    Very ingenious! I was expecting it to require more of the train logic available in the schedule, but this use of the 'signal' items to open the floodgates on a fast belt is very neat.
    You should keep in mind though that the amount of items you get from a single "order" is a lot higher than in your test setup, simply because the train will take quite some time, and you only get delivery two round trips after you ordered the items. One thing you could do is duplicate the trains. This would reduce "delivery lag" and increase the maximum throughput in the cargo segment.
    You could expand on this system a little bit to get made-to-order full cargo wagons too:
    - separate the "signal train" from the "cargo train".
    - have the cargo train sit at the loading station, with the condition to only leave once it's fully loaded
    - do not use a buffer container on the input for the cargo train.
    - once the station contains enough items to do a full load, it will start loading, and the belt will be blocked
    - set an overflow on the end of this belt, split off 30 items with some splitters and mk1 belts, and send all the rest back into storage.
    - the 30 overflowed items can be the new blocking pinning items.
    This will work on the condition that the cargo train belt can fill up a full cargo wagon before the signal train starts delivering new blocking items from the "natural" blocking loop.
    There will obviously be a small amount of extra material siting on the blocked belt, that will "contaminate" the next delivery. An easy fix would be to have a cleanup train doing short loops back to the main storage with normal load conditions. It'll get stuck behind the cargo delivery train sooner or later, and the system will be ready for the next order.

    Thanks for the video! I saw this madness last night while looking at your setup for making nobelisks/ammo in your Eden save. I hadn't thought of using biofuel generators like that for making supplies so I was interested in how you made it work and was like "oh, what did I get into here" lol. It does seem to be a bit overly complicated though - like if you had to try and modify/debug that setup with all the belts running around while trying to remember what you did would probably be difficult . But a setup like here in the video would be much easier to maintain. I found it all very interesting!

    Nice, but super complicated 😊 Another idea is to expand your ‘storage’ to be worldwide. Storage A (is central), B, C, D, etc are your spoke storage units. The trains are basically your belts, the bottleneck being number of freights. This way you will always have access to storage anywhere you are in the world. For more advanced items, you could use Drones, but trains are enough imo.

    • @StinArchi
      @StinArchi  2 роки тому

      Marc Wautelet (link in description) did something similar: a map wide storage system, 4 hubs at the moment and expanding to more - with resources automatically distributed to each hub. Similar idea to what you mentioned.

    Nice, I love your belt logic videos! Altough I have never found a use case that made them necessary. I am currently thinking about if the blocking loop works with machine output buffers as well?
    My use case: I have build a new armory producing all the different ammunition and would love to transport them to my main storage. But I neither want to use like 15 drones for it nor do I want to produce any more ammunition if storage is full since it is stealing from other production lines, especially the uranium cells. I think this is not possible since the machine buffer does not have an input for creating a loop and flow to a merger can never be fully blocked. So it will only ever work if we get a "smart" merger with a priority option (like reverse of overflow). Or is this possible?

    • @jasonlatta2000
      @jasonlatta2000 2 роки тому

      If you don’t mind it being chunky, you can make a priority merger using the two inputs of an industrial storage.

    • @StinArchi
      @StinArchi  2 роки тому

      Thanks MrFaerine, appreciate it as always
      Once your storage containers are full, from the machines producing the various ammo production (I assume one container per ammo type?) - are you sending any excess overflowing to a sink? I have no idea, but maybe you're merging all the output of all the machines producing the various ammo types - and sending that mixed, merged output belt onto a storage area, and excess overflowing?
      If yes, if the excess of any of the ammo items is at least 30/items per min (If the machines producing the ammo are at least producing 30items per min) - you could redirect that overflow from storage to a interupting system, like in video, using a 3rd party item (like biofuel), to overflow that biofuel and block the feeding belt to those partcular machines (again, same as in this video).
      I think even with 30 items per min, interupting and overflowing a 3rd party blocking item (like biofuel), in a small circular blocking system like in this video - would be enough to block the resources feeding the machines and stop production. If you need those resources to go forward elsewhere, you can have them overflow before the circular blocking system.
      Again like in the video, 15 items per min would keep cycling round the blocking circular system, and the half, 15 items per min - go back to the 3rd party loop/container.
      Not sure if that makes sense, and to be hoenst i'm not even sure that is applicable to your scenario. A lot would depend on your setup. And to be honest, you may not want to do all that work just that, which I could understand.
      Around 15 drones? So you must have a pretty decent sized ammo production?

