Excellent, absolutely top rate documentary - not only explains the backdrop to the Greco-Persian wars but to the Pelopenesen wars as well. Also, "Athenian democracy" was based on 20,000 slaves digging out silver ore and processing it - both highly hazardous occupations. And once so endowed, Athenian democracy became an Empire and a regional bully, little better than the distant Persians. But all that makes for great history! And a timely lesson that the roots of democracy are not as egalitarian as we might wish
Themistocles actually had the better argument. The other guy was suggesting UBI wayyyy before it was potentially viable. Once they spent that silver each of the citizens of athens would have no more than got to party a bit, but going to war with it. Well better trade routes, a monopoly of the region. Those are the proverbial teaching the man to fish but in reverse, kill the other fishermen so they don't reduce the population and make it harder for you to catch the fish.

Informative and well made. I think last year (or was it the year before?) Marked the 2,500 year anniversary of Salamis.
That would have been in 2020.
