For the 1st trick about scoring I was taught "valleys become mountains and mountains turn into valleys" or score makes a valley in the paper so when you fold it turn the valley into a mountain. Easy to remember that way!
LOVE that mental shortcut; thank you so much for sharing it
Perfect!
I often have trouble remembering things, but that is so helpful for me! Thank you, @staceydailey6394
When I use double sided adhesive to attach card fronts, I don't completely remove the release paper so that the card front doesn't stick while I'm aligning it. Once I get where I want, I push down on the part where the release paper has been pulled off, then pull the rest of the release paper off.
OOOOH great tip, thank you so much! YAY!
I TRY to remember that tip, but usually, as that’s often THE last step, and my mind goes off the rails heading for that final station!! 😵💫 😱 😖
I love the fry-day card and the wonky letter idea! Thanks for so many great tips and for your great enthusiasm and positive vibe!
You are so welcome! And thank you so much for the encouragement!
Love your ideas and your attitude. Love the smile too!
Thanks so much! 😊 That means a lot!
Omg Mary, your cracking me up 😅. Love your suggestion of ' just give up and put it on wonky. That was a first for me to hear from a professional. You know what? I believe I'm going with that one.
Hahaha...well sometimes you gotta put "peace" above perfection! lol
I love your silliness!! Thanks for the tips!!
You can use your scoreboard - the first tool you showed - as an edge for placing card panels on bases! Loved this upbeat laughy video, needed that, thanks!
Great tip! LOVE THAT!
I remember the scoring rule by this: When you score the paper, it weakens the fibers, allowing them to "stretch" a bit over the fold without causing cracking. THanks for the tips!
Great tip! That makes total sense; thank you so much!
The scoreboard also works tp help line up panels are the card base straight
YES! Thank you for that addition!
2nd TIP: As MARY is THE Queen of “alternative choices” when it comes to FRUGAL SPENDING on craft items, I’m here to add that I’m using one of the several bitsy blue hexagonal handled brushes that I picked up at JoAnn’s, TIPPED IN TACKY GLUE, as my pick-n-place tool. I’m not big on glitzy embellishments, so it’s lasted me at least a year with no reapplying of the glue, but I do use it to re-place the insets in some die cuts, which, over time I’m sure, will deplete the stickiness faster. But, hey, Aleene’s is inexpensive!!
Ooooh yes I love more and more ideas on this. Thank you so much for sharing!
I got two reams of accent opaque. I really like but here is my tip. I take mine to a print shop to get them to cut and score it for me. I had one ream cut into card fronts. The other ream into card bases then score the bases. It's about 400 card bases. It cost about $33 to $37 where I live. I never have to worry about miscut card fronts. I know you have to decide if it's worth the time. It saves me tons of time which is worth the money
That's an awesome tip thank you so much Sara! I am sure this will help a ton of us in getting it straight !
Love love the word dewarped!
Hahha YAY...ask my kids, I make up a lot of words
Love your It's Fry-day card! Adorable and I just might make it for my send outs this Nov... using the Sea gull die set I just got!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that
I like the tip about scoring. I didn't know that.
Yay! So glad it was helpful
I just found you by accident & I cannot believe the tips you shared & how helpful they can be for any crafter! I have letter dies but have never used them. It seemed too time consuming to me. However, you made it look easy & it looked like a fun way to make a unique one of a kind card. Thank you for all your tips!
Oh thank you so much for this! I really appreciate you taking the time for me! And I'm so glad that it was helpful YAY
Thank you, Mary. I appreciate you and all that you share and do for us. I love all of your videos, especially the hacks and money saving videos! I just wanted to share that I use the corner of my scoreboard to line up card tops. It works great! I love your tips for trying to get the allignment straightener when leaving borders or edges on the card! I have a real struggle with that one, and I can use all the extra help I can get! I wish you the best and am looking forward to many more videos in the future. 🫂 hugs to keep you, Shauna from Oregon.
Thank you so much for sharing all of this with me. You are so thoughtful; also thank you for adding in amazing tips. YAY!

