    Tip for embossing white on black-try double stamping a white pigment ink instead of clear sticky ink, which will give a brighter white and fill in any gaps.

    I am a recent follower and now I’m addicted to your Chanel! I even went so far as to call the manufacturer of the Accent Opaque paper because I feel like I have not found any decent cardstock yet. I wish I had you on speed dial for every time I run into a question :). Thank you for all the time and money you have put into all this research, recording, editing, posting and creating - I’m just sitting here waiting for your next video 🥰 You have inspired me to get back to my craft desk.

    I love these cards, they are absolutely beautiful. I really liked the one where you were experimenting with the colors and let them drip down, then cut it out and made a card out of it. My favorite card was the galaxy card. I loved how you came up with idea of the moon and the alien, it is perfect for this card!
    Great tip on getting paper from the dollar tree, I never even thought to look there.

    We picked up a few great tips in this video- thanks! Watching those colors flow and move was like looking at a lava lamp! If you're looking for budget-friendly, smooth card stock, consider Blick Studio Smooth Bristol- the price per sheet is pretty close to "dollar store" prices, but you get more sheets in the pad.

    I saw an IG post recently where the maker positioned (and held with magnet) her paper just barely inside the corner of the stamp platform and stamped her sentiment. Then she pushed the paper flush into the corner and stamped again with just the ink already on the stamp. It created an awesome dark sentiment with a shadow in the same color but lighter and no fussiness with measuring for alignment. I hope this makes sense!

      Hi. Yes. It makes perfect sense to me, I found that out by accident when it moved slightly and I hadn't noticed before I went for the second stamping. It was the first time it had happened where it didn't annoy me!😅

    First of all, the moment I saw that alien, all I could think of was Grumpy Cat! 😹 He just has that same disgusted look that she did. (Grumpy Cat has sadly gone on to the Rainbow Bridge.) I love how you added him with the action wobbler, and your rationale for doing so - perfect! One tip that I thought of when you were stamping your words for heat embossing, is not to do CPR on your stamp platform - or acrylic block - with fine-line words or greetings. It can really tend to distort the lines. Gentle pressure is your friend. :) You can always stamp more than once (assuming you are using a stamp positioner of some sort), & just give a light whisper of a touch over your stamp each time. The same probably holds true with fine-line images as well. This is (I find) especially important with heat embossing, as the embossing powder will tend to "bulk up" the lines anyway. On that note, if you have fine lines in your words or images, use a fine-grind embossing powder to heat emboss. I know Ranger labels theirs as Super Fine Detail powder. Not sure of other companies' nomenclature for that, but it should be something similar. Anyway, that will help prevent the lines getting too thick, maybe not entirely, but better than coarse or regular grind powder. If you have a stamping platform, you can also double- or even triple-emboss things. Just stamp with sticky ink, apply embossing powder, & melt that. Don't remove the stamp from your platform. Then - after letting the embossing cool - put it back in your platform, ink up the stamp with the same ink, stamp it, & heat emboss again. This will give you a smoother embossing. Again, though, I wouldn't recommend this for fine-lined words/images, just for the distortion reason I gave. Anyway, those are my tips. Thank you for sharing your cards - I love how they came out! Take care, & have an awesome day! :)

    I get old boxes of glossy photo paper for ink jet and laser printers (8.5 x 11 or 4 x 6) at thrift shops, and they are good with alcohol inks and alcohol ink markers. The gloss lets you ‘erase’ with the next color, instead of blending. Good for details like leaf shapes and leaf veins, etc. This video was so fun, thanks for the guidance. I like the fails too, saves a lot of time and energy. I often write out a recipe before I eat it; if it doesn’t work out, I label it Meh, and put it in the recipe box. It always gives me a smile, and helps prevent more Meh. ☺️

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  2 роки тому +3

    I’ve never thought about trying ,that back ground. I just bought the pack of large card stock at Dollar Tree, now I actually have something to do with it. I’m really starting to get into nautical or ocean cards. This “ could “ make a beautiful background! I just love your ideas, you do all the thinking for us. I’ve gotten so into carding, every piece of paper that comes in this house, whether mail etc. I’m looking for pretty paper. I get beautiful metallic paper from lining of envelopes. Alabama girl here

      I've always been like that and only a couple of hours ago i was emptying some individually wrapped wafer bars out of the outer packaging. I noticed how shiny and uncreased it was so, yep, I trimmed it and popped it onto my desk. My husband has complained before about my hoarding tendancy but if it keeps it out of the landfill and saves me a little cash then I don't see it as a problem. 🤣

    So fun and pretty. I use a lazy Susan turntable and just blow with a straw as I turn it. I had that same little blow dryer and it died after about 5 uses, I was so disappointed because it really did work well and the size was perfect. I have another that has a low cool setting but it's bulky. So it's back to the straw which I feel is the best control I ever got anyway and am careful not to breath in fumes. Love using the turntable, it's a game changer. Thanks for reminding me about the tacky glue trick. I have a ton on old gloppy glitter polish I'm going have some fun with too.