    • @MrFaerine
      @MrFaerine 2 роки тому

      @@StinArchi the problem is with the requirement of fully blocking the production if it is not needed. 15 drones would only be needed for seperating all the ammo types, then blocking is easy, they run full and can't unload. It would also be easy to mix the ammo, send it to central storage using a single drone and then sink it.
      To get production to stop, output must be zero. But since the pinning system always has a a bit of "leakage" it can't fully block a belt. You catch the leakage in the video using an overflow splitter that can only handle 60 with MK1, if more than 60 items arrive it will output to the station. BUT you need to send the non-overflow leakage back to the item container using its input which is not possible with a machine output. So I think it is impossible to pin a machine output like a storage container. You can only make a merger cascade for the feedback that comes close to a priority merger.

    • @MrFaerine
      @MrFaerine 2 роки тому

      @@jasonlatta2000 In my experience that setup is unstable and can flip the priority port upon loading the game. Have you tried using ISC and it works without maintenance? Is a few updates back I tried it.

    I was just sat here nodding like i knew what was going on for like half the video but i get it now XD
    Is this reliable in long term? Ive noticed sometimes belts stutter slightly at the joins making a mk1 belt slightly less than 60 items p/m and after a long time that impacts the whole production line

    • @StinArchi
      @StinArchi  2 роки тому

      I haven't testing this with many items, like 10+, and over a long distance, but in theory should be fine and reliable.
      The mk1 60 item should be fine, because most of the time its only 30 items per minute, doesn't need 60 to block.
      What I see may possibly be an issue is getting all the blocking items off the train and into the containers quickly enough if there were lots of pinning items (which there would be if you added 10+ items to the system, and over a long distance train travel) - that is my only concern for a larger version. As that could possibly let a few unrequested items flow through. I think it should be ok, but not 100% yet.
      But there is usually always a work around, like adding 1 more freight platform so you can get the items off v quickly with 4 outputs.
      Cheers Chroma 👍

  • @ronhatch9175
    @ronhatch9175 2 роки тому

    Another advantage with using a train is that you can go beyond that 13 item limit just by adding more platforms. (Really, I wouldn't use more than 12 items per platform due to issues with running Mk5 belts at full speed.)

      @StinArchi  2 роки тому

    Or you could just make a building train like most that has all the materials and sits at a station and waits for a destination. The other thing I have seen done is a air shopping mall with drones hooked to storage. So as long as you can power and build a drone port you can order anything you like delivered by air by building a drone port. Not saying I don't like your ingenuity here, just other perhaps more simple ideas. Now if you are automating supply it's kewl but having a train try to keep delivering is about the same. End result you save cars on the train I think.

    • @StinArchi
      @StinArchi  2 роки тому +3

      Even simpler - you could just get on the train and drive back to your storage to pick up materials :)
      The air hub you mentioned requires a signficant setup/time also - as you will also need a decent battery setup to supply the drones. I've covered a drone remote storage also.
      But the point is more to experiment with alternative ideas and look at different ways to do things. Every system has its pros and cons. As I mentioned on video, I appreciate that these kinda setups are not for everyone. But for those who like these more complicated setups - it has the cool factor being able to select remotely exactly which resource you want delivered. But yea, this video was not meant to cover the simpler methods :)
      Also keep in mind that this has other uses as mentioned - as an automatically self regulating feeding system for a factory.
      Cheers man, appreciate the comment 👍