Oh thank you so much for this; this means a lot!
I love my reverse tweezers. I bought them on clearance for 99 pence, and I use them all the time.
SAME...well not the steal of a deal you got but same in that i love them too
I find it more reliable when attaching a top panel to the base to always have the card in a landscape orientation. Lining up the top two corners perfectly will ensure the bottom two are good to go. Having the ‘shorter’ edges to the sides reduces the chance of going crooked.
Oooh such a great point; yes that is easier. Thank you for this
Love your videos! Thanks for brightening my day!
My pleasure, thanks for brightening mine right back!
Thank you for all the hints! They are very good!

Mary, I love your card tips!!! Love your little mouse! Thank you,
Yay! Thank you so much
Another way I've heard to remember that scoring/folding procedure is that you fold over the "hill." I was already doing it when I heard that, so I'm not sure it's helpful for me personally, but it may help someone. I just know to do it, so don't really think about it. As for lining up card fronts to bases like you did in your MISTI, another possibility is to use your score board. That would probably be even more helpful for larger cards like A7, slimline, etc., that might not fit in the MISTI - depending on the size of your scoreboard, of course. Also, I would recommend lining the card front up with the folded edge of the card first. That way, if the card base is a little larger than the front (assuming the front panel is meant to cover the card base), you can trim off the bottom edge of the base that shows. If a bit of the folded edge is peeking out, there's not much you can do to get rid of it, without cutting your card in two. Hope that makes sense. Thank you for sharing these tips & tricks, Mary. Take care, & I hope you have an awesome day! :)
Oh I LOVE these tips and shortcuts; thank you so much for taking the time for all of us and sharing them! YAY!

Yay! Thank you!
Really good tips I always wondered which way to fold a creased card base thanks for sharing 🇬🇧
YAY So glad it was helpful! Thank you for letting me know.
Mary, there are so many ways to hold a stencil. I would find a video explaining all the ways and the various considerations before purchasing. Some of the tools I’m thinking of are Waffle Flower Stan I’ll May, Brutus Monroe mat, Pixie spray, magnet glass mats, Tonic Grip Mat. There are so many options and a break down of the pros and cons of each would be so helpful!
Hmmmm....love this idea! I'll see what I can do! Thank you
I'm a big hinge addict. Secure the stencil at the top with removable tape (I use yellow Frog tape) so I can flip it up to check and plop it back down in the same exact spot if needed. The surface doesn’t matter though now I have the same glass mat as Mary.
Thanks for the tips!
I’m surprised someone hasn’t invented a 3-D t-square where you can have a 1/8 or 1/4” frame between your card base and the next layer.
I'm so glad it was helpful. I'm trying to picture what you're describing. I'm sure it would be a great invention.
@@marypolancodesigns IF I could picture it, I’d be rich. 😆
Mary I’ve just now found you. You’re fantastic. 1st off I can’t work without my tweezers either. Your tips are great. So happy I found you. Thanks for all you do.

Hi. Hacks and hints and tips and tricks, it's a ' YAY! ' from me. Some interesting backgrounds you have there. I often rely on my T rule, especially for getting stripes and ribbons level. Thank you for this video, very handy.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear it was helpful! YAY
Great tips!! I use glue the most because I normally don't get it straight the first time!! I will sometime use my scor board to help me put it on straight!!! Thanks for sharing my friend!!
Awesome adds, thank you so much Michele!