    Awesome tips, Mary. Maybe I can offer you one as well. With the blow dryer, keep it straight up and down while blowing with lots of 91% alcohol to get the wispy edges. It gives more flowy edges instead of leggy edges if that’s what you are going for.

    Not all slimlines are 8.5" x 3.5", which I mention only because if you buy slimline dies or border stamps assuming they're a standard size, you might be in for a shock. I prefer this size (which fits in a #9 business envelope).

    Mary, I have a question: does the Revlon All-in-One Style Hot Air Kit blower work to heat emboss with embossing powders? Or would it blow all the powder away? I need a new tool for heat embossing, but want a tool that will multi task. Thanks!

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  2 роки тому

      SUCH a great question; I do not feel it would get hot enough; even the Wagner tool has 2 settings and the lower one does not heat emboss well; only the high (burn off your skin if not careful) temp works.

      I don't have alcohol marker reinkers, but if I'm getting that wrong and you mean all my alcohol inks themselves, I have. I used a piece of poster board, and dropped them on there then labeled them by writing in the name. I hope that helps.

    Absolutely love your tips!!! I actually have some of those DT poster boards. I just need some alcohol inks! 😁 And your nail polish trick toward glitter... AWESOME!!! BUT... does the liquid from the nail polish ruin/warp the paper?

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much for the sweet comment! No the nail Polish liquid does not warp the paper. It helps that you're putting it on an application sponge 1st because that soaks up a lot of the liquid

    Your backgrounds look great. I have tried alcohol inks a few times and I am not happy with the result. I always like other people results but not my own. I think I may need some more colors.
    The no bleed ink is something I learned from you on the video you compared white inks, one of my favorite purchases.
    When you use the sticky glue, will any regular glue work for that?
    Tfs. Hugs

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much for this! The glue has to be able to be tacky when it's dried. A lot of glues dry and they're not sticky but these 2 clues that I recommend and I put them in the description Box dry tacky or sticky

    Stunning cards! I love how you balance the white space with the bright color; it gives your eyes a rest. Can you tell me what containers you use to store your embossing powder? Thanks for the inspiration to get out my alcohol inks that have been sitting patiently since Christmas!

      Thank you so much for this Sarah, I really appreciate it! I am still looking for the "perfect" storage for my embossing powders balancing convenience with functionality. I don't recommend what I"m using in the video; it's a photo storage container and powder comes out all over.

    Mary, I am so intimidated by alcohol inks. I bought a few from Hobby Lobby that were on clearance, but I still haven't used them. I'm hoping they will work well on Photo paper, since I have some in my stash. Just an FYI for you and other readers, I saw a small pack of photo paper at Dollar Tree the other day. I am always looking for a bargain, esp. when trying something new. Glad to see you wearing gloves because I definitely would not have thought to do that and made a big 'ole mess. I don't have any blending solution. Is there a substitute I could use? Maybe I'll give the alcohol inks a try. I loved your cards and the vibrant colors the alcohol inks make!

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Janie, first don't be scared; just play! Get lost in the moment of creativity and expect nothing but peace to hit you. We get caught up on comparison a lot and it steals joy. Next, yes, you can substitute 99% alcohol for the blending solution; you really just want to get it moving around; that's all the blending solution does. Photo paper should work just fine; can't remember which side though. You might think it's the shiny side but check both. Lastly, you can search on my channel for "alcohol ink" and you'll get a playlist and others to assist you.

    Hi Mary! Perfect timing---My (fine) WHITE Ranger embossing powder is grainy (big dry particles) compared to all their other colors. Result is "sketchy" finish, not nice and consistent thick white look. Something you've seen or a single bad jar? (Why would dry consistency be so different than other colors?) So far no answers. :)

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  2 роки тому +1

      I wonder if the jar or container is getting air in and might be messing with the consistency. If not possible, maybe it IS a bad jar. Is it old? I've also heard that it can go bad after a while.

    • @andrealavigne7824
      @andrealavigne7824 2 роки тому +2

      Is it a new jar? I had a jar of Ranger Super Fine Detail embossing powder (I think it was white) that had large clumps in it, & didn't emboss well. As I'd just recently gotten it, I e-mailed Ranger to ask if that was normal. They said no, and sent me a new jar to replace it. If your jar is relatively new, I'd suggest contacting Ranger. They'll probably ask for a photo of the jar and/or powder. I think I had to send a picture of what the heat embossed results looked like. Anyway, they'd let you know what they need. You can find their contact info on their website - rangerink.com/pages/get-in-touch-with-us. Hope this helps! :)

      I had this issue with some embossing powder once and I figured out it had got some water from my mister in it. I stirred it with a metal craft spoon against the jar and it helped a lot. Assuming you don't have a bad batch, that is.

    I take it you removed the brush attachment (which is prominent in the illustrations at the link) to use the hair drying tool. I find it odd that it's a subscribe and save item, which implies you need to replace it at least every six months, if not sooner.

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  2 роки тому +2

      I have no idea why that hair drying tool would be on a subscribe and save option; they must have linked all toiletry items together with hair care. It's a non-consumable tool.
