
A lot of people (especially fans of the people) say that the "everybody can be a hero" message is ruined. The "This is not a navy. These are people" line to me shows that that message really isn't ruined at all. Also, thank you for the positivity!
7:48 I thought it was funny how Force Healing was literally introduced to fans of the SW Universe the week before TRoS came out. The Mandalorian episode from that week was the first time we saw anyone Force Heal someone. 8:17 With the way Lucasfilm and Marvel have put false Easter Eggs in their trailers, the Chewie fakeout had me going for a couple minutes, and I was pretty surprised and kinda devastated. The trailer showed Chewie in the Falcon with Lando, but the trailer for Rogue One also showed Jyn facing down a TIE Fighter. There weren't really any guarantees that anyone would survive to the end of this movie. What kept me from completely breaking down was my out-loud laugh that Finn's scream was higher-pitched than Rey's.
In Australia I genuinely watched that episode of The Mandalorian then went and saw the midnight screening of TROS and when it happened my friend and I looked at each other and we understood each other without words.
In my own head-canon, I've always viewed Obi-Wan laying his hand on Luke's head after he was knocked unconscious by the tusken raider in A New Hope as "force healing".
I happened to notice there were two FO transports earlier, so I didn’t fall for the fakeout. Also, I knew they wouldn’t kill Chewie without showing him.
I love the smirk on Luke's face as he lifted the x wing...self affirming that he finally did it...plus using the exact score from the scene in Empire was perfection.
Hux being a spy is what I loved, it makes sense. He was offered a powerful faction, but was forced to work with someone he hates, throughout the entire time. Seeing someone he hates kill someone that he can always complain to (snoke), and be the new supreme leader, would be devastating af. Kylo ren and Hux are like Megatron and starscream xD
Finally someone else who likes “the dead speak”. I feel like people forgot that this is Star Wars and not No Country for Old Men, it’s supposed to have a silly side.
Oh, I loved that line. I'd been concerned for so long that the sequel trilogy felt more like sci-fi novels than sci-fi movie serials. (Not sure if that makes as much sense as it does in my head.) That line was pure old-fashioned cinema gold.
There was all this speculation of "how is Palpatine going to come back? Is he on the Death Star ruins? With the secret fleet?" and then the movie just starts with "He's back, y'all!" and I weirdly respect that.
I really don't know why people have problem with the line (cough cough Nostalgia Critic cough cough) because they wrote the line not to be serious, but as it overly cheesy which this film seems to celebrate about star wars as goes full over the top star wars
Man, this was a fun watch! I absolutely love both TROS and the entire ST. A bit of lumpy plot stuff isn’t enough to distract me from the energy, emotion, excitement, style and fun of those movies. Thanks for the video!
Thank you! I've been hoping CinemaWins would do an "everything great about TROS" video, so to get your version of one, complete with namedropping CW, was just what I needed! I agree with most of what you said in your review, this movie was fun and I enjoyed it, but I also had a lot of issues with it, and it's not one of my favorite Star Wars movies. But the things I liked about it I REALLY liked, such as finally seeing the trio together and *especially* Kylo's redemption and finally getting to see Ben Solo and how instantly lovable he was. Han and Ben's conversation was my favorite scene in the movie by far, and one of my favorite scenes in SW. So moving and powerful! So nice to see some positivity in the SW fandom for a change!
For sure. Rey has always been one of my favourites, and I love that her faults and worries aren't centred around being tempted to the dark side. She's just fundamentally a good person.
I loved it all. The prequels, the original trilogy, and most of all the sequels. Then again I got into the saga with the force awakens but I love all the lore and your channel is so positive I love it.
I also got into the saga with Force Awakens. I didn't go back and watch the older films until after I saw Rogue One but I was already aware of things like two Death Stars, Luke and Leia being siblings, Anakin becoming Vader, etc..
Same here but I love the Original Trilogy the most, I love the Sequel Trilogy the second most, I love the Anthologies/spinoffs (Rogue One and Solo) 3rd most, and I love the Prequel Trilogy the least but I still love Star Wars overall.
