Tacking down the corners - this makes so much sense! Even a nicely snug lining can get pulled up when you are rooting around in the bottom of a bag - and who doesn't do this? Brilliant, thank so much for a great tutorial!
I have been sewing my linings smaller but I never thought of tacking the lining down in the corners. I think that is a fantastic idea and I will be using it this weekend when I’m sewing some raffle items. Thank you very much!
I don't understand why more/most major pattern designers don't mention this in their patterns? I've been doing it for quite a few years but never see it suggested in the pattern. I'm sure beginner sewists would be a lot happier with their finished bag if they knew this!
I sew the boxed corners of the lining to the boxed corners of the outer of my bags on the machine. So tidy and strong.
Me too!
I do the same way
OmG I had had such trouble with the exterior having pinches because of the lining (which ruined my totes) and had searched for fixes for this problem to no avail. I finally figured out on my own to adjust the seam allowance 1/8th" smaller for the lining than the exterior. Afterall, how can two of the same size of anything fit one inside the other??
Your advice will save many sewists tons of frustration. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this comment!!!!! My forever goal is to empower sewists with useful information that they have been looking for!
So appreciate your sharing and caring. How'd you get so smart... so young! Enjoy learning from you and incorporating your tips / techniques into my efforts. thank you very much.
EXCELLENT TUTORIAL.... I fell in love with your Santorini tote bag you made for yourself. It is black, quilted diamond pattern and gorgeous. I want to make that bag. I am ordering your pattern and hopefully I can get close to the look of yours. I wished you would do that bag in a video. Thank you
Thank you
@@SewHungryHippie if you ever decide I recreate this bag in a tutorial I would be stoked. You had tons of views
Thanks for the great tips Natalie. I had never seen the tacking down of the corners...I will definitely give that a try.
Hello Pam! Hope you use this trick and let me know how it goes for you ❤
Love the way you tacked the lining down. I really dislike when the lining comes up when taking something out of your bag. Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
I totally agree! Thank you so much for watching!
Biggest baggiest linings ever, solved! Really helped, so clear!
Oh I'm so happy it helped!
Love these hints. Plan to move my needle to be just inside the seam allowence.
So happy that you will be trying that tip Sally! Let me know how much you love it!!!!

Thank you for your tips. My linings are always too big, but thanks to your tutorial my next bag will be better. A quilter knot is a lot easier, a tip from a quilter 😊

I never thought of tacking down the lining corners but I have used double sided tape in between the lining & the exterior.

Thanks for sharing this. Very nice. I've watched many bag or box tutorials where the lining was always cut the same size as the outside fabric, the lining then of course bunching up inside the bag or box. So, I quietly wondered by myself (returning to sewing after what seems like half a lifetime): why not just cut it smaller or increase the seam allowance? So, you've just nailed that for me 😁
You’re welcome 😊
That little "tack" is a GREAT tip. I'm wondering...is there a fool proof method to adding organizing pockets in a large project bag that do NOT sag...yet still can fit a bulky item?
Adding stabilizer to the pocket will give it enough support and lessen the sag.
Here is a suggestion for a new Video...
please show how to use a binding pressurefoot on small round projects. Like mugrugs and so on. I just can not get it right back AND Front🙁🙄. That would be Great. Thanks for these Videos!!!
I’ve been wondering about this for awhile. This feels so approachable! Thanks as always, for the tips!

Thank you so much Natalie.
That was pretty impressive how you tore out those stitches! 💪🏻🙌🏻
Hi from Michigan! 💁🏻New viewer here since Sew Yeah was at your shop and I placed a big order, lol! Lots of projects to do now. 😉 I was impressed with the seam ripping as well. How did you do that? Did you just rip the end couple of stitches and then just pull it apart? I always pick the stitches all the way down. I didn’t realize you could just yank the pieces apart. What size stitch length do you use? Thanks for the great tutorial! I had never heard that before I started watching you, to not sew over your zipper tabs. I guess I always have in the past. Thanks for all of your great tips!!!
Easy
Thank you! 😊
Hi Kathy!!!! Welcome to Sew Hungry Hippie!!!!!Thank you so much for support of our small business!!!!

Hey everyone from Kentucky!
Hello Nancy!!! So happy you are here!
I box my corners and attach them by machine to the boxed corners of the bag I am making. A little trickier to pull out but works and no ha d sewing which I hate.
I nearly always do this. Much stronger
Do you know if there’s a video showing your technique? I think I understand the concept, but would like to see it done to be sure. Thanks!!
I do all my bags this way… it makes a perfect fit every time!
I like the tacking tip, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Let me know how it works for you!
Thank you this all makes perfect sense ❤❤

Absolutely wonderful tips, Natalie! Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
You are so welcome!
I appreciate your comments. How do you tack down the corners if your exterior is vinyl, cork or leather?
Tacking isn't really visible from the right side, because it's like a stitch or 2, very small...you don't have to go all the way through the cork or vinyl, just grab enough to hold and you're golden.
Greattutoril😊
Thank you so much!
Did you tack it to the vinyl piece? Or just the 2 sides of cotton material?
To the interfacing layer
Side note... love your glasses... source???
Thank you! You can get your own pair using my affiliate link from Pair :app.swellrewards.com/rwrd/h9urltz?c Choose The Quinn and the color is "botantical split"!

Did you make that tassel?
Yes!
That bag had no lining.
Hello Paula, Thanks for watching. The pouch that I grabbed during the tutorial was lined and a corner that was not tacked down. 💫
Great tips! I would appreciate any advice you can share on adding the zipper pulls. I have the helpers to get them on and I still can't get them on. I fear ruining a bag due to not being able to get the zipper attached 😕 😪 what is the secret 😕
Make it a few minutes late
Happy you made
It!!!!
I’m on bag number 6 and had trouble with every lining. All baggy. This was an ENORMOUS HELP.
Very helpful thank you!
Thank you Tamara 💖🌸🌟