Oh Sharon you are always the kindest thank you so much for all your love and support
We appreciate you too, T4s
oh thank you so so much!
Another way I've heard it said re scoring is that the "valley" should turn into the "mountain" or the "innie" becomes the "outie" in case that helps anyone else visualize it!
Oh YES that's brilliant! Thank you so much!
That’s what I use.
Thanks so much Mary! Your tips are always so helpful and your enthusiasm is contagious. I do still have an issue with my Accent Opaque card bases, but it's intermittent. It doesn't seem to matter which way I fold them over. I also have the same scoring board as you. It bothered me at first, but now I'm over it. It adds to the unique nature of a hand made card! 😂
Allie - I have the same exact problem. I'm wondering if the "problem" isn't on the manufacturing end; that they cut the paper going against the natural grain. Could be that they were training a "newbie" and a few got away from the person.
Karen may be right; it might be the manufacturer. Next time you score try a couple things. 1. press very lightly when scoring; don't go too deep. and 2. if it still cracks, take a sand block and lightly sand away the excess paper that looks messy and cracked. That might help.
@@karengerek643 I bought another ream, so maybe this one will be better? 🤞
Something you might try, in adjunct to Mary’s ideas, is to score the card in the same place, but on BOTH sides. As I mentioned in another post, I probably don’t use as heavy a card stock as most (90# MAX, as I like to layer “dsp”s & die cuts) but I don’t have any issues with ragged folds. Mind you, I do NOT use expensive papers either! Only whatever H.L. sold within the last two years, some Recollections, Core’dinations, or Bazzille. Hope this is of some help.
The scoring board can also be used for your card fronts trick.
YES absolutely thank you so much!
💚
A little saying to remember which way to fold is bury the bump!
LOVE that tip Thank you!
Great tips- love seeing these helpful videos.
Thank you so much! I'm so happy they are helpful!
When I have a watercolor panel that doesn't match my base, I run an alcohol marker around the base to match the decorations.
Beeee----rilliant! Thank you for this tip
I just enjoy you so much.
This is the best compliment ever. Thank you for being here
I just started using Accent Opaque cardstock, thanks to your recommendation, and am saving a ton of $. So thank you for that. Glad to know I’m not alone with the cracking issue. I use my bone folder to sort of push the cracked bits back in place. It works most of the time if the cracking isn’t too severe.
BTW, your videos are the best. Great info And you crack me up. Thanks!
I'm so glad you're saving money. I shared with someone else about the cracking too, make sure you are lightly scoring not too heavy and then try a sanding block to remove some of the excess hanging off. NOt sure if that will help any
@@marypolancodesigns Thank you. I’ll definitely try that.
When I first started card making I remember this: scoring neutral colors valley to inside, colors valley to the outside has helped me immensely TFS❤️
Soooo helpful! Thank you
Thanks for the tips. When whites don't match, I often paint the edge. Its watercolor paper so water based things may bleed more than I want. A cheap makeup sponge with a tiny bit of acrylic paint, or gouache, often makes me happy on the edge. Iridescent acrylic medium, I like Utrecht, needs a bit thicker of an edge but it can be pretty too. Your matting layers are always going to be a great look. I get lazy.
This is so helpful thank you for sharing all of these tips! YAY
You might apply your edge treatment b e f o r e you lay down your top layer. That way you can go crazy with your coloring mediums without fear of messing up the edges of your “presentation panel”. With the light hand you use, there’d be no fear of bleed-through.
@@kkrolf2782 Thank you!! That is a good idea
make valleys into mountains and mountains into valleys
Perfect! Thank you!
LOVED your hacks, tips and tricks! Please help in my cutting! Do you like it up before the measuring linel? Or on the line? Or covering the line? I feel like all my cutting and scoring is slightly winky and it drives me nuts! Actually, I can walk f from here. Anyway, any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I cut mine on the line but remember, even the manufacturers don't get it perfect all the time. So sometimes I'll fold it and it won't line up perfectly so then I just slice off the bottom in my paper trimmer and boom...perfect. lol
I love your videos. I, too thought I was getting a great deal on 110# Neenah card stock only to discover (after it arrived) that it was only 199g/sq m. Thanks for all the information you provided on choosing a good quality product. A tip I learned from “MayMay Made It” to prevent the cracking when folding card stock is to score it once then flip it over and score the other side. By doing that I can fold in either direction.
Thank you so much for sharing this tip. YAY! Another great add to the cracking problem.
I was told (about 20 years ago) how to remember which way to fold the card-----"Bury the Worm". I have never forgotten that and never fold the card the wrong way. Who wants to see worms? LOL
Hahaha, I LOVE THIS! It's so clever! Thank you for sharing this
Mary., when I first started card making I wasn't sure how to score and fold my cards so they would come out even. Usually one side was just a smidge longer than the other. I think I was making the same mistake you were talking about and folding my cards the wrong way. I don't remember whose video I was watching but this person changed my life. She said, when folding your scored cards, mountains become valleys and valleys become mountains. I'm not sure why that stuck with me but I never again forgot which way to fold my cards. Maybe that will help someone else.
Such a great mental shortcut for this method! Thank you so much Janie!
Great tips! I have a question...which adhesive is better for adhering craft foam to paper: glue or double sided adhesive sheets (or tapes)?
I'd have to officially do a test of it to be certain but from my experience, double Sided adhesive, but it also depends on the brand of that and glue. I would do some experimenting to find out if you can
I love all your videos. So glad you retired so we get more of you!!!!