Me as well I love Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy. Also I really like Sequel Trilogy and I did love ending of saga where it all began and Rey taking name Skywalker to honor Skywalker family legacy.
I really do wish that people could stop despising this movie. I absolutely love it, flaws and all. To me, this is the perfect conclusion to not just the Skywalker Saga, but the entirety of Star Wars as a whole. Even though new movies, shows, games, etc, will be released, all of that will eventually lead up to this movie.
Oh I noticed something interesting, this is the first star wars film (I think) where Palpatine actually mentions Leia, though only referring to her as the "Princess of Alderaan". I found that neat
You are hands down my favorite person on UA-cam. I appreciate that you focus on the positive. It would be so easy to make “everything I hate about. . .” videos like everyone else. I’m always confused, like do you HATE Star Wars? There is to much negativity everywhere in the world. So thank you. Your videos put me in the mood for SW trivial pursuit. Every. Single. Time. Thanks again.
Overall good but some are better (TLJ, TFA) and others less so. TLJ I would rank only a little above TFA but some argue TROS is best - can't understand that. But some people argue Revenge of Sith is best period - and that I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND
Thanks for making this video. I've frankly been avoiding any content online about TRoS because I was sick of seeing so much hate for something I love. This movie isn't my favorite by any means, but I enjoyed it, and this video has helped me remember why. Thank you so much
I'm a positive thinking person, and I like most movies I see, just because I concentrate more on the positive aspects than on the negative ones. And it's the same with this movie. I didn't like how Palpatine was brought back, but retrospectively I feel it provided a bracket for all 3 Trilogies. 3 generations of Skywalkers were faced with him. Only the middle one was able to not be seduced by him. And the 3rd generation almost ruined what the ones before had achived. In the end, Rey had all generations of the Skywalkers in her when she defeated him. She was trained by Luke & Leia, she had the life force of Ben, and all the old Jedi (I think that included Anakin?) gave her strength. So all the 3 generations of Skywalkers had their bit in defeating Palpatine for good. And his defeat gave rise to a new Skywalker. And Rey is a Skywalker, because she lives with Bens life force. He is part of her now. I loved that. I like how you don't let the thinks you disliked about this movie get in the way of enjoying things you like about it. It does have its weaknesses, but it does have strengths as well.
I enjoyed TRoS. It was a great film that I felt was a great send-off to the Skywalker Saga. Honestly I only have a few minor complaints. I wish we got more of Rey and Ben together. But I do love the scene where Ben saves her. It immediately reminded me of Darth Plagueis. I totally hated that the Emperor was back. However, his scenes were awesome. While I'm upset he didn't come back sooner, I'm glad Billy Dee came back to play Lando. I absolutely love the fact that Luke had started to train Leia. It makes her powers in The Last Jedi a bit more believable. While I'm upset that we did hear Ahsoka's voice in the voices of the past Jedi, I'm actually pretty surprised we didn't hear Ezra. I'm guessing he's still alive. I love seeing the wreckage of the second Death Star. Seeing those old stormtrooper helmets was an awesome moment and reminded me a bit of the Clone Trooper memorial things in Jedi: Fallen Order (Also please do a lore-play for Fallen Order). I love Rey's new yellow lightsaber. Maybe she'll study both sides of the Force and teach the future Jedi in both sides like Mace Windu. I understand that me liking Rise of Skywalker is a very controversial opinion. But it's an opinion that I am glad to have.
I feel TROS to be the most “action-film” of the films when it came to its opening with the Falcon and the film’s fast pacing. And in a sort of weird way I kinda liked that because it harkened back to how I used to feel about Star Wars as a kid loving all the space battles and not giving a toss about the story and themes. Voices of Jedi’s past was good too.
This video came at the perfect time for me. Just watched TROS last night for the first time since it's release. I still struggl with the choices made, so I wrote a list last night of all my favorite moments and characters it introduced. So you can imagine my surprise and excitement to see you had done the same....and I agree with almost everything you shared. Thanks Alex!
