Many of us struggle with these questions today as well. Socrates is indeed very relevant in these times. Personally, I feel nice about Socrates for another reason- he is my namesake!

I'M STILL CURIOUS, AT MY ALMOST 82 YEARS OF AGE, WHAT TRUE VALUES ARE WE PRACTIC8NG IN OUR WESTERN CIVILIZATION! I REALLY CANT FIND ANY! I SEE ONLY ANTHROPOCENTISM EVERYWHERE! A PHILOSOPHY WHICH IS DESTROYING THE EARTH WHERE WE ALL HUMANS LIVE IN!

    • @Cambkl

You'd be best not to capitalise your comments. It looks like you're shouting. Its taken for rudeness, It detracts from your message and at 82 years of age you should have better manners

Socrates was, and remains, a troubling enigma: to tear down tradition without being bold enough to build something new is a dangerous half-effort.

thank you for putting Dr Hughes to the task of talking about
    her favourite philosopher.
and then for having the temerity and good sense,
to put it up on the tube'y'all.
i went on a little side journey with the mention of the naming of aristocratic children,
Demokritos. (meaning rule of the people)
i may be wrong (and please correct me), but i took Demosthenes and broke it down,
and came to the conclusion that the name means people immortal,
in the collective sense, the people (demos) are immortal (thenes).
an interesting sentiment, don't you think?
