    This has the side benefit of smoothing out my take away tempo. I definitely can get rushed based on years of being warned about slow backswings. This feels controlled and coiled. Kudos

    I swear it’s like you guys made this video especially for me! 😂 The really annoying thing is I never used to do this. If anything, my shoulder turn was probably a bit flat. Then I was told by a couple of different instructors to add a tonne of left side bend into my backswing. I was told to feel like I was reverse pivoting which, of course, I then started to do. This is why I became an AMG member and why I now only take instruction from you guys. The best in the business in my humble opinion!

      Absolutely. My current feel is no left side bend at all. It means I need to use my arms a lot more rather than heaving the club up with my body. I still can’t do it at speed but I’m working on it.

    Great videos. Can you explain the difference in spine extension that you don’t want, vs. the spine extension in the “side bend like a pro” video. Rory has quite a bit of spine extension in his backswing.

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  4 дні тому

      @@ChadSchmidt-y3x good question. “Spine extension” has become a catch-all term for golfers and instructors. But there’s a difference between what the spine itself is doing and what the pelvis angles are doing to the spine during a motion like the swing. Our Pros vs Ams video was showing the spine moves without the pelvis’s influence. We his one is talking about angles with the pelvis’s influence. The practical thing to look for is the back line at the top. Look for some angle away from the target and try to avoid vertical/towards the target. That’s a good 2D a for what’s happening in 3D.

    I found when my right hip wasnt rotating back and up enough, pressure not on inside of foot, inside of leg (i was more twisting my leg) I ran out of room and would reverse tilt. Solved that hip movement and I have tons of room to fully turn, do a full swing. I had enough flexibility. What I think I need more is thoracic strength so those band and medicine balls would help, body doesn't like being in positions its not strong in. Your recent video on width and shifting really helped me with that. Im walking and running better. More connected... Thanks! 🙏

    love AMG’s videos, really curious if gears tells us anything about the way the lats work in the backswing/downswing. heard bryson explain many times how they help him pull the golf club and increase speed, was wondering if the data supports it and if there were any feels one could implement

    There is so much emphasis on getting to 90 degrees on the back swing these days. Problem is, if your flexibility is somewhat restricted , then as you try to continue to coil you end up cheating and end up with extension in the backswing. Once I stopped worrying about getting to 90 degrees (and accepted I’m getting older!) my swing was in a much better place.

    I remember you guys had a backswing drill for width where you push your right hand against a wall to your right and straighten the arm a bit in the latter part of the backswing. I think rehearsing that might have accidentally got me "unplugging" a bit by over-extending the spine as I pushed my upper body away from the wall. What's the best feel for marrying these two drills, so we keep some width without unplugging?

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  22 дні тому +1

    Great video. Dr Kwon says a reverse pivot position at the top of the backswing is “okay”which would require unplugging the extension cord, would it not? Both you and Dr Kwon promote many of the same concepts, i.e. recentering, but seem to differ in this area. Thoughts?

    Question, if our shoulders are supposed to be semi square at impact and we move the hands towards the pocket in the downswing how dose the club go from outside our back foot to square with square shoulders. • @robkedgley8350
    @robkedgley8350 21 день тому

    Its hard for me to get my head round. I was taught that you need ‘left bend’ with rotation & extension in equal measures. With best players effectively standing their spine up from approx 30 deg front bend and adding 30 deg of side bend….all this happening to keep them centred. if we rotate in forward bend dont we move off too much? thanks as ever & Seasons Greetings! 🎄

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  21 день тому +1

      You bring up a good point so it's worth noting some key distinctions. 1 - there's the movement of the spine itself. Our last Pros vs Ams video went into the actual lumbar and thoracic movements. 2 - next there is the of the system that changes the spine's orientation. Since it's Christmas, think of a 🎄tree sitting on top of a table. If you kick one of the legs off the table, the tree's trunk (spine) will move/tilt because it's base moved/tilted. But not because the trunk itself side bent. When most folks see any movement or tilting of the spine, they believe it's the spine itself causing all the bend. There is some, but there is also a lot of #2 happening. The main thing is to look at how we're demonstrating that movement. The spine itself can lose forward bend without "unplugging" because it sits on top of a base that is constantly moving and tilting. The same applies to side bend as well.

    It looks like you are talking about turn being the spiral staircase idea that Pete Cowen talks about?
    The part that I don't understand is that it seems that if you don't have some type of extension on the backswing you are going to bird dog in the back swing.

    Going back 90 degrees is fine as long as you are physically able to do so . But the simple fact is that few of us are capable of doing so; a shorter backswing then is optimal for consistency , producing power and avoiding injuries .