Thank you for this! RoS is one of my favourite Star Wars films, and taking cues from CinemaWins is always a... erm, win. One thing I really love especially in TLJ and RoS is Rey's *consistency* in never really being tempted to join Kylo or the dark side; she gets a bit aggressive/dark a couple times, but never *consciously* is tempted whatsoever. Two moments that really stand out to me is after the fight with Snoke's guards when Kylo starts his speech about them ruling the galaxy and she says "Don't do this, Ben" over top of him, along with the moment mentioned here in RoS about vowing to kill Palpatine. That resolution and confidence to simply be good, even if some of her actions lean dark reminds me of RotJ era Luke, and it's why Rey and RotJ (and sequel) Luke are two of my favourite characters in Star Wars.
Thanks for this! The thing about redemption people often miss: When dealing with human justice systems, you can't know what's truly deep in a person's heart/character. But when it comes to the Force (or God etc), these have to do with cosmic consequences, which ARE directly based on the true inner character of the person without guesswork. So, in human justice (at its best) we are trying to transform an individual through consequences, conditioning, counseling, time, etc. MOST of the time, a real transformation takes lots of time, after which we often allow a person to 'turn themselves around'. It very rarely happens quickly. BUT, it probably does, in very rare cases, happen quickly through major epiphany and breakthroughs. But human justice we can't acknowledge it because it's so rare and we have no ability to see into their 'soul' with perfection. But, with any system truly based on their actual personhood with perfection, sudden transformation could follow with treatment in accord with their new character.
I was super happy with this movie and the whole trilogy. I still get chills when the Jedi talk, when Rey says she is all the Jedi, and Rey Skywalker. Ugh, love Sunflower so much. And good guy Ben is amazing.
I agree too, my man. I realize that I don't have many complaints about this trilogy maybe how Rose was treated is one of my problem with it. However, seeing Palpatine back and him acting like a real Sith Lord then ever before alongside him actually being scary to me for the first time. There is so much to love about this trilogy that too many just seem ignore, glad meet a fellow fan
Honestly, The Rise of Skywalker is my third favorite STAR WARS Episode movie, behind Episode lV and Episode VI. I loved it, I always love when the heroes win the day and save The Galaxy. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, ALWAYS. well done video, btw sir, keep up the awesome work.
What I like: C-3PO D-0 and BB8 Babu Frik Palpatine’s old self back General Pryde The pacing: it’s quick paced and I was never bored The atmosphere of Exegol The chemistry between the characters Voices of the past Boolio’s accent Rose: in the scenes she’s in, I always had a smile on her face The Aki Aki visuals The work from ILM How Leia was handled Kylo Ren’s arc and resolution The battle on the wreckage The scene where Kylo’s helmet is repaired Billy Dee’s mustache There are more of us Pasaana entrance head turn Poe and Zorii’s conversation on the roof Luke’s entrance Red Five Luke and Leia’s training Wicket’s cameo Battle on Exegol What I don’t like: The pacing: It’s too much sometimes. I feel like it works in favor sometimes but I feel it’s overwhelming Rose’s underuse The twist with Rey’s heritage The Chewbacca fakeout death Jannah: nothing is down with her The underuse of Connix
I can believe we’re actually repeating history with the sequels. Everyone who saw it hated it and will rant on it but their kids will end up loving them to death despite their flaws.
I love that you’re being positive. I unfollowed quite a few channels as they all put up their Star Wars super-dump videos. I don’t even care if they were making good points, because they were coming from and giving out negativity. It’s an incredibly cheap move to bandwagon on hate. It matters that you’re trying to make us all stronger, together.
Loved this video! You really encapsulated what I was feeling, but couldn’t put into words! Now riding a second Star Wars hype wave after watching this!
I loved your commentary on this movie. I have to admit, when I first saw this movie in the theater there were several things I was disappointed about by seeing it again at home, I really loved a lot about it and you really hit upon most of it! Keep up the good work!
I admit I personally loved the ending to this movie. Rey didn't even have to say she was a Skywalker but I understand her reasoning with others that she talks to. I like the irony that Palpatine's legacy is what lives on. I wonder what Darth Plagueis the Wise would have thought knowing that Palpatine's decedents would be responsible for destroying the Sith. It would be amazing that they revisit the Plagueis book and add a comment on this and what might happen in his future.
TROS is not my favorite SW movie but I honestly and genuinely enjoy it in spite of all its many flaws, if it succeeds in anything is it reminds me of why I love this franchise, I'm so sick and tired of the hyperbolic negativity in the fandom, also the hypocrisy that I'm willing to overlook the flaws and enjoy what's good about the movie because there is really good stuff that was done with true passion, J.J. didn't wanted people to hate this, no one who has ever made a Star Wars movie did it with malicious intent, ever, nor should we be so vindictive if any of these movies isn't to our liking, it's just movies. There's a difference between not liking a movie and being purposefully malicious in how we express that dislike, and it's sad people are still treating Abrams and Johnson as if they were evil schemers.
In my opinion, every Star Wars movie (and TV show) has its flaws, but is ultimately still a fun experience. I'm still perfectly happy to sit down and binge just... absolutely everything.
Thank you so much for putting this together... I left the cinema with such a mixed bag of emotions after I saw the film, and it's clouded my ability to enjoy Star Wars as a whole ever since. I feel like this video has lifted that cloud, and has returned my love of the franchise to me...
Re: "Force Heaven" One thing that might be helpful in smoothing that out is to keep in mind that while there are some Christian concepts in Star Wars (Virgin Birth, Chosen One prophecies, and some others), the "afterlife" concept that we see in Star Wars has more to do with Buddhism than Christianity. So in some versions of Mahayana Buddhism, there are these beings called Bodhisattvas, who essentially have almost achieved ultimate enlightenment, but instead choose to delay complete enlightenment (becoming one with the cosmic force?) and stick around to help other beings on their path towards enlightenment. I think that rather than thinking of Force Ghosts as "going to heaven," it might make more sense to think of them as sacrificing "Nirvana" in order to remain in the world and offer guidance to others. I think that makes more sense than using a more western concept of "heaven." I'm not a Buddhist and my knowledge of Buddhism is introductory at best so if I've misrepresented or completely missed the point in what I wrote above, my apologies.
That actually makes some level of sense. IIRC some new canon books describe "leaving" the Force to be a Force Ghost as less than pleasant for the person doing it, so that would seemingly fit the Buddhism inspiration (though I am no expert on that religion either, but your description sounds familiar). With that said, even if we assume Christian inspiration, discussion of "deserving redemption" is an utterly meaningless one in Christian context. Christian redemption is not earned, it is given as a gift, based on the premise that literally nobody actually deserves it. Saint Paul was a murderer before he converted, and became both an Apostle and one of the earliest evangelists, so the notion that "repent, and be saved" does not apply to murder is a direct contradiction to the Christian faith. Even ignoring all of that and looking solely at Star Wars lore, Anakin betrayed and slaughtered a bunch of kids who trusted him as essentially a big brother, before he assaulted his own wife and embraced two decades of evil living. There's an argument to be made that Kylo never truly sunk to Vader's level. He certainly wasn't able to ignore his inner conflict over his actions for nearly as long as Vader did.
I see what you mean. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Though from what I can tell from Jedi philosophy, there is no reincarnation, meaning all living things essentially go into "Nirvana" upon death. But like you said, Force Ghosts basically forego that release back into the Force, and retain their identities for the sake of the living. Like Qui-Gon coming to Yoda, or Obi-Wan and Yoda both helping Luke after their deaths, or Luke helping Rey. Which is also why the climax to the movie is so weird to me. It's a secret that only a few Jedi knew, so why are all the Jedi there? That's... confusing. (Also I'm really curious why Ahsoka was there, did she offer to help Luke rebuild the Order and take the Jedi mantle again? Or was it just all Light-Siders? Is this in the novelization somewhere that I should be reading?)
@@Hypershell Christ's Atonement is a free gift to allow the possibility of being saved, but some Christian faiths believe in both faith and works still being necessary to go to heaven. In Paul's case, he served the early Christian Church faithfully for decades after his conversion. Plus, it's very questionable if he ever committed murder in the first place (not that some murderers can't still be redeemed), since he truly believed he was arresting people guilty of blasphemy, only realizing after his vision that they weren't blasphemers after all.
Thank you! I really liked the movie when I saw it in theaters, but I realized that my view of it is souring based on everything people are saying about it. This helped me remember there was a lot of good things to like about it and I shouldn't be embarrassed to like it a lot.
This was sooooooo needed! Thank you! Wow, a glass of fresh water. You didn’t pretend that the movie is perfect but focusing on the good is such a true Star Wars Fan thing to do. Thanks.
After the battle on Exegol is over and the skies are clearing, the sun is coming up, and the resistance ships are leaving, there's this cockpit shot of Poe in his X-wing. He leans over, takes his helmet off, and then looks up. It reminds me of that part in Return of the Jedi when the Super Star Destroyer goes down and you see Admiral Ackbar slump over in his chair. It perfectly communicates the sense of relief and exhaustion on the characters' faces. Except, in The Rise of Skywalker, there's more satisfaction on Poe's face. It's like all of the fighting has finally been worth it. All of the struggling has paid off. I don't know, I just love that moment every time I watch the movie. Also, Oscar Isaac kind of looks like a Disney Prince in that shot.
@@coleschubert9868 are you suggesting Vader is still alive? But I can understand that she could be alive. Still baffled why she'd be in there, but... Yoda himself showed the ability to project to others while still living, in Rebels. (Incidentally, this is both why it made sense that Luke could do it in TLJ, and why I'm confused how it killed him. But maybe it was the lightsaber-cutting-the-projection thing.)
I heard he was originally going to have a cameo on a space-horse but they thought it'd be too confusing to just have him cut some stormtroopers in half out of nowhere.
Finally someone makes something positive about the sequel trilogy. The Rise of Skywalker is the third best Disney Star Wars film(behind Rogue one and Solo yes I find Solo good)
In my opinion, I rank it 1. Rogue One (great. Probably my most rewatched Star Wars movie aside from ANH and RotS) 2. Rise of Skywalker (decent although disappointing for the final episode. Great character moments though which is why I think it’s second best of the Disney movies) 3. Solo (it’s alright but a bit boring at times) 4. Force Awakens (don’t really feel a need to revisit it but it’s not necessarily bad) 5. Last Jedi (not a fan but I get why people like it. Just not for me)
I also loved when Finn discovered he was Force senitive and then he used his newly found abilities to find the Sith star destroyer that controlled the whole fleet when no one else could find it.
It's really easy to pick apart Star Wars movies, ANY Star Wars movie, I think if you truly love the series, maybe take a second to think about everything you loved/liked about every film. It may not make you suddenly enjoy a film you disliked, but it may at least give perspective and allow you to respect those that do.
Thanks so much for making this video. I feel that nowadays you can't have nuanced takes on things you like because the new or core fandom will denouce you if it doesn't align with their sensibilities. As a whole, I do have gripes large and small with the Disney era movies. But I also have gripes with the other films too. Does that make me a "bad" fan? I don't think so. As for the CinemaWins shout out, I agree that it's better to find things you like than focus wholly on the things you dislike. 😁🤘🤘
John H Well you see, that's an opinion, not a fact. I for one consider the prequels to be the three weakest Star Wars films and the only ones I'd consider to be outright bad. Revenge Of The Sith is the best of the three but I still hate it with a passion
I liked TROS, even though it wasn't as great as it could have been (which sums up my feelings for the trilogy as a whole, now that I think about it). But thank you for making this video- this fandom needs this kind of positivity :)
Ben's redemption is on the top for me. How they were able to use Carrie's passing, and honor both her and her character where great.
That part made me cry. Along with lando showing up with the resistance Armada for the final order. I stood up and cheered

I was originally fully against Kylo being redeemed, but I have to say they did a good job of it in this movie
My problem with Ben's character is that he acts insane. He does things for no reason. He's still probably the best part of the sequel trilogy, but that's not saying much
There. See, there's so much to love about Star Wars. More of this, please.
Ok

There's a difference between "toxic" and "critiquing." Some are indeed toxic but many explain why they dislike it by critiquing the movie.
i agree the fandom has a really difficult time finding positivity in star wars which sucks. I personally like them all and all of the movie have problems but they all have good as well.
I loved when Finn and Jannah fought together and turned their First Order training against their former masters in the final battle on Exagol.
Me too.
Jason Blalock too me it’s a win because he going back to his old ways that is killing Jedi
It would be great if that makes he had from the beggining.
Just because something isn’t perfect, doesn’t mean that there’s nothing redeemable about it
My only complaint is that I wanted more Rose.

Things I loved about Rise of Skywalker:
1) the Chemistry of Poe, Rey and Finn.

I love it that the Mandalorian is so connected to the sequels. Every episode adds extra information.

I thought it was funny how Force Healing was literally introduced to fans of the SW Universe the week before TRoS came out. The Mandalorian episode from that week was the first time we saw anyone Force Heal someone.
8:17
With the way Lucasfilm and Marvel have put false Easter Eggs in their trailers, the Chewie fakeout had me going for a couple minutes, and I was pretty surprised and kinda devastated.
In Legends we saw Force healing loads of times.
In my own head-canon, I've always viewed Obi-Wan laying his hand on Luke's head after he was knocked unconscious by the tusken raider in A New Hope as "force healing".
Wasn’t there force healing in the clone wars Morris arc?
I happened to notice there were two FO transports earlier, so I didn’t fall for the fakeout. Also, I knew they wouldn’t kill Chewie without showing him.

To me, this is the perfect conclusion to not just the Skywalker Saga, but the entirety of Star Wars as a whole. Even though new movies, shows, games, etc, will be released, all of that will eventually lead up to this movie.
This is what Star Wars commentary should be. Seeing the positive in even the most unappreciated parts. Keep it up.
My favorite thing this movie did was how they honored Leia/Carrie Fisher. Her character seems to be powerful even after her death.
I honestly love this movie. The whole trilogy was a big success in my opinion. Awesome characters and three really good movies.
The Bacons I agree
Pio Nepomuceno i like rots opening more
It's a prequel-ish sequel film
Love that billie lourd was the face under the leia cgi and that she was in a similar outfit in the final act to Leias on Endor
JJ also did something neat - Alec's granddaughter is also in the film I believe
I love it that I am not alone. Love the sequels!!
Best ever!

This movie really just pulled a random chimp event on us tho
I think Rian was echoing Anakin/Padme on Musta when Vader wants Padme to rule with him and she rejects him.
One of my favorite lines in all of SW is when Palpatine says to Rey: "Luke Skywalker was saved by his father. The only family you have here is ME."

The Chewbacca fakeout death
Jannah: nothing is down with her
The underuse of Connix
I'm with you on all of this.
Stuart Lugsden
Thanks. 😊 Probably give it a 7.5. Usually don’t use decimals but I think an 8 is too high but a 7 is too low
Don’t Mention It
I can believe we’re actually repeating history with the sequels. Everyone who saw it hated it and will rant on it but their kids will end up loving them to death despite their flaws.
I grew up with the prequels and the sequels. I recently did 20 yrs old and I love both trilogies even with it's flaws.
The sequels are far worse than the prequels
Chris Revel you’re free to have that opinion. I’m just saying that there were tons of Star Wars fans who hated the prequels the exact same way
Han Solo himself in The Force Awakens says the history repeats itself.
There was an older guy in my theater who started laughing when Chewie found out about Leia's death. There's a special place in hell for him.
I left the theater laughing long before that scene
Seriously that’s extreme man.😂
It's just a movie jerk. Wishing someone to go to hell just because they had laughed at a fictional death is the most despicable thing anyone can do.
@@BondFreek
Leia's death is synonymous with Carrie's death now. So laughing at Leia's death is laughing at Carrie's death.
@@BondFreek it's just a joke jerk
Finally some positive reviews about this film
Loved this video! You really encapsulated what I was feeling, but couldn’t put into words! Now riding a second Star Wars hype wave after watching this!
I loved your commentary on this movie. I have to admit, when I first saw this movie in the theater there were several things I was disappointed about by seeing it again at home, I really loved a lot about it and you really hit upon most of it! Keep up the good work!
Cinemawins? I love that guy ❤️
I love this trilogy so much... this is my Star Wars trilogy that I grew up w.
It's amazing
"I don't care if I win. I need you to lose."
-Me playing board games
I admit I personally loved the ending to this movie. Rey didn't even have to say she was a Skywalker but I understand her reasoning with others that she talks to. I like the irony that Palpatine's legacy is what lives on. I wonder what Darth Plagueis the Wise would have thought knowing that Palpatine's decedents would be responsible for destroying the Sith. It would be amazing that they revisit the Plagueis book and add a comment on this and what might happen in his future.
This was the video that introduced me to this channel. This is now my favorite Star Wars Channel on UA-cam.
@@andrewjenkins9965 same.
Thank you so much for putting this together... I left the cinema with such a mixed bag of emotions after I saw the film, and it's clouded my ability to enjoy Star Wars as a whole ever since. I feel like this video has lifted that cloud, and has returned my love of the franchise to me...
Re: "Force Heaven"
One thing that might be helpful in smoothing that out is to keep in mind that while there are some Christian concepts in Star Wars (Virgin Birth, Chosen One prophecies, and some others), the "afterlife" concept that we see in Star Wars has more to do with Buddhism than Christianity. I think that makes more sense than using a more western concept of "heaven."
I'm not a Buddhist and my knowledge of Buddhism is introductory at best so if I've misrepresented or completely missed the point in what I wrote above, my apologies.
The positivity and sharing of Star Wars love is really nice, thanks for making this video!
What broke my heart was Wedge showing up a moment too late to save Snap. That literally hurt my heart in the theater
Thank you! I really liked the movie when I saw it in theaters, but I realized that my view of it is souring based on everything people are saying about it. This helped me remember there was a lot of good things to like about it and I shouldn't be embarrassed to like it a lot.
When I've been running into sequels hate all day to the point of feeling anxiety, this is great.
This was sooooooo needed! Thank you! Wow, a glass of fresh water. You didn’t pretend that the movie is perfect but focusing on the good is such a true Star Wars Fan
thing to do. Thanks.

That's the one
"You know the odds better than any of us, do we have a choice?"
What, you have positive things to say about a thing? Better slam that dislike buttons then.

not hearing ezra's voice made me wonder if he is alive at that point of story.
Ashoka was also confirmed to be alive as well. She just like Vader contacted rey through the force.
@@coleschubert9868 wait how do you know she is still alive?
@@coleschubert9868 are you suggesting Vader is still alive?
But I can understand that she could be alive. Still baffled why she'd be in there, but... Yoda himself showed the ability to project to others while still living, in Rebels. (Incidentally, this is both why it made sense that Luke could do it in TLJ, and why I'm confused how it killed him. But maybe it was the lightsaber-cutting-the-projection thing.)
@@andrewjenkins9965 I think he means Anakin y'know during the I am all the Jedi scene
I heard he was originally going to have a cameo on a space-horse but they thought it'd be too confusing to just have him cut some stormtroopers in half out of nowhere.
Finally someone makes something positive about the sequel trilogy. The Rise of Skywalker is the third best Disney Star Wars film(behind Rogue one and Solo yes I find Solo good)
Solo is amazing
Hey, go watch Film Joy and Loberboy Media, they all like the (most part) of the Sequel trilogy
Griffin Moeller to me it was fine but Mauls appearance blew me away!
Solo was my least favorite of the Disney movies and I still liked it.
In my opinion, I rank it
1. Rogue One (great. Probably my most rewatched Star Wars movie aside from ANH and RotS)
2. Rise of Skywalker (decent although disappointing for the final episode. Great character moments though which is why I think it’s second best of the Disney movies)
3. Solo (it’s alright but a bit boring at times)
4. Force Awakens (don’t really feel a need to revisit it but it’s not necessarily bad)

Love the positivity here, we need more of this in the Star Wars community!
